13521  Economy / Economics / Re: Man generates his own electricity, still pays electricity taxes on: August 15, 2018, 01:17:28 PM
Unfortunately, this person was not informed about how the electric system works in Canada, maybe if he know how stupid rules his county have, he would not invest in solar panels. In some countries people can sell energy they produce in main grid, and make some profit from that - and I see this man can also do that :

Quote
Currie is part of P.E.I.’s net metering program, which allows individual homeowners to generate their own electricity, sending any excess into the grid in exchange for credits so they don’t have to pay when they draw electricity back out of the grid — for example, at night when solar power can’t be generated.

But if he wants to keep all electricity for himself he need to pay tax. It is strange, but in this way Canada wanted to discourage people who would like to be energetically independent.

Since the owner is connected to the grid it is normal to pay some taxes, but since the house is self sustained i don't understand why doesn't he just disconnected himself from.the national electric grid. It is as simple as that.

I am not sure can he do that, maybe there is some law by which it is mandatory to have an electric meter and be connected to the electrical network, but it would be nice to just disconnect from the main grid. Although even then it would not be impossible for the government to collect taxes, it would be probably based on the size of the house or solar panels.
13522  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Hardware Wallet Can Hack Too! We are not safe then? on: August 15, 2018, 10:15:18 AM
Recently I have read several topics that their Trezor, Ledger wallet got compromised! They never ever take pictures of secret seed, they did not save phrase code in online. Then how their hardware wallet got compromised? Today this thread shocks me, https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=4869771.0 , What should we do now to secure our assets! I am really feeling not secure anymore. I did not take any pictures, did not save phrase code anywhere. But, still am I not safe? OMG!

You and other 15 users ( so far ) did not read anything in that thread except maybe the title and the first post.

OP is also posted in Bitcoin Technical Support and he/she is obviously forgot on this thread.

Thanks for the help everyone. At this point, all indications point towards an insider job. We have traced the chain of custody and it is unrelated to any technical issue with Trezor.

So it is clear that there is no problem with Trezor, insider job probably means that some of victim family/friends took advantage of the opportunity and wipe out his hardware wallet. Since it is over 35 BTC stolen this is classic case for police, the thief probably left some traces. What we can learn from this that even coins are on hardware wallet and seed written down on paper does not mean we are safe.

Written in a very simple way - OP friend is just a victim of someone close, friend or family member who use his seed written on paper or securiy PIN code for physical access to Trezor. There is no hack of hardware wallet, really do not understand the amount of ignorance some users on this forum show each day.
13523  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][XRB]Cryptocurrency's killer app: RaiBlocks micropayments on: August 15, 2018, 09:45:41 AM
to the commentors above......this coin dumped BEFORE the bear market happened LOL.  it just kept dumping now the past 1-2 month even MORE with the bear market.  when the bull market returns, do you really think this coin is going back to $30USD range?  keep dreaming lol.  $1-$3 bucks maybe.  $10 would be a super dream.

Of course it is dumped, I post here proof of that long time ago - all that hacked coins from BitGrail are dumped slowly day by day. If you have 15-17 million of coins hacked and dumped, and in case of Nano it is more then 10% of total supply what else we can expect then situation like this. And if we add to that BTC big pump and correction after that, it was fatal combination for all altcoins and especially for Nano.

If or when BTC is start to rise it will probably affect on most altcoins. We can not know how Nano will react in few months or in few years, even now it is 1$+ and if BTC double its price do you believe Nano will stay at the same value or reach only 3$?
13524  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2018-08-14] Turkish Bitcoin Volume Soars as Traders Flee the Lira on: August 15, 2018, 09:23:35 AM
https://money.cnn.com/2018/08/14/investing/turkey-lira-emerging-market-crisis/index.html

Looks like this crisis is triggered by Donald Trump... I will quote from the article above : " Turkey's currency plunged as much

as 18.5% on Friday after Trump vowed to double the steel and aluminum tariffs he imposed on Turkey. " His political decisions

has devastating consequences on emerging markets globally. If this continues, then most people in these emerging markets

will have to run to safe havens like Bitcoin.  Roll Eyes

Too bad that you not read even a single post in this thread, I write the same thing and you just repeated same news with quote again...

Turkey's financial crisis is created with some intention, first was a failed military coup and now someone is targeting their financial system - it is not necessary to be too intelligent to sum up two and two in this story. I just hope we will not see third phase in Turkey, and this is war...

