12601  Other / Meta / Re: Please Hire me to a job that will be rewarded with merits. on: April 16, 2018, 04:04:48 PM
Any admins here that would like to hire me to a job that I can get a reward with merits? I guess giving of merits will not composed only on posting constructive post rather it could also be base on performance. I am public high school teacher here in the Philippines and i am wondering if i could do a job here to improve the bitcointalk forum and be able to impart my knowledge and skills in teaching. Hopefully i could get a positive reply on this thread and bumping in even at least 1 merit will do. Thank you in advance.

Note: I could not elaborate more on this topic about meriting to a performance based as not to annoy you here reading my thread.

I will propose you something much better for you than what you're proposing.
Study hard, as you would like your students to study (you said you are a teacher).

You can start with this open source book
https://github.com/bitcoinbook/bitcoinbook/releases/tag/second_edition_print2

Go to the bitcoin technical discussion and beginners and help boards and post your doubts and summaries there.

Pm me when you have some good posts that I will give you 2 merits.
I am sure you will get 20 merits very fast doing this.
12602  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Ethereumtalk on: April 16, 2018, 10:53:13 AM
Everyone knows that Bitcoin is still the King of Crypto Coin. If you are asking about Cryptocurrency, the first thing to think about is Bitcoin. With a fantastic price and many people who became his fans. But, what if one day Bitcoin popularity declined for a reason. For example, the price of Ethereum beats Bitcoin and everyone moves on Bitcoin and Investors are also moving to Ethereum. What will happen to the Cryptocurrency world when that happens? What will happen to Bitcoin forums? What will happen to this Forum? Will it be Ethereumtalk?

Give your opinion.  Grin

In this unlikely situation where ethereum has larger marketcap than bitcoin, nothing will happen to bitcoin or to this forum.
Bitcoin is a global decentralized currency, ethereum is not. They are not competing.
12603  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: my brief summary on Proof of Work on: April 16, 2018, 10:30:24 AM
In the Blockchain, all transactions are publicly announced to all nodes, as there is no central authority who validate transactions. The validation system is called Proof of Work.

This paragraph is somewhat misleading. The POW isn't used for validation, it's there to prevent double spending and modification of the chain. Validation of transactions in the block is done via cryptographic signatures and has nothing to do with POW. I would emphasize this more, as it's abit unclear from your post what is the purpose of POW in Bitcoin.

Yeah, I just learned about that reading some posts on some other threads. I will review this text soon. Thank you for your observation.

Can you explain about 6 confirmations needed for a transaction to be finalized?
It doesn't need 6 confirmations to be finalized.
Bust many exchanges and websites will wait for 6 confirmations before accepting it, as a transaction is only considered irreversible with 6 confirmations.
12604  Other / Meta / Re: So hard to earn merit.... on: April 16, 2018, 02:48:00 AM
From what I've been checking, it really does seem that there's some sort of agreement around members' merit points: while most members I've seen below 120 activity have only a couple merit points, most that have already reached 120-140 are pretty close to or have already reached 100. The merit sources probably wait until you've reached the activity threshold before starting to invest their smerit in you. But that's just my guess...

You are likely accusing merit sources of meriting only older users. That's not true. And they have a hard job trying to find good posts in this forum.

But as you stay more time in the forum, you will learn more about BTC and crypto and you will get more merits over time. But if you make some effort you can get merits now, just need to research and make good quality content.
12605  Other / Meta / Re: Finally! 101 merit and 84 activity!! Celebration Post! My thoughts on merit. on: April 16, 2018, 02:26:57 AM
I’m just here for the pizza, but looks like everyone forgot to bring it.

Jerks.

Oh, and good job, bitmover; I always light up a bit when it comes to reviewing your posts on a weekly basis, and to watch the progression of merit growth for your account has been pretty phenomenal. I’ve said it before and I will continue to say it: this forum needs more members like you!

Here’s to the next 100 merits!

Thanks you for the pizza BTCforJoe!!

