Hello guys! I am new to this forum, I started using it just after the merit system was implemented, so I was one of the "lucky" ones as I got zero merit for free. I was active in Reddit for some time but when I discovered this forum, I became addicted to it and I really enjoyed the merit system. A merit differs from a Like (facebook) or an Upvote (Reddit), because sMerits are not free, you have to earn them to be able to give. So only really good posts get merited. Anyway, I decided that I wanted to become a Full Member, and for that I needed 100 merit. That was pretty of a challenge. I made a deadline: I would like to get 100 merit before 120 activity. I didn't expect, but I got 100 merit much faster than that!! I am truly interested in cryptocurrencies. I like it's technology, I like to use it as a payment method and I really enjoy it as an investment. I think my love for Bitcoin and crypto made this path easier. I want to share some of my thoughts about the merit system with some other people who like me love cryptos and are walking this arduous (but rewarding) path towards higher forums ranks: So be patient, write good content, help others. Merits will come slowly, one by one, but exponentially! If you post good content, you will get the merits you need. Next objective: 250 merits!! (i hate this activity system!! lol)

Bitcoin wallets are not like banks where you can have a next of kin to inherit all your assets when you are gone and for security reasons, you definitely can't tell your family members your security information like passwords and such while you are alive.
So I have been wondering,if anything happens to any of us now,how can we safely pass on our assets to our loved ones while still remaining security conscious? Or does our hardworking die with us?
- Get the private key or the Mnemonic Seed of your wallet. - Give it to at least one trustful relative, and explains to him/her how to recover it. Do it, do not let your bitcoins die with you. There are so few of them, and so many lost already

I was wondering which one was your favorite out of the two cryptocurrencies? I think Ethereum has proved to be more flexible than Bitcoin even though Bitcoin is making the biggest noise
Bitcoin is my favorite. Ethereum is pretty interesting and I like it a lot. But bitcoin is the market leader. It has been tested for a longer time. It has a bigger volume and more daily transactions, more infrastructure and adoption. Bitcoin is also more stable. Ethereum is more centralized, as vitalik is the one in charge. Bitcoin needs to be more conservative and cannot do something like Casper Proof of stake. Both are good and I think it's wise to hold both as the main holdings of your crypto portfolio

I'll take a look into that, it's very possible that I missed a merit point. I could have sworn I went back and fulfilled all of my "obligations", but of course I may have missed one I suppose. That does make me feel less strange, in fact, now I feel almost normal. If I remember correctly, I did give you a merit for your placement in a prior round, on the 1st or 2nd of the month. I thought that was for round 4, second place, but I've been wrong before and we'll see.
It's a bit confusing cause I was second for 2 consecutive rounds.

Most cryptocurrencies doesnt have a fiat pair. They are most of them BTC/ALT So you need to first buy BTC, then you buy the alt.
Besides that, bitcoin is the market leader, the most stable, tested and adopted cryptocurrency. The survival of all of them are somehow linked to bitcoin's adoption. Few people know what is Monero or NEO, or even Ethereum, but bitcoin is far more popular and easier to buy.

He probably deleted his old posts and lost his rank, and somehow he didn't lose his avatar.

Your work is nice, and there are out there many similar works, using transaction data and google searches.
It's a nice analysis but it cannot conclude anything for sure. No one knows what is going to happen.
Ethereum was 10 USD 1 year ago. it was 1500 USD 2 months ago. now it´s 400.
The whole cryptomarket is totally unpredictable. Invest what you can afford to lose.

It feels very strange for me to see the winners announced and not have any merits to dish out. I'm probably going to end up reviewing some posts and hopefully I find a couple of posts worth meriting anyways. It's become somewhat of an addiction to sift through posts, finding interesting threads to get involved in, build up and potentially merit.
Congratulations to all of the winners, you are the first to be looked at when I get the chance.
Hey bill, maybe this will make you feel less strange, but I am still missing one merit from you from round 4 second place . ![Wink](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/wink.gif) I received an merit from you last week, but that was not related to this contest, but your own smerit review thread (from an old post).

I personally find this topic very interesting. Congratulations trplzr.
It's interesting not because it teaches me how to get 1000000 followers on Twitter (which I am not interested in, as I do not participate in those campaigns) but because it explains how those ICOs, spammers, and so many people got so many followers and likes and retweets.
Likes and retweets are basically being commercialized by bounties.
All this organized structure, profiles to help people get followers, "i follow back".... I was not aware of that few months ago, before I joined Bitcointalk.
I was very impressed by that when I first read your post in local board. Very nice write up.
I think this topic could be in beginners and help session for better visibility

As this is a public discussion, and as I have participated in many Joe's rounds, I will express my opinion.
@digaran, I think that as a Merit Source you are somehow a staff member of this forum. You have the right to disagree to Joe's campaign, and that's ok. You should report that thread to moderators. The moderators are the ones who have the authority to decide what to do about his campaign, not the merit sources.
But you are exposing yourself and the forum (as a staff member) when you engage in discussions like this. Too many offenses from so many people. Nothing good will come from this discussion.
Just my 2cc.

Blockchain com proof of work.

There are already blockchain options. Iota doesn't use blockchain technology. It uses directed acyclic graphs (dag), which is quite different.
DAGs are merely data structure, just like blockchains. Without a secure, trustless and permissionless way to prevent double-spends we might as well fall back to centralized solutions. yes, IOTA is centralized, it uses Proof of Work and Proof of Authority. That´s a problem for a global currency like Bitcoin, but for some other companies who are creating their own cryptocurrency and have other goals that may not be a problem, even something desirable. As i said, I think blockchain and bitcoin can live together with another kind of projects, like centralized DAG, or Ethereum PoS, and that´s not a problem or a treat to bitcoin. Just like android and windows.

Some time ago I participated in an Initial Coin Offering (ICO) and they defined the following parameters for Eth contributions: Maximum Gas Price: 50 Gwei Gas Limit: 150 000 I made a little research to learn what these attributes means. Gwei, Wei and Ether are different unit measures of the same thing. 1 Ether = 1.000.000.000.000.000.000 Wei 1 Wei is the smallest unit of Ether, as 1 Satoshi (0.00000001 BTC) is the smallest of Bitcoin. All computational work of running Smartcontracts or transactions in the Ethereum Network are paid in Ether (Eth), which is the fuel of that network. Gas is a unit of measuring this computation work, which is usually measured in Gwei. Some amount of Gas is charged for every computational operation in the Etehreum Network. For example, and addition costs 5 Gas. Gas Limit and Gas Price attributes define the total cost of your transactions, according to the formula below: gas limit * gas price Gas Price: Amount of Gwei you are willing to spend per unit of gas. Gas Limit: Maximum amount of units of gas you are willing to spend on a transaction. From my ICO example, if the Gas Price is 50 Gwei and the Gas Limit is 150.000, this transaction will cost 7.500.000 Gwei (or 0.0075 Eth). To determine what is the gas price, just check out this website https://ethgasstation.info/
