What is a USB key???

They are talking about a usb thumb drive with a private key.  OP was wanting a safe usb and "cool"
12782  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Mining newbie. What would you do if you did not pay for electricity? on: December 05, 2014, 06:20:51 PM
- I do not get free electricity

- I have two S3's mining

- I do not know how the op is getting "Free" electricy I was just saying what I would do if I was getting free power.  When power is free it comes down to GH/$ and that is it.

- The comment about me buying 3 and selling them later was off topic I was more so just pointing out how cheap you can get S1's right now.

I am personally just waiting for the S5's to come out.  I am more of a hobby miner (sub 1k, sub 2 kw of power) and bitmain has been solid for me.  I mine so I have a "vote" in bitcoin.  IMO any true bitcoiner should have an ASIC mining away so they can "vote".  The new R-box seems perfect for this purpose, been tempted to get one actually.

My point with more modern ones was lets say he has 1k watts for mining he can get 2 S1's and get 360 GHz.   With 2 S3's + closer to 1TH, with SP 20 even under clocked around 1.3 T or so.
12783  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Dec 2 to Dec 15 diff thread. ( +0.15%) to (+0.92%) on: December 05, 2014, 05:44:27 PM
I wonder who swithched OFF ~30ph in basically one day. It plunged from 304 to 274PH.
Network was kind of weird in the last month or so-sudden surges followed by deep plunges in hashing speed.
I still stay by my conviction that it would pay for someone to purchase calls on bitcoin, then purchase hashing, switch it off and see a spike in bitcoin price soon afterwards. Rinse and repeat.

A 30PH dip can easily be attributed to variance due to bad luck... especially when that missing 30PH suddenly shows back up on the network a day or two later.
Well if you look at the 512 block hashrate chart, you will see that the hashrate is falling very quickly, likely more so then what I would personally attribute to "luck". I would say that some large farm is slowly being taken offline or inefficient miners are being taken offline as their owners are seeing they are no longer profitable.

I would predict that we see another small decline in the difficulty

Anything under 1% is good for me.

Bitwisdom is showing "Estimated Next Difficulty:    40,249,613,605 (+0.61%)" right now.  Will be one great month for miners if it could do little difficulty increase for a few in a row.  With winter could not have come at a better time.
12784  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Mining newbie. What would you do if you did not pay for electricity? on: December 05, 2014, 05:42:25 PM
I would go on kijiji and buy several S1's for $60.

You mean the used ones? And what's the guarantee that those burnt machines will give you the exact output they used to deliver to the seller? Instead, go for Spondoolies' SP20 Jackson for just $695 while you can still buy it at that rate, as the actual rate's $795... I had a discussion with Philip regarding the same and this one seems to be the best available hardware for mining currently. Wink

The S1's on kijiji offer the best $/gh on the market.

I've had them running for a year no issues, same hash rate.  Don't just throw in burnt machines to fear monger.

S1's are not good Gh/w but $/gh they cannot be beat.  I have even seen 3 going for $100, I was tempted to buy that just to gamble on the pricing going up and me being able to sell them at $100 each lol.

If electricity was free for me that would be 100% what I would do, else Bitmain or spondoolies.

It cost more, but I would argue the SP20 or S3's or S4's would be best.   Will make more S1's are dated at this point.

But be careful I'm guessing with your "free electricity" it is included in apartment or something.  Be careful not to get to many watt's assuming it's 110.  Don't want whole apartment to be miners Smiley.
12785  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Anyone in Connecticut available to come over and help on: December 05, 2014, 05:02:34 PM
Most likely you will have better luck with someone helping via teamviewer.

What miners do you have?
12786  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: ## Can you please tell us @@ How do you scammed by someone ## on: December 05, 2014, 10:50:17 AM
Are you wanting people to share their stories of how they've been scammed? And it's pretty easy to avoid: just don't send your money to scammers.

yes i wanted to know how they've been scammed...

just don't send your money to scammers
.... how i can find that he is a scammer  Huh

Common sense can go a long ways on it.  Does it sound  to good to be true, are they promising a huge return, etc.  Use escrow on trades, especially if low trust or new person you are buying from.

Other things on miners try to use a company with a long history, and also try not to pre-order.
12787  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER C1 Discussion and Support Thread on: December 05, 2014, 10:39:33 AM
whn i setup my c1 for multi pool why am i doing this?

is it for redundancy in case one pool fails? Does the machine seek the fastest pool always? Does it mine all 3 pools at once? Now I am setup with btcguild, bitminer, and slushpool.

It is incase your mining pool goes down, it will mine on 2nd pool, then third.   No this is not mining on all at the same time or is it going on fastest.  You should find fastest (and reliable) and put it in slot 1.

Also I have not tried it.   But if you are wanting to mine multiple at a time this here seems to use quota on antminer's https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=395721

Welcome to the forums.  I suggest reading some of the rules.  Begging like this is not allowed.  Feel free to share your trip idea, just don't expect money from everyone.
12790  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Antminer S5 Speculation on: December 04, 2014, 11:33:04 PM
They might use 16nm chip for S5 and push down the watt per gh/s down to like 0.2.

If they use 14nm/16NM FinFet then we won't have to deal with those swedish KnC Fudges, or risk having the building torched by some super heated Spondoolies Tech rig.

I don't think you can blame SP for the building fire.... they build a quality product.

And I would wait on bitmain vs ever using KnC.
12791  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Frustrated can I please get some help on: December 04, 2014, 11:30:27 PM
Don't sell them, keep them as a momento of the bitcoin mining history. You will not get much from them anyway.

