141  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [UPDATED] KiwiCoin [X11][New Zealand Grown!][Active] Fast, Secure, 100% Kiwi ✦ on: June 10, 2014, 03:50:33 AM
Wikohika,

We decided to do a little research, and it seems you have no ties to the land or the historic artifacts on the land. The artifacts on the land can only be bought by New Zealand citizens and cannot leave the country.

The links you provided also date back 2 - 3 years ago and cannot seem to find anything new that would suggest otherwise.

So unfortunately we do not believe it would be a just cause to contribute/invest into.

We wish you luck on your future endeavours,

Regards,
Team at KiwiCoin

That was quite fast fact checking!
Nice work, nice to see some active dev involvement!

How do you feel about setting up a charity for taking donations or contributions to saving kiwis?
Any way of slotting in with this for example: http://www.kiwisforkiwi.org/ ?
They take donations, maybe someone from the team could contact them about accepting kiwicoin (and thus BTC.)
It might make news in New Zealand.
I have no vested interest. I only have 1 kiwi coin that I mined just to check if it works.

PRICE IS CREEPING UP NICE AND STEADY that is a good sign.
CLOAK will hit a 1 million marketcap real soon.

don't get left behind.

Don't get left behind at the bottom of the pump? Or at the top of the dump?

I waited long for the open beta sms wallet release, untill yesterday night. Yesterday night devs told me it would be ready within the hour, at least before the weekend ends. Since weekend ended in the entire world, and still there was nothing, i keep my promise; open fire.

Thats it.

No that's not it. Because you're acting like a spoilt demanding child everyone else's investment is put at risk.

For you the only person in this world that matters is yourself.

If people are speculating on promised features of an advertised coin then dev integrity is absolutely key.
VeriSMS sounds great and people invested. Now some feel scammed because things are not being delivered and the possibility that this has and will still be a scam (of which everyone in crypto has seen their fair share) comes a bit closer to reality.
That is why you are seeing negative posts.

Integrity is key if you want to build something in the long term.
It is better to say you can not do something and then deliver it later than it is to say you will do something and then you don't deliver.

A statement such as "open fire" is a clear intention to bring vericoin down and that would include the investors. I think a little more patience may go a long way towards protecting the interests of fellow investors. I agree with what you say but there are limits.

If you believe Vericoin dev will still deliver then you have nothing to fear and then no amount of fudding will kill this coin.
As soon as SMS works things will take off and keep growing and that will be good news for all cryptos.
Just ignore them or explain to them why you are not worried.
I have no stake in this, I only own 10 Vericoin.

I like the idea of Cloak and I didn't find a German translation link in the first post. So I decided to do it:

Did you mention in your German translation that the implication is that this is not a trust-less coin. You have to trust the dev for your anonymity as well as to keep the system going. Single point of failure. That seems a bit scary but maybe I am missing something.

So, after reading the whitepaper I realize that the anonymity of this coin is solely in the hands of the developer. Not only that, but the traffic of every transaction goes through a machine the developer owns. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

Lol.
That is hilarious.
Anonymous... except you have to trust one single point of potential absolute failure?
Peer to peer... except once again as long as single point of potential failure doesn't in fact fail (or belong to NSA or some other entity who might find this useful).

People are actually buying this? If anyone can tell me any reason except for "I want to make some money", please let me know!

N1 Volume  Grin

Nice Volume!
Again to 300BTC.
I like action Smiley

So I have 2 votes for: it's because of the volume and action which in my mind translates to:
we want to get rich and think we can con people with this as vehicle.
(Pump and dump is a ponzi tactic.)

Love it... Definitely a great set of new features in this wallet... it will take a while to find them all.
There's bound to be some great articles on SilkCoin to follow.

@Wulfcastle - Sent you a PM on MySilkcoin.com

This download is full of crap.  silk-coin-qt109.zip takes you to some lousy Media Fire based download manager, which chrome objects to and if you ignore that proceeds to install a bunch of bloatware on your browser,  and when all is said and done there's still no Silk coin wallet.

Have you guys lost your minds?   How about an FTP site instead, then we can skip all the browser tricks?
Sincerely.

it's a scam but people on here are either so caught up with the price rise to not see the obvious or they are part of the scam. Either way, they have been given warning, is it our fault they are dumb?

