India could not perform in the final match the way India performed in the remaining ten matches except the final. Mohammed Shami, Siraj, Bumrah could not continue the way they bowled in other matches in the final match. After all, India performed very badly in the three departments of fielding, bowling, batting, for which if a team does badly in all three areas, what can be expected except defeat.

No need to blame the pacers (Mohammed Shami, Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj), when the batsmen failed to do their job. A total of 240 was never going to be enough, especially in a flat track such as the one they had at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. A decent total was somewhere between 260 and 280, and a winnable total was more like 280 to 300. Australia won the toss and that proved to be very crucial. Indians were a bit overconfident, and that was evident in the manner which Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill batted.

Yes ,you are right. Indian team performed very bad. In my opinion,if target would be 300+ then it would be very difficult for Australia. In Final match, 300 score is big score to chase. But India can't make handsome score to defend. When Australian 3 wickets fell ,it seemed India will caught Australia  batsmans under 200 score but Travis Head and Labuschagne played very well and they made a good partnership and they snatched the match from Indian players.India is best team but Australia also proved that they are king not in only home ground but in also Indian ground,Ahmadabad. Mohammed Shami didn't performed well in Final match.

Well.. let's be fair. The pitch at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad was a little bit tricky. IMO, 260-280 would have been a decent total on that track. The problem with India was that once they lost the wicket of Shreyas Iyer, Virat Kohli and KL Rahul became over-defensive and were scoring just 2-3 runs per over. And once Kohli got out, Indian batting lost their balance and were losing wickets quite frequently. And for this match, India didn't had any bowling allrounders. They didn't included Ashwin or Shardul in the XI and as a result the Australians were able to wrap up the Indian innings without much effort.

Once again Sanju Samson fans have gone ballistic. They are saying that Sanju is being discriminated because he is South Indian and as a result of his religion. But if that is the case then how come players such as  Washington Sundar have been included in the same squad? Jitesh Sharma and Ishan Kishan are the two keepers in the squad for the 5-match T20I series against Australia. This time I believe that the selectors were quite fair. Jitesh is getting rewarded after many years of good performance in domestic circuit. The same can be said about Shivam Dubey and Mukesh Kumar.

There is a big possibility of a broadcaster dictating the terms but considering the kind of hitjob Dailymail is doing against Indian cricket in general, it sounds like another hitjob against BCCI for no reason. They don't control Broadcaster, infact it's the other way around.

It's not rocket science who is a big gainer if it's 10 team tournament. Indian cricket fills the pocket of the ICC so they are big losers if something goes wrong, similar to 2007. Yes BCCI will also lose some but so are the other boards.

Given the risk involved, I don't think that the BCCI has anything to do with this. Their share from the ICC media rights for 2024-27 (38.5% of $3 billion, i.e around $1 billion) is only a fraction of the IPL media rights for the same period. Given this, I don't think that the BCCI will try to intervene in the tournament format. The risk involved is simply not worth it. I am 100% sure that Disney-Star is behind the new proposal. They have a feeling that they paid far more for the 2024-27 cycle than they should have and now they are trying to find some excuse to cancel the deal.

Is there any truth in this?

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/cricket/article-12771089/India-putting-pressure-ICC-reconsider-decision-expand-2027-World-Cup-14-teams-just-days-ignored-governing-body-change-pitch-semi-final-New-Zealand.html

Daily Mail (a well known tabloid based in United Kingdom that specializes in fake news) has claimed that the BCCI is pressuring ICC to revert to a 10-team setup for the 2027 ODI World Cup, despite the decision previously to expand it to a 14-team tournament. Several questions remain unanswered. How can the BCCI make such a demand? If there is such a demand, then most probably it would have come from Disney-Star, who hold the media rights for this tournament. Anyway, I don't think that the ICC can implement a roll-back now, after going public with details about the 2027 edition.

