1323  Local / Skandinavisk / Re: [ANNOUNCE] BitcoinNordic: Instant Bitcoins with Scandinavian credit cards on: May 30, 2012, 01:52:25 PM
Yesterday' news:

Quote from: BitcoinNordic
From tomorrow card purchases will be discontinued indefinitely. We hope to reenable the service soon. Until tomorrow, limit per card is 5000.

Reddit discussion: http://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/uaicw/bitcoinnordic_discontinues_credit_card_purchases/

Quote from: haakon
In an email, they write:

The discontinuation of credit card payments is due to pressure from the VISA and MasterCard organizations. They deem that dealing in a digital means of exchange such as Bitcoin is too risky.
While VISA and MasterCard are some of the most widely used cards, we will be working to accept other cards on Bitcoin Nordic. This newsletter will keep you updated.

Quote from: fimp
We don't have a quote from VISA / MasterCard themselves as we did not deal with them directly.
We accepted their cards through eWire who sent the following message to us this morning:

"We have been contacted by our payment provider regarding Bitcoin Nordic.
We have been required by VISA and Mastercard to shut down your payment solution because of a large risk of chargebacks in this business.
I am therefore forced to shut down your cooperation with Ewire.
It is very unfortunate that this duopoly can force their requirements in this manner but we need to consider our entire business
when we get a message like this because we can lose our payment service if we do not comply."

In the past two months since we started accepting card payments we have processed approximately $50,000 in credit card payments.
To my knowledge there has only been one case of chargeback for about $200 and we covered this case out of our own pockets.
Actually, this case didn't even involve a VISA or MasterCard but a DanKort.

Your email would be the evidence, but the 0 point is reserved for unknown account holders, like Blitz.
As long as we sent anything to your email, we know that you're a customer and other points criteria should apply.

Also Mt. Gox codes can prove your account ownership as well. We have all deposit records since February.

Makes sense. Has anyone using gmail found bitcoinica emails marked as spam?
Didn't notice I was "missing" emails before today. Still a little worried. Undecided
1325  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [Emergency ANN] Bitcoinica site is taken offline for security investigation on: May 25, 2012, 01:18:39 PM
i have the emails. check your spam folder.

Thanks for the suggestion. No luck, unfortunately.

Last deposit to Bitcoinica was 32 days prior to its death.
(Spam-tagged messages would have been flushed.)

I have been a Bitcoinica customer for the last several months.

I made a number of deposits to Bitcoinica from Mt.Gox, using Mt.Gox codes.
I executed dozens of trades, won some, lost some, made no withdrawals.
I never had any issues with the service so I made no complaints and sent no emails to support.

I don't seem to have received  _any_ emails from *@bitcoinica.com prior to the claims form.
I had a smooth, clean, entirely trouble free relationship with bitcoinica to the day of the last hack.

Was transactional emails turned off by default? (I don't like frequent, automated emails cluttering my inbox.)
Am I looking at the wrong email address? Or am I missing something?
1327  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: <3 kronos.io love thread on: May 24, 2012, 12:34:19 AM
Now the interface changed. Looks like its possible to log in now, but I didnt receive any verification code yet (registered with the old interface). Did anyone manage to login?

Invite code, anyone?  Smiley

I just want to point out that this doen't make any sense.
During this transition period we were hesitant to conflict with Zhou's statements, however we have decided that a clarification is necessary.

Much of the information available is misleading.  We will be issuing a statement later today to clarify the situation.

Is this your clarification? Sad

We had written a long post however we are prevented from posting it due to limitations.
We are very sorry. We are trying to resolve this matter however we are limited in our capacities.

It's not very claryifying, to say the least.
1329  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [Emergency ANN] Bitcoinica site is taken offline for security investigation on: May 22, 2012, 03:04:33 PM
It would be nice if they gave us some info... Or let us know they have not run...

This is the first and post by genjix on the matter, 11 days ago:

Like I said in my edited post, IF you don't reimburse your customers I will want to see you and all of Intersango staff wearing a scammer tag, and genjix(or anyone connected with Intersango) kicked out of the Bitcoin dev team. That's all! You're no better than Tom Williams if you don't fully reimburse your customers.

This is the first we have heard of this attack (on the forums just now). zhoutong did not even tell us yet. We were gradually assuming control of Bitcoinica over the last weeks by setting up a new platform.

There shouldn't even be that much money in the live wallet. I'm waiting to get more information before saying more though. This is kind of ridiculous considering that already money was lost on Linode. The big question going through my head is why was that much money being stored on a Rackspace server.

I am angry that our name is being dragged through the mud for something we had no part in.

If they intend to honor their obligations, why the silence?

If everything was wiped, it could be that they do have most of the deposited funds, less of 18k.
But no easy way to figure out, and then verify, who owns what.

The radio silence could be attorneys advice. (Shut up and await trial / investigation.)
It seems like zhoutong was explicitly told to keep his mouth shut.

1330  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: www.fiveminutecoin.com!What do you think about the new version? on: May 22, 2012, 02:05:22 PM
I placed an ad in there for cryptoanarchy.com for 10000 impressions.  I was sure that the radio button was for 10000 impressions, but when it was running it was counting clicks down from 100 instead.

