1381  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: btc and traditional banks on: October 28, 2016, 09:45:58 AM
I may not still trust them but that doesn't mean I won't use them , sometimes there is no alternative as not everyone is familiar with Bitcoin and crypto currencies , so I don't think It's possible to get rid of banks yet , my savings will remain in BTC and  I only use the banking system when I have to (like sending funds to someone outside the country etc..)
1382  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Core 0.13.1 Released on: October 28, 2016, 08:30:31 AM
If I got this right , this Segregated witness soft fork is implemented but will only be activated in 15th November ?
No. That's the signaling start day. Activation will likely happen in December or later.

That does that mean for lightweight wallets btw ?
Nothing special.

IIRC Bitcoin Core 0.13.0 or 0.12.x added HD wallet feature , If I want to upgrade now , should I take the wallet.dat I have and make a backup of it or that wouldn't do much as the wallet became HD ?
If you have a SD wallet, it will remain SD. Only wallets created using version 0.13.0 or later are HD.

It's going to create a new wallet even If I add the old backup of wallet.dat in the appdata folder ?

I have problem with my Bitcoin Core, both 0.13.0 and 0.13.1. After 34 weeks processing blocks on disk I'm getting fatal error again and again. It says I have to look into debug.log but cannot find it.

It's in the same path of your wallet.dat C:\Users\admin\AppData\Roaming\Bitcoin where admin is your username

1384  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Stash Launches ‘Bank In A Box’ Bitcoin Full Node on: October 27, 2016, 05:51:24 PM
This is really interesting ! I still don't understand how It's going to support any blockchain size in the future , there must be some kind of limits ? price is expensive too but It's the ideal tool for those who wants to support the Bitcoin network without having to use their PC resources

First 21 adopters; 1 per household = 1.000 BTC

1385  Other / Archival / Re: Which one is more risky? Skill-based gambling or trading? on: October 27, 2016, 05:09:02 PM
Both are considered risky to me but definitely not at the same level (gambling is way more risky). In gambling , It doesn't really matter how skilled you are because you will lose (maybe not the first time or the second but you will eventually and that's the case for every gambling game , require skills or not). In trading however , as long as you use your brain and invest in coins that have a true value (not simply a clone of another coin with no real purpose or value) like MAID , Synereo etc... . Take Bitcoin for example, someone can't lie , there is some manipulation sometimes but does that manipulation screw Bitcoin ? It doesn't because there is a lot of users, because a lot of services accepts it and use it for a purpose so It's a matter of time to recover from big whales dumping or pumping .

Try my network out http://btcads.org Smiley

I already asked OP to add it : https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1108616.msg16668072#msg16668072 when you first made your thread but he seems be to be inactive these days. I have to admit though , the stats looks little bit fake (Total impressions compared to the publishers and advertisers).
1387  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: how many fees should i pay for 0.2 btc transaction? on: October 27, 2016, 03:12:21 PM
Paying 0.00015 BTC (~0.10$) should be more then enough to get your transaction confirmed. Usually , the wallet (most of them) put the recommended fees without you change anything.
1388  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Possibly Scammed by oksana28 for 3 BTC on: October 27, 2016, 02:30:32 PM
Mods don't give emails or IP addresses (they don't even have access to IP , only admins do as far as I know) and also don't ban scammers , a DefaultTrust member should leave him a negative trust so he can't trade with other people In case he comes back.

ICONOMI'S ICO is now finished I suppose so If he didn't withdraw his funds yet , you could contact https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=888936 and explain the situation for him (link him to this thread) and hopefully , he could give you that account since the username is visible.
1389  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Auction, escrow website, similar to localbitcoins for BitcoinTalk Accounts. on: October 27, 2016, 12:42:49 PM
Like the title says, I think it'd be useful to develop an escrow website, so people can safely sell their bitcointalk accounts using bitcoins.

Tell me what you think, would you require this?

It won't be a bad idea If you keep it decentralized like Localbitcoins , there should be a reputation/trust system on the website where you could leave either a positive or negative feedback. At first , you should bring some escrows from the forums then after some time the reputation system should set escrows based on their transactions history.
1390  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Running Electrum through the WINDOWS command prompt on: October 27, 2016, 10:28:46 AM
According to this post from 2013 It seems like Electrum had Command lines available for Windows but got disabled after sometime so It's only available for Mac & Linux right now. Just to make sure , I tried too and It didn't work either.

that is an old thread so i don't think its relevant today.

try "electrum.exe help" just in case that does it.

I tried that (my wallet has the version in the name) and It didn't work , I also tried to launch it from the path like this ‪C:\Users\admin\Desktop\electrum-2.5.4.exe help and It didn't work either , have you tried it your self at least?

No I haven't tried it since I don't use Windows myself. Sorry if I led you on a wild goose chase. That was not my intention. I just found it difficult to believe that there would be a CLI on linux and mac versions and not on the far more widely used Windows version.

