Not sure I correctly get what you are trying to ask especially on the part of sending "some f.e. BTC" Please try to make the question much more direct and clear.

Are you trying to make a hardware wallet using a pen drive?
Try out these guides, Maybe it could help on any answer you are searching for.

That's not how a hardware wallet works. Installing your wallet in your pen drive won't do anything for your coin's security.

The main advantages of most (if not all) main hardware wallets (such as Nano S and Trezor) is that your private-keys are isolated in that small piece of hardware. This means that whenever you connect the hardware wallet to your computer, there is not a single thing/software/virus in your computer that may sniff the private-key out of the device. You send the transaction information (amount, to which address you want to send) to the hardware device, and the transaction is signed there - with the private key - and sent back to your computer to be broadcasted.

If you just store your coins in a pen drive, whenever you connect it into your computer, the pen drive will be "mounted" in your computer, which means that it can be accessible by every process in your computer (thus, any virus can steal your coins/private-keys).

Ok thank you guys Smiley

Hey. Hope you got your answer as TryNinja answered your question well.

I suggest grabbing a Ledger Nano S[1] hardware wallet as soon as possible if you're planning on pulling the trigger. They have a 30% off holiday special right now so I suggest you grab one soon if you want to save a few dollars. Trust me. It's worth it.

You actually can create your own by installing an OS to a flash drive and booting from it. Tails has Electrum built in IIRC. You can also try a persistent Linux flavor of your choice. You need to make sure it stays offline to use it as a de facto hardware wallet though, which means you'll be transferring files back and forth to an online computer. That's not dangerous in itself, but you'd have to take extra precautions, and it's obviously a lot less convenient than actual hardware wallets.

Also, some malware targets the firmware of memory sticks and pen drives, so even if you delete the information or format the drive, then the malware will still be there.  Angry <Example : BadUSB>

You can save your backup wallet.dat file on a memory stick, but do not store your passphrase for that wallet on there too. Some people will even save their paper wallet <private key> in encrypted form on the memory stick, but I think that must be a bad idea.

Just save up for a decent hardware wallet and know your BTC will be safe. <In my opinion the Nano S is the best>

I managed to grab the Ledger Nano S Black fro £40 in the recent "Black Friday" sales. I am so glad I done so now knowing that I have that layer of security for the vast majority of my Crypto funds. I think they are still running a Winter sale on the Nano S which means you can grab it for 63 GBP. I highly recommend it as the last thing you want is to have your private keys stolen through a DIY pen drive wallet.

A Trezor is another highly praised hardware wallet aswell you could look into. Although, I have no personal experience using one so I couldn't tell you how it compares to the Nano S.

The cheapest hardware wallet maybe Afin Key, this wallet is like a Credit card. That price is only $60 but if you buy it with afin wallet, this cost is only $30 . You can check it here https://wallet.afincoin.io

No matter what wallet you have, even a paper wallet, if you don't store it properly, it's just a waste of time and resources. I know many who have lost their seed list and they cannot recover their wallets.

If you are willing to risk your bitcoins/coins you can try store it on a USB drive, but I would do it myself.
I have Trezor and I'm quite happy with it. Everything is save.

Sorry this is a bit off topic but it seems that depending on the geographical location the price was different when purchasing the Ledger Nano S. Some people had to pay €49 and others $49 and in your case you paid £40. £40 is about the same as $49 but €49 and $49 is not the same. Interesting.

I paid £41 exactly for it on the 23rd November. I’m not sure how that compares to what it was on offer in Dollars or Euros but I seen that it was a lot cheaper than usual and seized the oppertunity to pick it up. Was sceptical at first when it was around the £90-100 range but seen good feedback and the Black Friday was too much to resist Smiley

HONESTLY, after reading other people's posts here, I would much rather to go with Trezor or Ledger. Those wallets have backup word-phrase that allows you to recover your lost/damaged/stolen wallet. Just my 2 cents!

Your best bet is trying to pick up a Ledger or Trezor during sale time, I guess Black Friday/Cyber Monday was the last chance but I would not be surprised if there were some deals come the Christmas/New Year, be sure to look out for them.

I have a friend who created his own hardware wallet via Linux, I wouldn't be well versed enough to explain the in's and out's but it was done more so as a pet project rather than to actually use, as mentioned in this thread, there are many more precautions that need to be taken.

There already is a Christmas deal.

The Ledger Nano S is currently 30% off: https://www.ledger.com/products/ledger-nano-s

There is nothing for the Trezor, but they may do something in their 5th birthday tomorrow or later at Christmas day itself.

The difference in the price is because of value added tax VAT, which is different and it differs from country to country. In UK standard VAT is 20% for most goods and services. Although on the official website of Ledger shipping is stated as free, some users use resellers, and I am not sure they offer free shipping.

When you're looking for hardware wallet, price shouldn't be main aspect to choose hardware wallet. You need to choose by features of wallet, quality of it and user reviews. And I can say that prices in market of hardware wallets are very similar - you have to spend $80-100 to buy hardware wallet. Now I would recommend to take Ledger Nano S, because there is Christmas discount 30%, and it only costs $70. Another popular choice is Trezor wallet
There is one less popular wallet for $100 - it's CoolWallet S. And one cheap wallet for $50 - Archos Safe T-mini. But I suggest to go with most popular options - maybe you will spend few bucks more, but you will have top notch product trusted by millions users.
The cheapest hardware wallet maybe Afin Key, this wallet is like a Credit card. That price is only $60 but if you buy it with afin wallet, this cost is only $30 . You can check it here https://wallet.afincoin.io
It's first time when I hear name of this wallet. It seems that this wallet is new in market and I can't find any reviews in market. I'm not saying that it's something wrong with this wallet, but I don't recommend to buy it now. We need to wait until they will establish in market and we will be sure that's a good product.

Hi guys, my question may be very silly, but i really need to know  Cry
I want to ask if i instal some wallet on pendrive send there some f.e. BTC will i get very cheap hardware wallet ?  Huh
Did anybody try that ?
If you attach that pendrive to some random PC that is infected, it will steal your bitcoins (if not encrypted). If encrypted it will wait to you provide password to send bitcoins and then steal it.
Hardware wallets have additional layer of security out there Wink this is main difference from pendrive.

Honestly a ledger or trezor is not expensive at all and really worth the money.
