13101  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What do You Look For in an Altcoin? on: November 27, 2015, 10:48:52 PM
If I were to buy and hold, an altcoin should have all of these characteristics.

- A high daily trading volume and a really great buy support.

- A high and growing daily transaction volume.

- An active Github.

- A good, solid (and growing) community of people building useful stuff on it.

- VC and big FI interest on the stuff being built on top.

Sadly, there's no altcoin that I'm willing to buy and hold yet.  It's easy becoming a bagholder in this game.  Hopefully that changes soon.

13102  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: GEMZ iOS added around 10k downloads in 30 days on: November 27, 2015, 11:53:23 AM
Yeah for sure.  It's a good idea.  Hopefully we see this really pick up in the future.
13103  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: GEMZ iOS added around 10k downloads in 30 days on: November 27, 2015, 11:45:01 AM
With its latest Airdrop update and some other updates, iOS downloads went up by 88% or 9244 downloads to be exact in the last 30 days and sitting at around 20794 downloads total for iOS. Android sits on 10k downloads total. Combined Gemz userbase sits little more than 30k. If this pace keeps going Gemz will be the second biggest Crypto regarding network effect, 30k is already in the top coins i think. Also amount of viewers went up by 105%.

Assuming the pace continues, yes.  But it will slow down.  Sustainable growth is a big problem among start ups.

In mainstream terms such growth is normal not really fast, tho in crypto terms it's fast, but the app is in mainstreams reachability so plenty of growth available. I actually would love to know the userbase of top 5 alts, any idea?

No idea.  But how much is Gemz's daily trading volume and daily transcation volume in USD?

At the moment not suitiable for day trading, it has had often top 3 most bitcoins in the buy side. But network effect is more important at the moment, when the attention economy gets implemented gemz will get a real value, but you need a big userbase for that which is what's being worked on. Buying gemz straight from the app will be perfect then since no mainstream user will really use poloniex. Often people ask what makes bitcoin have a breight future, ususally the answer is always because of its network effect.

If there's very thin buy support then it wouldn't be advisable to invest large sums either.  One could lose a lot and then baghold.

And branding Ethereum as an outright scam ala Bobsurplus is taking it overboard.  The world's biggest banks are looking into using its blockchain for fucks sake.
13105  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: General Opinion on Ethereum on: November 27, 2015, 10:17:39 AM
It's interesting indeed.  And some of the projects on Ethereum are interesting as well.  This one caught my eye  http://slock.it

13106  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: General Opinion on Ethereum on: November 27, 2015, 07:42:24 AM
Yeah..  Whatever that makes the price low and stays low is good.  Cheesy
13107  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Most Profitable Altcoins to Exchange to BTC? on: November 27, 2015, 07:35:19 AM
BURST on poloniex, you can trade it, it just made 100% gain last weeks, and is still very cheap in my opinion.

Volume is too low, the chart doesn't really look good and it looks like it's not gonna trend up at the moment.

https://poloniex.com/exchange#btc_burst

Be careful with making these comments.  Someone might actually buy in with their kid's college fund and realize that they're bagholding in a month or two.
Why would you use your kids college fund in an altcoin in the first place...
May as well just use the cash for fire wood.

Exactly why some people thought they were conned into buying altcoins.  They bought in with their hard earned money, and lost most of it.  Now some of them are crying, whining and fudding.

A coin name l337 just screams "hidden virus!"

Or "pwned!"

13110  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Doing a Paper on Cloud Mining... on: November 27, 2015, 01:03:38 AM
Hey guys,

I'm doing a paper on cloud mining and I'm in the research stage.  Could you give me some links to which ones are the best in the industry.  I've started research on Genesis Mining and I was wondering which other ones are among the top.

Thanks.

Are you doing a paper on the legit cloudmining services out there, which are not too many or are you also doing a research on usefulness if cloudmining in general since this would be a completely different story in my opinion!

But yes, as others have suggested Bit-X and Hashnest are the leaders and two of the few that are not scammers!

Mostly the legit ones.  Even the ones that have failed but were legit.

The scams will have a mention as well just for completeness sake.  Grin

How indepth is this paper need to be?  Bit-x was suggested the good thing about it is you can point to Bitfury hardware so gives you some more info you can add to paper, depending if  you need filler.

If you really need even more info or filler on paper Hashnest you could do all the way down to specific miner.  So even more detail depending on what part you show.

But I think the how indepth and what you need to show is going to be key to what is a good or bad site to show.

Not that indepth as of now.  I'm still doing a general research on the legit and successful ones and find out who they are.

But the general idea of the paper will be the evolution of cloud mining.

A Turing-complete, intelli-hashing smart-chain is the next logical step in the Bitcoin --> Monero --> X progression.

It's not an easy thing to accomplish, and I don't know if VB is the right guy for the job.

But I am totally down for the cause.  If we don't get it right the first (or second, or third) time, we'll learn from previous mistakes.

It has to happen, or the statists win and their jackbooted thugs stomp on the face of humanity forever.   Angry

getting a little Orwellian, are we?  Grin

LTC is being pumped by OKCoin.  I wonder for how long...?
13117  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: General Opinion on Ethereum on: November 26, 2015, 12:39:48 AM
I think that a lot of people think Ether is something that it is not..

I really can't explain it..

Anything that's traded in the open market will trend sooner or later.

Watch LTC.  It could be a start of a trend.  But we'll see.

Caveat.  I am not a licensed trader.

There's a big possibility it's your newbishness.  Because 'someone' 'changing' your password in NXT is very very unlikely.
13120  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: General Opinion on Ethereum on: November 25, 2015, 05:02:31 AM
Interesting concept.
Worth watching how it develops.

Mostly this.  No plans to buy in but it's good to be ready in case ETH trends.
