12961  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: #BitcoinSurvey 2016 seeking participants - 1.25 bitcoin in rewards on: April 21, 2016, 06:01:15 AM
What is the goal of this survey? It is the first time I see a survey being done in several different languages, so that is something refreshing. You can now break up this survey results according to regions, which is quite clever. The reward is also a good idea, and will most probably increase the participants.

Keep us posted with the outcome of this survey, I would like to know how many people still make use of faucets these days. ^smile^
12962  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I got hacked , All my Bitcoin and Litecoin lost on: April 21, 2016, 05:31:57 AM
Why in the world would you store ALL your bitcoins in one address? I have several paper wallets with small amounts of coins distributed in many locations. I will never lose everything in one hack, because nothing is stored on my computer. I use a Trezor wallet for day to day stuff and there is very little money on there.

If this is true, then this is a tragedy that could have been prevented. NEVER store ALL your coins in one wallet. ^hmm^
12963  Economy / Services / Re: Will Draw Anything for you $1 - Unique Style on: April 20, 2016, 06:46:27 AM
You are building something good, and when there is love for your work, the payment is not that important. I would suggest you signup for a service like ChangeTip and post your url link with your work on Reddit and on Imgur and ask for donations.

You are very talented and should build a good portfolio for your work. The $1 entry is point is a good starting point to build on. I have introduced a graphic designer to Bitcoin recently and he has been making more money from Bitcoin in the last 3 weeks, than what he usually get from fiat income. ^smile^
12964  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Game over! China double spent bitcoin! on: April 20, 2016, 06:33:17 AM
That is not a double spend. its just the betting site fucking up.
He knows all that. This guy foolishly lost all his bitcoin and now posts crap like this all day from his Mom's basement. I have never seen anyone wish so hard for something that is just not gona happen. lol

Soooooooooooooo lol, from his Mom's basement. Well now getting back to the topic, this is not at all an attack, is just the site Bitbet screwing it up big time. Next time choose a better site to play, as there are a whole lot more reputable sites for this activity. As a matter of fact I just learned for the first time for bitbet from this topic.

Many people got scammed by BitBet and they even don't want to add tx fee or deduct small amount bitcoin from player from tx fee.
Guess he also don't know BitBet reputation at all.

Yep, stuff like this comes up regularly from their side : https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=339544.0 I would suggest you write a bad review on sites like this, http://bittrust.org/bitbet if you felt cheated or list them on this site as a bad bet. http://www.badbitcoin.org/

We should work together to highlight the dodgy Bitcoin sites on the internet.

12965  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Phishing for Bitcoin prompts Google Secuirty warning on: April 20, 2016, 06:16:08 AM
People are worried about the user-generated content, but what about the proprietary software that it was built on or the OS it is running on. Companies like Google and Microsoft has been data mining for years and we do not know, where this data ends up and what government sanctioned projects have been going on behind closed doors.

You have no privacy and your data is being collected without your consent, whether you like it or not. Deal with it.
12966  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: conversation with IBM consulting on: April 20, 2016, 06:04:40 AM
I think any other company can easily catch up to Bitcoin now, because it is not protected with intellectual property rights and there are nobody claiming it. In my opinion this is public domain and individuals and big companies can copy the code and just tweak it a little bit and then use it. We have many Alt coins as proof of this.

Mike Hearn will help R3 to do this, with his knowledge and experienced gained from the Bitcoin Blockchain and they will roll this out, within this year or 2017. Mark my words today
12967  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Which project to overthrow a silicon valley giant? on: April 20, 2016, 05:53:29 AM
eBay and Amazon might be in a spot of bother, if you ask me. Bitcoin has been growing rapidly as a alternative payment option, with pretty good features. < Micro payments / low fees / No chargebacks > and services built on top of Bitcoin, like OpenBazaar, will also be competition for centralized marketplaces.

We will have to see what the future will bring, but these companies are going to lose some market share to Bitcoin and OpenBazaar. ^smile^
12968  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: People hate Bitcoins? on: April 20, 2016, 05:47:19 AM
I would rather rephrase this question to : Do people envy Bitcoin? or Do people despise Bitcoin? There are a lot of people out there, who might have been burned by Bitcoin. It might have been because of some scam where they lost some money or they might have bought bitcoins when the price were very high and it declined to much lower prices and they are not getting returns on their investment.

Do they hate Bitcoin? No They are just envious on the people who made profits from the technology and they should hate the scammers, NOT the technology.
12969  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Japan is starting to love bitcoin again... on: April 20, 2016, 05:34:01 AM

Soaring volumes.
还是天朝比较疯狂

Google translate = Compare crazy or heavenly  Huh Huh Huh I would love to hear from the Japanese people themselves, and what their view is on this. How did the MtGox issue influence their governments opinion on Bitcoin? Did they change their opinion?

They have always been at the front of new IT technology, so I should think that they would embrace Bitcoin, if it was not for the MtGox scandal. They also love to gamble, and this would be the ideal platform for them to take some risks, with the Yen price declining. ^smile^
12970  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2016-04-18] Privacy Enhancing Techniques To Use Within The Crypto Ecosystem on: April 19, 2016, 06:39:05 AM
This is the best advice they could have given us, " Lastly, we consider the strict "Know Your Customer" (KYC) regulations put in place by practically all crypto/fiat exchanges. One should never send funds to such exchanges directly from an address that carries the bulk of your funds, as the remainder of the funds would be probably belonging to you. Do you really want the exchange (who is beholden to regulators) to know the full extent of your holdings?