I would agree I sold mine long ago when they were still a decent miner.  These day's they are worth so little might use them as decoration or momento as mentioned.
12792  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER C1 Discussion and Support Thread on: December 04, 2014, 07:43:03 PM
new firmware update posted today one of the changes is increased voltage to 760 This is the fix you all are looking for so I suggest anyone with flaky performance on there C1's do this update. I pushed my voltage up to match the new update and my miner is running even better then it was a 745 volts

I don't get it. I flashed the new firmware and my voltage is still the same as it was before I flashed it. I had mine at 0736. Am I supposed to change it manually to 0740 now or something?

Did you shut off the power on the PSU and then turn it back after you completed the flash?

Yes, I power cycled the units after the flash. Why is this 760 voltage important, couldn't the last firmware you enter 760 as well and reboot it? I also think I checked "save settings" so maybe that was it, but my original question remains. Was the old firmware not compatible with 760 or something or had a maximum?

I updated firmware on mine aswell.  Both stayed at the 0725 they were before update.  Is the 076 now what is recommended?

Can you please advise us Dogie what is proper setting after update?
12793  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Cloud Mining Service - Reviews on: December 04, 2014, 07:14:25 PM
It gives almost all of them good reviews.   Are you not taking price into consideration?

They are all wonderful Smiley

He ranked them so he is giving some relative comparison. You forgot the fast growing cloudmining site cloudminr, I would be very interested to see a review about it.

It just seemed like me a refferral page.  (I will admit I didn't find referrals but I didnt look hard.   Everything is just ranked to good, there was no bad or medium really.   Lots of sites were missing aswell.
12794  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Hello, BACK INTO MINING BABY! on: December 04, 2014, 07:11:58 PM
Add; are we sure that bit crane are legit?

At one time they were, just expensive.  It's been a while since ive seen someone talk about purchasing them till this.

It would not have been my first choice in companies.  But I guess to each his own.
12795  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Frustrated can I please get some help on: December 04, 2014, 05:46:47 PM
OK.  So I've tried everywhere.  First off please don't tell me that my miners are junk...it's all I could afford right now.  Second...I've got 4 Asicminer Block Erupters and 1 Antminer u2 (?).  Yes, they're plugged into a powered USB with a fan on them.  I've tried bfgminer AND cgminer and can't get either of them to work.  I've followed the instructions that i've been able to find...which is few and far between and old.  Can someone please tell me what I'm doing wrong?
Also, when I do get the cgminer (i think) to run, it says that they're too slow to be an icarus and calibrating, but then I get nothing.  I see that they're working, but that they're not totally connecting.  I have class today so it will be a while before I can respond again...but I do appreciate anyone willing to help me and provide some guidance!
Thanks in Advance!

What OS are you using? Standard installation goes like this:

1. Download Zadig ( http://zadig.akeo.ie/ ) for OS you are using.
2. Plug in all USB miners into working USB hub.
3. Run Zadig and install USB driver, you might need to select Options > List All Devices in order for USB miners to show up on central drop-down menu.
4. If all is done correctly you should see five CP2012 USB to UART Bridge Controllers added to your system (Control Panel > Devices and Printers).
5. Download and use older version of CGMiner ( http://ck.kolivas.org/apps/cgminer/4.1/ works flawlessly for me).

If you are using WinXP there is an issue with all Asicminer USB Erupters having the same ID and causing WinXP to not recognize more than 2 or 3 devices, to fix that you will need to reprogram miner EPROM with different ID for each device.

Also if you are not do 1 at a time.  It is slower but you will make sure each one is working this way.  It will also make sure your powered hub is powerful enough.
12796  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Mining equipment Question For Mining experts using 220 V electric on: December 04, 2014, 04:18:58 AM
Try different difficulty 256, or 512.  If that does not help switch pools, as some pools might be better to your location then others.  Most dragons run pretty much 1 T and don't very much if set right.
12797  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Dogecoin creator states Bitcoin can be taken down by a raid on mining farms on: December 04, 2014, 04:16:35 AM
This was mentioned in the context of a governement trying to shut down Bitcoin. What if a government were able to simultaneous launch a mining farm raid and a 51% attack? I think it would cost them a fortune with little result.

People like to scare others with this.   It's used to cause fear.   What government could get 51 percent without notice, and actually preform this attack?

I will sleep easy and don't worry about the 51 percent attack on BTC at least.  Some small coins.... maybe.   BTC is not going to happen.
12798  Other / Off-topic / Re: Are you spending your Bitcoin? on: December 04, 2014, 02:55:12 AM
How much BTC do you have now ?  Huh  0.25 BTC
How much did you spent?  Roll Eyes 0.75 BTC
How much did you lost or scammed by someone?  Cry  2499 BTC

The moral of the story is to never share your true net worth or wealth online in any environment of forum.

Sorry if this is off track.  But can you shared story on losing that much?  What happened?  Sorry for your loss :/
12799  Other / MultiBit / Re: Help 6.35 BITCOINS STOLEN FROM MULTIBIT WALLET on: December 04, 2014, 02:53:24 AM
my computer was shut down all night and there is no one who could send it

Someone must have gotten your private key, via some malware or other intrusion. Accept the mistake, clean your computer thoroughly, and start anew. Sob stories aren't accepted well on Bitcointalk, while constructive analysis of a problem is.

Do not invest more until you scan computer and find the virus or malaware.  Might try encryption, I highly suggest it.
12800  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Dogecoin creator states Bitcoin can be taken down by a raid on mining farms on: December 04, 2014, 02:51:03 AM
Anyone that has 51 percent would be a huge player (pool or other party).   Assuming they want to stay in business a 51 percent attack would not be logical for them to do.

I just don't see it happening even if 25 percent of network was taken down.  Companies are to invested to just do a attack, they would lose their future earnings.
