They said earlier that they would be keeping a close eye on hash/$ ratio during development. Does this mean that they might increase the hashing power of the machines closer to shipping if the difficulty increases too much or the price of btc drops significantly ?

Yes. they said that, if they have to do that in order to keep the products competetive, and profitable for us miners, they of course would.

What's really, really crucial to bear in mind though is time.

Marcus is a freakin' wizard, amd a perfectionist, but Sam is keen to reign him in w.r.t. time and not loose sight of that. The goal IS September. ANY delays and you will be given evidence of any issues with respect to third parties, this is the area for contention with BFL, why are they not giving this? They have more than one PCB fabricator on case of one letting them down. I went through multiple scenarios of weak links and impressively they had answers.

Their 28nm chip is relatively uncomplicated in comparison to what they have done in the past, but it has to work first time and well. They may revise it in future, Marcus has an itch to do just that, but they have a promise of September to fulfill.

There are multiple future tweaks on the cards, there may even be liquid cooling options for those not housing in data centres. Though you risk invalidating warranty with DIY OC'ing.

From an entrepreneurial standpoint what was your impression of the team? Do you feel more confident now that you have met them, what did/does your gut tell you?

Run for the hills or Mortgage the house?

Hello, I am new to the whole bitcoin thing, and now with bitcoins being all over the news I figure I should get into it.  I just got my first wallet open and next paycheck I will buy my first coin.  In the mean time I figured I would post on here asking if anyone wanted to donate some bitcoins to my wallet, my wallet is very empty and it would be really nice if someone could give me a jump start, I will take anything, as I am not wealthy and anything is better then nothing.  So if you have any extra coins, or are extremely wealthy and want to help out a someone new in the bitcoin world, send some coins my way.  Thanks for any help
Send any donations to:

Try bitminter instead.

Gave up on that one a while ago.  Was running against 50BTC since they seemed to pay out fairly well.  Decided to try something different for a while.  Smiley

Besides, it looks like on average Eligius will net me more than I was getting through any of the others.

I started out with eligius, but when I saw my share count go down after having to stop my rig for maintenance, I bailed (in addition to him calling me a pool hopper). It didn't seem fair that all of that work went for nothing, On bitminter, you can shutdown for an entire night and not lose anything.

Wrong topic title!! Should be "Meet the world's first Bitcoin baby"!!

Ermm, nope maybe you should read the article.

Quote
Dr. C. Terence Lee, a fertility specialist based in Brea, Calif., flashes a photo of a beaming infant across a projection screen and announces: "This baby was bought with bitcoins."
No, this isn't a black-market deal brokered in the Internet's shadowy corners. The child was born thanks to a frozen embryo transfer cycle paid for with bitcoins. Lee says it's the first time he's aware of that anyone has paid for fertility treatments that way.

yeah, the article title is "Meet the world's first Bitcoin baby"

Whatever the title should be this article is classic CNN click bait, little of substance, just using the bitcoin name to garner attention

I am ok with that, any news at this point is good news.
1286  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Eligius having problems? on: June 10, 2013, 11:34:22 PM
Just wondering if anyone else is having problems seeing stats on Eligius.  The stats page for my address takes forever to load, then when it does finish, none of the graphs are there.

Just tried going to the Blocks stats page, and it's also slow to load.

Hmm, going back to just eligius.st loads fine.  Seems it is anything under eligius.st/~wizkid057/newstats that is a problem.

Try bitminter instead.
1287  Economy / Goods / Re: Thinking about creating my own physical Bitcoin... on: June 10, 2013, 11:26:00 PM
any chance of making small denominations?

0.01, 0.05, 0.10?
I was thinking about 1 BTC, 500 mBTC, and 100 mBTC.  I could go smaller to 50 mBTC and 10 mBTC, but the cost would have to be much higher than the face value to make them viable.  On the 10 mBTC piece, I'd have to charge around 45mBTC per coin just to cover variable costs, and the final price would likely be much higher than that.  But, I am still looking at various coin minters - I may be able to find a lower cost minter.

So, I think it is a definite possibility to go down to at least 100 mBTC, and possibly 50 mBTC.  I don't know that 10 mBTC is practical at this point though.

Thank you, I appreciate the feedback, having smaller denominations like this really helps to spread the word about these things.

Sure I could buy 10 Casascious coins but that would cost me $1000+ USD. I would love to be able to buy $100.00 of .05 BTC coins to send to my friends, family, holiday gifts etc.

1289  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: KnCMiner Openday Wednesday 5th & Monday 10th June on: June 10, 2013, 10:55:48 PM
I attended the openday today. Met bitcoinorama and a few others.
It was pretty informative, we got through allt the questions and then some. It's probably gonna take him a while to write up all the q&a's, and he should have an audio recording to help him out.
I got the same impression as the last crew. They seemed really confident to be able to get product out by september, multiple buffers and backups along the way. They couldnt understand how/why it could have gone so wrong for bfl.

Some good news from the openday, finally.

So after visiting what is your honest impression?
Are you investing in them?
