I'm pretty sure that NxT should not be the baseline we are comparing ourselves against  Smiley

Agreed.

I also wanna ask everyone to not freak out if for some reason NEM overtakes NXT on cmc. Don't go all shill and open btt threads about it and start trolling nxt threads or forums. How about we try to be better than that yeah ?

1. Noone gives a shit
2. They have good reason not to give a shit
3. If you give a shit - don't

142  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ethereum vs Lisk on: February 22, 2016, 06:17:21 PM
Lisk will crash and burn.

All the perfect infredients for a pump and dump

1.  Rushed development of unoriginal idea to get on ETH bandwagon
2.  Fork of unknown scamcoin
3.  Developer who asks on ethereum reddit for help understanding javascript
4.  Promoted through spam

That could be right, but as I see that Lisk supports JavaScript, I am pretty sure that most developers would get used to it and thus make it easier to use the Lisk platform. JS is very popular so it might give a good start to Lisk. By the way, ICO has just started but I will wait a few days to invest a little into it.  Grin

Fork of unknown scamcoin is complete bullshit. Haven't seen any spam either. Rushed development is also baseless. No idea about the questions on reddit.   Just another ethereum troll i see.
143  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ethereum vs Lisk on: February 22, 2016, 08:00:25 AM
I'm haven't invested in either of them - and don't intend to do so in the future - but I like ethereums approach better. Everything in a single chain imho makes sense for smart contracts. Having a sidechain for every single Dapp surely has it's advantages but i guess we'll have to see which one works better.
However if you're going to run sidechains and dedicated nodes for Dapps (which I understand is necessary, plz correct me If I'm wrong here) then why force Javascript down people's throats ? There are sandboxes out there that work with more than just one language (like whatever Ripple is using for it's Oracles).

I haven't looked into either of them closely though so maybe I shouldn't be posting at all Grin

Hi, I have a question, maybe someone can help me.
I registered a light wallet and put my XEM there. As far as I know I didn't make a private key. Actually I made a brain wallet as well. As far as I remember when signing up, I got a wallet address, but when trying to login, I have to put in a private key, so I don'rt come in.
When I choose for brainwallet and write down my nickname I get a wallet address that is different from the one where I put my coins, so this more or less convinces me that I didn't put them in the brainwallet. Earlier when I tried to login, things went smoothly. I just put in my password and I was in the wallet.
Anyone an idea what I do wrong?
Thanks for helping

Please explain step by step what you did. What did you click where and so on. It's hard to follow what exactly you were doing there.
I feel like you're also talking about the redemption process somewhere in there.
146  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [VNL] Vanillacoin, a quiet word of warning. on: February 20, 2016, 08:57:34 AM
So last post was months ago, and OP was much longer than that.  Is this coin still around?  I understand quite clearly that the drama is still around, though it seems to have diminished.  Where do coins go when they're dead?  I vaguely remember Vanillacoin but it's just another shitcoin to me.

Still around still being supported by the same people. This thread did not do anything to em.
147  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM (XEM) Official Thread - 100% New Code - Easy To Use APIs on: February 20, 2016, 06:46:45 AM
Send my coins from the Wallet to Poloniex without the message. Did never hear about the message you MUST get into the transfer.
What to do next, will the coins come back to the wallet?

Thanks a lot for the quick support Smiley

You need to contact Poloniex and they'll hopefully sort it out.

I hope that this coin becomes successful, and that I can be involved as an investor. With the regular stock market down the drain, I'm looking more and more to the crypto space for things to put my money into.

I also hope you'll have a slack channel for discussion. I really enjoy NEM's chat room. Both for on topic and random shit. ;-)

We are headed that way. Right now we are doing our best to prep. everything for an official announcement. SimpleIn has published parts of the site on the official domain, and he is still popularizing the links, soon to be ready Smiley

A chat will be set in place for sure, but we won't opt for slack, as it is limited to the number of team members subscribed. We will search for an more optimal solution for communication means, any ideas?

Sure about that ? The only limitation I've encountered is on integrations (i.e. bots) and even that one is more than high enough.

Double checked!

That is odd.. i do recall some sort of limitation, something like a restriction of free users per 1 payed user! Did they change their policy?

Maybe, I dunno. Right now this is what the FAQ states:

Quote
Yes, you can use Slack for free. You'll only be able to browse and search your team's 10,000 most recent messages, and you'll be limited to 5GB of file storage and 10 apps or custom integrations.

Hello.

I have noticed also some issues with NIS.

You can read more details here:
https://forum.nem.io/t/nis-crashed-log-message-included/1850/10?u=freigeist

Did anyone notice similar issues?!

Never saw this problem reported from anyone else. Higher loads during the initial sync are normal(ish) but just regular operation shouldn't be causing any problems like that.

