Wow, I'd love to see $2000!   Shocked

I'm just glad we're not at zero after the first 3 months of nothing but bad news.

At this point I would too.... there's a good chance that might not happen til 2015 though
1344  Economy / Speculation / Re: 2014 is NOT the year of bitcoin, sorry on: March 13, 2014, 05:06:38 PM
I'll bet you exactly 1 BTC that by the end of this year, the price will have seen $1200, Bitstamp.

You can update the wager to your liking.

Nah... I like to keep my word when I make bets and I don't want to lose 1 BTC... like I said $1200 is likely to happen. I think we're gonna be in a boring $600-800 range until July or August.. and then our next rally will take us a little over $2000, correcting back to the $1200 range. Which is not bad, but I don't consider it "the year of btc" after the excitement of last year

1345  Economy / Speculation / Re: 2014 is NOT the year of bitcoin, sorry on: March 13, 2014, 03:56:47 PM
What was your bet?
1346  Economy / Speculation / Re: 2014 is NOT the year of bitcoin, sorry on: March 13, 2014, 03:39:13 PM
Where did I say or imply bitcoin is doomed? I didn't even hint at that

And this is just my opinion, it's a speculation... no need to get upset over it because 1/4 of the year has passed and so far I am right.
1347  Other / Off-topic / Re: Will girls ever like bitcoin? on: March 13, 2014, 01:17:21 PM
I thought BitChick was the only girl in these forums

A more important question...
Will girls ever like bitcoiners?

When BTC hits $10K-100K and you are all millionaires girls will LOVE bitcoiners. Just make sure she signs a prenup

I'd be happy with a very slow and constant rise to $1200 or more by the end of this year - an ATH price that can be supported with a steady, increasing userbase and mainstream acceptance. THAT would make 2014 the year of Bitcoin.

You want a boring slow and steady increase? Congrats, you have one now. And IT SUCKS! Most of the positive media attention and excitement are derived from the insane price increases. It makes bitcoin an attractive investment, it gives it the attention it needs and it's the reason that draws most people into bitcoin whether you like it or not. But instead we are surrounded with FUD, because when the price is boring the negativity speaks louder and morale of the community takes a hit. You're not doing any favors for bitcoin by pretending to be humble and selfless and not caring about the price.

Then again... EVERY YEAR has been the year of Bitcoin as far as I'm concerned, whether the momentum is gained from huge price increases, mainstream acceptance, surviving a scandal, etc. The fact that we're at $650 now, after everything that's happened, coupled with nothing but good news on the horizon, makes me think we'll be just fine.

There's also the very real possibility that the price at the end of 2014 will make us both look like retards. There's 9 months to go...here's hoping.

It can still go anywhere that's for sure. But when I say "year of bitcoin" I'm also talking about the positive attention, positive news, all the developments, etc.. 2013 was an amazing year, and the price had a lot to do with it, I would even say right now it's one of the most important because it brings bitcoin positive attention which also helps it grow.
1349  Economy / Speculation / Re: 2014 is NOT the year of bitcoin, sorry on: March 13, 2014, 01:17:58 AM

Hell no, that's very likely... but that doesn't make 2014 "the year of bitcoin" like 2013 was. $1200?! We used to be so much more ambitious
If you don't consider seeing $1,200 in 2014 to make 2014 "the year of bitcoin", then can you tell us what your criteria would be for 2014 to be the "year of bitcoin"?

(I'm not saying that I think $1,200 is the thing, either, but I as an optimist am interested in hearing what a pessimist like Dafar thinks)

What the guy above me said. Look at the growth in 2012 and 2013 and compare it to the growth $1200 would bring this year, hardly the "year of bitcoin"
1350  Other / Off-topic / Re: Malaysia Airlines Flight 370. WTF? on: March 12, 2014, 07:03:19 PM
It could've had to make an emergency landing for whatever reasons.

