Monero is a very good altcoin worth investing, and I believe there are a lot of monero user out there so starting a Monero Fantasy Football League might be workable, but to start off with 1 XMR buy in might not be very attractive, as players might want to familiarize themselves with a couple of games first before deciding to deposit higher amount.

I understand what you mean that now and days 1 XMR is a pretty steep price in terms of USD; but at the same time this isn't a daily fantasy football league nor am I running a daily fantasy website.  This is for the full NFL regular season and we are just having someone hold everyones buy-ins for the season and pay out to the winner at the very end.

Anyone here interested in playing fantasy football this upcoming NFL season?  Come join the elite few who will end up telling their grandchildren one day that they joined the first ever, first annual Monero Fantasy Football League!

1363  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Announcements (Altcoins) / Monero Fantasy Football League 2017 on: June 17, 2017, 02:15:26 PM
Ladies and gentlemen.  Boys and girls.
It's time for the 1st ever... 1st annual...

Monero Fantasy Football League!

Due to the pretty good turnout of Monero Madness, I figured that hopefully we'll get the same good turn out and not dread the upcoming winter months with a good ol' fashion fantasy football league.

This thread is just to be able to see how many people would want to participate, but the tricky part is that for fantasy football to work, we need to get an even amount of players (6,8,10,etc.).  This is why I want to get word out there early so we can have some time to find more people as we get closer to football season.

As of right now we still got some things to decide on:

1.Buy in:  I'm suggesting a 1 xmr buy in, but if people want to do more or less, let me know in this thread so we can discuss.

2.Escrow:  Since we had Jwinterm hold the "pool wallet" for Monero Madness, and the fact that I personally just trust the guy not to pull any bamboozles or flim-flams; I say we use him as escrow. But if someone else wants to recommend someone to hold funds (that is trustworthy) for the league we can do that too since Jwinterm will be participating.

3.Trophy:  I'm willing to purchase a nice little trophy for the winner.  I'm thinking it would be pretty cool to have a trophy passed around over the years to the winners and have their names (pseudonyms) engraved on plaques.  I'm thinking 1st place gets the "Golden Barolo"?  I'm really interested to hear peoples thoughts on this, so please let me know below.

4.Scoring:  Since I'm not quite sure if anyone is super into fantasy football or not, I just wanted to make sure if people were ok with the scoring system that ESPN had on default.  I copied and pasted it here.  If anyone has any recommendations of changes, let me know.

5.Draft Time:  This is flexible.  I still don't know my schedule for work and I'm sure everyone has to figure out what times they are available as well.  I went ahead and set the draft time for Saturday, August 12th @ 5 PM EST or 2 PM PDT.  Let me know what day/time will work for people and we'll figure out a time everyone can dedicate at least 2 hours or so to drafting players.

More ideas to make this better will be well received.  Please post in this thread if you will like to participate and state how much you are willing to put in the pot (1 xmr?).  After you post on here, you can also include your email you want me to send an invite link too, or you could just PM it to me.  From there you can sign up, join the league, and I will put your name below:

1st annual Monero Fantasy Football League participants:

1. phishead (The Smelly Gentlemen)  1 XMR payment: Paid!
2. Jwinterm (Team monerobux1 XMR payment: Paid!
3. Hueristic (Outta My Mind Commited Retard)1 XMR payment: Paid!
4. want0sell 1 XMR payment (0.5): Didn't pay Sad
5. LennyCarl (Team Carl)1 XMR payment: Paid!
6. lt8877 (Techmo Bowlers)1 XMR payment: Paid!

And the 2017 winner is...

Jwinterm

Here's how to play:

Once, you have sent 1 XMR to the "Monero Fantasy Football League" wallet, post your transaction hash here so everyone can be able to verify it in this thread and I will update you to the list as well as send you a PM with your email address and I will send you a personal invite to the league's Yahoo page.

This is a WINNER TAKE ALL event.  But, when it comes down to the championship game, the two people who are playing can negotiate a deal if they want too.  Like for example, the two people in the championship don't want to risk losing everything since they've gotten so far.  So the two people talk to each other and negotiate a deal that the person who wins gets 75% of the pot and loser gets 25% of the pot.  That's how my fantasy league has always done it and think it's a pretty good system and interesting to see what the two people end up doing at the end.

