141  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Is There Anything Fundamentally Wrong With EarthCoin? on: December 30, 2013, 05:33:33 AM
earthcoin transaction time is very fast , that is one of the major plus points for me.

How fast? Faster or slower than GeistGeld?

-MarkM-

I've seen them show up within a second in my wallet. It's actually quite amazing.

I don't imagine the Earthcoin team actually made any particular changes to the transaction code, but the speed of the network is excellent.

It doesn't follow the calendar (i.e doesn't fall on the last day of each month etc), each bonus is measured from the day of the launch.

Here is the code for it:

Code:
// Bonus zones
        int day = nHeight / 1440 + 1;
        if(day % 31 == 0)
        {
                nSubsidy *= 5;
        }
        else if(day % 14 == 0)
        {
                nSubsidy *= 2;
        }
        else if(day == 1)
        {
                nSubsidy *= 5;
        }
        else if(day == 2)
        {
                nSubsidy *= 3;
        }
        else if(day == 3)
        {
                nSubsidy *= 2;
        }

So 13 days after the launch day will be 2x payout, then 14 days after that etc.

WTF happened with the difficulty? It's been going straight up all day today over doubled since yesterday.

Did I miss some big news? I've got a healthy amount of EAC stockpiled  Grin

The big news is that the price went up 40% since yesterday Wink

Yeah all those random new accounts with useless comments are quite annoying

I've been having trouble on my server getting the earthcoin daemon to connect to the network.

I'm assuming this would be related to firewall, would this be what I need to add:

Code:
iptables -I INPUT -p tcp --dport 15677 -m state --state NEW -j ACCEPT

So far this is as far as I've gotten:

Code:
$ ./earthcoind getwork
error: {"code":-9,"message":"EarthCoin is not connected!"}

Is anyone able to help me with this? I'm looking to do a little development but haven't been able to get the daemon to connect to the network yet.

Does anyone know what I'd need to do to get it to connect?

This looks like it should be an interesting one. Hopefully it's a smooth launch!
152  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Tips For Launching a New Coin on: December 29, 2013, 02:10:31 AM
Honestly although this is good advice it doesn't matter anymore. People are jumping on every coin regardless of how horrible they are.

That certainly doesn't mean they'll be successful in the long term though. Most of them will fizzle after a short run.

We want to help guide someone to making a coin that will actually succeed.

Some typo's and grammar errors etc. but someone just did a pretty good article on EAC.

http://cointrader.org/what-is-earthcoin/

Lot's has happened, will post an official update later in the day or tomorrow. We're on coinmarketcap, picked up by coinex.pw, tagbond.com, lot's of press, games, more tools, device apps are on their way, our growth is stable and steady (THANK YOU for not spiking then killing it on the exchanges, books are still a lil' thin and one big pumper can really make it fly then reverse bad so keep momentum going).

Thank you, back to PM's.

That was a really good article. There seemed like a few typos towards the end, but for the overall quality of it I'm willing to forgive that.

Well done to whoever wrote it.

Earthcoin, your post about the premine was well said. You guys have been doing a great job so far and if you keep it up, it benefits you and everyone else so I'm quite optimistic Smiley
155  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Tips For Launching a New Coin on: December 28, 2013, 03:55:12 PM
I think this is well thought out and is the sort of thing that really needs to be strongly considered by anyone looking to launch a coin.

It's still amateur hour for most of these coins and it seems like there would be a very large amount of money to be made for an actual company to come in with developers, designers, PR and advertising and just blow all these other ones out of the water. As has been said, it doesn't have to be technical innovation, but it certainly needs to get people's attention.

The issue with a lot of the alts is that it's just one guy and "his developer" aka one guy that is around some of the time to make some quick and dodgy changes to the coin. How much work would it really be for a company to create a coin, launch it with windows, mac and linux clients and have a block explorer ready to go?

The current coins all seem like a case of 'lets put whatever we've got live now and deal with the rest later'.

One thing I've been thinking about recently is how you could have the fairest possible launch. As already mentioned in this thread: a pre-announcement and either zero premine or a small premine with a public ledger are certainly good starting points. On top of that though, most coin launches greatly benefit those who adopt in the first day, why not have a launch period where the block rewards start low and then ramp up to the full [regular] reward size over the course of a week or two.

This way those getting on board right at the start still get a decent head start, but they're not earning considerably more than they will be once the coin has settled into regular mining.

What do you guys think?

Yeah there's no need for workers since it isn't a pool. If they all have the same wallet.dat and you're solo mining on each of them, then when one of them happens to hit a new block, it'll be added to that wallet, whether you're mining on one machine or fifty.

I finally managed to compile Earthcoin on my debian server tonight (after hours of frustrated guesswork) and now that I've finally got it running I'm wondering how exactly I can interact with it.

Code:
$ ./earthcoind -daemon
EarthCoin server starting

Code:
$ ps aux | grep earthcoin
root     19919  4.4  0.5 158936 11624 ?        SLsl 21:13   0:00 ./earthcoind -daemon

Code:
$ earthcoind getblockcount
-bash: earthcoind: command not found

The first two blocks seem to show that it successfully started and is running, but the last one shows that "earthcoind" is an unrecognised command. How do I interact with the running daemon?

Edit: Nevermind, I solved it. I just needed to run it like this and it works fine while the daemon is running Cheesy

Code:
$ ./earthcoind getinfo

If your feeling really generous to get me started on my earth coin adventure you can donate to:

I like this coin   Cool Cool Cool

Go mine or buy some like the rest of us.

These spammers are annoying.

They sure are. Every thread is just a spam of addresses.

Is it unreasonable to ask that they be kept to the giveaway threads?
