Props for turning a discussion into an argument; extra points for starting if off with an insult!

Semantics aside of whether something is a discussion or argument, I'm sorry if that came off as an insult. I just find that in such discussions/arguments, people often get too deep into it, trying to "win", and eventually everyone loses sight of the big picture and it becomes completely derailed from the original topic. Happens to me too.

Hehe no worries man!  I just wanted to bring things back to baseline Grin

Regarding what you've just said - that's an ability few people have, to 'take a step back' and look at the situation from a different angle...you have my respect!

Cheers Grin

In an effort to seem intelligent, your argument misses the point to begin with.

Hi OBAViJEST,

We had an network issue with the pool server this morning which created a bit of a performance impact on the Website, all has been resolved.

There is no security breach or shutdown, just was running a bit slow for a few hours Smiley

Thanks

Hi!  Very nice to see such a quick reply from the staff here.

I'll resume using your exchange, then!  Really like the site.  Also - I'll inform everyone that I've spoken with about the matter and correct myself  Grin

Take care, keep up the good work!

(I can also delete this if you want, just let me know you've seen this first)

Quick question before I throw out some ideas:

Are you trying to get a certain number of views by this tweet, or are you trying to make money off it?  For example, a tweet that somehow allows people to send you bits?  Or are you just trying to tweet something that, once people see it, think, 'hmm...I should get into bitcoin'?

Thanks  Grin

BOTH if possible :-) , but I'm looking to get others into BITCOIN also, as a newbie myself I think the more people who know about it the better, and get other service providers into the bitcoin market as well.

THANKS EVERYONE WHO IS CONTRIBUTING!!! KEEP THE IDEAS COMING :-)

Thanks for the response...in that case:

Address universal problems with the current banking system, especially if there are issues specific to your location (certain fees for certain activities, exchanging currencies, delays/losses/recurring charges) then explain how bitcoin is free from such fiat-specific negatives. If you have followers that own businesses, explain how accepting bitcoin removes credit card transaction fees, for example. But word it in a way that catches peoples eyes Wink

Another way to really get peoples interest is through change tip - throw a couple cents around!  People will jump at the opportunity to cash that in, and chances are some will get hooked (and learn about bitcoin in the process). This option might see you on the receiving end of a couple tips as well!!!

The main thing is to start out the tweet with something that'll make people do a double-take: 'wait, I can do WHAT with btc? What's btc?' And the rest is history Wink

If anyone has funds on Cryptopia, I would recommend withdrawing everything!  The site's grinding to a halt, who knows if they forgot to pay their bill Grin or are under a DDoS attack Shocked  it took me about 1,000 F5's before I could even SEE my account balances (it either said 0 balance, or simply timed out), and another 1,000 refreshes to be able to withdraw my coins into other wallets away from the site.

Who knows, it may resume as normal by the time I finish typing this, but in a worse-case scenario, it's better to take the hit of a withdraw fee than lose it all...

everything is fixed! they were just having minor network issues related to a pool server. sorry for any problems i may have caused...
1351  Economy / Service Discussion / Warning to all Cryptopia users! on: May 07, 2015, 08:18:09 PM
Recently, the Cryptopia exchange has become increasingly hard to connect to.  Anyone know what's going on?

When I attempt to view my account, it'll either show up as a balance of 0 (!) or simply time out.  Luckily after thousands of F5's I managed to withdraw what small funds I had; taking a hit from the withdraw fee sucks but it's better than losing it all in the event of a security breach, shutdown, etc.

Just wanted to spread the word in case anyone here hasn't been on the site in a while.

Yeah that is an ongoing issue with them. We tell them there is a problem and they say it is fixed.
Try removing all the - from your address.

Weird - I created a new address for that transaction, which didn't work....but when I just tried using my original address, it went through before I even had the chance to cancel it on bittrex!  I'm watching the confirmation numbers rise now, so I hope things are going as planned Shocked

Appreciate the help - but don't go anywhere, I'm sure you'll hear from me soon Grin Grin

Thanks again!

Im happy to help. You can also go to nem.io https://forum.ournem.com or http://webchat.freenode.net/?channels=ournem

Thanks!  In IRC now Wink

I accidentally hit 'delegate harvesting' twice...will I be charged 12XEM instead of 6?? I sent a support ticket just in case...

I just went through the process of setting up an account and VM with Amazon VPS, so that I could run a node & harvest.

Completed the VPS set up flawlessly, synced my NEM wallet, and clicked on 'Delegate Harvest' only to get....insufficient balanceHuh?

Can anyone fill me in on what I'm doing wrong?  Do I need a certain balance before I even begin?  I have a bunch of funds scattered throughout exchange-land, if its necessary for me to make a deposit first....

Thanks in advance for any and all help Grin I hope to be joining and supporting the NEM community soon!!!

Hi
Welcome  Smiley
Yes, activating delegated harvesting is a transaction and costs 6 xem.
The minimum vested balance required to harvest is 10000 xem

Thanks for the quick reply!  Should I just buy through an exchange, or would something like shapeshift be the fastest way to buy in?

I dont think shapeshift has nem yet. I sent a few emails, maybe you could try too.
The most volume is on poloniex right now. It seems to be fast and efficient.
There is also bittrex, btc38, and some others too.

Thanks - I actually purchased 15,000 XEM on bittrex, in what seemed like an instant!  But I'm still having trouble sending it to my XEM wallet; my bittrex account says it's an invalid address?  Any ideas as to why?

1358  Economy / Goods / Re: Prevention is better than a cure. Please escrow. on: May 07, 2015, 12:40:33 AM
How can I provide escrow services to users here so that I can start gaining some trust? I want to break out of this noob reputation...not to mention I'd like to put my honest morality to some good use.  I have proof of honest sales made on eBay and reddit, but not much besides that :/

People generally only accept escrow services from trusted, well-established members of the community. Nobody would accept an escrow service from a newbie account because of the high amount of risk involved - the escrow might run away with the funds.

If you want to build your reputation here, you should be active and write constructive posts, and you should trade slowly as your rank increases. Eventually, you will have made enough honest sales that you will have built a strong trust profile and will have a good reputation, but this will take time and effort.

Thanks for the response.  Where do you recommend I start gaining reputation?  I'd prefer to start off with small amounts, not only because I don't know who to trust, but for reasons you've brought up about my current standing.  Thanks again, highly appreciated!
1359  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Your opinion on . . . on: May 07, 2015, 12:24:39 AM

So you read a lot of threads and saw scam here, scam there. See this place as a pump and dump, and never got the tech stuff? But you want advice from more "knowingly opinions" than yours?  A contradictory or self-defeating course of action come to mind? "That's some catch, that Catch-22," he observed.

"Hold on honey, not now.  Some guy needs help and I'm going to give him some of Daddy's special metaphors."

"Oh, Chew Kok, why don't you ever avoid my questions with vague philosophical anecdotes...take me now!"

Thanks really nice to see activity from our Magical Magi community!
If you are good with reddit it would be nice to help with promoting Magi there.
And indeed other social media like twitter and facebook are very important marketing tools.
Magi is working his way up on the Cryptsy votinglist but no need to buy votes. Only use free votes or Cryptsypoints for that.
Magi is also on www.socialcrypto.net Join the community there also. You can use facebook to log in! Smiley

Thanks!  I'll keep you updated Grin
