SL really fell after a great start, from 125/1, got all out for 209, I didn't get to watch the match today so I am not sure AUS did something great or the Rain helped them a bit but I see the second inning has been delayed too and I saw its more like a storm with some heavy winds into the ground. If the match resumes then surely Aus will have the edge if DL system come into play.

After Srilanka lost to Pakistan in a game where everyone felt it was impossible to chase a big total. It was evident how low the Srilankan cricket has gone, they are in such bad shape that a small team like the Netherlands can beat them on the 21st of October. Their batting lineup, their team management, and their bowling lineup are in shambles. In an important game, they changed their captain, Medis is captaining the team today. It is evident they are not taking this tournament seriously, next ICC  World Cup we might not see them play, similar to the current situation of West Indies.

After Getting Defeated by Afghanistan

England be like!

This humiliating defeat and one of the biggest upsets will go into the history books of cricket situated in Lords England. I hope they, capture the image of the Afghanistan wining celebration and paste it on the wall of fame. This is for me one of the biggest upsets in the history of cricket! Afghanistan you make the cricket world proud after the first historic win against a team that came up with a sport called cricket. What an amazing day it is for the Afghanistan team, they would be celebrating it more than their religious festival.

Bloody hell! Can we have the first big upset of this World Cup tonight?

Traditionally, in the World Cup England team has a habit of losing at least one game against the weaker side so it's only fair if it comes against Afghanistan Lips sealed. After all in the last edition, Morgan thrashed the Afghans brutally so these guys do need closure.  Undecided

Let's see if the Afghans can handle the pressure, their skipper is quite bad with the tactics so big question mark.

After the end of 31st over now I can say that yes the first big upset is going to happen today. Brooks is still on the field but the required run rate is going up after every ball. England wanted to copy the strategy that India had put in place yesterday, they never thought that Afghanis would bowl way above average. Not much to say as it proves that you need to do your homework before copying someone else strategy. They only wanted to accomplish a good run rate in order to rank better on the point table. At the moment it is possible that they might go below the current standing on the point table if they lose the match.

Afghanistan will lose today and lose badly. I watched Afghanistan's performance against Bangladesh. The top order played very well. I saw two wickets of Afghanistan till 110 runs. But in the end they gave Bangladesh a target of only 157 runs. And Bangladesh won the match easily. In today's match too, Afghanistan lost their first wicket by 114 runs. And for 123 runs, the team lost three of their top-order batsmen. Rahmanullah Gurbaz was run out like a fool. He was able to collect 80 runs from 57 balls. If Gurbaz stayed at the crease, Afghanistan had the potential for a big score. Now Afghanistan's batsmen are under pressure. Now their batting will be slower.
They are a new team who are playing a 50 over ICC tournament for the first time. As a T20 team they are very competitive whereas as an ODI team they are very new. They have nothing to lose if they don't win today. The amount of experience they are gaining from playing against the top teams in the 50 over match will help them.

Today they started well but have now lost their momentum. They are cointinuosly losing wickets, they have now lost 4 wickets and have 153 runs on the scoreboard. I believe they would be able to cross the 200 runs barrier. That would be far better than what Pakistan has scored yesterday.

Wow, just wow Pakistan! That's some epic collapse, even from their own standards and it happened when the middle order was in a decent form.

Full marks to the Indian bowlers, they really delivered their best on this road. It clearly didn't look bowler friendly pitch in the first 30 overs and the top 4 batters were looking comfortable. Pak now should pray for at least 3 batting collapses from Indians (Top-Middle-Lower).

100 done, 92 more to chase for India with 8 wickets in hand. Rohit's aggressive approach helped him to get another half-century in the World Cup. The way he is going on I feel he might get another century. Shreyas Iyer doing the right thing by rotating the strike and giving more opportunity to the Indian captain. This game might get over before the end of the 20th over. Pakistan bowlers are in a bit of a puzzle as they are not sure what kind of bowl can stop the Indian captain. Frankly, those on the stadium are enjoying the innings of Rohit Sharma.
1327  Local / India / Re: ICC World Cup 2023 - India discussion on: October 14, 2023, 12:23:00 PM
On a flat pitch, Indian bowlers have proven that they can take wickets. I had a notion that Pakistan batters would struggle against the Indian bowling attack. Now it is happening they have lost 7 wickets, which means their middle order has been wiped out. The bowlers are now on the pitch, run rate has gone down considerably. There wont be a big target to chase for the Indian batters for sure.

