1200usd was reached because of mt.gox where bot was buying at insanely high prices with no fiat.

Thousands of people paid real money on legit (ish) exchanges at that price too. And China was the engine behind that rise ultimately.
13142  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Russia officially allows Bitcoin on: August 31, 2016, 04:44:59 PM
I give it another few day before someone else there starts dropping heavy threats. These tossers need to get together and actually form a unified front. It's deadly dull now.
13143  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Opinion on: August 31, 2016, 04:43:41 PM
Bitcoin itself? The jury's out and staying out for a good while yet. The ideas Bitcoin has created and fostered? Absolutely.
13144  Economy / Speculation / Re: Warning on: August 30, 2016, 11:43:48 PM
Yeah, no shit to that. The only thing I'm legendary at is losing out on shitcoin pumps and trading bitcoin poorly. However, I'm still kicking around here which means I haven't lost my ass - a lot more than I can say for most.

Sticking around for long enough counts for a little something. At least the oldies have seen more. However that also means there's a considerably higher possibility of them being insane, bitter and filled with bizarro grudges too. I'm not sure too much crypto is very good for one's mental health or faith in humanity.
13145  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Undocumented Human Tour Embarks on Second Trip Around US on: August 30, 2016, 11:38:00 PM
I know of a couple of people who've never registered their children. If I were one of their children and grew up I would probably kick their fucking teeth in for denying me the ability to work, drive, go abroad, live anywhere or have a bank account should I wish it without undergoing insane ball ache if it's possible at all.

It may be sucky but this is the world we live in and I wouldn't be too happy being denied the chance to live a normal life.
13146  Other / Off-topic / Re: What are you doing with Bitcoin? on: August 30, 2016, 11:04:18 PM
Spending, hoarding/accumulating, earning, throwing it away on the occasional alt. I'm in the UK and the options for spending it are very limited compared to places like the US. I'd be spending more if I had the opportunities.
13147  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Exchanges , a "Free" alternative to mixers ? on: August 30, 2016, 11:00:45 PM
I've been known to get up to this as well and it works fine. I certainly wouldn't do it if my anonymity was vital for whatever reason. They're not in the business of disguising you and I'm sure plenty of logs are kept.
13148  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2016-08-29] Bloomburg.com| New Digital Currency Spikes as Drug Dealers Get on: August 30, 2016, 10:39:06 PM

The point is, I'm extremely doubtful that anyone would jump on the Monero train and not have their network severely disrupted by law enforcement if it indeed became the "currency of the darknet". Its simply too small and too poorly secured.

I'd say the odds of that are zero. LE doesn't have any deputised hash power lying around and screwing with a currency just means everyone'll switch to something else.

If XMR really did get some momentum then you can count on Bitcoin maximalists to attack them. They'll attack other Bitcoin iterations so a whole, and much smaller, rival would be too much to resist.
13149  Other / Off-topic / Re: [POLL] Are you Gay ? on: August 30, 2016, 10:31:04 PM
If left alone with an internet and a spare sock to put over my winkle I will choose to look at naked ladies. But who knows? Maybe Mr Right is out there waiting for me somewhere.
13150  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: August 30, 2016, 10:21:16 PM

Poloniex would.  From what I can tell they're the new "crook exchange on the block."

Also, is that the total number at the bottom?  If so it's short about 40K.

The comment below the main bit adds the rest. I do wonder about Poloniex. If I was running the place I'd either be shitting myself about being hacked or having some angry men abseiling through my window asking about money transmitting

I think that's the list of addresses. I'd be surprised if even the crappiest alt exchange would accept them but who knows? I'd love to know where previously stolen coins had ended up. People seem to collectively forget about them soon after it happens.
13152  Economy / Speculation / Re: Warning on: August 30, 2016, 08:32:56 PM
Fear Uncertainty Doubt or probably more often Facts U Dislike. One man's fud is another's straightforward truth.
13153  Economy / Speculation / Re: Why price of Bitcoin too stable? on: August 30, 2016, 07:06:29 PM
Doing nothing is what Bitcoin does much of the time. Its second favourite thing to do is fall. Rising comes a distant third.

No one's interested in buying. No one's particularly interested in selling. The traders have probably gone to altcoins on Poloniex where there's some real action. They're the ones who drive the price.

And it's easy to forget how many traders might have been burnt by Bitfinex. That was the number one USD exchange. Some might have buggered off completely. Similarly who's to  know how many enthusiasts were lost with the death of Gox? I'm sure it was a large percentage.
13154  Economy / Speculation / Re: Where are you currently sitting on the Bitcoin risk/reward spectrum? on: August 30, 2016, 06:59:56 PM
i think the real deal is when institutional investors will start jumping into bitcoin. however, they will never do so with the current amateurish exchanges. they need a proper professional platform where they can safely deposit multi millions on and start trading like champions. at this point it's more a fantasy than a possible reality at some point.

Itbit and Gemini are good enough for their purposes in principle but that lack of margin is a going to dampen an awful lot of enthusiasm.

I think there's a rather large gulf that needs gapping.

If I was a Wall St psycho the idea of organising a pump to benefit all the little shits who got in early wouldn't turn me on. At the same time they're not going to bother with something as tiny as Bitcoin is. I don't know who's going to provide the ammo to get the big guns to take a realistic look.

Traditionally they themselves are the ones who create the markets and the hype from scratch. The idea of hitching themselves to something that was created by a bunch of maniacs on the internet probably feels uneasy.
13155  Economy / Speculation / Re: Where are you currently sitting on the Bitcoin risk/reward spectrum? on: August 30, 2016, 04:24:44 PM
It will be a long time before any fresh blood come in.

If a proper ETF is approved and arrived within the next couple of years and no one new arrives, I don't know what will bring in some fresh meat. I suppose Bitcoin would have to go round everyone's house and personally cook them a nice meal.
13156  Economy / Speculation / Re: Where are you currently sitting on the Bitcoin risk/reward spectrum? on: August 30, 2016, 04:17:12 PM
Why not? Since the bitcoin market price is very low these days you might be able to make a good profit if you buy now and sell later.

Everyone's got their limit and I assume they reached it. I think quite a few people have some investment fatigue now. It's going to need a wave of fresh blood to really get motoring again and I can't see many signs of them on the horizon at present.
13157  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2016-08-30] Peaks, troughs and hacking: Why would anyone invest in bitcoin? on: August 30, 2016, 04:07:58 PM
Vanilla investors haven't got what it takes. They should let the Real men and women do the heavy lifting until it's ready for their candy asses.
13158  Economy / Speculation / Re: Predict the next Bubble! on: August 30, 2016, 10:04:50 AM
I believe it will come in late October. On that crazy day we will hit $587 for a second or two and there will be rutting in the streets.
13159  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: August 30, 2016, 09:59:46 AM

I disagree , I think scaling (and LN in particular) deserves all the attention it is getting.

One thing I'm curious about, did LN arrive from nowhere and then Core latched onto it? I can't quite remember how it emerged.
13160  Economy / Speculation / Re: Warning on: August 29, 2016, 11:38:44 PM
I agree with you. I have seen quite a lot of posts with 'Fud'. Members who have a high status like Legendary or Hero member can have a good influence in investors ideas with Bitcoin.

Anyone who automatically adds more weight to someone's opinion just because they're a hero or legendary is an idiot. Go on who it is. Would you listen to Satoshi? I'd hope so. Would you listen to me? You should not. The only thing I have over a junior member is that I've been posting shite for longer than them.