Are you sure you are posting in the right thread? I notice you are on scamusation crusade but think you might have your coins mixed up.
It can't be simpler to download the wallet: right click on wallet and choose save as?
151  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: target distance? on: June 09, 2014, 01:36:31 AM
New blocks will be mined at the edge of the accepted time, this will lead to many orphan blocks and network forks (probably short). Maybe more problems will arise, comparison with Bitcoin isn't applicable because in Bitcoin there is no reason for miners to set time to higher values and they just set it to current time and whole network accepts their blocks.

Blocks at the edge of accepted time will not be used by miners as base. Miners will be interested to mine starting from fastest blocks to be able to put their blocks in longer chain. Mining on already short chain pointing to the future is not practical. The same is with bitcoin now. The only real winning strategy is to use blocks who pointing to a moment in time which is closest to the genesis block among chains of the same length.

But the idea of a map enlargement looks also very interesting. This is very easy to implement right now and no need in such a deep analysis and looking for a pitfall. The map is not included into block and will not enlarge it. The size of a map will not affect emulation speed because collision detector needs to check only few closest blocks on every frame. And this solution will automatically kick off any map preselection cheaters. This is a very smooth way to go. Really. Lets remove the time threshold and let the map size be a subject for retarget.

I would be keen to see an experiment with this.

I have taken the liberty of proofreading and altering the grammar and spelling a little bit for one of the info sections in the wallet.
Minor things just to make it a bit easier to read.
There is also reference to stacking instead of staking. Capitalization is also made more consistent.
Please use or don't use as you please.

This is the original:

As you may already know, Silkcoin are generated via two different ways. One of them is mining with a computer or a machine generating Proof Of Work blocks, and the other one is staking : generating Proof Of Stake blocks with your coins.
Let me explain Proof Of Stake more in details..
Your coins have what we call coin-age they start gaining age if they stay still during 12 hours in your wallet, your stake weight is the cumulated coin age you have. Before those 12 hours, coins don't get old so you won't be able to hit a Stake Block.
Your coins always gain coin-age even if your wallet is closed. But to hit a Stake Block you need to have your wallet open.
To see how much time is needed to hit a stake block just hover the lightning icon in the wallet it will tell you the expected time. But beware, like POW blocks, POS blocks are a bit random so expected time may be lower or higher.
This is when your coin-age is important. The more cumulated coin-age you got, the more chances you have of hitting a stake block. Once you hit this block and gain interest, coins which have been used have their coin-age reset, are moved to stake and blocked for 350 blocks.
Interest is fixed at 2% per year, but since coin start gaining age 12 hours after with compound interest this percentage is much higher.
Some options available to handle day to day staking :
In settings->options you can set Reservebalance (it's the amount you don't want to stack)
In settings->options->display you can tick coin control, so you can control what coin you send (don't send old coins)
In settings you can unlock wallet for staking only if you encrypted it.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is the edit:

Silkcoins are generated via two different ways.
1. Mining: this is when your computer or machine generate "Proof of Work" (POW) blocks similar to Bitcoin.
2. Staking: this is when the coins in your wallet generate "Proof of Stake" (POS) blocks.

Let me explain "Proof Of Stake" in more detail:

Your coins have what we call coin-age.
They start gaining age if they stay in your wallet for 12 hours. Your stake weight is the accumulated age of the coins you have.
Before those 12 hours, coins don't get age so you won't be able to hit a Stake Block.
Your coins always gain coin-age even if your wallet is closed, but to hit a Stake Block you need to have your wallet open.
To see how much time is needed to hit a Stake Block just hover your cursor over the lightning icon in the wallet: it will tell you the expected time.
But beware, like POW blocks, the chance of hitting a POS block is a bit random so expected time may be lower or higher.

This is when your coin-age is important. The more accumulated coin-age you have, the higher the chance of hitting a Stake Block.
Once you hit this block and gain interest, coins that have been used have their coin-age reset: they are moved to "stake" and blocked (you can't use them) for 350 blocks.

Interest is fixed at 2% per year, but since coins start gaining age 12 hours after creation, with compound interest this percentage turns out to be much higher.