BTW wouldn't the electrum .exe file be somewhere in program files? that is where programs are installed in Windows right? Also 2.5.4 is very old. You should install the latest 2.7.11 version.

It's not in program files because I took the Standalone version and not the Windows installer , so I only have the executable (of 25 MB) on my Desktop and the other files (generated by the executable) on the AppData folder and yes the program files is where  the programs should be. I didn't upgrade because I was afraid I screw things up as I'm not sure how to upgrade without using the seed (If that's even possible)
1391  Economy / Speculation / Re: Is the best investment holding your Bitcoin? on: October 27, 2016, 09:25:57 AM
I would like to say hello first off, I am new to these forums as a member, but I do often enjoy browsing on my lunch break.

I see a lot of people like to invest in other coins in particular IPO/ICO. But with the volatility of Bitcoin is this not the best investment choice in itself? Keeping your Bitcoins which have a higher value and can fluctuate more? Especially with the recent halving, I can only see the value going up.

Do you see any need to invest elsewhere or is it greedy? What are your thoughts on this?

Holding could definitely work but don't expect to make profit between one night and another , It's for the long term , the more you buy , the more profit you will make when It rise , so keep buying and holding in the same time. Investing in ICOs & IPOs wouldn't hurt either, just make sure to make some research and not invest anywhere , most of the time price become x2 or x3 (the lowest) after ICO so making profit shouldn't be hard , once you earn , sell again and get BTC instead.
1392  Other / Politics & Society / Russia unveils 'Satan 2' missile on: October 27, 2016, 08:50:25 AM
A Russian missile design company has unveiled the first image of a new weapon in Russia's arsenal: the Sarmat intercontinental ballistic missile, nicknamed "Satan 2."

The RS-28 Sarmat rocket "is capable of wiping out parts of the earth the size of Texas or France," Russian state news outlet Sputnik reported in May.

1394  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Cheapest exchange(s) to borrow/long bitcoin on: October 26, 2016, 11:06:42 AM
Title pretty much self-explanatory.

I'm looking for the cheapest exchanges to borrow and go long bitcoin.
The funds don't have to withdrawable.

Thanks in advance!

I'm confused , are you looking for an exchange or a Lending platform ? If it's for lending then BTCJam and Loanbase are probably the most known and used - If you want an exchange then It depends on the payment methods (Coinbase,Circle If fiat) , Poloniex/Bittrex (If alts coins)
1395  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Starting to mine on: October 26, 2016, 10:14:04 AM
Electricity here is like 0.05$ (for low power) . In our country , you could pay for high power or low power (low is mostly what everyone uses at home) and high is for schools , companies etc... (price is not the same)

I was thinking about buying the latest mining equipment available in the market (which I assume is S9) but I'm not sure how much It costs (I guess I can simply google for that) and how much power It will take , and how much should I run to make a decent profit.

P.S : there is a possibility that I will work for the company that provide us with gas + electricity (which means I will have some privilege like having either free electricity or like 50% off for the price above).

If you will electricity cost's 50% than it is very good and cheap but I think profit will be also like 50/50, if not than great deal.
If you don't care about noisy than you can buy latest antminer s9. Yes, you can google for it's costs but I'll tell you here because I answer your question.
Antminer S9 has 13TH/s hashrate and it's price on bitmain's official website is 1550 USD (it's batch 17 and that's why it has 13 th/s).
https://enshop.bitmain.com/market.htm?name=S9 <--- Here You can see specifications of this antminer.

It's more expensive then what I thought, do you have an idea about how much of those should I run before being able to make decent profit monthly ? I remember seeing a calculator for all this stuff but I can't find it anymore.
I still don't understand how mining farms are making profit while normal people can't since It's the same hardware ?

1398  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What's the safe way to buy btc or do anything productive in the marketplace? on: October 25, 2016, 06:06:34 PM
It's always better to trade virtually instead of meeting face to face as your privacy is not protected and things could go wrong (like really go wrong). If you will be accepting PayPal as a payment method then you shouldn't find a problem finding a Bitcoin seller since there is a lot of trusted members, If you are the one sending PayPal , then people may find it hard to trust you (as you are a newbie, it's nothing personal).
It's still possible to buy through Virwox (It's a trusted and legit service that accept PayPal) otherwise just head here https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=53.0 and do what I told you above.

P.S : I wouldn't trade with users that are ranked less then Hero member (and always check the trust history) and use escrow .

1400  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin recovering ? on: October 24, 2016, 03:45:32 PM
Do you think bitcoin is going to reach june rates soon ?

I don't remember how much It was back in June but Bitcoin is increasing slowly with stability (that's what we need at the moment instead of a pump-dump) and with the halving that happened in last July , It should be just a matter of time till It reach 1000$ , If not more.