Thanks!!! I managed to deposit to my wallet . But now when I try to start the local Harvast gives me this error "HARVESTING LOCAL ERROR 700 NIS HARVESTING ineligible".
Why ? I have 10000 Xem in my wallet . I have to configure something ? Thanks
You have to give it time upto 24 hours, First your balance will be moved to vested balance inside your xem wallet and you ll be able to harvest  Wink

up to 24 hours is incorrect. It completely depends on the balance. With 10k XEM in his account he'll have to wait a hell of a lot onger than 24hrs until he's eligible to harvest.
10% of your unvested balance are vested each day.
152  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Where is the Future on: February 16, 2016, 07:13:12 PM
The future of digital currency lies in how it fundamentally exists - Proof of work has its draw backs, as does proof of steak. Proof of chain can have a wide distribution reach, but it still depends on people making a few decisions initially. What is the best way for a crypto-currency to exist? I am a ClubCoin developer as as someone working in the industry, I don't think anything which exists now offers an optimal solution.
Thoughts? Shocked

proof of steak you say. sounds delicious!

154  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: NXT plus and negative on: February 16, 2016, 04:05:57 PM
I cant believe I am agreeing with you stout. But NXT is def in its death throes. It's best feature has been the AE, and now the community wants to kick those supporters in the balls by redesigning the system and crashing the AE. Thanks guys way to increase adoption.

Of course this is immediately right after kicking the third party developers in the balls.

tLDR,  supporting NXT will get you kicked in the balls

Seems like the fashion these days is to try and copy ethereum.  Nxt sell by date was 2014.  People moved on.

Well, as far as I know there's only one ETH copy. That's pretty far from fashion. BTW NXT is still far better than ETH, because of it's working and have a usable GUI Smiley. Also, with NXT you don't need a degree from programming and nuclear physics to make a transaction or create an asset Smiley.

Fud.

Nxt has such a tiny market cap it is useless for anything serious on this point alone

How do you explain the lack of progress in so many years?

Can you elaborate on crashing the AE and kicking 3rd party devs in the balls ? I must have missed something there.

Any news regarding additional companies from Japan or Asia, adopting the NEM-blockchain?
Would help to bring the market cap over 10 mio!

This one just came out 2 days ago and made national news in Japan.  http://news.mynavi.jp/news/2016/02/12/514/

I wish i could read Japanese, but i understand it must be big news!  Cheesy

Yeah...google needs to step up their japanese translations game.
156  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What is the first thing you look for in a new cryptocurrency? on: February 14, 2016, 10:05:28 AM
pre mine is a big no, but i don't care if it is POS or anything else as long as it can survive and its price goes up.

And if there is a premined coin with 1 millions users and growing faster than Bitcoin, then you are just going to let the train leave the station with you left behind because of your irrational bias?

Do you really think you can fork an inertia like that.

Could this bias be what prevents the very scenario you are talking about? I'm fairly certain there is a psychological term for it, but don't feel like looking it up when the example is right here.

I don't think so because speculators are followers not leaders. Adoption can lead speculation, not vice versa.

This assumes that everyone who is speculating is only thinking as (or for) speculators in their equation, some, if not most, might be using their own metrics for use to determine what to invest in--not a "what would someone else use" mindset, but a "what would I use" mindset. It is possible for people to be both user and speculator and simultaneously spur adoption and speculation.

But I don't think speculators make wise decisions as to how to invest for adoption, because they are not close enough to the technology and marketing. The creators are the leaders. That is why I have often said that I don't think open source can create/tap a new market.

I intend to prove that and say, "I told you so" to smooth, rpietila, and all the Monero crowd.

Open source is a refinement and shared investment in quality assurance mechanism, not a creative one.

My guess is you are talking about a coin that is premined, but doesn't suffer from the centralization of power that we've been raised to believe in the crypto universe is the enemy of all that is decentralized and good, correct? So now, if you invent it and that's the model you chose, you will have to convince early adopters that what they've been led to believe by everyone relevant in the community is not true for your coin, which is the exception to this "rule". I hope you see the chalenge you are building for yourself-- the early adopters are the ones who determine which turn the speculators take in the maze.

This, usually along with shoddy tech, is why premined coins can't get enough traction. You can educate, but ignoring the problem will only get you a bunch of stubborn speculators who can't see the limitations of their greed.

this sounds like you're saying mining doesn't lead to centralization which is complteely untrue. If centralization is your concern then you might as well go with a premine.

You're wasting your time here. You can't get people out of that mentality. If you could we wouldn't have so many shitcoins out there because noone would give a damn anymore.

I check if there are annoying shills on the forum trying to shove it down my throa and compare it to the amount of sensivle people talking positively about it. If that works out i might look at the project.
159  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM (XEM) Official Thread - 100% New Code - Easy To Use APIs on: February 12, 2016, 04:57:03 PM
Hi,
I am pretty new to NEM and kind of a computer noob. But I managed to setup a light wallet and transfered my XEM to the wallet. I guess, for the moment I am done, no backups or what so ever?
thanks

You have the private key put aside? You need to remember which node you are attached to, always. Otherwise the account can go "missing". Private key and account address are most important.

Depending on what you chose while setting up your account with the lightwallet the password you chose may also be enough.
I'd like to clarify though that you don't have to remember your node because that's where your wallet is stored. Your wallet is stored localy. You should remember the node because local storage works on a per-domain basis. That means different domains access different parts of your local storage. As long as you have your private key, address and or the password to your brainwallet you can re-create your wallet on every node though.