There would have been some communication by now and the passengers would have been discovered. And it doesn't explain why the plane completely changed course for several hours
1351  Other / Off-topic / Re: Malaysia Airlines Flight 370. WTF? on: March 12, 2014, 06:34:33 PM
I'm not saying it's aliens...But,... It's aliens.  Cheesy

Why are you so happy? 200+ people are dead
Who says they are dead? Did somebody find the wreckage?

If they're not dead it would be a hostage situation and that's a slim chance
I heard they called one of the passengers and his phone was responding. This means the plane didn't fall into the ocean. IMO somebody hijacked it.

The phones responded for 19 Passengers actually not just one. The relatives even signed a joint statement confirming this. Also Some passenger status became suddenly "ONLINE" on Social media (QQ Group to be specific), very scary stuff.

No one was responding.

I think the story was that some of the phones were ringing instead of going straight to voice mail. But that happens with some phones, this is nothing significant. That "online" thing is complete BS that media is trying to spin to get attention... most likely that person's computer restarted and auto logged in to whatever social media, or something along those lines.

90% chance all the passengers are dead

So the only two options are crash or hostage?

What else would it be? Aliens?

1354  Economy / Speculation / Re: It's been three months... on: March 12, 2014, 02:00:29 PM
We've been on a sideways/downhill path for more than 6 months before... are you really expecting a rally after every 3 months? If that was the case then everyone would be rich.  But there will always be scenarios for non-believers to drop out and for patience to be rewarded
1355  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Co-workers talking about bitcoin.... so much misinformation still today on: March 12, 2014, 01:47:46 PM
I always stop people to correct them and let them know they're spreading B.S./misinformation. Everyone should always correct people if they know they're speaking rubbish.

If I corrected and spent time arguing with every fucking moron who said something stupid, I wouldn't get a lick of work done, or any sleep, and I'd be in a constant rage 24/7.  At some point you have to decide where to pick your fights and when to let morons be morons.

Completely agree with knowing when to pick your fights
1356  Other / Off-topic / Re: Malaysia Airlines Flight 370. WTF? on: March 12, 2014, 01:00:01 PM
It definitely is a mystery. The 777 is a massive plane, not something that simply disappears. So far it seems the terrorism link is extremely unlikely, they were focusing the past 3 days on the wrong reason. The whole terrorism hysteria since the past decade makes people assume terrorism is always the highest possibility.

Personally i see the following scenarios:

1. Plane suffered a mechanical failure, pilots managed to land it on water however due to damage it quickly drowned to the bottom of the ocean. The plane didn't leave debris behind or minimal debris is floating somewhere and we haven't found it yet

2. The plane suffered a major failure that caused instant fire that consumed the passengers and the plane, the plane could've possibility completely disintegrated before reaching the ocean.

3. The plane crashed into the ocean or even land, however we just don't know the exact location yet and we're looking in the wrong places.

4. Plane was shot down by military accidentally, cover up is in the process. There seems to be some radar speculation for this theory where unidentified aircraft where flying close by appearing and then disappearing.

I don't buy the hijack scenario and it actually landed in an abandoned airport, with the number of spy satellites we now have it's possible to zoom in all abandoned airports and scan for the plane.

#4 is a posibility.

But for 1, 2, and 3 it doesn't make sense for the pilots to not comminicate or send out any signals at all.

If people survived someone should have communicated with somebody by now, so they are either all dead or hostages (very unlikely). I feel bad for the family members involved

I hope this doesn't become one of those mysteries that never gets solved

I made this thread before all the GOX drama... told you this was the year of FUD. The common image for bitcoin is lower than it has been in a while.. price is still 50% below last year's ATH and we are midway through March.

Yeah it's only 1/4 of the year... but my stance is still the same for 2014.

I'll bet you exactly 1 BTC that by the end of this year, the price will have seen $1200, Bitstamp.

This is a pretty amazing story

Most likely hijacked since there is no sign of any debris even now (unless it's under the ocean?)... but if it was hijacked it had to have been hijacked by experts who know how to maneuver in a way to avoid any radars