Current Jackpot Is: 5 XMR

Maybe I should have my three Cryptonic graded seeing as yours did pretty well.

Yeah, now I'm genuienly curious what mine are. How much does it cost to get coins graded from them?

right now 32k.  Is it logical to take it?  Huh Huh

Sometimes the most logical thing to do in altcoin markets is to be illogical.

Long time no post on this board.

Trying to restore an old wallet for a friend of of mine that neglected to ever update the daemon as updates were released.  The version of monerod is so old it used the original 24 word mnemonic seed instead of the 25 word seed.    I have run the monero-wallet-cli --restore-deterministic-wallet  command and named the new wallet but when I put in the 24 word  mnemonic seed to restore I get:

Error: Electrum-style word list failed verification.

I do have her old .key & .address files from the old wallet but that is all I have besides the 24 seed words.

So anyone know how to restore from such an old mnemonic seed?

I think there is a way to restore the wallet from using her private spend and view keys (?)... is that what you mean when you say you have her old .keys files on hand?

Good to see you back btw.

Edit: I think the command is something with --restore-private-key or something like that.
1368  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [AEON] Aeon Speculation on: June 10, 2017, 02:16:34 AM
Is cryptonote invented by the same developers who created Bytecoin? I do not know the full history of cryptonote and it would be nice to be given some URLs of articles about its story and how it came to be. Thank you.

Also, what are the updates on Surae's concerns?

Would be very interested to hear cAPSLOCK & phishead's thoughts on this.

To be honest I don't know much in terms of cryptonote history/bytecoin history. I'm assuming the links provided above is all there really is to know about the topic. As for Surae, I'm sure he's still reachable on #monero or #monero-dev on freenode.

AEON Fish species:

0.)  Leviathan                      (100 000+ XMR)
1.)  Whale                             (40 000+ XMR)
2.)  Pocketwhale                    (20 000+ XMR)
3.)  Dolphin                           (10 000+ XMR)
4.)  Shark                               (5 000+ XMR)
5.)  Black Marlin                      (2 000+ XMR)
6.)  Tuna                                 (1000+ XMR)
7.)  Norwegian Delicious Salmon (300+ XMR)
8.)  Gadidae                              (100+ XMR)
9.)  Atlantic mackerel                   (30+ XMR)
10.) Herring                                (10+ XMR)
11.) Goldfish                                 (1+ XMR)

Become a Tuna in Monero is quite costly nowadays, but to be an AEON Tuna is still quite affordable.  Levithans needs to sell their coins so everyone can afford them.

Tunahead doesn't really quite roll of the tongue as nicely... and Goldphish is at a lame 1-9.99 Aeon net worth... hmmmm..  Undecided

Ahhhhh, man!!  Cheesy

Ok, shit, looks like I'm gonna have to go dig up transaction history in my Polo account and see exactly WHEN that first purchase was...

Gotta prove it to you guys I guess... tough crowd!

Well I bought mine in 2004... B.C.!!!!!

1371  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [AEON] Aeon Speculation on: June 08, 2017, 03:41:01 AM
That is true. But why did Poloniex decide to list BCN and have not taken a look at Aeon? BCN was known for cheating the community for its mine and they have faked their timestamps by making it appear that it started mining on 2012. There was also a fake story about it being a secret currency used in the darknet.

Who are the developers of BCN now?

You know, this has always been a concern of mine... at the Monero NYC Meetup not too long ago, Surae brought up something that I have been wondering about now since then; and that is, if we got this new awesome crypto algorithm from Bytecoin that we are basing everything on and not Bitcoin's... then how much can we trust it?

That is a very rough paraphrase there, but that's what he was basically saying and he said he was going to look into it in his research at the Monero Research Lab.

I know this doesn't answer your question, lol... sorry. Just was curious if anyone knew any more about that?
1372  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency on: May 26, 2017, 01:47:43 PM
Where is to start with 'monero-wallet-cli'?
1. I have read the 'Getting started' guide and didn't found the answer to obvious questions.
2. I noticed the forum is spammed and abandoned.
Is that over now?
Thanx for suggestion, but I feel comfortable with cli tools (specifically, with 'zcash-cli' and bash). The question is about the lacking of documentation and death of the forum. It will never become mass-adopted with such approach. Who is going to make the change?