Ronaldo signed a 2 and a half year contract with Al Nassr Club in Saudi Arabia. I know that Ronaldo came here to promote football in Saudi Arabia. Ronaldo came here to develop not only football but also to promote this sport to the younger generation, young men and women. Indeed, just half a year after Al Nassr recruited superstar Ronaldo, The Saudi Pro League national championship witnessed the entry of players from top European leagues.

I completely agree with your opinion. Saudi Arabian clubs need to immediately recruit good coaches. Only then can their tournament be able to compete with major European games. Their matches have yet to impress the fans.

Ronaldo's initial contract was signed sometime in mid-2022, and I guess it runs till the beginning of 2025? But then a few weeks back there were reports that he was seeking to extend the contract till 2027. Al Nassr is so far happy with his performance (although there was some hesitancy after he struggled in the initial few matches last year). And apart from this, the management in Saudi Professional League are also happy, as they have noticed the sharp increase in global audience as a result of Ronaldo's entry. Now a lot of heavyweights have joined the Saudi Professional League, such as Benzema, Mitrović, Mané and N'Golo Kanté. But then it was Ronaldo who started all of this in 2022.
1327  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: who Want To Bet On 2024 USA elections? on: November 21, 2023, 11:12:26 AM
so it was wrong of the Biden administration to open the borders as they were making more votes for Trump. Trump is just better with his campaign and he has his own Truth social media as well no one can ban him. watching the crowd cheered for him in the APEX UFC arena, made me think he already won.

i think the African Americans are also in favor of Trump already. CNN painted Biden as having higher votes in the polls but when they showed the result, it was actually Trump, it was funny they quickly removed it from the screen.

the election date however is still a year away. if Biden couldn't do something that would make him look good, it's best to replace him from the race.

Gone are the days when African Americans and Hispanics would vote en bloc for the Democrat party. Many of them are now well settled in the United States and the welfare politics of Democrats no longer appeal to them. Large populations have moved to the wealthy suburbs and many are now bothered about high taxes and growing crime rate. Also, I have a feeling that Democrats are taking these two sections for granted. They are failing to realize that they can no longer get blind support from them, by putting up the scare stories about evil Republican white politician trying to segregate the other races. GOP has been made more inclusive, while Democrat Party has remained where they were in the 1980s.

Throughout tournament? He made fastest Indian hundred, and in one games he had good judgement about caught behind where other mates were unsure of, took DRS and he was right. In keeping he was excellent too (except Finale), several great catches.
Agreed. Only brainless haters are negating his valuable contributions throughout the tournament to be honest. Rahul solved the Indian middle order issue perfectly and his keeping skills improved quite a bit too.

I felt sad for him, Rohit and Virat the most when they lost the final. They entertained us all so much throughout the tournament which is applause worthy.

Given the fact that Rahul bats in middle order, his strike rate (90.76) looks awfully low for me. Others who bat in the same position had much higher strike rate when compared to Rahul. Examples are Shreyas Iyer (113.24), Ravindra Jadeja (101.69) and Suryakumar Yadav (100.95). You can claim that there isn't much of a difference between strike rate of 90 and 100-110, but IMO, it can decide the outcome in close matches. I am not saying that Rahul was the reason why India lost the final. All I am saying is that he had the chance to win a trophy for India and he failed in that.

@Sithara007 changes were supposed to come after their poor performance in the World Cup and I’m not surprised they have decided to make drastic changes because it’s a step in the right direction. Furthermore I totally agree with your point because the old timers have failed constantly and maybe this is a risky decision but it’s high time they took decisions like these to improve their overall performances.

Changes are welcome, but they should not destabilize the team too much. They still have some of the best players in the world, such as Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, Fakhar Zaman, Shaheen Afridi and Haris Rauf. The problem IMO is that they don't always play as a team. They need to devise a way to convert individual performances to team victories. And something that I have always complained about - the absence of a quality spinner. I don't know why it is so hard for the PCB to find a quality spinner. Are there no good spinners in Pakistani domestic cricket?

