1301  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Other Alternatives to Borrowing Money to Start Trading on: May 21, 2023, 04:59:58 AM
The reason why nobody lends any money to traders is because since they are asking for a loan means they don’t know how to trade. Since they don’t know how to trade they will lose that money and won’t pay you back.

If all you got is $100 then you can practice with small positions and see if you can actually make any money. After 100 trades or so, if you came out ahead then that $100 should be $500 or $1000 and now you don’t need to borrow money.
1302  Economy / Economics / Re: Not all banks are going bust. on: May 21, 2023, 04:57:30 AM
Here in Canada, Banks have these incentives from time to time. Last one I got was like $300 to just open a chequing account at a bank and leave a balance for 3 months and make a few bill payments. Other banks had similar offers. Generally they are from the big banks.

They do this because they pay crappy interest. I can put my savings in a money market and make 4-5% and do nothing and it’s risk free. So for some with a low balance it’s not a bad incentive but no point in moving the money back and forth this way.
1303  Economy / Economics / Re: When will we stop living for the weekend? Escaping the 9-5 life. on: May 21, 2023, 04:53:23 AM
This is why the new norm is work from home. People are sick of the 9-5 jobs in cubicles where they basically do something online which they can easily do at home.

Hence they work from home and enjoy spending more time with families. Many businesses ended the work from home options and people just quit and found a job elsewhere because they liked that life style.

Who wants to be stuck in traffic for 1 hour then work 9 to 5 and be stuck in traffic for another hour and come home at 6pm.
1304  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wrong Predictions as price keep failing! on: May 21, 2023, 04:49:49 AM
If it was easy predicting bitcoins price then everybody would be doing it. Look how many people in late 2021 were thinking we would go to $100K or something crazy like $1M.

Then in 2022 as we kept pulling back all the financial influencers were saying to buy at $50K then $40K then $30K and then $20K and finally told to short at $15K.

Hence why you shouldn’t listen to these people.
1305  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: What position you make more profit, buy or sell? on: May 20, 2023, 04:02:36 AM
It’s always easier to make money buying than selling. Basically when you buy it can go up forever when you sell or short it can go against you forever and you can have a big loss. When you buy the most you can lose is what you paid for it.

Shorting certain alt coins has proven to be fatal especially in a bear market. You cannot under estimate how much a alt coin can be pumped. Imagine shorting PEPE a few days before the Binance listing. Would of been a massive massive loss for shorts.
1306  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: How stable is USDT in the banking crisis of 2023? on: May 20, 2023, 03:59:19 AM
The stablecoin reserves are not cash which are held at a bank. Most stablecoin companies buy short term bonds to make money off all that money. Hence why tether had a great year last year.

These treasuries are then held in a trust. I think with USDC it was with Goldman Sachs. Treasuries are very safe since the government won’t default when they can just print the money out of thin air. Hence it’s safer than keeping in a bank.
1307  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: scalping Bitcoin vs. other assets on: May 20, 2023, 03:54:59 AM
If you really want to trade the nasdaq 100 then you should open a stock brokerage account like Robinhood and trade it there. It will be much much safer since your funds are insured. If you need some leverage you can get 3x margin or trade the leveraged ETFs. If you want to go degen then you can always trade the options for nasdaq.

In my option trading crypto is easier because there is more transparency. With stocks you are going against very large instititions that have more knowledge and money than you. Hence it’s a lot harder to make money that way.
1308  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Ledger hardware wallet offering custody for seed backups on: May 20, 2023, 03:50:57 AM
Someone asked on Reddit what would happen if some government sent a subpoena to Ledger and asked for a seed of a user, and they basically stated that they would have to provide it to the government. They are basically digging themselves in a larger and larger hole and don’t think they will survive as a company after this incident.

They really should of at least hired some PR instead of having all these amateur responses all over social media. And they definitely shouldn’t of started this recovery program. Most people wouldn’t be ok with it given with how easy it is to get your funds stolen.
1309  Economy / Economics / Re: Is the US default a reality? on: May 19, 2023, 04:02:54 AM
This issue happens almost every year. There might be a government shutdown while they work to find a solution how to cut spending but they will raise the debt ceiling and won’t default. A default would create havoc and make things worse.

They already printed money like crazy so why stop now. The 1m yield for US bonds is very high. However it’s not out of the norm like with a 10-20% yield which would mean there is a huge possibility of a default. Hence why I don’t think there will be a default.
1310  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Ledger hardware wallet offering custody for seed backups on: May 19, 2023, 03:57:34 AM
Whether you opt to use the service or perform the upgrade isn’t the issue. The issue is that the way the device was designed was poorly because it shouldn’t be possible to extract the seed with a firmware upgrade which gets sent over the internet.

That seed should of never been able to leave the device. But we learnt that it’s not the case here. What if there is some fake software upgrade and people upgrade theirs and get their crypto stolen since it’s possible to extract the seed. What’s the point of the hardware wallet. Might as well stick with electrum.
1311  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Guess keys per second etc, vb6 bitcoin guesser on: May 19, 2023, 03:51:46 AM
It’s possible that the way he coded his program was to start at private key 0. Which is low entropy. And these have been sweeped years ago but someone maybe sent some funds to one address which has a low entropy key but the fee to sweep it is higher than the value of the bitcoins inside, since fees are high right now.