This thing is... is that It shouldn't be the responsibility of other people to do things that help mass-adoption.  If you like the technology and you feel that the information should be updated, maybe you should be the one to do it.  Everyone is equally responsible in open sourced projects.
1373  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency on: April 13, 2017, 04:44:10 AM
2) Would cash deposit be and easier way to receive/pay?  Is it like localbitcoins where you can send a cash deposit and take a picture to your receipt in case there was some sort of dispute?  If there is a dispute, who would you go present your case too, since it's a more 'decentralized' system in comparison to LBC?

I don't know how they handle cash deposits exactly, but bitsquare has arbiters who resolve disputes. When you send BTC on there you send it to a 2-of-3 multisig where both parties to the trade can agree to release the BTC to the buyer (in case of no dispute) but if they don't then the arbiter decides.

Quote
3) How do you set up a 'Monero account' on there?  It doesn't seem to let me create a wallet on there to send Monero.

You have to use your regular Monero wallet. Bitsquare's client only handles the BTC, not the other coins/fiat. Use the standard monero CLI (or GUI eventually). Do not use MyMonero or an exchange. You must be able to retrieve the tx-key to prove payment in case of dispute.

Oh ok, so who gets to be an arbiter?  Does it base off of someone who created the software to pick people, or is there a trust rating system on there or something?

And that makes sense about using your own Monero wallet, but what prevents you from using the GUI?  I use CLI but I'm just curious as to why.

Also, what method (if you have done more than a couple trades on there) would you suggest on using in terms of paying/receiving USD?
1374  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency on: April 13, 2017, 03:49:18 AM
So I'm really starting to get interested with trying out different exchanges and have been messing around with setting up bitsquare to use and wanted to see if some people here could help me out with some stuff.

1) clearxchange: has anyone been able to set this up?  To me this sounds like a real easiest way to set up an account that allows everyone to send money to and from, but no luck in being able to set it up.  For some reason I think through my bank it's saying that my email and phone number aren't "registered", even though I know they are.

3) How do you set up a 'Monero account' on there?  It doesn't seem to let me create a wallet on there to send Monero.

I really am hoping to start trying to do some trading on there (even though it's very little volume) and hoping as time goes on others will do the same.  It's about time for a decentralized way to purchase/cash out.

7 folks in the NCAA bracket challenge so 14 XMR to me.  Wallet address is:

433XT8hcut3gQR6kw5pPpSXivmw1m3PqA2nLHGLBX5RzbSynrRUZizPN5EW2kDDZAafZrQTsYZutxTF GQAryiiCgFgQhi71

Maybe next year XMR will be $50 and we all put in .5 or 1 XMR.  Its been a few years since I won a bracket.  We only had 7 in the group this year, had there been more I probably would not be collecting these funds as my predictions were all busted up from first round forward.

Yep, congrats! ... fun fact: last year's super bowl I lost $50 to jwinterm... that was 100 xmr. So if we keep that current trajectory we will be putting in .05-.1 xmr buy ins.

And the winner is...

Dr Higgins (aka "Fag Henderson")!!!

Please either post here or just pm jwinterm with the address you want your winnings to go too. Too bad everyone else's brackets sucks so hard that we can't have it be decided by the championship game, but whatevs...  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

All in all though, watching the games with some monerojes on the line has been quite enjoyable for me and hope everyone here has had an entertaining time as well. I will try to do something like this for every "major sporting event" like the super bowl or march madness... if anyone would like to do something like this for something else just let me or jwinterm know.

I had fun, and I mean this in the most sincere way...

Congratulations Faggot.

Strongly holding rank.7

Good news is that can only get better Tongue

Yeah no kidding, you are #3 in the projected/possible points category...

I think whoever has their team win the national championship pretty much wins Monero Madness. ... good news for you is that you are the only person who has Kansas picked, and they are playing pretty f'in good right now.
