141  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] SpreadCoin on: August 15, 2014, 01:39:07 AM
I just remembered that before the last wallet update, when i had the old wallet open, i saw a message(in the wallet) about the new wallet and the hardfork at block 2200.

Is this message feature something that only spreadcoin has, or other coins have it as well?

Im sure they can do it with other wallets , but its the only time I have seen it in a wallet!! maybe its a first i dont know but it is handy!!

That's what i was thinking too!

Mr. Spread: can you elaborate a little bit more on this feature please?
This is general feature in many Bitcoin forks. It is used in rare cases when serious vulnerability is found and before a hardfork so you probably won't see it often. Some devs maybe are to lazy to use it.

And I wonder if Dev got his 1BTC from that guy that was saying there was missing bits of the code??
No. My address is still empty - https://blockchain.info/address/1MSL9Ph2RCUnpekpuf6Rofb4kUo1nArsnS

Seriously? disappeared... and even pulling my last active date? You know... I'm not even upset that I 'lost' this bet, but assuming I disappeared because I wasn't active for a couple of days is silly; if I didn't know any better, I'd think you're trying to piss me off. Surely you took a peek at my post history... I don't post here everyday; I have a life. Actually, I never log out so it should look as if I'm logged in 24/7. The only time I log in is when I have to restart my system or the site goes down. I need to fix that anyways.

But all aside - I have no problem paying up; I keep my word. I'm just curious to know why all the instruction provided by members (on this forum, github and others) all point to the main.cpp for the pchmessagestart value. No one has ever hinted that it's listed in a protocol file; this has me wondering whether there's any significance.

Anyhoo, your choice... you can start a new thread that you won the bet and I owe you (frankly, knowing this tidbit is worth a coin; I've asked several devs for it... most had no clue what the hell I was talking about) or we can use this thread for your payments. Yeah, I'm gonna pay you, but I'll be damned if I'm going to assist with funding your endeavor; I still don't have much confidence in the success of this coin. On the other hand, if you were an established member, they would've been in your wallet shortly after I logged on today.

Well hopefully she (thats what here profile says anyway) will keep her end of the bargain up!!

And when you get sometime would like to have a chat with you maybe on a IRC channel or something , I know real world can be busy , but like I was saying , I see a massive potential here and want to have a chat, when your available!!

And she (yes, I am) most certainly will. And what difference does it make whether I'm a female or not in this situation? You took the time to view my profile, so I wouldn't doubt you skimmed my previous posts. What, not used to a girl not begging for coins here?

Sorry - took me a lil bit to figure out how to upload pics Smiley
There's your problem, right there.

One easy way to check is to have a Linux VM handy (Vagrant, VMWare or VirtualBox) and then you can check very simply with:

Code:
$ grep -n -r pchMessageStart spreadcoin

At the very least, the output should cue a degree of circumspection and help you be less precipitate precipitative in your wagers.

Cheers

Graham

Hope you don't mind me correcting your comment... makes a little bit more sense now. Big words don't scare me.

Evidently you assume I downloaded the files? But since you seem to know what my problem is... why not scurry over to the thread where I'm offering a bounty to anyone who can help me recover my wallet.dat files. Hell, at least it'll save me from having to buy coins to pay this here bounty - yeah, I keep my word. And not sure what you think my problem is... other forums you're allowed to upload pics; my problem was with finding a site to host the pics.

Sorry - took me a lil bit to figure out how to upload pics Smiley  but I see you've already left. Does that mean you're going to pay up?

Here's spreadcoin main.cpp with it's missing pchMessageStart hex code:

Here's what's supposed to be in the file:

As you're a dev... you know this is the magic set of numbers that identifies the coin's network. I'll be happy to post proof for you, but you can consult Google. Oh, these values are located in a couple of places throughout the main.cpp file... well, supposed to be anyways, it was nowhere in your file.

You must've known that I lost quite a few coins a couple of weeks ago. this really made my day, thank you!

