thanks

Very impressive setup! How many S3 total?  What did you do to get so much electricity there?

Impressive.
12702  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: 12k, Should I start mining? on: December 15, 2014, 02:24:06 AM
Well I'm not near any of your "levels" my knowledge isn't going that far yet whether to how my house and wired and etc. I'm most likely going to run the machines at my house in one of the extra rooms I have, windows are provided, I'm going to put in some fans. Since the temperature of the room matters, I might split them half half and put the other half at the apartment I go to for school. My main question is that these PSU devices, do they save the overall electrical charge or something? What's their main usage?

A typical room can handle a single SP20 if you have 120V power (US), two SP20s if you have 240V power (EU).

The PSUs can be regular computer power supplies, the kind that gets used in a regular tower computer case, although for the SP20 they need to be pretty high-powered.

So if I were to rent a place, my best choices with my 12k budget would be investing into the SP20s correct? Or is there any other out there that are better?

It depends.   Personally I really like SP20 because of under clock I can do in it's future.  Can you go wrong with a SP20... no.   I think SP20 and S4 are 2 best on market.

I would make sure you can handle the heat aswell.  With winter you may be lucky like some and get some cheap/free cool air.

Make sure you can handle electricity and heat.  You might be spending some of the 12k on setting up that.  And the electricity you can save a lot by under clocking it from beginning.   You might need 750-800 watts instead of around 1200 watts.   So possible to do 2 per 110 volt breaker instead of 1 SP20.
12703  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Sell all your GPUs right now during Christmas Rush! on: December 15, 2014, 12:55:53 AM
Are any of you actually making more then electricity costs?

I loved GPU mining but I sold all mine long ago at this point.
12704  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Where to buy Bitcoins securely with MasterCard EUR debit card? on: December 15, 2014, 12:49:35 AM
It will be hard, i don't know such service but its hard coz risk of chargebacks

Very true most will not want to take the risk.  As once the BTC is sent a chargeback will not bring it back.    I suggest looking asking what is a good site for EU.

I know coinbase works great with US. I opened a checking account just for BTC buying.  Keeps it where I have not linked any money I don't want to the site.
12705  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: bitmain s3 serial connect? on: December 15, 2014, 12:46:13 AM
my entire s3 is bricked :/

well just the board i guess but the entire unit is down.

im going to crack it open tonight and get digging but i dont have much time and have to fly out tomorrow so idk wtf i might have to take the biotch with me

Contact Bitmain.  If it is within 90 days I believe it is considered warranty.  (I could be wrong on timeline).

I do know I was a batch one I got bricked and was out of warranty.  They are willing to sell and ship the controller very fast to you (was same shipping as miners use).  It is a setback on ROI but at least not a brick.  And in my case I got a 1.1 ver of board and had a v1 so guess it was a upgrade.
12706  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: [ANN] HashCoins - Cryptocurrency Mining Hardware Manufacturer on: December 15, 2014, 12:42:42 AM
Irrespective of the rest of the discussion, when the publicly known author of cgminer as the person who wrote the software and driver you're allegedly using says that your screenshot is impossible, the community is in their right to call your claims a scam and you should provide an explanation or provide a public apology and retract your claims.

We publicly apologize for the fact that we have an unresolved issue with WU values in combination of our board and the cgminer. Our developers are dealing with this issue. We changed components on the board leaving cgminer and the driver unchanged since it functions well at that. In fact, all equipment we have shipped came with cgminer based web interface.

I was a fan hoping the Zeus would be real and be decently priced.  I just like hardware.   Can you go into more detail on what the issue such as what infact caused the numbers to look better then it was?
12707  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Dec 2 to Dec 15 diff thread. ( +0.15%) to (+0.92%) on: December 15, 2014, 12:40:32 AM
Estimated Next Difficulty:    39,822,366,803 (-0.46%)
Adjust time:    After 307 Blocks, About 2.1 days

Pretty amazing we need to throw a party if we get 2 negative numbers in a row.  I thought we would see 1-2 jump up but I will be happy to be wrong.
12708  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: 12k, Should I start mining? on: December 15, 2014, 12:38:23 AM
Do you mean the correct PSU devices for this? i don't plan to get any until I'm sure of what I want. Any suggestions if I'm on the right track?

Getting the PSUs is pretty easy. Providing all that power to all those PSUs, and keeping the temperature in the room cool, that's the question. A regular household circuit isn't going to be enough for that many miners.

This is true and it all depends on how your house was wired.   Some electrical engineers use much more power and more breakers, some are very simple (Ex one breaker per room).

I got lucky with 2 wires coming from electrical pole with lots of power.  I currently have around 11.5k watts of mining.   And trying to add more just need to rerun some network cable, already have power there. With it being a "farm house" that is more power then most regular homes will have extra.
12709  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Dec 2 to Dec 15 diff thread. ( +0.15%) to (+0.92%) on: December 14, 2014, 06:36:33 PM
the SP units are in colocaion, would be far too loud for my local mining farm (about a 14kW winter capcity, 8kW summer)

Noise is fine with my local farm.  I love the under clock of SP.  Right now I have it on high with low electricity might aswell for a bit.   But that under clock will come in handy in a few months (all depends on difficulty).

