Mal, I junked my TV 20 years ago.  The quality of TV programming is not what it was in the 50, 60, and even the 70s.

Shows like I Love Lucy, MASH, and Twilight Zone will still be around in 50 years.  But we wont be keeping up with the Kardasians for much longer.

I cannot blame you for junking TV, it is indeed a wasteland.  However, we are in something of a golden age right now and there is actually some amazing isolated nuggets that are WELL worth watching.

Call this an experiment.  Trust me, watch the first season of Breaking Bad - it's only 7 episodes, cut short by a Writer's Guild strike.  Bryan Cranston won Best Dramatic Actor Emmy for this show three times in a row and four times total, and he won his first Emmy with the scream he belts out at the end of Episode 6.  He woulda won a fifth Emmy but they stretched the timing of the show out in a way that made him ineligible one year.  Breaking Bad is widely recognized as arguably The Best Television Drama Ever Made and I am not exagerating when I say it has the emotional depth of Hamlet or King Lear by Shakespeare.

Don't take my word for it.  Lots of critics out there say the same thing.  Here's what Forbes had to say in the final weeks of BB after its six year run:

"Twenty three minutes into Episode 514, entitled “Ozymandias” after a Shelley poem, Breaking Bad made television history....Sometime around that first commercial break, Breaking Bad broke away from the pack and staked its claim to the title of television’s Best Show Ever....

...we’ll be covering our eyes as we watch these last two episodes.

Why does it all matter?

It matters because television finally has a great drama that makes no excuses. Breaking Bad seems destined to end with as much power and majesty as it had during any of its season-ending/season-opening cliffhangers. The water cooler conversation after the finale airs on September 29 will be dominated not by head- scratching analysis, but by slack-jawed awe."

http://www.forbes.com/sites/allenstjohn/2013/09/16/why-breaking-bad-is-the-best-show-ever-and-why-that-matters/

Give BB a try.  I'll bet 100 Crypti you binge watch it just like millions of others did to get ready for its final season.

Heck, you can watch the extended version of the Breaking Bad pilot episode 1 (originally aired with no commercials and HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for the extra scenes) right here right now:

http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xm12aj_1x01-pilot_shortfilms

I Love Lucy, MASH, and Twilight Zone will still be around in 50 years.  Breaking Bad will be passed down for thousands of years as an American Tragedy just as much as any Greek Tragedy has spent thousands of years getting to us.

Once we had made forging unprofitable, charging a 10K fee seemed overkill, so we lowered it.  The community (that's you Mal), were asking for 1000XCR fee for delegates, but we voted and decided on a lesser amount: 100XCR.

I would phrase it "Once we realized no matter what we did that forging was going to be unprofitable..."  and from there 100XCR for the Delegate fee is absolutely the right move.  I woulda asked for 100XCR instead of 1000XCR but I thought you would believe I was crazy and laugh at me.   I'm proud of you guys, I truly believe you've done the right thing.

I have identified 140 people from Peercoin and Bitshares that set up nodes for those PoS/DPoS coins with their own funds just to try out the role of noderunner for themselves.   Over the next week or so I intend to PM them and ask if they would be interested in doing the same for Crypti and join us in the start of our adventure.  I'm gonna offer to send them 110 Crypti each to cover their Delegate fee if they accept and register.  We'll see what fruit this initiative bears, stay tuned.

The only interesting girl you're gonna find at Yahoo is Marissa Mayer.

Use Google Images for "crypti girl":

Oh, yeah.  That's more like it.

I still say Kari Russell is MY crypti(c) girl...did you SEE the focus shift in that final camera shot just before fade-to-black in the Season 3 Finale for The Americans?  THAT is brilliant cinematography.

We are using Roboto, like the google material design guideline suggests. It's the most typical font for material design and already used at http://crypti.me

Check it out: http://www.google.com/design/spec/style/typography.html#typography-typeface

I have a personal interest in typography, and I like Roboto.

To be fair, many people don't:

FEE UPDATE / REMINDER

We have now hit block 114,000 and all fees have transitioned to their new values!!

The fees are now as follows:

Delegate Registration: 100 XCR (down from 10,000)

Second Passphrase Registration: 5 XCR (down from 100)

That's huge change. What is the reasoning of this?

Simple.  Don't demand high fees from the very people you are asking to support your DPoS network forever with money out of their own pocket.  And don't discourage better security with high fees.

1346  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XCR] Crypti | DPoS | 100% own code | Dapp Store on: April 23, 2015, 08:24:36 PM
We will have a big focus on the mobile market. Personally, I think that in the mobile market is the greatest opportunity for cryptocurrencies.

Agreed, and glad to see dev interest in this.

I went back and looked at the Crypti roadmap for June - September.  While I hope to see smartphone apps added there, I certainly agree with the priorities listed.

Third party blockchain integration with BTC is very important.  The ability to buy / sell / exchange XCR to and from BTC within the Crypti client (and without an external exchange) would be huge.

After reading up on TITAN, I see that it could be very important too.

http://wiki.bitshares.org/index.php/TITAN

Very exciting time for Crypti devs.  You guys are finally out of the swamp and going places!

1347  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XCR] Crypti | DPoS | 100% own code | Dapp Store on: April 23, 2015, 06:43:09 PM
In the name Dapp Store, what D stands for?

Decentralized.  A "dapp" is an "app" that utilizes a decentralized blockchain as a part of its data-sharing-among-users subsystem, hopefully to provide some advantage that could not be realized using a centralized location / method for sharing data.

Crypti will offer custom blockchains.  These will be used for data storage / dissemination by dapps.  What advantage(s) this offers is the key consideration.

Instead of looking for a "killer app" for the general public, Crypti needs to identify a "killer dapp" that uses its custom blockchains.

