1322  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger Recovery - Send your (encrypted) recovery phrase to 3rd parties entities on: May 18, 2023, 02:13:40 PM
Here is the problem. Ledger is one of many hardware wallet brands that use a secure element chip whose sole job was to keep your seed and private keys offline. Meaning, it was supposed to be impossible that sensitive information leaves the chip and gets transmitted online. Turns out, that's not the case at all. The Ledger Nano X secure element can change its behavior after a software update, allowing you to "voluntarily" share your keys online with 3rd-parties. Soon, the same thing will be possible for the Nano S Plus. Apparently, only the old Nano S can't implement this feature.

In theory, unless you update to the newest firmware that unlocks seed-share and approve it physically by pressing the buttons on your Nano, the feature won't work. That's just the theory. It's again a matter of trust. We have trusted Ledger to protect our keys and we trusted them when they said nothing can ever leave the safe enclosure of the secure element. That trust is now gone because the most valuable data can, in fact, leave the SE.

Now you have to make up your own mind. Are you going to trust that what they have said about Ledger Recover is accurate, and that they need your approval to share your seed? Or, can they just do it with or without your consent? They have already told us that data was always obtainable from secure element chips, they just didn't activate that feature before.

You should not trust the usage of the secure chip unless all of the code and firmware is open-source and signed, so that you can verify all of the interactions with the secure chip.

Yes i agree, i dont know what kind of ARM chip Ledger use in their product, but we heard a lot of times after so many years about "back doors" on Intel and AMD chipsets, some of them put in porpuose and others dont. So like Notatether say until you dont have the whole information you never know.

I also read some Russians have made fakes Ledger and they sell on the russian market like original ones. Clearly this its other kind of leak and problem but its interesting to know. And yes they can acces and stole your coins.
1323  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger Recovery - Send your (encrypted) recovery phrase to 3rd parties entities on: May 17, 2023, 11:46:55 PM
I think Ledger want to be the first oficial """"""aproved hardware wallet"""""" by the goverments/stablishment, i cant find another idea about what are they doing.

Because this seem very very similar at how it works the payment system on shops online when you paid with credit/debit card. You never give to the local where you are buying you credit card info, you send that information to a third party who say its OK or not and make the payment in conection with the bank and the commerce.

So i think this its very similar, they are making some lobby and making some new units of business with someone to be the first and only """"LEGAL"""" hardware wallet.
Trusted by some XXX third party companie who the goverment aproves and they are all friend between them.

And yes before you say, they sell their soul to the devil.

What a perfect match made it by Manchester City!, i dont believe they play so good and with guts, i was thinking after Courtois saves against Haaland in the first half they are gonna lose it, but NO they keep pushing and destroy Real Madrid , a fantastic performance by the whole squad.

I also think maybe we can see some serious renovation and end of a era in Real Madrid, maybe Kross or Modric can go out after this season.

Ey nice update.

One thing i noted in this alst photo was the tone in the cybertrucks, in the central one its opaque and in the two behind its more shiny. I like more the shiny one. You can choose between this two or its only one option?.
1327  Economy / Economics / Re: How do banks generate income? on: May 17, 2023, 06:35:52 PM
Banking is a broken system all over the world. They don't have their own money. They take people's money and then lend them out to others. Fractional banking system! And when everyone tries to withdraw all their money in mass, they go bankrupt. And then the inflation happens. Many knows this, many doesn't. Yet we have to use it for some situations because we are in need of it. They are wealthy to a certain point, but why do they go bankrupt? This is the reason, and it's harmful for the economy. Would people stop using it? No because we are still in need of it. But the usage will become less overtime.
That is the actual reason why they are afraid of cryptocurrencies and find it a threat because they know how vulnerable the banking or traditional financial institutions have become lately with banks going bankrupt all around the world, even after earning so much money, they can't sustain their business and go bankrupt in no time.

They do have their own money, but they don't use their own money for bank transactions, loans, or anything else, they simply use the money of the people using the bank to keep their money safe and gain profit from that.

