1341  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / the same way you are worried about one party gaining more than 50% hashing on: June 04, 2011, 10:16:16 PM
you should also be worried about one BTC-USD exchange being 90% of the bitcoin exchange.

If MtGox goes down, even temporarily, it could have severe repercussions for people's faith in the ability to transfer between BTC-USD.
1342  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Should everyone with a computer let the program generate bitcoins? For safty? on: June 04, 2011, 11:56:35 AM
1 extra gpu negates thousands of computers running the generate coin function.  not significant.

Could anyone build a better BitcoinX profit tool that takes into account difficulty changes during the given period?

of course but I won't share for free.   Wink

all it really takes is a field for guessing price and difficulty changes as percentages with the default being the historical rates.
1344  Economy / Economics / Re: You cannot talk about Money without watching this movies first on: June 04, 2011, 10:55:01 AM
for so called libertarians you guys sure do seem to forget the principle of contracts between consenting adults being perfectly fine as soon as the topic of money comes up.
1345  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: EAH5850 users? on: June 04, 2011, 05:55:29 AM
looks good, you just got unlucky?

5850 are overclocking beasts but they can't all be perfect.
1346  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: EAH5850 users? on: June 04, 2011, 05:36:11 AM
make sure you're setting the right flags in pheonix.
1347  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: PCI-e 1x Extender not work in 16x connector on: June 04, 2011, 05:20:20 AM
it's a 1x extender.  it isnt made for x16.

duh?
1348  Bitcoin / Mining / XFX 5850 non reference stable OC's? on: June 04, 2011, 05:16:05 AM
Wondering if anyone else has this card and what they are pulling.
I know 925 is stable after running it for several days, now trying 950.

I got up to 985 core before it started getting unstable on stock voltage.
currently running
950/300 @ 1.089v (stock)

~350Mh

not sure if over volting is worth it to try to hit 400.  starts using a lot more watts.
1349  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Best GPU for price on: June 03, 2011, 03:08:50 PM
From another thread i saw earlier :

I now have my 5830 running at 985Mhz, 307Mh/s, 50% fan speed, 70C temp

at ~$100 that's really good bang

mem clock?

300Mhz. I now have the card running at 60C in the basement.

interesting..my xfx with 975/340 wont hit 300, its doing 288 (-v -w128 -f0)

switch to -w256  5830's like it better.
1350  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I just thought of something: DEFLATION! on: June 03, 2011, 03:05:41 PM
maturity mismatch is when the bank uses short term assets to cover long term liabilities.  they get away with this because the vast majority of short term assets are rolled over all the time.  it means that many banks only have the illusion of liquidity.

bitcoin doesn't prevent this.
1351  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I just thought of something: DEFLATION! on: June 03, 2011, 02:32:58 PM
bitcoin doesn't prevent all maturity mismatch.
1352  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will bitcoin bring the worst Schumpeterian crisis of the century? on: June 03, 2011, 10:25:42 AM
I would say that certain types of current banking and financial institutions will do very very well and certain kinds very very poorly under a bitcoin based business model.

How to differentiate?  The difference is between businesses that create or destroy wealth.
1353  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I just thought of something: DEFLATION! on: June 03, 2011, 10:22:50 AM
well you smacked the biggest misean blindspot square on the nose.  not understanding loans and claiming they create money out of thin air.
1354  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / I just thought of something: DEFLATION! on: June 03, 2011, 10:11:58 AM
WE DON'T CARE

can there be a sticky of some sort about stuff like this or at least move all such posts to the econ board where they seem to enjoy the Sisyphean task of explaining the same econ101 points to noobs over and over again?

There might be interesting, subtle, shortcomings to bitcoin.  Deflation isn't one of them.

1355  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: It all makes sense now. Satoshi = ATI CEO on: June 03, 2011, 09:47:32 AM
I hope you're just trolling me.  this post is a joke and anyone who takes such a thing seriously is a mouth breather.
1356  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: 5850, low temp but still seeing artifacts? on: June 03, 2011, 09:36:39 AM
5850 is fine/stable at 900+ core.  Lots of people on oC related forums have hit higher numbers messing with the voltages.  I'm running stock voltage.

OC causes damage is overblown.  Every serious hardware person I've asked says the wear difference is negligible.

There are some things money can't buy, for everything else there's Bitcoin. Grin

This thread is to solicit other viral video suggestions to possibly be made by some bitcoin enthusiasts.
We have the equipment, just need ideas.

don't need an msi board.
1360  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: 5850, low temp but still seeing artifacts? on: June 03, 2011, 05:07:33 AM
MSI afterburner underclocked it for me.