1348  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XCR] Crypti | DPoS | 100% own code | Dapp Store on: April 23, 2015, 05:00:59 PM

Using Crypti on a smartphone, purchase a relatively small item like a candy bar from a vendor running a Lite client on a small black box.

In Northern Europe, especially the Scandinavian countries, you have been aboe to do this for 20 years.  With your Nokia Phone, you call the number listed on the vending machine, and select your item, then they bill your phone by deducting the amount from your SIM card balance.

And we can extend that vending machine functionality to ANY vendor with a cheap online Raspberry Pi 2 running Crypti Lite.  The smartphone displays a QR code of the Crypti account to be debited, the Raspberry Pi built-in camera reads it and immediately puts the transaction on the blockchain.

Now THAT will be MEGA huge when it shows up on 0.7.0...

Version 0.3.4

Attention all Delegates!

New Delegate Monitor page! On-line now at:

http://cryptichain.me/delegateMonitor

Great job, Karma!

I have a proposal for your next feature to add:  A continual update on current blockchain length, and how many MB the blockchain has grown over the past 24 hours.

I still think that blockchain pruning is a hugely important feature that currently no cryptocoin has.  The tight coordination of the 101 Delegates should at last offer a method of re-creating a new consensus-signed Genesis Block when our blockchain gets to 1GB or 2GB or whatever.  This could become a key Crypti selling point.  Seeing a continually rising blockchain memory size counter will continually remind us of this critical, unresolved issue.

You might also look at and possibly incorporate for Crypti some of the other listings / data points / charts / features displayed here:

Crypti Design Preview

Today I want to show you something we worked on for quite a while already, a new design for our client. We as a team wanted a sleek, intuitive and familiar user interface... our designer created something really beautiful!

Stay tuned, there is still so much more to come for Crypti and we truly believe, that we create something huge here!

The Crypti Foundation

Wow.  Absolutely beautiful.  The features you outline going forward thru 0.5.0 are all critical.

That said, at some point we've got to shift from desktop/laptop/tablet client to a mobile platform.  Let me propose my vision of a goal for Crypti 0.6.0 or 0.7.0 or....

Using Crypti on a smartphone, purchase a relatively small item like a candy bar from a vendor running a Lite client on a small black box.

Keep up the great work, gang.

Crypti v0.2.0a Release

....we lowered the delegate registration fee to 100 XCR (from 10,000 XCR before). Additionally we don't want to hinder people from making their accounts more secure, that's why we also lowered the 2nd passphrase initialization fee to 5 XCR (from 100 XCR before).

Important

We decided to <start these new fees at> the block height of 114,000! It's roughly in two days...Everyone who register a delegate between now and block 114,000 will not be reimbursed the 9,900 XCR.

Absolutely a move in the right direction for Crypti.  I look forward to block 114,001, and will register my Delegate at that time.  Thanks, devs!

If we spent money on marketing now,  the visiting public would see "just another alt coin".  Unlikely they would remember to check on us again once we have the DAPPs functional.

This is actually a sensible decision. It's good to know you do aknowledge that Crypti is at the moment just one of 20 coins that are similar to each other from the point of end-user experience. You need some bang style application (like a mobile android/ios wallet or adoption by a larger business) before you should throw more than $10 into any marketing.

Agree with all of this, ESPECIALLY the need to get some Crypti smartphone apps going.

Big difference in price between Cryptsy and Poloniex.  Anybody been in touch with Cryptsy to get their 0.2.0 wallet working?  We need arbitrage capability to converge on a true market price...even if it is at small volume at the moment.

I would appreciate it, and so will you IF YOU DONT REGISTER ANY MORE DELEGATES for the time being....We are having an update scheduled for Friday.

OK, Crypti Lite Wallet is out.  What's the deal now on registering delegates?  I've been holding off in doing so because of the post above.  Is it time now, or should I wait longer?

Hey Mal,

early next week. This is not an easy task like changing a number in the code, it requires heavy testing as we need to introduce this at a certain block height. And this is a first for Crypti if I remember correctly. Smiley

Roger, thanks.  Hey, I started a suggestion box for added features since I know how bored the devs are and how easy it is to just pop in new stuff:

http://forum.crypti.me/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=43

I've actually started a lot of posts over on the new board, not to be a pest but to try and keep relevant new posts coming so there's always a reason for others to keep going back.  It's hard to get a new forum off the ground and the key is continually fresh content.   Maybe I should start a thread there with more photos of Keri Russell from The Americans...

I'm feeling good about this release. I also agree with Bigcabrito about his suggestion to rename "Crypti Lite Wallet" to just "Crypti Wallet" and the one with blockchain is "Crypti Delegate".... In OP you need to put Crypti Lite links first, cause there alway will be more casual users, then delegates. "Full wallet" is only for delegates.

+1 these excellent suggestions.

OP updated.

I hope you like it. Smiley

Looks great, but weren't there some links to instructions on how to set up a node on Amazon and Digital Ocean?  I think those were very useful and I had been eyeing them to set up my own Delegate node.  I think these instruction pages are here, you may want to put a link to them (back) on the OP...

https://github.com/crypti/crypti-docs/blob/master/AWSnode.md

https://github.com/crypti/crypti-docs/blob/master/DOnode.md

I updated the file name, I just felt "node" fit better then "windows" even though these are guides for windows users. I would rather not confuse ppl thinking these are running on windows. I also updated the port number to reflect the port used in 2.0 (8040), this will be helpful when setting up the firewall on AWS. I changed the links in your quote above.

Thanks for this post, I was using the old port 6040 from the 0.1.9 version of the instructions and not getting the web wallet to come up.  Now I know why.