I would also add the use of trusted mixer services to hide your transaction footprint on the Blockchain. You are never 100% private, but you could be, if you use the basic guidelines posted on this site. The pseudo anonymity of Bitcoin will only protect you from the ordinary inquisitive people, not from specialist agencies and experienced hackers.
12971  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: In 2010/2011 Bitcoin was really exciting! on: April 19, 2016, 06:23:46 AM
I think the excitement about Bitcoin came, when in 2013 it breached the $200 price for the first time and then again in 2014 when it went above $1000. People flocked to Bitcoin in droves and we had a real buzz going on in this forum. People were happy and fun projects were started and competitions launched and also some nice puzzles.

Since then, a lot of this excitement has died down and I get the feeling a lot of people are waiting for the price to increase to those levels again for them to sell out. If you entered the Bitcoin scene in 2014, when the price were above $1000, this ride must be pretty terrifying and boring. ^hmmmmm^
12972  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: SECURITY, Have you been a victim? How safe are your bitcoins? on: April 19, 2016, 06:10:30 AM
A friend of mine got hacked a while ago, but he admitted to re-using passwords for different sites. He also used online services for email and those accounts were not protected with 2FA. You will get hacked, if you make the basic mistakes like this.

# Never re-use the same password for multiple sites.
# Use 2FA where available
# Store the majority of your coins offline and hide your private key.
# Buy a Hardware wallet for day to day payments.
# Update your AV software
# Use Virtual machines to test out new services or websites.

I hope these tips will be helpful to anyone reading this, it has worked for me thus far. ^smile^
12973  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: My first confirmation is taking way to Effing long!!! on: April 19, 2016, 05:56:51 AM
If a more experienced user like OP fails to calculate the appropriate fee for faster transaction confirmation, how would a newbie user be able to calculate this. Some wallet providers calculate this fee for the user, but a new user might not use these services. In this aspect I agree with OP, we should make this option more user friendly for the users, otherwise new users will think this is the norm and then turn their back on Bitcoin.

I can share his frustration, because I have made this mistake too, when I added a fee higher than required minimum fee and it still took longer than what I anticipated. ^hmmmm^
12974  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Advertising Bitcoin : responsibility of the community on: April 19, 2016, 05:45:41 AM
I tried a lot of things :

# We have regular meetups, where we invite people to listen to experienced users with Q&A sessions.
# We have done Bitcoin drops.
# We distributed Bitcoin pamphlets with links to online resources.
# We approached merchants and explained the advantages for them to accept Bitcoin as a payment method.

I found that the best way to promote Bitcoin was to give people the opportunity to earn Bitcoin and then have them spending it online. This way they learn hands-on what the difference is between Bitcoin and the other online payment methods. So we should find ways for people to earn Bitcoins and also increase merchant adoption for them to have places to spend it.  ^smile^
12975  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: Blockchain is offline for one hour now on: April 19, 2016, 05:36:17 AM
They go offline now and again for maintenance, so you will experience problems during these times. I usually check in on Reddit /r/Bitcoin when this happens, because they are quick to report on problems, when services are down. I sometimes get a "time-out" error when the lines are congested.

These things happen, and we should accept that services might go down at some time. Just distribute your coins to more services for security and also to have coins available, when one of these sites goes down or get a hardware wallet like Trezor.
12976  Other / Off-topic / Re: Best place to get a free dog on: April 18, 2016, 11:25:59 AM
Some people wear a dog like a fashion item, a typical example : Paris Hilton's chihuahua < I know, she had 17 dogs at one stage in her life, but had to get rid of some of them, due to municipal regulations > These people buy pedigree dogs, like we buy expensive cars. It is all about the show and little or nothing to do about the animal.

Some of these dog, looks like the owner stuck his thumb up their ass. ^LoL^

12977  Economy / Speculation / Re: Value of Bitcoin at end of 2016, beginning of 2017 ::: Predictions? on: April 18, 2016, 09:48:00 AM
The partnership between Barclays and Circle gives me some hope for the future. I saw all these banks working on private Blockchains and I started to doubt it's future, but news like this gives me some inspiration that everything is not lost.

If Circle can take Bitcoin mainstream with this partnership, we will see prices touching the $1000+ levels again. We will just need to wait for them and also to see how much OpenBazaar will add to the volume of use. ^smile^
12978  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Brock Pierce and why Bitcoin does not need his skeevy connection on: April 18, 2016, 09:36:16 AM
The Bitcoin Foundation has no relevance anymore and they are much weaker than they were in 2012 when they were at their peak. Nobody wanted them back then and nobody wants them now. The original members included Gavin Andresen, Charlie Shrem, Mark Karpeles, Peter Vessenes, Roger Ver, and Patrick Murck. What is more scary than some of these people?

I thought Brock Pierce was a victim of this? If you browse this forum you will find a lot of discussion about this during that time. ^smile^ https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=613214.0 Was these allegations ever proven in courts?

12979  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do we need ebay like site to promote bitcoin on: April 18, 2016, 09:18:28 AM
eBay has partnered with PayPal and you will not break that bond easily. These payment processors offer centralized services not possible with Bitcoin. You cannot get your account locked with Bitcoin, when you use services that are not approved by the masters of the financial systems.

The users of these systems are so used to the way these sites operate, that it would be weird for them to move to something that gives them complete freedom. ^smile^
12980  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Which country does NOT use Bitcoin? on: April 18, 2016, 09:05:21 AM
Some of these countries acknowledge Bitcoin as a commodity, but do not allow it to be used as a currency. Some ban it outright. Here is a old link not posted yet : http://www.bitcoinvalues.net/list-countries-banned-bitcoin.html Since then most countries has calmed down and settled into a much better approach towards Bitcoin.

The Wiki link posted, has some more updated information on the banned sites. Some countries do not ban it, but the infrastructure is so poor, that it is difficult to support it. < Try running a node on dialup modems >