It was a complete disaster for Pakistan today. When Babar and Rizwan were batting the projected score was 300 runs. They both got out and the whole batting order crumbled. I remember after they lost to India in the Asia Cup, Vikrant Gupta did pointed out this issue. If Babar and Rizwan don't bat Pakistani batters fail to deliver what they are expected. Today we again saw the same problem.
1328  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ODI cricket and general cricketing discussion [self - mod] on: October 14, 2023, 12:18:50 PM
The game is very much over for Pakistan. They were nicely going till 30th over when skipper Babar got out. Good captaincy from Rohit Sharma, he introduced Muhammad Siraj when Babar and Rizwan were looking dangerous. Siraj did the job for skipper by breaking the partnership and after that no Pakistani batsmen bothered to score runs. Now the last pair is on the crease and it seems difficult that Pakistan will be able to complete there 50 overs quota.
It looks like they gave away the match after Rizwan's dismissal. No doubt Indian bowlers were bowling the correct line and length. Still, I felt that Pakistani batters gave up the hope of scoring runs. There were lose shots and lose approach by them. 192 runs is not a target that India expected from Pakistan. If the Pakistani bowling can bowl well and keep up the pressure on the Indian batters then there is hope for them.
1329  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ICC WORLD CUP 2023 ACTUAL DISCUSSION THREAD! on: October 14, 2023, 11:12:19 AM
What just happened? 5 wickets gone for 166 runs. Babar and Rizwan were playing good. As soon as Babar got bowled by Shiraj, Pakistan started losing wickets. First it was Saud followed by Iftikar. Rizwan is still standing on the non stiker end, not much batting left for Pakistan. Again they proved that the team depends on the batting of Babar & Rizwan. I still feel Rizwan can take Pakistan out of this bad situation. If not then Pakistan won't be able to win this big game.

Edit: Rizwan gone, bowled by Bhumrah. I have now zero hopes for Pakistan. I doubt they will be able to get 250 runs on the scoreboard.

Another game which is one sided in the World Cup. I mean why we are not able to witness an upset. The match between England and New Zealand was a big upset for England. After that game we haven't witnessed anything similar. As far as I understand there are 4 teams that are dominating this World Cup. You can see thier names on the point table.

Bangladesh did well in getting back into the game. They were once 4 down when they had 81 runs on the scoreboard. As expected Shakib and Rahim were able to form a partnership. Looking into the target, I think it won't be an easy for Bangladesh to defend it.
1332  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ICC WORLD CUP 2023 ACTUAL DISCUSSION THREAD! on: October 13, 2023, 10:03:23 AM
New Zealand is having then upper hand as of now, as Bangladesh has lost 3 wickets. The ever-reliable Trent Boult and Lockie Ferguson have picked up the wickets. Litton Das, Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Tanzid Hasan are back in pavilion, while Shakib Al Hasan and Najmul Hossain Shanto are at the crease for Bangladesh. The Kiwi pace trio (Boult-Henry-Ferguson) have so far done a decent job. Now the focus shift to their spinners (Mitchell Santner-Glenn Phillips-Rachin Ravindra). They didn't picked Ish Sodhi for this match, which I believe may turn out to be the correct decision.
4 wickets down for 81 runs, the current run rate is hovering around 4.5. Very bad start by Bangladeshi team against the New Zealand pace attack. This pitch is helpful for pacers than spinners. I feel the a target of 250 or more is defendable on this pitch. Bangladesh need a big partnership, Shakib and Rahim needs to stop any more wickets from falling. One big partnership and this game will become balanced. For now I believe New Zealand is in control of this game.
1333  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ICC WORLD CUP 2023 ACTUAL DISCUSSION THREAD! on: October 12, 2023, 02:00:32 PM
Australia currently 50/3 needing 262 runs from 241 balls. They need a run rate of 6.55 per over, it’s definitely achievable but isn’t going to be easy.

South Africa set them a sizeable target with their innings of 311/7. This is going to be an exciting watch, I urge you to tune in if you can.

It is now 4 wickets that have been lost due to good bowling by the South African bowlers. I do not think they would be able to come back with the current run rate, which is below 5. They are trying to chase a target which according to me is scary to chase on that pitch. This game between these two teams is slowly sliding towards the South African side. Not only bowling, South Africans have been above average on fielding and stopping those boundaries, but they seem to become a much better team as this World Cup progresses.

Australia need a good partnership if they want to win. They are facing an excellent bowling attack, which is only looking to find wickets. The Australian side as per my understanding is trying to play a 20-over match. They might have forgotten that this is a 50-over match Grin. After Maxwell Australia wont be able to chase the target South Africa game them.

Good News for India

Our upcoming Kohli and Rohit Sharma replacement Shubhman Gill has been discharged from the hospital. Indian media reported that he has already reached Ahmedabad, I won't share the link here as you can do a simple Google search. I cannot confirm whether he will be playing in the upcoming important game against Pakistan. However, it is not possible to play a game in just a couple of days after fighting dengue as he was hospitalized due to a low platelet count.

Indian team has performed well in his absence in the last two matches. I think they will allow him to rest as India is in a better position on the point table after they won against Afghanistan. India is ranked second on the point table with a NRR of +1.5 below New Zealand as this team has multiple options. I still fell India should think about Ishan Kishan as he does not look comfortable while opening the innings.

Any score above 300 runs was not what Australia planned to get as a target. This game is slowly sliding away from the hands of the Australian team, which has already lost 2 early wickets. Both Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne are out of form, they won't be able to last long. South Africans suddenly barged into this World Cup as hot favorites. Earlier England, Australia, India, and Pakistan were favorites, as of now that combination has changed. As per my understanding, South Africa will replace Australia in that prediction. It might be one of the worst performances from the Australian team they as in the ACB messed up the player's selection to the next level.