I am very grateful for the reception I had in this community  Grin
12606  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Help please return the wallet on: April 15, 2018, 08:46:33 PM
Help me please. Half a year ago I installed the Electrum on the PC. Created on it a purse with 2 x factor authorization. I wrote a seed and I have it. He transferred money to him and was pleased. Recently, a problem happened with the PC and I had to reinstall the OS. Month 3, I was calm, because I knew that I have a seed. But recently I decided to restore the purse and I did not succeed. Enter the seed in the line for it, but the "next" button is not activated! When I try to restore my two-factor wallet with the help of usual when entering the seed, it's the same problem, but if you choose bip39, then it seems like the process goes on, but the purse created is empty, without any history of translations! What do I do friends? I really hope for your help.

What do you call seed? Is a group of words, the mnemonic phrase?
How many words do you have??

If your wallet was originally created in Electrum, your mnemonic phrase is not BIP 39. There is another option to recover your wallet from the mnemonic phrase without clicking bip39, that must be the problem.
Electrum uses it own standard.
12607  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Help Me Recover My Bitcoins. on: April 15, 2018, 05:20:46 PM
You guys still don't get it, irregardless of the trezor i should be able to restore my seed in another wallet but it still doesn't work, honestly i don't care if the trezor messed up the update i just want my funds back, maybe i am using a wrong derivation path. Someone give me something i can do other than contact trezor support page, i have the right seed and that should count for something, i have only used the device twice and its just a month old.
-Did you buy trezor from the official store? If not, you should consider your hardwallet compromised and the seed originally generated could be someone else's Wallet.
When you updated the firmware, your trezor was" fixed" and is now working properly.

-Another option is to use de extended public key, this was already suggested before and did not help. The extended public key generates all possible public addresses for that seed. If the address is not there, the seed is wrong.

-its possible that you misspelled some word. Raccoon or raccon for example.
Here is a list of all possible words in English. Check each of your 24 .

https://github.com/bitcoin/bips/blob/master/bip-0039/english.txt

-supposing your trezor is complety broken.  have you tried to recover your seed in another wallet using these 24 words? This could solve.
12608  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Can we trust the people ? on: April 15, 2018, 04:40:27 PM
You don't have to trust them.
They are open source. So their code has been audit by thousands of devs and anyone could audit it by themselves.

If there was some backdoor in the code of ledger nano, for example, it would have already been spotted. They have huge rewards for bounty bugs either.

As mentioned before, as long as you hold your seed even if the hardware fail you can restore it in any other Wallet.
12609  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Proof of Work explained on: April 15, 2018, 02:46:52 PM
When that block is full of transactions, it is hashed.
This is not necessarily true. The block can be hashed even when empty or nearly empty.
Miners immediately start to search for a valid hash, even before the block has any transactions. (I guess, the incentive to mine a new block is much larger than to collect the transaction fees!!)
This was puzzling me too, but then I understood somewhat more, thanks to @DannyHamilton.

Thank you butka. You showed me a very good post.
I will review my explanation later. This is more complicated than I thought.

izhaqblues,

1 - comparar a Namecoin o bitcoin.

2 - conhece uma coisinha chamada Proof of Stake?

A maior polêmica envolvendo PoS e PoW é o seguinte:

Outra coisa, Proof of Work também é Proof of Stake, pois no proof of work você está apostando (Staking) energia elétrica e processamento de computação, ativo do mundo real de FORA do blockchain.

12613  Economy / Services / Re: A simple bitcoin Q/A. Learn new and interesting stuff about bitcoin. on: April 15, 2018, 12:36:04 AM
I found something interesting for this old question. This question really got my attention at the time it was first posted, but i didn't knew anything about it at the time.
I just read about it in the book Mastering Bitcoin (Antonopoulos). As have nobody to talk about it I will post here.

Okay. Here's my question:

Question 9.5: Pretend I own a large business that sells physical items, with all orders being sold online. Tell me about the benefits and drawbacks of accepting Bitcoin for my business. I reside in and pay taxes in Canada.