Can BTC make any difference in Turkey now? I think not, there is simply no sufficient infrastructure, no BTC ATMs and even few biggest exchanges in Turkey recorded 100%+ increase in volume they only have 11+ million $ in 24 hour of trading, rather insignificant amount compared to the global volume.

13526  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2018-08-14] Turkish Bitcoin Volume Soars as Traders Flee the Lira on: August 14, 2018, 12:53:24 PM
It seems that the relations between Turkey and the USA getting worse with each passing day, and fact that turkish lira is lost 45% compared to the dollar since the beginning of this year tells us that something very serious is happening in Turkey. 4 days ago Trump posted a tweet that USA is doubling tariffs on steel and aluminum, and lira is drop by 20%. This is the classic method of economic blackmail performed by USA government, all with the intention to change something in Turkey.

Erdogan will ask for help from some other countries (China&Russia), but given the huge external debt of 400$+ billion at the end of 2017, more then 50% of GDP, such a collapse of the national currency will make things more difficult.

Some will seek safety in BTC, smart ones already done it before - but it is known fact that less then 1% of world population is using BTC - probably the percentage of people in Turkey is not much bigger then that.
13527  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Should I switch to USDT ? on: August 14, 2018, 12:21:25 PM
It is not good time to sell any coins in this moment, all crypto market is in red and most of coins are at the lowest levels in the past year or even more. But on the other hand you can try to make some profit from this, even you will take some risk with selling now and convert to USDT. In this way you will keep value of your altcoins, but risky part is point when you will buy back those coins.

It is a tricky decision, to hold and watch price drop even more or try your strategy - but this is up to you, unfortunately no one can predict how the situation will develop in the following days or months.
13528  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][XRB]Cryptocurrency's killer app: RaiBlocks micropayments on: August 14, 2018, 10:24:19 AM
Hi guys, tell me please, who should I contact to help with the installation of the wallet (OSX).

If you have any problem with installation you can post here, but also on Nano Reddit, Discord, Twitter - all links can be found on Nano official site https://nano.org/en .

Nano is now under 1$, but all market is in red, we can not change anything - even if it looks bad, this is an opportunity to invest and wait for new bull run. This is still a game for those who have patience, so never invest money you need - you may lost it or wait too much time to get some profit. Nano is a great project, the worst decision is to sell your coins now and exit with the loss.
13529  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Is mining in Venezuela illegal? on: August 14, 2018, 09:59:26 AM
I heard that mining 1 Bitcoin in Venezuela costs approx. $3k whereas in European countries it's more than $6k. It would be a big shame if they had banned mining.

You should not listen to rumors, there are some research which confirmed that in Venezuela mining of 1 BTC is the cheapest in the world and cost only 530$. Also judging by the statement from Carlos Vargas ( government’s cryptocurrency superintendent ), crypto mining is not illegal and all citizens who were indicted and prosecuted will be released from all charges. This is news from January 30 2018, it is possible that something has changed since then, so if you plan to move in Venezuela for mining everything needs to be checked. Just for info, the average salary in this country is less then 10$.

Thanks for some of the more updated info. It's always nice to see links too. I remember reading about a guy who was in Venezuela in 2015. We wanted to see what he could do for 100 euros. We stayed in a 5-star hotel, he bought a plain ticket, he rented a convertible for the day, he bought loads of beer, he bought a bunch of drugs, he ate in the best restaurants, he got a massage and still gave some of the money away. I wonder if it's cheaper or more expensive there now. It seems like it would be pretty nice to live there if you had even a small mining farm. You could live on very little money!

As I said in my post, average monthly salary is less then 10$ and most of that money is in food stamps. With 100 euros you can live pretty good there, since this is more then total annual salary. But as some other says, even electricity is cheap, there is no stability of the electrical system and enough electricity for normal living needs. On paper it looks very promising, but in reality it is far from it.

It's really strange that people of Venezuela live in such a poverty, considering that this country have biggest oil reserves in the world. If they can make even small mining farms that would mean a lot for them, actually every extra $ would mean improving living standards.

yes for me its mostly a security feature .
Becourse i cant check logs daily somethis few days pass away until i can check for fraud...... so currently many bots claimed on my faucet and most of bot users had about 3-5 k in balance when i found them ....... so if i would payed them direct i had loosed many coins on this situation..... many thinks like this happend in more than 4 years now and the threshold brings me more time to check fraud activites .....

but i have to say iam now logn time in faucet buissnes and i saw many faucets come and go in short time and  nealy no instant faucet become old...

regards

This is true, it is much easier to catch bots if you have big withdraw threshold - but with such low reward it takes too many time for ordinary user to reach that threshold . I would rather set lower threshold and check every payment manually, but depending on the number of users this would require too much work.