What? One impression per second per user?
1331  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: www.fiveminutecoin.com!What do you think about the new version? on: May 21, 2012, 10:23:09 PM
How about now?

@elux: was that what you meant?

You iterate quick. Smiley

Better. But I still think "click here to get some coins" is vague,
compared to PB's suggestion of "click here to claim your coins".
1332  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: www.fiveminutecoin.com!What do you think about the new version? on: May 21, 2012, 10:06:43 PM
What would you do to make it more visible? Wink

Cool. New version is better version. It's still not completely obvious to the first time visitor what they need to do. (Wasn't to me.)

Suggestion one is a quick fix. Change text to "Click HERE to receive your FIVE Minute Coins."
Or something else. Just be sure to make it immediately, explicitly clear to the user what they need to do.

Suggestion two: Put a new three wide <div> at the bottom, use white-space to separate it vertically from the ads, place the call to action there.

Edit: PinkBatmans text is perfect. You should go with that.

1333  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: suggestions on www.fiveminutecoin.com on: May 21, 2012, 06:48:45 PM
It's not too obvious how to claim your coins. "Click here to get some coins" looks like another ad.

As much as it pains me to admit I think this idea of tainted coins will lead bitcoin to it's death.

Why would you think that?

Any time somebody purchases Bitcoins with fiat money they are doing so with tainted money.
1336  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: PirateAt40's Money Laundering Operations: GPUMAX and BST on: May 20, 2012, 10:47:30 PM

also if it's true let fbi take care of this.

Right. Exactly. That's basically what I'm expecting. So. Just. Take care, you know.

bet you already call them before posting the scheme here  Wink

Are you referring to me? I think they'll manage on their own. Have you not read their recent report on Bitcoin? Wink

Here's a quick analysis:

I certainly don't have enough information to even pretend to know what's going on here.
Interestingly, I notice that BST, GPUMAX, PPT investors sound like they don't have too much of a clue either.
FBI, FinCEN, etc. is likely in the same position, for now. Though maybe not.

To the best of my knowledge - sustained - 7% weekly, compounded return on investment is not encountered in any legitimate line of business.

(For any reasonable, survivable level of risk. (I could be wrong, though I'd be quite (pleasantly) surprised.))

This makes pirateat40 an interesting case.

Now, put yourself in the shoes of a law enforcement agent, take a step back, and make a tally of the evidence.
It seems hard to deny that this case could be pertinent to their interests as well, does it not?

At a minimum I'd expect them to want to know what's going on here.

I would think that law enforcement will want to gather information, and then act upon it, if warranted.

Because that is their job, yes? (And wouldn't you think they'd love to dig up some damning dirt on those Bitcoins?)

If they are doing their jobs right they will eventually try, and they will eventually plausibly succeed.
Try, and succeed at figuring out what's going on, exactly. And who's involved, exactly.
This should be expected to take time. But it sounds quite possible that it could - eventually - happen.

So they they try, and find nothing. Or they find something. Or they find something but not a certain pirate, so they settle for you.
I don't know. Maybe pirateat40 is thoroughly legitimate in every conceivable way. I do hope so, but I wouldn't bet my life on it.

If you have a job, a wife, a family, and you want it to stay that way, you'd do well to keep on your toes.
You realistically need to figure out whether being called in for questioning, or put on trial, is a part of your acceptable risk.

No? Then the worst case scenario could be exactly that.

A worst case scenario.

Cheers!  Smiley

(Corrections are welcome. Not trying to crash the party. Just calling it like I see it.)
1337  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: PirateAt40's Money Laundering Operations: GPUMAX and BST on: May 20, 2012, 07:49:20 PM
The claims have not been debunked.  Not in this thread.

Certainly. While some of you guys (most responders in this thread)
do not appear to take OPs claims seriously, I guarantee you that the FBI will.

If the agents involved in Operation Farmer's Market have finished their investigation, they will be looking at this thread.

Claims that money laundering is not a crime will not save your day in court.
If you have a problem with applicable law, it is you that has a problem, not the law.

In the US, applicable law could mean the RICO statutes.

There is no way everyone involved will have taken sufficient
precautions to stay anonymous under a full and thorough investigation.

Claims of negligence will not save you.

Take care, stay safe, and remember the old adage,
if it sounds too good to be true, then it probably is.

So we know he doesn't like Bitcoinica because he thinks it harms Bitcoin. So, he likes Bitcoin but not Bitcoinica.

Maybe.

This was the topic of the IRC channel, before luke-jr started to act like a frack'n lunatic and change it.

"<BitcoinicaHacker> STATEMENT:: Bitcoinica caused much harm to the value of Bitcoin. They were targeted and destroyed. As sure as Bitcoinica fell, the value of Bitcoin rose. Profit from devaluation surely destroys a currency."

Ahh. Thanks. That clears it up. Smiley

Can I ask why the short notice or has this been posted elsewhere for a while?
It was posted Friday, but didn't get any attention. I thought it would be more buzz about it, so I decided not to post it one or two weeks before like I normally do, a mistake I guess. I will make sure I post it in time next time.
