1261  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Tokens (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] FoldingCoin - Mine for medicine, Scrypt and SHA256 ASIC proof on: March 26, 2016, 07:02:07 AM
One thing that seems to work for several coins is to use a bot (or a person with too much free time) to stabilize the price longer term and help the coin grow.

For example right now fldc @ ~76.

The market is trending up right now so the bot might put a medium buy at 70 and a smaller sell at 81 both trades likely to execute.

When the buy executes at 70, those coins are put for sale at various prices starting in the 80s, and when the sell executes at 81, those btc are used to place buys below 81.

One coin I follow was chaotic until someone did that. Now if you buy or sell that specific coin there is an instant counterorder placed. If you sell 0.1 btc worth than buys for that amount are instantly placed lower. Selling vice versa. Whoever did that seems to be making money and it seems to have stabilized a chaotic market. It would probably work well with fldc which has fair volume but wide spreads and not huge volatility.

That could work in the short term but in the long term market manipulation does not work. It's better to let price rise naturally then manipulate it.
1262  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Was the first PoS coin Peercoin...? on: March 26, 2016, 02:44:17 AM
"
So, I want to clear something up that a lot of the crypto community seems to be unaware of. SolidCoin, not Peercoin, was the first currency to do proof of stake (PoS).

SolidCoin v2.0 was released October, 2011
Peercoin was released 12 August, 2012

I am not claiming the proof of stake methods used in SolidCoin v2 and Peercoin are the same because they are not. In my opinion Peercoin has a much better implementation of proof of stake. Just because I released a working implementation of proof of stake first does not mean I invented it first. The idea first seemed to come up on the Bitcointalk forums in July 2011 https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=27787.0 . At least according to Bitcoin wiki.
"

https://microcash.org/threads/solidcoin-was-first-to-do-proof-of-stake.33/

Not sure if solidcoins implementation counts as proof of stake. From what i read solidcoins proof of stake basicly involved checking someones wallet for a fixed number of coins and if they had above a certain amount (1 million in solidcoins case) they had a chance to generate a block. This is in contrast to peercoins pos algo which is more complex with coindays, coinage and minimum and maximum stake window. Not to mention pos reward fixed at 1% of holdings per year. It looks like solidcoin was the first coin with a proof of stake like concept but peercoin was the first to implement a full fledged pos algo.

No blocks for over 2 hours now, is there something wrong with the network? Last block 2 hour 22 minute ago...is this normal?
1264  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Ether price? on: March 24, 2016, 03:16:07 AM
ETH is cheap right now and should be seen as a long term investment. Each day there are more and more new devs jumping into the Ethereum Eco system to develop DAO and DAPPS. And let's not forget the banking industries great interest in ETH.

eth is buggy incomplete software with no real world use. Why does this deserve a value of $12?? I think that eth is promising but for the current stage of development the price is to high. For this early stage a price of $1 - $2 would be more reasonable. Even if i wanted to try ether i would not pay $12 for a single coin thats just a deal breaker.
1265  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Stable altcoin? on: March 24, 2016, 03:10:55 AM
Litecoin has shown remarkable stablity over the past 3 months. The price has been hovering between $3.10 - $3.50. The more stable the price the easier it is to use as a currency.
1266  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Does Litecoin have a future? on: March 24, 2016, 03:08:46 AM
Litecoin does not need development. It works as it should and is a mature coin that has been around for around 5 years. There is no need for a coin to be constantly in development if it can do what it is designed to do well. All litecoin needs is small updates here and there, apart from there if litecoin is destined for a better future it will grow naturally in the absense of hype.

I do believe that latter this year we will see a resurrection of old coins like btc, ltc, ppc and doge. It worries me that so many coins in the top 10 are scams, ipos or business coins. If there is one thing that old coins did well it is simplicity. I can start using bitcoin and litecoin to buy stuff pretty easily but i cant even figure out where to get a etherum wallet or how the damn thing works as there is little to no public documentation. I prefer simplicity over features and others who do so too will move into ltc/btc/ppc.