Some options available to handle day to day staking:

In settings->options you can set Reservebalance (it's the amount you don't want to stake)
In settings->options->display you can tick coin control, so you can control which coin you send (don't send old coins)
If you encrypted your wallet, you can unlock it in settings. There is an option to unlock only for the purpose of staking.

Lets see, current rate is 2000 satoshi each. 10x would be 20k satoshi each or 0.0002 each. That would put it in a marketcap of 3.5 million. It would rank 17th, just behind quark, vertcoin and XC. This doesn't seem unreasonable. But lets be conservative and say 5x, that would put us at $1.75 million. That would put us at 24th place, just behind Maxcoin, Megacoin and InfiniteCoin. I see Silkcoin to be more innovtive than these coins and a 5x increase seems very resonable. A 10x increase would completely depend on the eco-system and its real world utility which is still a complete unknown.

I am optimistic ofcourse that if the dev's follow through with their roadmap then we are going up in terms of bitcoin by multiples, the amount of multiples is anyones guess.

Now, we would go straight to the top 10 if the devs implement the marketplace which allows the free selling of anything. This alone would create a lot of buzz and media attention. People using blackmarkets in TOR would flock to the silkcoin marketplace. Actually I would love if their would be a community driven voting system where certain types of goods could be voted to be taken off the market. In other words the community decides what is allowed or not allowed to be sold on the marketplace. This would remove the developers responsibility to flag certain goods and put it into the communities hands.

Also think of the implications of just selling everyday goods on the marketplace instead of ebay, no more 10% fees per item and little to no more listing restrictions. A marketplace owned by all of us.

The OpenBazzar project (AKA darkmarket) has seen a lot of media attention and buzz already just imagine if the eco-system beats them too it, silkcoin would become a household name.

So when you say 10x is highly unlikely it should be rephrased to a "complete unknown", as you are just judging from your previous trade experiences. The reality is the market does not know or has decided what the value of silkcoin will be with these never before seen innovations.

(Note: I am a fan of Terrence Mckenna and a lot of his philosophy on certain mind altering substances, It is not as simple as "drugs are bad Mmmmkayyy", i'll just leave it at that)

Would it be possible to use the nonce patterns in identification of human played maps/blocks giving them priority?
Would it be possible to increase the complexity of the maps with higher nonce values?

If there is a way to force bots to emulate the way humans play, would that mean safety and survival of the coin?

I have enjoyed just about everything with this coin so far.
Thanks for the nonce graphics as well WilliamLie, very interesting.

I don't think there are bots at work. If there were, there would be block solve times of under 10 seconds, because a bot doesn't need to actually drive the path it calculates, it only needs to figure out the move sequence and then send it to the network.
Actually there is 3 seconds record there. See 13435-13436 at explorer.
http://moto-explorer.fvds.ru/block.php?block_hash=c3da209ef4ce39ae02d5902b83655255dd45f196808433533a3709b5f21d6c78
Yeah, and this block was solved one minute before previous: http://moto-explorer.fvds.ru/block.php?block_hash=b7168e3d33db75a388c20195c212bc2655090c9e05709d23fef028d0e5cd0262

Actually there is an hour difference isn't there? jumps from 20h to 21h and back.
Thanks for your explanation by the way WilliamLie.
160  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][MOTO] Motocoin | Proof-of-Play | First exclusively human-minable coin on: June 04, 2014, 07:41:25 AM
There is not a chance in hell that 14002 which took 4 seconds to solve but is a 21/22 seconds long map was driven by a human at 6x increased speed. Let's be real here.

And the link to 14001 is only there so you see how short 14002 was, not saying that 14001 must have been botted. Sure, the bot could get some unlucky bruteforce streaks and not get anything for a minute or so and a human may get luckier in that time. But overall - the picture is clear here.

14416 I think happened in less than 3 seconds so I now agree with you.
I really wasn't expecting this to happen so fast. Oh well.
Times in blocks are not precise. You can just set your system time to several minutes in past and you will be able to generate block in negative time. You can even find such blocks in block explorer, where next block was generated before previous, at least according to their times. In fact, it just means that these times can not be fully trusted.

Shhh WilliamLie2, I'm about to buy a shitload of MOTO on C-Cex!
