141  Economy / Economics / FBI seizes Silk Road. BTC backbone broken. on: October 02, 2013, 06:49:30 PM
If you didn't know already. This will help you understand why BTC price is gonna crash for days now. Where do you think BTC will settle at now?

"Federal agents have shut down the underground Silk Road, a website used by dealers to buy and sell illegal drugs using virtual currency, and arrested a Texas man who they say operated the site.

FBI agents arrested Ross Ulbricht, allegedly known as "Dread Pirate Roberts" and "DPR," Tuesday in San Francisco. Ulbricht appeared in court briefly Wednesday morning, said Julie Bolcer, a spokeswoman for the U.S. Attorney in New York.

Ulbricht is charged in New York with narcotics trafficking, computer hacking, soliciting a murder-for-hire and money laundering, according to a complaint unsealed Wednesday. Court documents allege that Ulbricht owned and operated since January 2011 an underground website known as "Silk Road" that gave drug dealers around the world a platform to sell heroin, cocaine, LSD and methamphetamine.

Ulbricht allegedly asked a Silk Road user on March 29 to murder another user who was threatening to release the names of thousands of Silk Road users, court papers say.

"Ulbricht has been willing to pursue violent means to maintain his control of the website and the illegal proceeds it generates for him," court papers say.

Users of the site on Wednesday saw a banner announcement with the logos of the Justice Department, FBI, IRS, Homeland Security and Drug Enforcement Administration and a message: "This hidden site has been seized."

FBI Agent Christopher Tarbell in an affidavit called the Silk Road website a "sprawling black-market bazaar where illegal drugs and other illicit goods and services" are regularly bought and sold. In In 30 months, the FBI estimates the site generated $1.2 billion in sales and $80 million in commissions for the operator.

The website operated on an underground computer network known as "The Onion Router" or "Tor," a special network of computers around the world that use complicated algorithms to disguise the unique internet addresses of each computer. Communications set through computers on the network bounce through a series of encrypted relays to make it extraordinarily difficult to trace the origin of the message.

Website users conducted transactions using an anonymous form of digital currency called "Bitcoins."

"Silk Road has emerged as the most sophisticated and extensive criminal marketplace on the Internet today," Tarbell wrote. "The site has sought to make conducting illegal transactions on the Internet as easy and frictionless as shopping online at mainstream e-commerce websites."

Federal agents say Ulbricht, under the alias Dread Pirate Roberts, a reference to a character in "The Princess Bride," controlled every aspect of the site, including the programming, maintenance, customer service and the massive profits.

FBI and other federal agents first tapped into the site in November 2011 and have made more than 100 undercover purchases of controlled substances, including ecstasy, cocaine, heroin and LSD, on the network. The drugs came from vendors located in the United States and at least 10 other countries, court papers say. Agents also purchased hacking services, including malicious software such as password stealing programs, the court papers say.

The site included listings for "illegal drugs of nearly every variety," Tarbell said in court papers. As of Sept. 23, FBI agents counted nearly 13,000 listings for items such as marijuana, ecstasy, opioids, prescription drugs, heroin and cocaine. One seller advertised "high quality #4 heroin all rock," court papers say.

FBI agents also found 159 listings for computer hacking and other services, such as hit men for hire and stolen credit card information.

Federal investigators also gained access to the site's servers to conduct forensic analysis that could trace buyers, sellers and the operator, court papers said"

144  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: *SCRYPT FPGA* - CryptoIndustries.com - official Bitcointalk thread on: October 02, 2013, 02:41:32 AM
This is great news.

I would suggest that you make ask everyone to send you their emails so as soon as you are ready for launch, you can email all the potential buyers and have orders flowing in instantaneously.

That way no will miss out on the launch either.

I hope you make a new thread for second release.

And could you ask all the buyers to post some stats?
146  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: ★★★ [ANN][VLC] ValueCoin | The real valuable coin | Launched on: September 29, 2013, 04:06:22 AM
Cryptsy is not going to list VLC.

Ever.

Thats not true. It is on the list of coins to be listed. Its taking this long only because of the premine. But those premine coins have been diluted enough to not affect the price.

So now its being delayed by cryptsy for no apparent reason at all.

Thats great news man. I believe there is a similar thread in the BTC sub-forums too.

New and improved Earnings Calculator for all of my Group Buys.  CoiningSolutions.com/ec  Cool

*for share holders who purchased upgrade kits, simply double the profits shown

*rate is based off coinbase/bitstamp

Okay, so if i buy a few shares in this GB, would I be getting shares from the December delivery miners(the ones you have already ordered) or are you waiting for 36 more shares to be sold so that, you can place an order for January delivery?

Yeah sorry, i haven't read well.
Seems strange, i will check the code Asap to find if there's some error.
Sorry about that  Embarrassed

Awesome job man. But u should juice as many BTC from this bot as possible before other copies are sent. Once the copies are sent, you guys will be fighting with eachother.

Then someone will be losing for someone else to gain. The only assured winners will be cryptsy and the dev of this bot Wink

156  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: CoinTerra announces its first ASIC - Hash-Rate greater than 500 GH/s on: September 20, 2013, 04:59:51 PM
Cointerra, can't you just upload a video showing the miner hashing away at 1Ths or 2THs ? That would be enough to prove every hater, wrong.

Daser, no one that has designed any silicon that is waiting for their silicon to come back from the fab can show it work til it arrives back, which is 2-3 months after tape-out.  Thats the way it works, and so knc, hashfast and cointerra are in the same boat.  Knc's silicon is due back end of this month, hshfasts is due end of october/ early nov, and cointerras is due in december.

Until the time that they can show it working they can show you the design specs, or pictures what it might look like, their bios and proof that theyre experts... or some other evidence that they know what theyre doing, but this is the way silicon works.  You design it first, then you send it off for physical design to a specialist company, then you tape out, and wait 60-100 days while the fab makes it, mask by mask - almost a day for each mask - then you get your chips back and if you did everything correctly, they should work!

All cointerra can do til they get their chips back is try and convince us that they know what theyre doing.  If they could show working silicon, today, they would be selling it.  Its the same with everyone who has taken a pre-order... They just dont have their silicon back yet.

Thanks for clarifying it. Well i guess, we just have to wait it. And people are too suspicious about cointerra because the chip specs they released (500Ghs per chip at $3/Ghs) is too good to be true.
157  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Weird Problem With 7950s on: September 20, 2013, 04:57:16 PM
I have not really changed the drivers since day one. It worked perfectly for 2 months. So never felt like changing anything.

I am sure its not just cgminer, because sometimes it happens when i start playing call of duty too.

I have had the mobo replaced already. Got a new one from them and that too the latest rev version of it. So mobo is not at fault here.

It is not over-heating either. I have monitored temps each day and nothing abnormal.

it happens ONLY when the core clock changes to 960Mhz or 1000.. etc from 300Mhz.

If there was a way to keep 960Mhz as default core clock, then i think it could work fine.
158  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Weird Problem With 7950s on: September 20, 2013, 07:07:01 AM
Tried swapping the cards around and still i get the same problem.

Either the driver crashes (which it shouldnt) or the PSU screws up. Idk

Yes all are the exact same models. And the rig worked fine with all 3 for 2 months, its only now that its giving this problem.

I found one way to run 2 cards every stably. I plug in all 3 cards but i don't power the first one. I power only 2nd and 3rd. That way it keeps running for days with no problems.

But 1 card is being wasted this way.

Its something to do with the voltage i suppose because when the card in slot 1 boosts to 960Mhz core clock (draws more voltage).. it gets shut down.