Hello, I add your faucets on my list - some of them have decent rewards, you can check where they are placed on the lists and maybe set up better rewards to get more attention from users. I notice only one thing that should maybe be better, after solving short link users is redirected to enter faucet page again - it would be better to redirect users to main faucet page. However maybe you use this as extra bot protection.

Good luck with your project Smiley
13531  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2018-08-13] Create an Unforgettable Wallet Seed by Building a Memory Palace on: August 13, 2018, 03:10:03 PM
This is not something new, and I believe that the average person can do that - but it is not in any case unforgettable, human brain is not perfect. Actually, you need to create a story and use seed words in that story, then learn that story word by word. In case you have an accident that has caused memory loss this method is far from safe storage.

Much better method would be to write down some short story/maybe song and use your seed words, then try to remember those words. This would be backup of memory palace, and some song/story on a piece of paper probably will not attract attention of family member or housebreaker. Backup of backup is always wise decision, and in case of cryptocurrency I think that the extra security certainly makes sense.
13532  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: YoBit stole 10 ETH from me – a conversation with Dominik Herzog - Chat Log on: August 13, 2018, 01:16:22 PM
You send ETH to wrong address and you do it on YoBit exchange, two big mistakes in one move. It is possible to recover your coins, but it takes time, good will, and technical knowledge to do this. Unfortunately with YoBit you can not count to none of the above mentioned, it is just maybe one of the worst exchanges when it comes to user support.

Some other exchanges which have much better customer support and a better reputation do not want to solve such problems, in addition to what I mentioned there is also security issue when exchange performs such a procedure. I do not know is there anything in YoBit TOS regarding yor problem, but you can read what Bitfinex says about it.
13533  Economy / Speculation / Re: I confirm my forecast - $100k by 2019 for 1 BTС on: August 13, 2018, 12:31:43 PM
$100k by 2019 for 1 BTС

Hey! Cheesy
Now I will write for someone a shocking thought. Back in December 2017, I wrote that by 2019 the price of the first coin would be about 100,000 dollars.
However, at that time there was a "bullish" December.
However, and now I confirm my previous forecast - $ 100,000 (+/- 20,000) in 2019 for 1 BTС

Now, let me remind you, the price of a Bitcoin equals "only" 6500

Let this message "stay" here. Only 4 months left.
And what do you think about it?
Thank you!
#Bitcoinprice2019

And I would become a multi millionaire if it happens. So I want it to happen. However, forecasting without any solid proof can be considered as FUD according to many forum members.

May I know the background of this forecast please??

Oh sure.
I wrote an article in Russian. Then - give a couple of days to write an English short version of the times.

We still wait for you to post in english, but I doubt you can write something spectacular which will support your speculation. I guess that you may count on possible approval of BTC ETF or Bakkt project, but whatever it is in your mind it must be something big. To reach from todays 6000$+ to 100k$ it takes a lot of money, and only large institutional money can affect on price in such a way in such a short time.

I think it's realistic to expect six figures numbers in next 3-5 years, but it should be kept in mind that after any of such big pumps correction is follow. How to increase price of BTC and keep such high values is the real question.
13534  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: BTC,BCD,about electrum bitcoin diamond 3.1.2 on: August 13, 2018, 10:00:03 AM
I installed electrum bitcoin diamond 3.1.2
I found my seed from 12 words.
I checked the bcd I found and sent it to the exchange.
But the BCD was not sent, but the BTC was sent.
I think I found both BTC and BCD from 12 words.
I am sure I sent a BCD but it was sent to BTC.
The exchange had the same BTC address and BCD address.
So I think it's the BTC. Could it be?
Can a BTC be sent from a BCD wallet?
Can't I find my BCD in this case?
What should I do if I can find it?

From where you download Electrum BCD wallet? It seems to me that you have fake version from https://www.electrumdiamond.org/ , and this is something about what was being debated in this thread. I check official page of BCD http://btcd.io/#/download ( I hope this is official site ) and there is also available Electrum BCD, but that version is 3.0.5.3 and my AV is not like it.

