141  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][EMC2] Einsteinium | Funding the Future With the Future of Currency on: March 26, 2014, 08:13:16 PM
Also I would like to note, we are still early in the coins life, there is going to be instability, ups and downs, etc. It's is something which is traded.
But it is also something which is a vehicle for helping to fund science. Something that we have already done. We will go through it all again next month. The more people we fund, the more scientists and organizations out there promoting us. We are on our first month, and we already have began to fulfill our foundation mission. Seriously...I am looking at the price, a little disappointed, but I feel absolutely incredible right now. This community is helping to fund a cancer research project just by mining, and voting. This is pretty unprecidented.

More news.
Walter Moss (The Scientist whose project won) has responded to me. He is thrilled to recieve the award.
He was actually promoting it on twitter.

There will be more updates soon!

Okay a couple of things. We are trying to get ahold of our winner. He was actually promoting the nomination on twitter, but he may be offline right now. It took him a couple of days to respond before.

If it is a little quiet it is because we are waiting to hear back from him.

This great coin price is way too low now, hope it get us somewhere in the end of this year.

There are people dumping, it is the usual thing with cryptos early on these days, people out to make a quick profit. This diminishes in time.
The coin is going to half in about a month, and then again two months after the first halving, so the well will begin to get a bit more dry. The epoch cycles are kind of critical.
I will keep buying though until I feel I cannot anymore.

calm before the storm

We will announce the winner soon.  Wink
I think people will be happy for the most part.
146  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][EMC2] Einsteinium | Funding the Future With the Future of Currency on: March 25, 2014, 02:27:34 AM
So which project did yall vote for?

I chose the cancer one for two reasons. The first being that to me it seems like research is more what we should be funding not education. The second being that we may be able to completely fund it.

Agree with the bolded 100 Percent

There will be more research projects in the coming months. On occasion an education project will creep up but probably not dominate the list again.  Also some type of scientific or medical technology like an energy project might appear. It ultimately depends on the nominations and the quality of the nominations, as well as timing.

Shortly after we announce the winner.

Can the code just be added in with an update? Is a hard fork necessary? (if these changes are put in place)

This would require a fork its a new set of algorithms.

I must be the only one here thankful for asics and not wishing anything but scrypt....

I agree with you. The network is having trouble as it sits now staying above 1Gh, eliminating those of of us like myself who do use scrypt asics to mine this will only further reduce it. I'm sure Devs will make the right decision, hopefully they also look at all options to solve the problem aside from changing the algo. I have enough emc2 saved up for long-term holding I will come out ok regardless if I can keep mining it. As opposed to a lot of other coins out there it is great to see the scientific value here.

There are a few reasons to switch. One I think is there is very much a perspective from average miners of difficulty to enter into mining with large scale ASICs. They tend to flood out those who are mining either via GPU or CPU. When one is trying to develop a broader community, and frankly market for a coin, the existence of large scale ASICs can in fact quickly kill this. When a critical point to longevity of a coin is building a strong community around a coin, having a barrier of entry which is accessible is critical. While there are still larger GPU farms out there, it does not necessarily match how quickly things can escalate with ASIC technology that pushes people out and away from participating directly. Introducing new people into the coin and community critical. Again what eventually happens is a small number of people end up dominating a coin with ASICs, largely those who can afford the high costs of large ASIC equipment. I am not sure introducing ASIC resistance would further reduce hash rates either, right now if anything there is movement towards the ASIC resistant coins. While it may move some ASIC miners off, it will also likely attract new miners as well, if anything the situation will likely be a wash, but possibly a gain.

In terms of network integrity, this is a big advantage with the x11 infrastructure, it has higher hash rates and lower power usage, without necessarily the problematic economics that large scale ASICs brings in. So you can end up having a better infrastructure, without necessarily pushing out smaller miners. That is why many are putting it forth as the preferred alternative.

In terms of the current hash rates, they have grown over the last two weeks, and this is not a pump and dump coin, so organic growth is generally beneficial. A rapid bump up to a high network hash rate that larger scale ASICs may bring in can be seen as unhealthy for the coins longevity, from both a market and community perspective. Bitcoin was not hurt by the ASICs, but smaller SHA coins early in their lifecycle were.

Right now the current generation scrypt ASICs do not present these issues, but the upcoming ones do present some significant problems. That is why it is necessary to discuss possibly forking the currency at some point, because these issues will eventually present themselves.

I will be honest, the more I find out about x11 personally, the more I like it.

Again, I am not speaking for the foundation in this. It's just my own opinion and analysis.

Just to let everyone know Lifeforce.info is experiencing technical issues and it may be some hours till we're back online again. We will be doing a juicy bonus when we return. Apologies for any inconvenience caused.
Hopefully it's back up soon.

Just so I let everybody know, the topic has come up within the foundation regarding whether to take on a new algorithm or not. We are always listening to the community and it's concerns. Nothing is decided on the matter though.

We are also moving up on cryptorush voting (number 6), so there may be a chance we get listed there in the next week. Looking at mintpal it is still a ways off, cryptorush can happen very soon.

WEBSITE STATUS: OFFLINE

Our website is currently down due to a database issue. Please be patient, it will be back online shortly.

 Huh

Damn, right when I was trying to get people to vote.

Ahh, well maybe I was wrong. I am just worried about multipools and quick-dumpers. Well, I still hope for the best! Smiley

You may want to look at KGW which was implemented from the start. Multipools are avoiding the coin because it is in place. You may want to look into it.
155  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][EMC2] Einsteinium | Funding the Future With the Future of Currency on: March 22, 2014, 03:20:25 AM
Spread the hash folks. Hashrapid is getting up there again, P2P is an option, as is the fact there are several other pools.

I would like to thank everybody for spreading the hash.

There is bandwagon effect that happens when people see the results. This is one of the better known phenomenon in the behavioral and social sciences, especially with regards to online polling and voting. So while the people voting are self selecting to participate, in order to reduce the bandwagon effect we are only going to show the results once voting has concluded. This is the best way to insure a scientific and fair result.  Wink

As profitable as our coin is right now, I would like the growth to sustain. This means we would love people to join our reddit community, and spread the word about the coin, and the monthly voting for funding awards for science and science education.
This coin contributes to a good cause, but to be effective for this cause we need to sustain a solid community around the coin. This is our coming out party right now, everything has gone smoothly so far.

Lets keep this going by building a community.
Do not be afraid to share a few coins either to encourage people.  Wink

So some first world problems, one of my GPUs is down so I cannot mine as much EMC2. I likely just need to do some tweaks.

Back up and running yet?

The miner is at home, I am at work. It will likely take a half hour of tweaking to get it just right again. I have to do this on occasion with my cards depending on the difficulty.
