Many bought at same time that was June 2014. My problem was i did not add much in 2015 and early 2016. If i would skip 2014 altogether and buy in 2015 i might celebrate now. But I am sure times for my celebration are still to come. Dreaming of a 6 figure XMR number and not calling yourself a Whale is not that realistic. Having 50000 XMR and even less you are considered as a strong Whale. I got in at the same time. Prices were somewhat inflated when I made my initial trade for XMR in 2014. Right after that was the attack suspected to be perpetrated by the BCN team. Then there was the BCX FUD. 2014 was a rough year for XMR.

I always maintained a simple definition: >10k = Dolphin. >100k = Whale. All arbitrary really. Anyway, I don't have > 50k any more.

Kinda funny, although I think there should be 1 more category: "minnow," for people like me who own >1 XMR. I sold most when we jumped from >10$ to like 50$ in a several month period and haven't really bought back in.

Ah, had to correct you - Mid-August 2104, in 2013 Monero didn't exist yet -
Whoops... yep, sorry my bad. Typo, or it was "August 13" post date and I saw the "13" and brain fart typed 2013 LOL Here's the post... https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1140006.msg12126890#msg12126890 I wrote that August 2015 actually but remember buying the XMR probably a couple months earlier, maybe May-June 2015? Or, actually now... shit, I can't even remember LOL. Maybe it was earlier, could've been 9-12 months before I actually WROTE anything online about it. Was Monero about 70 cents around then? When was Risto posting around BTCTalk promoting Monero and it was about 70 cents? Whenever that was, that's my entry point ... Anyway, can I still be in the old-timer's club? LOL

I would chip in 50XMR for a special fund - Monero exit scam fund for year 2022 - donations for Monero core dev members and contributors which would be used for them to enjoy life instead of just donating for development (work work ...). Those that made Monero project go this far (and beyond) could also use some donations for crates of finest Barolo wine, wasting everything on roulette table etc ...
I would back this. But probably not prudent to call it "Monero Exit Scam Fund". A lot of people who are involved in the community now will understand the reference. But a lot of newbies probably won't get it and will likely take it literally. Evidently there are people who take what Fluffypony says literally as they don't get his style of humour / trolling / sarcasm. Also, there would probably be a bunch of shills / trolls who would try and twist this to be "evidence of the Monero scam / long con...". Also, I thought the exit scam was 2023, can someone confirm?

Everyone who can read and write should be a Monero GoldFish now. But you are right I should work on sub 100 XMR Monero fish species a bit more. 0.) Cthulhu (200 000+ XMR) 1.) Leviathan (100 000+ XMR) 2.) Blue whale (60 000+ XMR) 3.) Orca (40 000+ XMR) 4.) Narwhal (20 000+ XMR) 5.) Dolphin (10 000+ XMR) 6.) Shark (5 000+ XMR) 7.) Black Marlin (2 000+ XMR) 8.) Ha ha, I just edited and added few more for lower ranks. and Catfish is in Monero Catfish should get you a nice retirement 5 years from now. You just need to avoid Sharks and those bigger and survive till then. Hide in a mud.

Tone Vays: https://twitter.com/ToneVays/status/872135937861484544He is an authority when comes to technical analysis and fundamentals... He says that majority of coins are s••t but has some respect to LTC and XMR.

Ooh an old timer's thread! I started out in crypto in May of 2013 mining LTC. After scrypt ASICs came out I started looking for somewhere else to go and ran across this article. It's an oldie but a goody: http://www.devtome.com/doku.php?id=a_massive_investigation_of_instamines_and_fastmines_for_the_top_alt_coins It was important to me to find a fairly launched coin with a future and monero fit the bill. Been mining XMR since June 2014. I made the mistake of going on vacation late last August with a monero sell order that I didn't think could possibly get filled. Of course it did so I lost a bit of my stash for much cheaper than I should have. I don't leave coins on the exchange anymore, but more recently I've been mining more profitable coins so I can dump them and buy monero. I've also got a few friends doing the same thing and have evangelizing a bit more. With the GUI and RingCT I feel like XMR is near-ready for prime time. I've been reading the monero threads everyday for years. Feel like I know most of you. I was here when Fluffy Pony was just a mortal. When TacoTime was a person and not a fast food chain. When TrueCryptonaire seemed reasonable. I even googled "Barolo" to see what all the fuss was about. This is a new handle because I forgot my old password and accidentally banned myself trying to get in today, but even with my old handle I only ever posted 2 or 3 times. I'm sure there are more like me that don't say much or anything at all.

I'm sure there are more like me that don't say much or anything at all. Cashed in all my LTC for XMR (or MRO as I think it started off) it started off 'expensive' in 2014 compared to the lows of 2015, so I just averaged down by buying the hell out of it at the 25c to 50c level. Even paid my son a few hundred in one of his wage packets instead of a couple of day's pay when he said he wanted to buy some. I had to call him up last week and ask him round for an intensive course in handling his own wallet and how to cash out via BTC and Stamp etc since it has become a fairly decent stash of cash for him. It was just parked on MyMonero, which I didn't want to be responsible for any more, or decide for him whether to cash in. Like a boss he said: 'No - I want to hodl it' When I look back at the sub 50c Monero he got then, it makes me smile. He had forgotten about them, he was totally bowled over. It's been quite a ride. Shame about losing so many in my boating accident of course, but I still have a few.

Oh, yeah... ha ha, you too? I forgot to mention that one time I'd stupidly taken all my flash drives and printed paper wallet pages out for the day sailing and -- wouldn't ya know it? -- everything blew overboard. Srsly sucked, but c'est la vie, at least since then I've slowly built up a little bit again, right? Really gotta try harder to remember NOT to do that again this summer next time I get invited out onto the lake for the day...