Only invest what you can afford to lose.

Look for a coin that a history and has something that could attract investment. Peercoin was the first POS coin and has a infrastructure optimised for sidechains which is why i invested in it. It also has staying power and moves along with BTC and LTC.
1268  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Those who claim Litecoin has died on: March 21, 2016, 01:11:45 PM
I suspect we will see a massive ltc pump sometime this year. I mean if shit like eth can shoot up to $15 then why not a proper coin like LTC?
1269  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: ETH really becoming a new BTC on: March 20, 2016, 05:36:33 AM
Ethereum is much more than a BTC succesor, its more sophisticated and advance than BTC.

Yet it is not something the average person will ever use. Bitcoin is complex but with some work your average person can use it, ether is only for geeks, governments and bankers.
1270  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: ETH really becoming a new BTC on: March 20, 2016, 05:35:04 AM
1.  Community is better

2.  Faster

3. Ready to scale

4. More versatile

5. More decentralised

6. Not controlled by chinese miners

7. Not run by idiots

8. More developers

9. Used by banks

10. Not used by pedophiles

1. Community is cancer worse than dogecoin

2. Maybe so but there are plenty of fast crypto out there

3. Bullshit.

4. how so?

5. Its run by miners now, and will be run by the foundation during pos, it looks set to become centralised in the long run

6. Yet. Just wait until the chinese start mining. With cheap power chinese will takeover the network

7. No its run by hypemasters which is worse

8. Does not mean it will be sucessful, bitcoin only had 1 dev in the early days look where it is now

9. Exactly why many people will stay away from it, the banks will alter ether to benefit them and fuck everyone else over just like the current system

10. No but its going to be run by greedy bankers and governments which is worse
1271  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: To all people who think ether is the best thing to happen since sliced bread on: March 20, 2016, 05:29:02 AM
I bet youre the type that appreciates LTC cuz "silver to bitcoin gold",correct?

I prefer stability over features yes.
"stability" in crypto world? Are you kidding me ?Demand is small while supply is huge,if 1 big whale decide to dump everything it'll kill the coin and it would be unlikely to recover since it has no potential because it lacks features. And yes any big dump no matter the crypto can bring it to its knees, but features/potential to develop it is what keeps them afloat, not a motto "we're silver to bitcoin's gold".That is extremely naive ,try to be smart and use logic people, costs nothing.Yes,any crypto out there is good for speculation, but thats what theyre about.99.99% have no potential to develop.
The only reason LTC price is stable and follows btc price is because of chinese mining cartels, they own both BTC and LTC thanks to asics and most likely free electricity.

Go look at litecoins price over the last couple of months. Its been steady at $3. Now i actually use litecoin to buy coffee everyday so a stable price makes it easier to use as a currency. People often forget that although litecoins price has not risen it hasnt fallen either. To me a stable price indicates maturity and that is rare in the crypto scene. This is one of the reasons i remain hopeful for litecoins future, bitcoin was like this too in 2012 before it shot up.

Did you sell it, or is it an unrealized gain?

Sold half holding the other half. I see somewhat of a slow uptrend with ppc.
1273  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Invested $2000 in peercoin 11 months ago - Just realised i got a 110% ROI on: March 19, 2016, 04:48:52 PM
How much of that return was down to staking the coins and increasing the amount of peercoin you held in the process?

0 the coins were in cold storage and hence not staking.
1274  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: ETH price soaring. Are you going to move some BTC into ETH? on: March 19, 2016, 03:18:36 PM
If BTC goes down its taking everything with it - no matter how much an altcoin distances itself its still a altcoin.
1275  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: How much will cost Dogecoin after 5-10 years? on: March 19, 2016, 03:10:34 PM
Dogecoin has usage has a tipping currency on reddit and some other places. There was talk once on integrating it with youtube. I think dogecoin will still be around in some form or another 10 years done the line.
1276  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Litecoin is officially dead on: March 19, 2016, 03:07:24 PM
All you can guys hope for,if you baghold/mine LTC is for a pump and sell fast as soon as you make profit. This coin is 0,theres nothing about it,all it had since the beginning was a clever marketing for naive people that thought it if bitc could hit 500$+ therefore ltc could do the same.I mean, seriously, all it had and has is "ltc is silver to bitcoin"s gold",thats even more embarrasing than "monero" coin name.