And what part of the cryptocurrencies stop them of still making it?

Man, i think a lot of you need some basic economic class, we LIVE in CAPITALIST system, and that system requires ever debt and other things to keep moving.

If you have a industrie and needs to change your equipment, you go to the financial system and take a loan, with that money the system put that money in work, in traditional one, with normal interest rate, assets , bonds ,etc, in crypto they can put in a pool who give them X %, so what its the diference?. Stop dreaming.

Or we dont have here in the forum a lending section?.

1330  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: On Ordinals: Where do you stand? on: May 17, 2023, 12:36:02 PM
yep over the years more people have stopped using bitcoin and moved to other networks due to silly idea's like "just pay more"

bitcoin was invented to be a payment system for the unbanked. not a payment system just for the rich
there are more people in the world whos hourly wage is less than a bitcoin fee.

if you think a payment system should cost more than an hours wage to use. thats a failure of economics

Fully agree with this and i think BEFORE any start a conversation have to be in concordance with that statement.

I really feel some guys are losing the north of BTC and his main purpose.

I think a lot dont concive the idea of use other blockchains for other purpose, X blockchain for art, Y blockchain for smartcontracts, W blockchain for tracking ,etc, etc.

And this doesnt have any bad, WHY everything has to be in the BTC blockchain when it wasnt designed for that? Why a few guys confuse BTC dominacy with Blockchain dominacy?

So again bitcoin was invented to be a payment system for the unbanked NOT for other things and not matter if that other things have value or not.

1332  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: FIFA World Cup 2026 :Canada/Mexico/United States: Discussion Thread on: May 17, 2023, 01:40:08 AM
I dont know why missing 4 years for the world cup to take place are you talking.

Think this, between Rusia 2018 and Qatar 2022 we had a global pandemic and a war in the edge to become WW3, so i dont make so many plans.... long ride ahead cowboys.

But then again, not sure if a lot of people would actually go to the US, as many governments are warning against it

In fact, despite all the problems, I believe that in terms of security, Qatar is much better than the United States, Canada and Mexico.
But even so, I believe that this is the least of the problems that could prevent tourists from going to watch the 2026 World Cup games in person.

The main factors that could make this difficult, I still believe are:
  • The money: Even believing that it will be cheaper than the Qatar Cup, this is still a privilege for few people in the world;
  • The visa: Unlike Qatar, it is much more complicated to get a visa to enter the USA, which will host most of the games, not to mention that citizens of certain countries are prohibited from entering there... they cannot even apply of the process.
  • The culture of the country: The United States has a bad reputation in many countries or religions, something that will certainly prevent much of the world from visiting them.

All you say its true but i think they are gonna soften the VISA thing or maybe they make some special VISA for WC. But i repeat we are gonna wait to see how its the global world.

Stake 93% to reach platinum 3 i need strategy

Please share good dice or other strategies conditions

I dont understand your post but i deduce, you are running out of money and you are very close to reach that level, only 7% remaining, so you want to learn how or what its the best way to reach taht without ending up losing the remaining money no?.

Well i dont know exactly because i never chase that kind of lvel/status, but maybe playing some "secure" sportsbet or playing low volatility games.
1334  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: May 16, 2023, 10:15:47 PM
How about the Ledger issue?

Nobody its gonna talk about it?

why?

because everybody should know by now that ledger is a crap company without any ethos.

Let's see:

- closed source secure element design  ...check

- peddling to shitcoiners with as much shitcoin apps as possible ...check

- leaked personal data of 270k customers ...check

- encourages their users to give up their seed phrase to some 3rd party companies ...check

- implementing KYC  ...check

...

How much more do people need to turn away from them?

let ledger die already...

Yes but the problem with that its..... the harm they can do to BTC price and trust, no mater what we know and what you said above its completly true, the problem its the mayority of normal people or people who are not in BTC are gonna be more and more afraid if this kind of shit still happening.

And you know we are only a few against a full army of press and paid opinions.

The amount of biased opinnions here its beyond think.

The only one who have a good point and its in the correct path its @Cuenta Alternativa.