AFC qualifiers look interesting. I was actually disappointed with results from Group B, where North Korea went down by a margin of 0-1 against Syria. They are still in contention, but need to win most of the remaining matches now (other two teams in the group are Japan and Myanmar). BTW, India won their first match in Group A, against a strong Kuwait. It will be great news if India can qualify for the main tournament, as they haven't yet featured in the FIFA World Cup. In Group C, China also won their first match (against Thailand), while Indonesia suffered a 1-5 defeat against Iraq.

This time a total of 8.5 teams are going to qualify from the AFC.  Grin

The Ukraine-Italy match was a very critical match and Ukraine could not get 3 points from this match. Although Italy was effective throughout the match, the match ended 0-0. Ukraine will now try to qualify from the Playoffs, but their efforts certainly deserve praise. I think this score is very good in this group.

It's not going to be easy to qualify through the playoffs. And also, they will be facing very tough teams during the playoff round. But I agree with your take on Ukraine. Despite all the negatives related to war and politics, they put up a very strong showing during the qualifiers. Also, don't forget the fact that they had missed qualifying for the 2022 FIFA World Cup by a whisker (by losing to Wales in the last playoff match). I agree that they deserve a spot in the Euro Cup of 2024. But they need to win the next 2-3 playoff matches in order to achieve that.

Hong Kong women managed to win the Women's T20 Quadrangular Series, which was hosted by Hong Kong Cricket. Nothing surprising there, apart from the poor performance by Japan women. Japan used to be one of the strongest teams in the Asia-Pacific region, but this time they finished last after losing the 3rd place match to Nepal women. Tanzania women finished at the 2nd place, and this is just another proof for the gigantic strides made by cricket recently in the African continent (both among the men as well as the women).

Australia has achieved great things in world cricket this year. They won the Test Championship trophy by defeating India in the final of the World Test Championship followed by The Ashes series win against England and lastly they won the ODI World Cup for the sixth time. Pat Cummins led well It must be said that it is easier for a captain to lead when other players in his team are performing well. Australia has always been a balanced team and everyone who plays for this team plays for the team so it is very easy for the captain to lead. Pat Cummins is lucky to have captained Australia because this team has all types of players and all types of players are world class which is why Pat Cummins has led well as captain.

One thing that I like about Australia is that they are thoroughly professional. They never give any importance for personal milestones. I have seen Australia declaring in test matches, even when their batsmen are in 90s or 190s. I have never seen this for any other team, including India. And they only put merit as a criteria for selection. This is different from teams like South Africa and West Indies, who have race-based selection policies. And they never include players who are not fit in the playing XI. No matter how important that player is, if he is not 100% fit or in form, someone else will replace him.

Lately, I have been news and commentators talking about the perceived advantage Mr Trump seems to be keeping with comes to the Latino and Spanish speaker voter in the United States. It is ironic the support by auch Community has switched in favor or Trump, keeping in mind all the things he has previously said about Mexicans and latin American people in general.

First of all, Trump hasn't said anything negative about people of Hispanic origin in general. He has gone on a tirade against the illegal aliens and the liberal media twisted these statements to claim that he was lambasting Hispanics in general. It doesn't always work and as a result a large fraction of the Hispanic base has moved closer to the GOP. Also, Hispanics tend to me more religious, when compared to whites. And this is also one of the reasons why they are voting for GOP nowadays. Abortion is a big issue, at least for this community.

Glad to see that I can post about the ICC World Test Championship once more. The world cup fever has died down, and the fact that India once again lost at the last stage after performing so well in group stage will definitely help in shifting attention away from the limited overs format. The IPL is at least 3-4 months away, and till now the attention will be on test cricket. In a week's time, the WTC is going to resume with the match between Bangladesh and New Zealand. The first match will be played at Sylhet. New Zealand is going to struggle, as they have done against Bangladesh while playing under sub-continental conditions.

Replacing Babar was not an issue but replacing him with players that are not performing or not even part of squad is a concern. Normally with new captains  we have hopes but not with Shaheen and Shan.

