11 months ago i bought $2000 worth of peercoin as a long term investment. At this time peercoin was selling at $0.22 so i thought it would be a good time to buy in. I bought the ppc put them in a wallet and didn't really monitor the price. I was recently going over my portfolio and you can imagine my surprise when i realised my peercoins had more than doubled in value. The current exchange rate for 1 peercoin is currently $0.47 by the way.
The lesson to be learned here is that long term investments can sometimes pay off better than short ones. Back when i bought into ppc people were saying that ppc was dead and would crash to $0.05 in a month - it ended up doing the opposite and increased its value by more than 100% over a year.
I am considering putting more into ppc, who knows maybe in 12 months time ppc will be $10 each lol.

The fact can not wait. The main thing for them is making a profit in the short period of time and it does not matter that the profit will be minimal.

You do realise that most altcoins exist just for pure speculation and worth nothing right?Altcoins arent stores of value or wont be used as currency as long as bitcoin exists,so the only thing that matters is technology inside of them, their potential. To me it looks like most of altcoins out there like doge and other joke coins that only exist for pure speculation and nothing else,no future.

Congrats! I'm also believe it's time to go back to good old coins like LTC and PEER, so we can leave behind us and those crowdfunding scams. I'm in LTC and i will hold longer time also. I believe i will double my money even after btc halving.

Josneko what do you hope to happen with LTC ?It is the same since release, its an altcoin and most altcoins are technologically more advanced than it is.Bitcoin itself is shit but it has first runner advantage ,and because of that it is accepted in some place as payment.LTC wont have new investors to increase its price/capital,maybe few speculators will buy in if whales decide to pump it a little, but thats it.

You do realise that the long term performance of many altcoins has already proven you wrong right? Litecoin at this time last year was $1.45 a coin, it is now worth more than double that at $3.10. I think in the long run if crypto is successful we wont only have bitcoin but a handful of other alts to. Competition is never a bad thing for the consumer/user.

PPC is a thing what used to do such things . A few times I've also realised that some nearly forgotten PPC stocks worth twice (or even more) when I've "rediscovered" than the original price.

You've just picked the right coin to invest at that time, with so many new altcoins coming up you don't know what will yield you the most profit in the long run, better analysis is one of the thing you need to invest and make a profit..

How much of that return was down to staking the coins and increasing the amount of peercoin you held in the process?

0 the coins were in cold storage and hence not staking. Well you should stake! It's an easy way to increase your holdings without you needing to purchase more.

Sold half holding the other half. I see somewhat of a slow uptrend with ppc.

It would be the same as having your money in the bank in a CD that you can't withdraw for a certain amount of time but make a much high APR than traditional banks

Agreed, totally. I think a few will survive like dash and litecoin but most are destined for the graveyard. Glad op made a profit.

I agree, there is a staggering number of new altcoins out there and the number only seems to be growing. I have no idea where to start with this kind of stuff! Do you have any suggestions as to what kind of coin characteristics I should avoid/look for when looking for a coin to get involved with?

Look for a coin that a history and has something that could attract investment. Peercoin was the first POS coin and has a infrastructure optimised for sidechains which is why i invested in it. It also has staying power and moves along with BTC and LTC.

Thank you! That makes sense. Maybe speculating brand new coins isn't wise for me until I get a better understanding of the technology and climate of the industry.