For not quote a ton of message im going to say a few things to clarify some missconceptions.

First of all, in economy we have TWO ways for make MONEY.

Primary money generation: This its in simple way the money who the goverment prints from mint.

Secondary generation of money : THIS its the money who """""generate""""" the private banks, in form of loans, BUT BUT BUT this money its ALWAYS controled by the CENTRAL BANK OF CTHE COUNTRY AND THIS ITS  A PERCENTAGE THEY KNOW HOW MUCH THEY CAN MAKE OF THIS MONEY.

Obviusly into this we have a ton of details maths etc. Im trying to make it simple.

About the second way of generation of money aka fraccional reserve, and also for the guy who put the example of guy A put and guy B take a loan and so on, its ok BUT again that its not exactly so free to do, and here im really ashtonishing in seeing some people who talks about BTC freedom and you forget the MAIN actor in economy and in this discussion?

ITs not privates banks, its CENTRAL BANKS and the GOVERMENT, man the privates banks dot give you the interest they want or the money they want, they onle took and give the money at X interest FIXED by the FED/CENTRAL BANK/GOVERMENT. And to give loans to people they need to have bank laces deposited into the CENTRAL BANK, to demostrate they are loaning the correct % of the second generation of money.

And YES in that way the private bank EARN money from them, if the FIXED interest put by the central bank its for example 10% they put the money on that rate at work and offer to his clientes a % below 10 percentage, it can be 9/8 etc.

The ammounts are enormous for that tha 1/2 % can be Billions trillions etc.

This its basic explanation.

OT: Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway sells entire stake in TSMC
https://www.cnn.com/2023/05/16/investing/berkshire-hathaway-taiwan-tsmc-stock-exit-hnk-intl/index.html

What do insiders like Warren Buffett know? China war with U.S. over Taiwan coming soon?

Black swan event in Taiwan?

Very good information, i dont know what to think, both scenarios are possible the war, and also the fact who pointed xhomers above, i have listen they are not being so good in term of competitivitie against the other marks of the sector.

Thinking like WB made regulary maybe he doesnt like the "volatility" the sector its having in the last year, im talking about the problems with rare earths and the skyrocketing prices in chips and inthe materials for them.
1338  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: On Ordinals: Where do you stand? on: May 16, 2023, 02:30:51 PM
Frankly, I don't see any reasoning in your post, just insults, some general phrases, vague points and baseless statements. Well, I couldn't expect more from a crazy ordinals fanboi.

I'll make more of an effort to remain civil.  It's just frustrating that only a few people seem to be looking at the big picture.

It's a question of priorities.  The lesser of two evils, if you will.

If you sacrifice what makes Bitcoin matter in order to make it faster or cheaper, you're making it worse.

My list of priorities goes something like this:

1.  Open-source
2.  Permissionless / Censorship-resistance / "freedom" / etc.
3.  Secure / Strong hash rate / alignment of incentives to secure the chain
4.  Decentralisation / sufficient node count
5.  Fixed supply / 21 million BTC / predictable emission
6.  Reasonable privacy / Pseudonymous
7.  Efficient / Fast / Cheap

The truth is that I think you only look at the big picture that suits you and not the big picture of the world and of BTC.
What is the point of defending everything you wrote if in practice it is useless?
What is the point of keeping intact the theory and the scale of ranks that you postulated if in practice it cannot be used for what it was created for?
What is the point for poor people who were promised financial freedom in transactions and it turns out that now if they want to buy a kilo of bread in El Salvador they pay 1 dollar for bread and 50 in BTC transaction fees?
Just because, because a person who owns 5779241534 BTC is irrelevant to him that the fee is momentarily high?
The problem is that for many people they can't wait for it to go down, so a solution must be found for this, and not just always wait for it to happen.

Look at the case of serveria, why he have to cancel a sell because of this problem? And where its the solutions of BTC for him? If you want to see more people adopt more the BTC you cant have this kind of problem.

Or at least admit the BTC its only a reserve of value and not a currency (here i dont know what its you posture about it).