Wahab Riaz is currently the care taker minister of sports in province Punjab and along that he is given the role of Chief selector of Pakistan cricket team. He will also play in Peshawar Zalmi under captaincy of Babar Azam. Normally such posts are given to some experienced plays or those who have some administrative experience but Wahab Riaz is too young for this role. Don't know what links Wahab Riaz has in Pakistan to get such key posts without having a good cricket career.

In case of Shaheen Shah Afridi, at least he will be a part of the playing XI for sure. So there is nothing wrong in giving in a chance at the top post. At least we can be sure that he will not end up like Temba Bavuma of South Africa (who will not be even in the playing XI if he is not the captain). And now coming to Wahab Riaz, what is the issue if he gets a good role in administration? Younger people also deserves a chance, right? The old school guys have failed PCB so far. So there is nothing wrong in giving a few chances to people like Wahab IMO.

Yeah, at the end of the day, the main driver of decisions from FIFA will always be money maximizing.

I don't think it necessarily is a bad thing though, for example having now more substitutions and extra time will probably make games more interesting to watch, even though there will be less unique players as you can move them around more often, like in Basketball for example.

Is it something bad? And I don't think that FIFA's main intention is to maximize the revenue. If that was the case, then they can restrict the competition to the top 10-12 teams around the world and make them play against each other 10 times or so. That is not happening. They have expanded the tournament to give adequate representation to all the regions and at the same time they have decided against conducting the tournament once every 2 years. FIFA at this point is going for the optimal balance between revenue generation and growth of the game.

That's not what I meant. That Ronaldo himself is in great form and not going to retire just yet is understandable. But the question is, will players move to the SPL with the same fervour if Ronaldo isn't there? It's essentially a question of whether Ronaldo's move has had an impact in the long term

First of all, Ronaldo has already asked Al Nassr for a contract extension. And even in case he is not there as an active player, I don't think that it will have much of an impact on the Saudi Professional League. When Ronaldo first announced his move to SPL back in 2022, this league was relatively unknown to those outside the middle east. But now that is not the case. Dozens of star players have joined the league, including Aleksandar Mitrović, Yassine Bounou, Sergej Milinković-Savić, Sadio Mané, Marcelo Brozović, Édouard Mendy, Franck Kessié and Karim Benzema. Now SPL doesn't need to advertise itself and on its own it is one of the top football leagues in the world.

First one didn't matter much anyway, because Warner was out soon after. There were other two when spinners were bowling both from Travis Head, one from Kuldeep in his 22th over and another from Jadeja in 24th, you can watch highlights too.

Regarding KL Rahul, he seemed under pressure, during batting and during keeping as well.

KL Rahul's form was one of the negatives for the Indian team throughout the tournament. I am not sure when Rishabh Pant will be back in action. As soon as Rishabh is able to join the team, Rahul needs to be kicked out. In case Rishabh's recovery takes another 5-6 months, then the Indian selectors need to look at other options. And Sanju Samson is not a suitable replacement. A lot of chances were given to him, and he wasted each of them. KS Bharat or Anuj Rawat maybe a better replacement for KL Rahul at this point, in my opinion.

Hong Kong Women Cricket team is becoming very strong. They played very well in the whole tournament. Not only women but also Hong Kong man team is also playing very well.In the T20  World Cup Qualifiers ٫Nepal man team qualifed. And women team is also hard working, Natasha Miles is good ,she is working on herself. Hong cricket is being improving. In last match , Maryam Bibi played very well. She remained not out at the end of match and she made excellent 17 runs in just 19 balls . From Tanzania Women batting side ,Pascal played very well. She  performed brilliant inning and made 42 runs in just 49 balls . But these runs didn't work for her team and team lose the match.

I was disappointed with the fact that two of the Asian teams with native players (Nepal and Japan) failed to make it to the finals. On the other hand, final was played between Hong Kong women and Tanzania women. Tanzania was almost 100% native, while a majority of the Hong Kong players were non-citizens. All these teams never get a chance to play in major ICC tournaments. Therefore these sort of tournaments such as the Women's T20 Quadrangular Series are the only place where they get a chance to showcase their skills.