The wicket of Aiden Markram and Heinrich Klaasen at the death overs cost at least 30 runs. Kudos to Cummins-Hazlewood duo for picking these 2, they were about to change gears and things could have been ugly for the Aussies.

Not sure if 310-320 is defendable unless Keshav and Shamsi click with the ball for Protea. 2 tons for De Kock in 2 matches, bummer he's taking retirement from ODI after this WC.

I am not sure whether a total of 320 can be defended by South Africa. Remember that they conceded 326 against Sri Lanka. Against an Australian lineup that includes quality players such as David Warner, Mitchell Marsh, Steven Smith and Marnus Labuschagne, this is clearly not going to be enough. And also, Jansen and Rabada were very expensive during the last match, and this time also I am not expecting much from them. When Aiden Markram got out, they were 263/4 after 43 overs. They should have made somewhere around 340.

I believe this target won't be easy for the Australian batters to chase. Unless Maxwell goes into the demolition mode, most of their batter is out of form. The pitch earlier in the game was not looking good for batting. It has now eased down a little bit still won't be an easy chase for the Australian batters. Someone has to bat exceptionally better if they want to win against South Africa. Keshav Maharaj, Kagiso Rabada and Lungi Ngidi are the ones who can become an issue for the Australian batters.

Still not very hopeful about Shubman Gill. In case he just got discharged from the hospital, I am not expecting him to play actively for the next 1-2 weeks. Hopefully he will be ready for the last 3-4 group matches, and also for the knockout phase (in case India manages to qualify for the semi-finals). At this point, Indians won't be much bothered. Rohit and Ishan did a great job during the last match and the middle order is also looking quite good. I am more concerned about who will be dropped, once Shubman is back to the squad.

He has reached Ahmedabad yesterday, uncertainty of him playing still prevails. Getting dengu then getting admitted to the hospital would have made him weak. I do feel he might be rested in the match against Pakistan. India is doing good without him. Yesterday Rohit Sharma single handedly took India to a victory, he is in good form. Ishan is struggling with his form, he was visibly not looking good for quite sometime. He did get out while playing a lose shot.

Good News for India

Shubman Gill has been discharged after being in the hospital at Chennai's Kaveri Hospital. He got hospitalized due to a drop in platelet count as he was suffering from dengue. Due to his sickness, he missed the first two matches of the World Cup against Australia and Afghanistan. As per the news, he is all set to join the team and play against Pakistan on Saturday.

Australia struggling against South Africa's good batting, de Knock has taken the responsibility of scoring runs. He has already scored 81 runs in just 76 balls, the way he is going he would easily get another 100. Rassie van der Dussen is rotating the strike which is a good thing to do and hitting the odd boundaries. These two have the ability to up the South African run rate in no time.
1339  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ICC WORLD CUP 2023 ACTUAL DISCUSSION THREAD! on: October 11, 2023, 12:57:27 PM
This is a respectable total for Afghanistan, considering at one point they were 68/3. Overall, fine recovery. Although the way their partnership was building, they could have added 10-15 extra runs.

Indian bowlers were on the money from the start but Siraj was way off-color today and gave up 76 runs. When he leaks, he becomes way too generous. The dude needs to soak up pressure when things are not easy, he's not a rookie player anymore.

Considering that they have played only a few matches in the World Cup, it is a good total. They will be overwhelmed with their achievement considering they were 3 down with only 63 runs on the scoreboard. It now depends on how efficiently they can bowl on a pitch that favors batters. The Indian team has an excellent batting order and on a pitch like this one it should not create any issue for them. The best scene of today was when Naveen came to bat and Virat tried to run him out, that got wasted because of Rahul. The next event would be when Kohli comes to bat and he is bowling to him, it would make this match more exciting.
1340  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ODI cricket and general cricketing discussion [self - mod] on: October 11, 2023, 11:48:58 AM
A team batting second is also under a lot of pressure if they get a big target, and their batsmen often get out early under that pressure. Afghanistan team may have decided to bat first for this reason, because India batting side is very strong which could give Afghanistan a big target. AFG lost three wickets for 63 runs, but since then Hashmatullah and Azmatullah  have been making a good partnership.

The score has been taken to 135 runs in 28 overs and the partnership between the two continues. However, This partnership can play a big role in making the AFG team score a big one,if this partnership adds another  runs. If AFG manage to set a good target it will be a good match, but I think a target of 300 runs will not be too difficult for India.

Afghanistan has a good bowling attack, they have the ability to take early wickets. The decision to bat first depends a lot on whether the pitch is batter-friendly or not for now it is looking batter-friendly. Afghanistan has now lost only 4 wickets and scored 214 runs in the 41st over. Hashmat has got 72 runs in 81 balls and there is a good chance that he might get his first century in the World Cup. Shiraz has been costly today, I feel he should have been rested and Shami should have been given a chance. In pitches like this one, Shami is always good as he has the ability to skid the ball suddenly.