I also like my S4's they do have some noise aswell, but have a nice overclock in the cold winter air I'm using.
12710  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Power Hungry ASIC on: December 14, 2014, 06:28:56 PM
if the electricity is not the problem then go for BITMAIN's miners in the main time Spondoolies miner are more energy efficient but some of them are noisy

The SP20 has some pretty amazing underclocking though.  It will remain able to compete with asics for a while because of this.
12711  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: 12k, Should I start mining? on: December 14, 2014, 03:46:41 PM
Recently I have taken an interest in mining BTC and found my way to this forum. I have an investment of around 12k, is it worth investing into mining hardwares. If so which and where should I purchase these hardwares at since half of the research sites I've been too are either scams are seems like scams. Thanks.

Bitmaintech is one of the manufacturer which is really trusted one. I think it is a good time to invest in hardware now cause the difficulty increment pretty much stopped. Hopefully it will stay like that for months..

SP20 is also a great product.  My two favorite miners right now are SP20 and S4.
12712  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: bitmain s3 serial connect? on: December 14, 2014, 07:51:55 AM
i tried asking bitmain for more intel and this is what they said.

me: "Can you please provide link to product that can do as you describe? Thanks.

Sent from my iPhone"

bitmain: "Sorry, I don't have it.
if you cannot restart it in your side, you'll have to return the board for RMA"

maybe ill try again?

I wish there was a guide on it.  I have my one that lost power during flash sitting on shelf.  Would love to turn it into a backup.

I was out of warranty time so I paid for the part and quick shipping.  I will say I thought it was fair considering how fast they shipped.  Set ROI on that unit back a while but it's running great.

i dont understand? you dont know how to fix it, but you fixed it? im lost...

I don't know how to fix my old board via serial.  I bought a new board from Bitmain.   Replaced the controller board with new one I bought from Bitmain.

So I got miner up and running but now I have a board that is bricked I wish I could figure out how to fix and I would have a extra.

12714  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER C1 Discussion and Support Thread on: December 14, 2014, 12:31:35 AM
the wires are so thin

I had to cut the wire on the harness because I needed 4 pins molex instead of pci-e. There is just a flimsy copper wire the size of an hair inside of it. But it's working. My kit was in perfect condition. I'm loving this near silent miner.

Your pump leaked.  Did you leave the fill cap open until the water heated up? Also do not overfill the pump because air will compress more easily than water.

Those having harness problems I love this little adapter molex to 3 pin adapter - http://www.amazon.com/Phobya-4-Pin-3-Pin-Splitter-Connection/dp/B007S3T4O0/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1418516992&sr=8-3&keywords=molex+to+3+pin

Have had two working great on that adapter.

12715  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Was this a good deal? (ASIC Purchase) on: December 14, 2014, 12:27:20 AM
Yeah, unfortunately I don't have a PSU on hand. Well I do have a couple, but nothing that could accommodate the SP20, especially with an OC.

Man, I need to be an early adopter in something... Only way to really make anything with mining, it would seem. I just need to get to the point where I can invest my BTC into the next big ASIC. Then I'll be in good shape. Smiley

@op

the sp20 is far better at 750 watts and 1350gh then overclocking it.  it needs a decent 850 watt psu.

@ nolist   I jumped on the s-3's way back in july the first batch.. I paid 1.35 btc they earned 2.1 btc so far.

I jumped on the sp20's for Black friday.  I sold off all the s-3's to convert to the sp20's

With the low diff jumps they should do very well for me.

Sorry if came across wrong, I was not saying you cannot get ROI with first adopter.   Just that later adopter is able to have a chance aswell with things such as SP-20 sale they had on black friday.

I think if you have decent electricity and cold winter you can do a lot right now.
12716  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: How to use Digital Ocean and other VPS to CPU Mine on: December 13, 2014, 07:33:31 PM
Mining Magi with VPS worked, but Digital Ocean after short time cut down the ressources and I got way less hashrate than before. Vultr.com still works fine and gives even a bit more power than DO.

Mining is not only about ROI. If you only believe in short time ROI, better give up. Or mine a coin you believe in and make profit when value goes up.

What CPU coin are you mining?  I just have not seen one in a while that make sense to mine.
12717  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: bitmain s3 serial connect? on: December 13, 2014, 07:28:38 PM
I think we need to ask Bitmain more questions.  For example layout what order the 3 pins go in debug spot.

Also what program to use sending the commands.

I don't know if this is completely true.  You can be a later adopter and still get deals.  When the S4 first got a 400 off was a decent deal.  And the black friday SP20 deal was good aswell.

Just best at certain times right after change for the most part.
12719  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Building a Avalon miner on: December 13, 2014, 06:31:23 PM
Hi, I am really new on this and i have been doing some research on this lately and have decided that I want to build my own miner. I was thinking to get the board and get the chips and put the chips on there, but I don't know where to get the board from. I have seen a few projects out there like bkkcoin Klondike someone told me those can only take avalon 1 for now. So can someone point me in the right direction for buying a avalon 3 board.

P.S. I saw a video on someone putting the chips on a board, and I was just wondering, what is the jell-looking stuff that you put on the board where the chip is suppose to go.

Thanks,
Retal

As others mentioned you are better off buying the miners built.  Building your own miner has been dead since GPU days.

12720  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Antminer s3 red and green light stays on cannot log into miner on: December 13, 2014, 06:06:35 PM
I had just shipped a s3 to someone, he says it was DOA.
got it back now, but when booting it shows red and green light on(solid, no blinking)

LAN blinks but cannot ping unit or log into unit?
Ive tried reset.
turning the controller around.
plugging out one board. then only red stays on and lan blinks but still cannot log in.

Do both sides of the lan blink?   That normally shows activity if both are on or blinking. (The lights to top right and left of network cable.)
