I'm curious why Primecoin was not included.  Can we expect to see it or other cryptocurrencies added in the future?

I know the contest is most likely over, but it would have been cool if Sam could have hooked up with Notch to do some kind of Minecraft tie in --- being they're both swedish and all..

You have tomo at 5.30 from what they said.

Really? Anyone got ideas?  A Graphic of Steve or a creeper would be sweet but I'm sure there's licensing issues..ummm...

The Other Swedish Minecraft

The Real Swedish Minecraft

I came, I saw, I mined

In the end, you know it's just blocks

Mine for the fun and education of it.
Buy BTC direct for the straight-up investment factor.
Give BTC as gift to others to spread the Word and increase General Acceptance.

Also, do your part to contribute to the network - and those little slivers of btc may one day be worth far more than you could imagine..

Oh god, what have I done?

Nice Wink   But why?

Gigawatt- can you go into detail about how linode handled things?  Did they just boot you without warning /communication?  Curious as I still have 8 cores running with them but have not had any disruption...yet.  Have immature blocks there that I should probably address before I lose them

Edit:  also did you consider myhosting ?  Can be cheaper than linode

Your countries own groupon for bitcoin, coinforest should have a nice deal on these in the next day or so...

See their blog for details

Can anyone tell me a simple way to figure out how many pages of posts deleting just TWO people from this entire thread would eliminate?   There are 232 pages now and predominately it seems to be two people but I would love to know just how much of the 232 pages they are actually responsible for.    If there was some simple tool to do that, I would like to use it on some other threads too.

Well we all know you are at least responsible for one useless posts (Two if you count forcing me to post this because of your worthless post)

I'll add a third.  This forum could use separate sub forums for each ASIC company (KNC, CoinTerra, etc).  This thread has about 5 or more topics brought up just making the whole thing a mess except for those of us following since the beginning.  I don't understand all these pious remarks towards new members looking for information - I can't blame them not wanting to wade through page after page of trivial posts offering little info -we've brought this on ourselves.
151  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [XPM] Automated yPool VPS Miner Setup Script (Beta) on: August 05, 2013, 06:22:12 AM
I just run via ssh in mac terminal and leave it running...seems to run for long periods of time but then sometimes I find I need to reissue ./start-mining command to get it to register shares on ypool and get the green checkmark to show up next to the worker...

Already wondering if its better to stick to solo mining..With one VPS, I would at least get 1 maybe 2 blocks a week..at this rate with pool mining, I'll be lucky if I generate 1 or 2 XPM in a week..
152  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [XPM] Automated yPool VPS Miner Setup Script (Beta) on: August 04, 2013, 06:53:32 PM
Just some more feedback - EC2 microinstances appear to barf on wine but not sure why.
153  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [XPM] Automated yPool VPS Miner Setup Script (Beta) on: August 04, 2013, 05:56:11 PM
Thanks for the script gigawatt!

Appears to be working well on my linode vps.  However, on my digital ocean vps, although the miner is running, ypool reports that it is not.  Will continue to play with things - in the meantime, thanks!

edit - one other question.  If I need to restart my vps or it crashes, what should be run to start the miner with option 2 scenario?  Obviously running ./miner puts me in an option 1 scenario.

Thanks

edit2: Nevermind - I'm an idiot:   ./start-miner

The ignore feature is nice - I just wish it also worked when people quote users you've ignored.  I keep thinking there are worthwhile posts only to come across this crap.

Where'd you guys get that chainsperday to show in mining info?   Don't think I've seen that before in hp8
156  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XPM] [ANN] Primecoin High Performance on: August 02, 2013, 06:40:52 PM
No tricks. 500 8-core opteron servers running mikhaels hp8.
I simply took the best scripts from this thread and used some recommendations from members.

500!

Self funded? Or do you work in a data centre Roll Eyes ?

Self funded.
How does one even set up 500 servers?  Just that task alone to order that many sounds massive.  And at $70/month for the cheapest dedicated 8core opteron...$35,000?I must be missing something somewhere.  Can you elaborate?

You build once and clone 499 times. Pretty simple actually.

Then you put a script on each server that makes it mine automatically.

I didn't get the 35K right away, I just took some of the money I was making while mining. I starting mining with 500 Amazon EC2 instances when diff was about 8, and then took the winnings to double down on dedicated servers with opteron processors (that perform about 20x better).

So Amazon practically financed my server farm.

I see..thanks!  So you're the reason XPM fell to .60 from 1.50 Wink

A bit disappointed that they're asking for the hosting $$$ up front. I thought it would be on a month-to-month basis. Anyone else disappointed?

Nope - doesn't bother me at all. It'll be painful for them to chase after people that don't pay their month to month hosting and then they have to be concerned about shutting off customers who just forgot to pay a bill.

I'm all for paying up front.

That could be remedied by not returning the miner to the customer until balance is paid in full, or implementing late fees and service disconnection. I don't think that's too difficult to do. If people are getting ROI, I don't see why customers wouldn't pay the monthly fee to continue to get even more ROI.

To me it looks like you pay a premium to start mining in September.  But unless BTC is $150 or higher, its just gonna kill profitability on these with the insane rate of difficulty...I guess so long as you're mining btc, you could just look at it as a deferred ROI if btc doesn't hit or exceed $150 for another 6 months..

If you order today, and then order hosting, you'd still be waiting in line until all orders before you - hosting or not - get shipped or put into hosting. So, it does not necessarily mean that you'll be able to cut the line and guarantee September mining start date. The only premium/time you save is the time it takes to ship/get through customs. Someone confirm?

Absolutely!
You get the miner based on when you ordered.
When you take hosting it means they put it online that day... the day your order comes from the factory... not 1 day sooner...
Well, actually when you paid your order! (although there are some exceptions to this)

Sorry - I was referring to those who preordered/paid and have the best possibility of making the highest return.  If you are in that position and DONT choose hosting, you could be forfeiting a substantial portion of your ROI, depending on the length of time it takes to receive the shipment - at least according to http://mining.thegenesisblock.com

Don't know if their 62% difficulty increase is realistic... maybe worst case scenario?

It's the change over the last 30 days. I don't know how any other number could be considered more realistic than what has happened in the last month.

Agree - looks really nasty if, like me, you ordered a Mercury you won't receive until October at best. But this is probably the most realistic calculator compared to say coinish which paints a rosey picture.  Really dependent on btc...push price to $150 and thinks look much more palatable.  At any rate, I hope to use this whole experience as evaluation to determine if I continue the mining journey with KnC in March w/ their 2nd gen stuff..
