Using a hardware wallet is the most secure option, no doubt about that. If your ETH is worth 100s or 1000s of $ it makes sense storing it in a hardware wallet like the Ledger. Ledger currently has a 30% discount for the Nano S so this would be a good time to buy if you decide to do so.
Using a paper wallet, like some users suggested, is also a good option but take into consideration that it makes very little sense to have a paper wallet if you are planning to move your assets back and forth for trading or acquiring other assets. Paper wallets should be used as an option for long term investments.

This post will help, thanks. I see a lot of 0 awarded merits and I am thinking of going through them one by one to check who is still active. @DdmrDdmr I was only thinking of active users who browse the forum on almost a daily basis. @hugeblack @DdmrDdmr was there talk about merits from inactive users being taken away from their accounts and sent proportionally to active users who award merits?

In Windows 10 you can password protect your hard drives, usb sticks and even sd cards with BitLocker which comes with the OS. Just right click on the drive and Turn BitLocker On. But I am not sure how that would work in a non Windows environment and would you be able to unlock the drive with your password outside of Windows.

DdmrDdmr I was wondering, and I hope you wont be mad that I am going a bit off topic, would it be possible to make a list of users who are holding the most sMerits and not distributing them? I dont mean users who have the most amount of Merits in total, but users who have the most amount of non distributed merits.
For example: User A has 150 sMerits, but he is distributing merits almost on a daily basis, so he would not be on the list. User B has 40 sMerits and in the last 6 months he has not sent a single merit to anyone although he is active on the Forum.
It would be interesting to know because I believe that there are still many people thinking that if they send a merit to someone they will automatically have one less themselves. Might be an interesting research to find out why they are hodling their merits and why they feel that not a single post on the forum is worth meriting.

Excellent job and you took a lot of time making this thread the way it is. Users like the one above shouldn't be allowed to do any translations, as they take the tasks away from legitimate translators who devote their time on doing a proper job. Trofo from the Croatian section is one of those legitimate translators and there are quite a few who do excellent translations if I might add.

It is not only about gas, it is about the constant small and bigger price increases in food, electricity, healtcare etc. As one pensioner from France said in an interview a few days ago: I am here protesting against the government because after paying my bills, there is hardly anything left. I cant afford any luxuries because the money that is left can only be used for food and clothing.

I managed to grab the Ledger Nano S Black fro Ł40 in the recent "Black Friday" sales.
Sorry this is a bit off topic but it seems that depending on the geographical location the price was different when purchasing the Ledger Nano S. Some people had to pay €49 and others $49 and in your case you paid Ł40. Ł40 is about the same as $49 but €49 and $49 is not the same. Interesting.

Always used "common sense" while reading stuffs in the internet especially in the world of crypto.
Common Sense, yes, that is the main point here. When you open a MEW account, nowhere during the registration are you asked to enter an email address so how can MEW or another wallet know your email and send you a LEGIT airdrop - Common Sense.

@OP If someone says he will go first then he should just go first. If the condition of him going first is that you need to click on some weird link, download a file, extension, attachment - stay away from that - report it and be safe. You don t need to do any of that in order to get a payment sent to you.
Why don t you want to say who the user is who talked to you over telegram? What is his profile here on the forums and can you prove it is him contacting you via telegram, any PMs with his telegram id sent or other proof?
Also regarding your 2nd post for the Paypal scam. Financial institutions like your Bank or Paypal state your Full Name in their email correspondence! The first sentence in the email usually goes: Dear Name Surname,
If it starts with Dear user, Dear Sir/Madam, Dear John - it is usually fake!

It seems this was a clear case of a user trying to copy/paste someone else's work and get some credit for it. Because, Franco columbo has managed to get 3 merits from the answer he provided in the post i quoted above. After getting his merits he deleted all his posts. But I took a screenshot of his answer which you can see below and which he later deleted. This was before he received his merits and deleted his posts. On his profile you can see that he has no posts anymore but on the picture below he had 15 > https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=2488946

There was some talk about this in the past, here is a thread from last year. I'm pretty sure it was never meant to work without txindex in the first place; this only works now because of how unspent outputs are managed, which may change in the future. You must use txindex for getrawtransaction to work in all cases.
You can also have a look at this thread from last year also, https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2053559.0

Only one group of their developers decided to leave. They have at least 3-4 other groups of developers and for the time being they are going nowhere.