Mr. Spread, Please pay up the 1 BTC to this address:  https://blockchain.info/address/16BP6sHRx7y4MWDqSga4jw7316TKMUFaou

The hex values needed to identify the network is missing from the source code: SCAM COIN
I don't know what hex values are you talking about. Provided source code is enough to build your own wallet and it is the same code that is used to build Win and Mac wallets from OP. Anyone who has necessary skills can make gitian builds and bitwise compare them with provided binaries. So there is nothing missing from source code.

Didn't realize you were the dev...

So nothing missing from the source code, eh? Well then - it's pretty obvious you're not a dev, just a do-boy who handles this thread? You wanna put something done on your claim that nothing's missing from the code? I'm all game buddy - just say the word.
LOL, I'm dev. Unfortunately I don't have much, I can put just 1 btc on my claim.

Wow - thanks for the coin... I just snagged your main.cpp from git hub. Posting in just a sec Smiley
147  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: All my altcoin wallets are corrupt. on: August 12, 2014, 01:57:17 AM
Whoo hoo! Happy for you!!! Smiley

I actually lost all of my coins - I really did. I have no idea how to recover them from the hard drive. I tried keyhunter - that ran for about a day and I finally stopped it. And Photorec found 1mil+ files - but of course I have no idea if any of those are the wallet.dats because the file names are changed. Guess I'm just SOL. On a good note, I found an older version of website file so I spent the day rebuilding it. Still not back to where it was... but I'd rather that than having to start from scratch!

I feel your pain because I lost some coins like that. I gave up after the best part of a week trying to recover the files.

I'm hanging in there!!! I'm just glad I have my site somewhat functional. Now it's time for the grueling task of downloading new wallets... and setting up p2pools for those. Hell, I created a script to help me auto compile wallets and create files... it'll take me longer to rewrite than if I just do the deed of downloading again... what can ya do, ya kno!

Nice! Fabulous idea!!

Although I'd want to put a QR code with my address Tongue  is it possible to link a QR code to a website? Perhaps like a youtube vid that explains all about bitcoin? If the idea is to paste these all around the city to reach the mass, I just think it should be more informative - of course, this is just how I would use it Smiley

Of course you can use your own QR Code. Thats the point!
I thought about the link to an informative resource too but most people don't care about how it works. The only way to reach the masses is by showing them how easy it is

Well, you have a point there, lol. Oh my... I just had thought.

WTF happened? Damn it. Fuck that... I'm still going to hold on the ones I have... if I can recover my wallet.dat, that is.

The Hex value from my understanding is for building pools not wallets as it is a identifier for the pool to lock onto , but that my understanding , I could be wrong!!

No, you're correct. Which is why you see I was responding to someone who was asking about pools. Without those values... no can't do!

Wasn't there an app to mine LTC a couple of years ago?
There are a few apps which can mine Scrypt and SHA256. They aren't very efficient and I never get to submit a single share while my Phone overheated. Even with the best phone, you cannot surpass the hashrate of a normal desktop computer in terms of temperature and hashrates.

No shit - I mine... started mining well over a year ago. Was simply asking a question

Nothing in this world is free. I'd send it back to the originating address.

Well, let me rephrase that. I'd send a few bitcents back asking if it were a mistake. Because ya never know... maybe someone wanted to bless me.

159  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Suggestions to prevent scammers launch new shitcoins on: August 10, 2014, 10:04:59 PM

This is so disappointing. Do you have any solution to suggest about pool operators? It seems a good clue to add pool operators to that sentence in the OP.

It is, isn't it. I wish I had a solution but I don't. Unfortunately pools aren't allowed to advertise in ANN threads anymore, so there's really no way to know other than to check the source code for specific values. If they're missing, then you can only assume that the pools listed in the ANN post has some inside dealing with the coin dev; they couldn't bring their pool online otherwise.

I added your post to the OP, so other people express their suspicious experience with pools here.

Kewl hill of beans. Are you going to eventually put together a list of the exchanges/hashrate rental sites/pools suspected as being part of the scam coin ring? That's a good idea I think.

Certainly I will do that. Waiting for more cases to find, then I will add a list of suspicious/scammer exchanges/hashrate rental sites/pools to the OP.

I have a good idea on how to start this list. Shoot me a PM.
