13201  Economy / Speculation / Where are you currently sitting on the Bitcoin risk/reward spectrum? on: August 25, 2016, 10:31:09 PM
So it's more sideways while the alts do their thing.

At this particular moment in time what are your feelings about Bitcoin's potential upside for the nearish future? Say, 6-18 months.

If you came into a pile of money would you be throwing some in, or do you currently feel that there's not enough potential considering the possibility of further stagnation or falls?
13202  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Thoughts on signature campaigns - helping or hurting? on: August 25, 2016, 10:02:40 PM
The problem, of course, is that people who are willing to work for extremely low wages are happy to spam the forum (and they wouldn't otherwise do it).

It's easy to forget that there are many posters in developing countries. With a couple of farmed accounts you could probably earn just as much here as in a crappy regular job. That's a huge incentive to keep piling up the spam.
13203  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Thoughts on signature campaigns - helping or hurting? on: August 25, 2016, 09:25:47 PM
Maybe you should move this to meta, I dunno.

It's a fine balancing act which currently has tripped and landed on its face. It's probably brought in a lot of new users and drives quite a bit of commerce. At the same time it doesn't half inspire a lot of tripe as well.

I think their future is going to depend on how utterly sick the forum operators become of it and whether the campaign managers are willing to be more proactive. If it stays as it is the party might be curtailed.
13204  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: How to turn BTC of BTC-E CODE to cash in Europe? on: August 25, 2016, 09:03:31 PM
These are still a thing? I rarely see them these days. I'd stick with BTC rather than codes. You could look into funding a debit card and withdrawing cash. A few don't require any ID up to a certain figure.
13205  Economy / Speculation / Re: Why is this sub-forum so dead and unmoderated? on: August 25, 2016, 08:58:52 PM
Can't say I'm surprised. The ATH is not far off three years ago now. That's a vast chunk of Bitcoin's entire lifespan. Some super cool stuff has developed in the intervening years but the world still doesn't look any closer to getting a boner for it all.

Traders appear to have moved to alts. You get a new ATH every week in altland.
13206  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM (XEM) Official Thread - 100% New Code - Easy To Use APIs on: August 25, 2016, 08:33:16 PM
I never bothered to add it up. That's a cool statistic.
13207  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM (XEM) Official Thread - 100% New Code - Easy To Use APIs on: August 25, 2016, 08:16:50 PM
the point is: i like xem, i would like to support xem... but still, i dont think it worth.
i can only make a critique if it is positive?

It's a ludicrous idea to put 30 BTC into something to get a trickle in return but I'll guess the price rise hadn't been anticipated when it was set up.

It's really only viable for people who already have an early stack and are in it for the long run which is exactly the right demographic needed.

The whole point of the supernodes is to be the backbone of the system. You wouldn't want people who were chopping and changing all the time as they'd add nothing but instability.
13208  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How do I become a Bitcoin/Blockchain Expert on: August 24, 2016, 03:46:57 PM
This sounds nice but won't at least a fundamental knowledge be necessary.

Yes. An overview of its capabilities is important but no one person can ever create a unicorn from scratch. Sniff out some possibilities, check whether it's achievable with the right people and away you go.
13209  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Your friend just know about Bitcoin and said he just invested into cloud mining. on: August 24, 2016, 03:09:18 PM
I would tell them that they're going to get fucked and then let them get fucked deep and hard because people never, ever listen to the most blindingly obvious advice.
13210  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Avalon Life - any experiences? on: August 24, 2016, 03:01:29 PM
Looks like utter scamming bollocks as usual. There's no way mining could pay in Costa Rica. And I love the explanation for not supplying any info or photos of the gear itself. That really reassured me.
13211  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How do I become a Bitcoin/Blockchain Expert on: August 24, 2016, 02:54:21 PM
How's your management skills? You don't need to be a tech genius. All you have to do is recruit the right people. There are plenty of people who know a lot who'll never have the initiative to create a business.
13212  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: NEW government Version of Bitcoin??? You have to read this crap! on: August 24, 2016, 02:29:03 PM
Whatever they come up with won't address a single thing that makes Bitcoin valuable. It might make your transfers faster though which is nice.
13213  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Would you live on a seastead that uses nothing but bitcoin for its currency? on: August 24, 2016, 02:27:01 PM
I'll wait a couple of decades to see whether it sinks, gets blown up or goes feral before moving in. Planned utopias usually end up the biggest dystopias.
13214  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Would it be legal to create new crypto? on: August 23, 2016, 06:06:24 PM
Every jurisdiction is different but I wouldn't be surprised if most of them do have laws against issuing your own currency, that's why so many developers are anonymous. And if you try the ICO/IPO route that opens up and even wrigglier can of worms.
13215  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Is bitcoin the answer if traditional investments are letting you down? on: August 23, 2016, 11:22:53 AM
You'd have to have been pretty dim to be let down by traditional investments over the last few years. I don't think Bitcoin is the answer for the average personage. If you don't have the understanding and the passion then you're probably going to have a bad time.
13216  Economy / Speculation / Re: BTC price pretty much flat for the past few weeks. Permanent? on: August 23, 2016, 10:39:51 AM
Bitcoin is no longer the roller coaster is once was.

What I find strange is how the entire roller coaster has transferred wholesale to alts. It's not as if Bitcoin now has global adoption and lords over everything. It has more than the alts but it's still in the same boat and effectively nowhere. In the eyes of the rest of the world it's just as penny stockish as anything else yet doesn't have the corresponding action.
13217  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Give me some Virtual Bitcoin Debit Card Providers! on: August 23, 2016, 10:14:50 AM
Make sure you select a well established one. Any old prick can issue visa and mastercards. They don't seem to care who they hand them out to. It's a very easy way for someone to nick your coins.
13218  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Poloniex XMR deposits get stuck on: August 23, 2016, 08:34:30 AM
How verified are you on there? They'll freeze your account if you deposit or withdraw a large amount without verification.
13219  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What to do when BTC is overrun by a centralized mindset? on: August 23, 2016, 01:01:39 AM
Bitcoin is looking good and there are no other cryptos worth moving your BTC to. Mining will get better soon with western business coming in the game (like McAfee)

I'm very curious to see how this pans out. I don't see how they can possibly compete and I can't imagine someone like that is going to mine for benevolent reasons. There's a reason why mining has congregated in the East and no amount of bluster and gloss is going to change it.
13220  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Give me some business idea to start online. on: August 23, 2016, 12:58:33 AM
There are no decent investment opportunities in Bitcoin. Even the most well capitalised companies with heavyweight backers are burning money at a furious rate. You could get much higher, safer and vastly more numerous returns by remaining in dollars.