I highly doubt he found some actual Bitcoin address which was generated using an actual Bitcoin wallet. Highly unlikely or actually impossible to run into those collisions.
1312  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: 100.000% ROI On this memecoin ? ? ? ? on: May 18, 2023, 03:43:16 AM
Yes there are tons of these tokens released every day. But guess what. So are hundreds of others and you have no idea which one will be a 100x coin.

Most 95% or so are total scams. And once in a while you get a big runner such as this but it’s hard to find ones which are worthwhile and have potential.

1313  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: How to Assess a Memecoin and Not Get Scammed ;) on: May 18, 2023, 03:35:37 AM
Yeah after the Pepe pump I went to dextools and was going to buy a few promising meme tokens however at the amount of rugs and scams I figured I should stay away.

Another thing I found is that some tokens have a sell tax. Sometimes it’s 100%. So I am assuming since it’s called a tax, most likely every sell goes to the dev creator. So pretty much another honey pot type of deal.

I think the meme hype is over. Fees are lower and don’t see these meme tokens hitting ATH anytime soon.
1314  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: The Importants of PSYCHOLOGY in a trader on: May 18, 2023, 03:30:17 AM
There is a book called Trading in the Zone, it’s a very old book. I read it maybe a decade ago but it’s probably almost 20 years old now. But it’s basically outlines the greatest challenges for traders.

If you read the first chapter you will read the entire book pretty much. It basically explains why sometimes getting the courage to take a trade in the first place is no difference than having a loosing trade and not closing it too early out of fear.

Read it and you will be amazed how accurate it is.
1315  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Ledger hardware wallet offering custody for seed backups on: May 18, 2023, 03:14:15 AM
A lot of people are smashing their ledgers into pieces when they announced a service to custody people’s seeds. This sparked outrage because it makes it possible for the secret seed to be extracted from the device.

A year ago or so they claimed it’s impossible for the seed to leave the device and now they are claiming it’s possible.

No funds were stolen but it seems that hardware wallets aren’t as safe as people assumed. The biggest issue here is that it’s not open source and no one can verify if it’s actually secure.

What are your thoughts?
1316  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: The biggest No while trading on: May 17, 2023, 04:51:11 AM
What you are talking about is basically trading when you are on tilt. It’s a poker term. It means you are losing money and are taking irrational bets to win it back. These trades you take don’t make sense they are more revenge trading. And what normally happens you blow your entire account.

Pretty sure this happened to most traders in their early career and you need to control emotions and not let one trade spiral into a loss which ends up blowing your entire account.
1317  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Which wallet should a beginner choose? on: May 17, 2023, 04:49:07 AM
If you are only going to invest $200. Then just keep it on the exchange. Basically get a unique password, use non sms 2fa and don’t click any phishing links and your exchange will keep it safe for you.

You can get hardware wallet but for amounts that low it’s not worth it. You can try using electrum offline which would be free. Try and search this forum for instructions.
1318  Economy / Economics / Re: Financial education or 1million dollars on: May 17, 2023, 04:45:16 AM
Yes financial education should be taugh in schools, especially in high school before you are an adult and start to get loans. There are some loans which are fine like mortgages. But way too many people are getting into huge credit card debt, auto loan debt and they becomes slaves to the debt.

It’s very easy to fall into this hole. You get some unexpected expense and don’t pay off the credit card, then you are charged interest. Then if you lose your job it gets worse. And eventually you need to declare bankruptcy.
1319  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [Link] How to be eligible for potential ZkSync retrospective airdrop on: May 16, 2023, 04:21:38 AM
I know this would be retroactive airdrop meaning there is no guarantee that zksync made an aidrop right. But since arb and uniswap doing the same thing maybe Im gonna join in. the truth is how much money should we invested through this occasion. The Mainnet fee is relatively cheap but do LP and doing transaction is money-consuming right. and how much time we should do back and forth transaction like this

Yes you gotta pretty much waste money to be able to get this airdrop, it won’t be free. It’s expensive to bridge to ZkSync chain and then the fees aren’t cheap either to transact.

I find it that on weekends fees are lower so try it out then. Do maybe one transaction a month at least. The more obviously the better and higher volume is preferred.

There is SyncSwap where you can be a LP and get extra points that way. A lot of work. Hopefully it pays off.
1320  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Bitcoin vs XRP? on: May 16, 2023, 04:16:48 AM
Well I am not agreeing with you entirely but what you say is true. You will probably make much more money investing in Alts rather than Bitcoin because the market cap is lower.

This is why many people bought PePE recently because it did a 200x which is not possible now with Bitcoin. However keep in mind that the smaller the market cap the higher the risk. Bitcoin won’t go to 0 most likely but these altcoins and meme coins have a very good chance of heading to 0.
