here in Australia I think that government want taxes, but not sure how that will work.

Capital gains tax. It's basically just considered normal income, except you divide it by two if you've held the BTC for over a year.

So the tax on $1m will be about $250k or so.

Ignore all the graphs and drawings. They are totally useless and the people using them are delusional.

I agree. If someone makes a prediction which ends up being wrong, they just forget about it and it goes away. But as soon as they make one which by sheer luck is right, they jump up and down saying "I told you so! I know everything about Bitcoin!"

Besides... If you know for a fact what the price will do tomorrow, why the hell would you share your secret inside information with everyone else? You'd use it to your advantage to make a profit.

So, what's the story behind him? I read that he took a photo with someone elses Rolls Royce pretending it's his.

Is he actually a whale or is that a lie too?
144  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: November 29, 2013, 09:14:34 PM
Was that something to do with all the altcoins crashing? People getting out while they still can?
145  Economy / Speculation / Re: I'm a pig. Is it awfully wrong? on: November 29, 2013, 09:55:18 AM
If you can secure your life with 75% of your BTC I would do it.
What I mean with secure your life is
 - Buy a house so that it is 100% yours.
 - Have enough money/gold on hand so you can live your life like you've done but without having to work.

This way you have 25% BTC which will be you Lucky money.
Want to live bigger go to work all the money you earn is for fun Smiley

This is my plan. I'm never going to be rich enough to buy a $50m house and drive a supercar, but I think there's a good chance I'll be able to retire and live an average live off savings. Hopefully within a few years.
146  Economy / Speculation / Re: They already pre writing articles for tomorrow on: November 29, 2013, 09:43:30 AM
Very foolish and risky decision as a trader to buy on All Time High price! A crash always follows the high, now's the silence before the storm.

Yes, I agree. Those people who bought when the ATH first hit $1 are really stupid. I bet they all regret buying at an ATH.

...then cut it in half to make sure it's not gold-plated tungsten.

Beat me to it. This is why I'd never buy a precious metal, especially gold. How can you ever be sure it's real?

At this rate Gox is going to overtake Stamp. Overtake on the way down.
149  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: November 28, 2013, 12:01:06 PM
Yeah, let's just sit around twiddling our thumbs at $990, then as soon as it hits $1000 buy 1500 BTC. Wtf?
150  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: November 28, 2013, 11:45:10 AM
It amazes me that people with fiat can look at those 3500+ coins on Stamp and not see them as cheap. Especially with the other exchanges running away from them.

To be fair, the other exchanges (Gox and China) have historically been overpriced. China pretty much had their own crash just a couple of weeks back. Perhaps it's those which are expensive, not Stamp which is cheap.
151  Economy / Speculation / Re: $10,000 by 2016 very likely on: November 28, 2013, 11:32:20 AM
The way the market moves nowadays $10000 in 2014 doesn't seem impossible.
Imagine if a big name moves into Bitcoin, like Western Union or alike...

Considering we added $1000 to the price in just ONE MONTH, it's certainly possible to hit $10k next year. At the current rate of growth we could hit $14k by Dec 2014.

Extrapolating an exponential curve is pretty dangerous though.

Absolutely. Is it really an exponential curve though? I just zoomed out to a 12h chart and the November rally pretty much looks like a straight line on the linear chart.
152  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin $1100 on: November 28, 2013, 11:01:05 AM

Litecoin has also proven to be a shining star.

God the LTC charts are pissing me off. Every time I look at it I think "right, this is the top, now it crashes". But it doesn't. It just keeps going up.

Why didn't I throw all my BTC into LTC a week ago Sad Hindsight is a bitch.

Even right this second it's still flying up. Where does it stop?!

2040 is a long haul though. Really wonder how many people have the patience to sit through the innevitable crashes for the next 30 years.

Not me. What's the point in being rich if you're so old that you can't enjoy the money and are going to die soon?

Even if it keeps going up and up, I'll probably be out within 5 years.
155  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: November 28, 2013, 08:12:52 AM
They're well on the way to their old ATH (6900?)... Any Chinese who were smart and didn't panic sell will be back in the green soon. Their own mini April 2013 :p
156  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: November 28, 2013, 08:09:07 AM
And China just broke out over resistance. That was the biggest resistance point from here to ATH. The chart there is starting to look very bullish.

If they start to move, maybe Europe will get its ass in gear in a few hours.

Maybe something will happen on Thanksgiving after all.

I wasn't expecting that. China has pretty much been dead for well over a week then out of nowhere they smash straight through 6000. What happened?
157  Economy / Speculation / Re: When to think about selling? on: November 28, 2013, 08:05:56 AM
Never. Use them to buy the stuff you need directly. There are enough merchants by now and even more will come. So no need to exchange them yourself.

Merchants who, for the most part, sell useless gimmicks...

I can't buy groceries, or petrol, or pay rent with BTC. They're the only things I really care about, and they're all a looooong way off accepting BTC as payment.
158  Economy / Speculation / Re: Where do you see Bitcoin in 5 years? on: November 27, 2013, 09:18:18 PM

My .02BTC

Why does your sig link to a scam site?
159  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: November 27, 2013, 09:15:52 PM
Why aren't businesses adopting bitcoin payments like crazy? we really should start with this now. Amazon, get on with it. We have to make this sustainable and not reliable on the fragile human psychology.

Because its still actually shit as a simple currency. Check reddit story of guy who buys a burito and has to wait an hour for confirmations, ends up paying them fiat aswell just to get home.

Uh, 0-confirm transactions are just fine for small purchases. Vendors need to get on with the program.

Yep. 4-6 confirmations are what exchanges wait for when transferring millions of dollars. Who gives a shit when it's a $1 coffee?

Also, have there ever ACTUALLY been any successful double spends (by that I mean someone lost their money/product)? I hear that they're possible and all, but I've never heard of someone doing one.

Private jet, here I come...

I just woke up from a dream about my new mansion and Lamborghini parked out the front.

One day... Just need patience :p