Now that I'm thinking about it, there are so many more drawbacks of running a large store that accepts Bitcoin... You've got my brain working in overtime now, and all these thoughts keep popping into my head lol. Automation, being one of them. You'd have to hire developers to make an automated payment and fulfillment system, such as the ones that are used by existing fiat payment processors. This comes with a high-cost, as you'd have to have a custom build, or use existing companies like BitPay or Blockonomics. Custom builds will cost thousands of dollars to develop, and you have to put a lot of trust in the dev not to backdoor your code. Using bitcoin payment processors, in turn, means that there are, in fact, fees for your bitcoin payment transactions.

All of this talk can't be for no good reason. DarkStar_, do you run an online retailer that accepts Bitcoin, or are you thinking of starting one? I'm quite interested lol

I was reading about deriving child keys, and then I found about Extended Public Keys (xpub).
This may be pretty basic stuff but I just learned about them now.

Extended Public Keys can be used to create child public keys (only public keys).
This kind of key can generate infinite child public keys and public addresses, but none private key.

In this case they are very useful.
You can install the extended public key on a web server, online, and leave your extended private key in a offline wallet.

If you are going hire developers, you could give them only the xpub, so there would be no way for them to steal your money.

Antonopoulos even talks about Mycelium Gear (I never used it), a program which could generate an unique address for every purchase on the online store.

I think the whole process of accepting bitcoin in a big store may not be so complicated after all.

One additional step for security: Extended public keys can be used to generate private keys if a SINGLE private key is leaked.
There is way to avoid this. There is also something called Hardened derivation. If xpub are generated from a hardened parent, the leak of a private key is not a risk anymore.

I am still learning, just read about it. Tell me if something is wrong.
12614  Other / Meta / Re: Tools to improve your English Writing on: April 15, 2018, 12:05:28 AM
That's why I think that the way of learning english or any other language is school is not that good. You don't learn to speak or write reasonable things. Back in high school we've learning to recognize tenses and whatnot, but whoever develpoed some talking/writing skilss, he developed them from movies, music, online videogames,etc... You'll learn more from that imo, if you just pay a little attention to it.

This i true. I learned a lot in videogames. I wanted to play RPG games when I was a kid and I needed to understand a least something lol

Movies are also very good for listening skills...
12615  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Help Me Recover My Bitcoins. on: April 14, 2018, 10:11:44 PM
Here is the trouble shooting page. Something went wrong when you upgraded. It says to contact support if you are unsuccessful. Maybe they'll send you a new device and that will fix your problem.

https://doc.satoshilabs.com/trezor-user/troubleshooting.html#windows-os-trezor-wallet-doesnt-recognize-trezor-after-update-to-firmware-140-or-later

Don't follow complicated advice that you don't completely understand.

Try uninstalling and then reinstalling your Trezor Bridge (that your chrome browser runs off of). Maybe it's just the display on your browser.

I think he should try this, but a new device may not solve the problem.
The coins are not physically inside the device, but in the blockchain. and he doesnt know the private or the mnemonic seed.

the best case scenario is that he knows the seed but the keys are in another address which he couldn't find yet. If that happens he could restore it in any wallet.

If the words are incorrect, or if the coins are not in that mnemonic phrase's derived addresses for some reason, a new device will not help.
12616  Other / Meta / Re: Tools to improve your English Writing on: April 14, 2018, 10:03:31 PM
bitmover, amazing initiative. But I really don't think alot of users shitposters are even bothering to read it.
I would suggest you to change the topic to : "Earn merit for free,by doing this simple task",and just see what happens. Idiots would come begging to you Wink.

Did almost what you said lol
I think the topic name is more appropriate now

Pra mim sao as melhores do forum inteiro.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=840124.0        Lightlord

As do lauda https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2222129.msg22434999#msg22434999

As do Lutpin https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=520313
Acho que ele tem varias ativas agora.

Mais informacoes aqui na lista SMAS
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1545652.0

He has paid 0.05 btc to have his account reinstated. This means that he believes that he can earn far more than that from his membership, and that must be from posting low value spam comments. Somehow, we need to stop this destruction of the forum, and make it uneconomic.

I don't get how can someone pay anything to shitposters. This will not last long, this makes no sense.