I hope you did not lost your BTC, if you see coins on exchange just create new wallet in Electrum BTC and send it back to that new wallet/address. Your seed may be compromised, and it is possible to send BTC to BCD address since they share same address format according to what I know.
13535  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Eth will back to 500$ on: August 13, 2018, 09:28:45 AM
ETH can back to 500$ or any other value only if BTC increases its value, this is how altcoins market works so far. But from recently it seems that this has changed, and we can see that in fact BTC lost in value around 2000$ from Jul 25 2018 until today - and ETH some 150$ in value at the same time.

That jump of BTC from Jul 13 2018 to Jul 25 2018 has increased its value for 2000$+, but in the same time ETH is rise only 50$. So if we compare that data we can see that ETH is drop to 330$ at this moment, which is 100$ down in comparison to BTC.

In general BTC is worth today almost as much as a month ago, but ETH lost 100$ in the same time.
That make sense. I thought about that too. Now BTC is the most stable coin on market, so even ETH now costs low, than in 2017 when BTC price was about 6500 in November 2017, but after that ETH price went up with BTC and all we saw bull market.
Now I think people sold alts in the first move and after that maybe they sold ETh and other huge coins to buy stable BTC.

It is possible that the announcement of possible BTC ETF and Bakkt project somehow influenced in what is usually happening in the market, when BTC price rise up almost all altcoins follow that upward trajectory. I think many just sold altcoins and convert to fiat, because when you look at the price of BTC it should be much higher if all that money is flow in that direction.

ETH is in some strange situation these days, in last 24 hours BTC price is go up for 200$ and ETH is stay at same value. It is one of 4 coins in top 20 with no price increase, so maybe someone in the background is working on lowering the price even more.

Curretn rate is 15% its only showing on the login screen .
I added this information now also to the  Frequently Asked Questions section Wink

kind regards

Thank you for info - I will check your faucet again, but as I say before that 15k treshold is pretty discouraging for any user even we know you paying. I always prefer faucets that pay direct to FH or at least have lower withdraw treshold. I know it is good for owner security, but many users just give up after some time and get one big 0 and wasted time.
13537  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Which multi crypto wallet is safe for long term holding? Please read description on: August 12, 2018, 02:57:55 PM

I am not a techie person so just want to ask one question:

If Exodus stores private keys locally & suppose that my device gets lost, stolen or damaged then is it possible to access my account using some other device?

Kindly guide me on this.

By what is stated at Exodus site it is possible to view private key for any address, so you can just copy/paste your private keys and store them in safe place. In case something happens to your device it is possible to import that keys on other device and restore your coins, read more here.

But much easiest way is to just write down 12 secret words (seed) which you get when create Exodus wallet, and then you have all you need in case you need it, read more here.

This should be good way of protecting your coins, but only in case you have clean device/there are many sophisticated attacks these days aimed to hack crypto coins on users PC. So you shoud be very careful when using your device, even if you using desktop wallet.

I know you have no intention to invest in hardware wallet, but for long term holding in my opinion it is best option. Private keys are always safe inside device, even if your device is compromised it will not affect security of your coins.

13539  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: are you now afraid to save bitcoin until December 2018 on: August 12, 2018, 11:03:42 AM
I saw a lot of news in the media about the price of bitcoin.
and they predict bitcoin can go to the month again in December 2018
and there are some media that say the price of bitcoin will go down and this news makes investors afraid to buy bitcoin.

do you believe the price of bitcoin will rise?
or believe the price of bitcoin will drop!

First you should learn to not trust in everything you read or hear in the media, their main objective is profit and in order to achieve this very often they are created articles who do not have much to do with the truth or with the current situation. You also need to improve your written english, there is an expression "To The Moon", not to the month Wink

If you check some data from the past, summer time in the northern hemisphere is usually the bad period for BTC. The reason is that a good deal of people travels and goes on vacations, you have less demand for coins/less volume on exchanges. I personally think that we should see some action in last 2-3 months of this year, maybe something similar as last year, but it is difficult to predict something like that.

13540  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Bitcoins disappeared on: August 12, 2018, 10:25:11 AM
bul206, your problem is in very old version of Electrum wallet which have problem with synchronization and because of that you see your balance as 0. You get good advices to solve your problem, but to make it even easier for you just follow this steps :

- write down your seed (secret words)  - go to Wallet - Seed and if you have set password type it to get seed.
- visit https://electrum.org/#download and download latest version for your operating system.

After that you will have latest version of Electrum, just open it and let it sync - you should see your balance updated.