Do you make it your personal job to shittalk about LTC everywhere on this forum? I see you fudding ltc in every single ltc related thread, what do you have against ltc?
1277  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Invested $2000 in peercoin 11 months ago - Just realised i got a 110% ROI on: March 19, 2016, 03:03:23 PM
You do realise that most altcoins exist just for pure speculation and worth nothing right?Altcoins arent stores of value or wont be used as currency as long as bitcoin exists,so the only thing that matters is technology inside of them, their potential. To me it looks like most of altcoins out there like doge and other joke coins that only exist for pure speculation and nothing else,no future.

You do realise that the long term performance of many altcoins has already proven you wrong right? Litecoin at this time last year was $1.45 a coin, it is now worth more than double that at $3.10. I think in the long run if crypto is successful we wont only have bitcoin but a handful of other alts to. Competition is never a bad thing for the consumer/user.
1278  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Invested $2000 in peercoin 11 months ago - Just realised i got a 110% ROI on: March 19, 2016, 02:08:52 PM
11 months ago i bought $2000 worth of peercoin as a long term investment. At this time peercoin was selling at $0.22 so i thought it would be a good time to buy in. I bought the ppc put them in a wallet and didn't really monitor the price. I was recently going over my portfolio and you can imagine my surprise when i realised my peercoins had more than doubled in value. The current exchange rate for 1 peercoin is currently $0.47 by the way.

The lesson to be learned here is that long term investments can sometimes pay off better than short ones. Back when i bought into ppc people were saying that ppc was dead and would crash to $0.05 in a month - it ended up doing the opposite and increased its value by more than 100% over a year.

I am considering putting more into ppc, who knows maybe in 12 months time ppc will be $10 each lol.
1279  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Simple questions about Ethereum nobody can answer !!! on: March 17, 2016, 03:41:27 PM
nobody seems to be able to give any straight answers when it comes to ether. I ask about the total coins some say 90m others say unlimited. I ask blockchain size and some say 5 GB others say 10GB. I am staying far away from this coin because i get the feeling that after the hype has down a lot of people are going to get burned. This is going to be worse then paycoin and auruacoin combined.

Its true that bitcoin may not have cutting edge tech, but at least it has been around 7 years and can be trusted to still be there tomorrow.

Everybody knows and everybody can tell you that Ethereum has no hard cap. There is no maximum number of ETH. Developers stated from the first day that ETH is NOT a coin, it's "fuel".

It was designed to power smart contracts, not to be used as a currency. It was designed as "fuel" to exactly prevent what just happened. Huge price increase. If the price of ETH goes up very fast, smart contracts will become more and more expensive to run.

A high ETH price could be a huge problem for the whole ecosystem because even simple contracts will use a lot of $$$.

That's why the team decided to make ETH an inflationary currency.

What you see on exchanges are people buying "fuel" hoping that will do exactly what's not supposed to do : GO UP FAST !!!. Smiley

Really?? Because in my experience whenever a question about ether is asked a different answer is always given. How do they expect people to invest in this if they cannot provide simple hard facts such as block timing, block size, algo, blockchain size, coinbase reward etc.I mean this coin launched without a GUI, how is this acceptable is 2016?? Heck bitcoin launched with GUI and as far as we know nobody paid satoshi to create bitcoin.
1280  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Invest-able Altcoins? on: March 17, 2016, 03:27:01 PM
BTC, LTC, PPC, DOGE, NMC and XPM. These all have staying power.
