I really hope Stunna can get that moneyback somehow. 1500 btc is like half a million dollars. Even though they make many btc this is a massive loss and a site like PD doesn't deserve the hit as they earn't that money fairly as opposed to scamming like so many other dicesites do.
We can contrast this against losses as well. I'm sure people have lost 1500 btc before, it all balances out mathematically.

Well I'm sure they're still in profit but that's irrelevant as it's still a massive and devastating theft for them. That could be half their money gone or even more, but I guess it's all apart of the nature of the business.
I could never take the stress of running a site like this. One day you could make a million dollars over night from a whale losing everything, and then the next you could lose 2 million from an extremely lucky person.

Same. I can't imagine the stress of running something like this especially with people just trying to rip you off and attack you constantly but I guess it's all part of the game. You never get anywhere in life without taking risks though, but with a house edge and the nature of gambling (the house always wins) their losses should be minor in comparison with the lucky winners but when you get hackers taking a massive chunk it could ruin you if you're not careful.

What are you all talking about. The perpetrator was able to withdraw only BTC40.

The one before that (Hufflepuff) withdrew a lot more than that. I think Stunna plans to explain what happened once they know they've got it all patched up or sorted (which I'm sure they have by now).
143  Other / Off-topic / Re: Hmmm, western union or bitcoin? on: November 21, 2014, 03:51:00 PM
Obviously there's a massive benefit to using bitcoin to send money around the world or even domestically, but you will still need to find someone to exchange the btc for cash so you need to factor that fee as well. What would be the easiest and cheapest way for a novice to sell their coins for cash with minimal fees?

Well you could try use Localbitcoins or even this site and for cash or bank transfer or whatever medium you wish for, but hopefully eventually there will be kiosks or shops that will give you cash for your coins. Maybe bitcoin will have its own Western Union but with cheaper fees etc.

That is pretty awesome.

But lets not forget, if you and your friend are trying to move USD, you will get fees from USD -> bitcoin.  And then get fees again from bitcoin -> USD.  So while moving the bitcoin is way better, the moving in and out of fiat sucks.  Still, with a company like Coinbase, that is only 1% each way and will still be way cheaper than Western Union.

And as we know in the future those fees will go down, and the need to move in and out of fiat will go down.  But really Bitcoin just isn't there yet.

Which fees? I don't think mining fees will go down but the opposite eventually.

There is to much conflicting information.

There was just a report like 2 weeks ago that said it made you dumber.

Depends what their agenda is. People who are pro-pot will spin it one way and people who are anti-will try it the other. There's a lot of misinformation from both sides and fear-mongering from the anti-camp. Cannabis isn't a magic medicine for everything, but it has it's uses. I don't think it cures cancer as some claim, but it definitely helps with the pain and sickness of chemo.

I'm pro-Cannabis even though I don't use it.  From a past life, I can say without a doubt that it definitely didn't increase my IQ, and learning was more of a struggle.  I do believe in it's medicinal properties, and as you've stated it's great for fighting pain and the sickness of chemo.

It obviously not going to increase your iq - I don't think any drugs can do that, but it may make you think more "existentially" or maybe make you think you're enlightened (which may or not be the case - see Vod lol), but I don't think it decreases your IQ either. Of course it can make you into a bit of a typical stoner but I also know lots of people who are the complete opposite to that. I guess it effects people differently. Carl Sagan was a notorious stoner and there are many celebs who seem to do pretty fine on it so it can't be all bad, but of course there are also the types that just sit on the couch and get baked and waist their life etc.

146  Other / Off-topic / Re: Would you sell your account for $$$? on: November 21, 2014, 02:30:34 PM
It's the only Legendary account on this forum that's for sale, I believe, for I've seen no others. Besides, Phinnaeus Gage has the highest post count. (EDIT: Just seen why you asked about the Legendary aspect, for my wording was slightly skewed)

BurtW has control of it, used as collateral for a loan, owing him $1,600 still. He would be ideal to use as escrow, whereupon I would be remitted the balance. I see no reason why the complete handover can't be accomplished with 24 hours, only predicated on BurtW being available, of which I have his phone number to call him if he hasn't been active of late. Rassah or Theymos would work as well for escrow.

There have been one or two Legendary's for sale but it's always hard to know whether they're legit sales or scammers. I think you could probably get a few btc for it given the account and feedback, but I wouldn't condone it. Why did you need that money anyway? Thought you had plenty of btc?
147  Economy / Economics / Re: "Market Manipulation" - how does it happen? on: November 21, 2014, 02:10:51 PM
The BTC price is a little frustrating.  I keep reading about "market manipulation" dragging it down.  How does that play out exactly?

There are many ways people can manipulate the price. Remember, bitcoins value is supply and demand so tinkering with the supply of them can effect the demand. Bitcoin isn't the only thing open to this manipulation though. I read recently the banks got caught manipulating currency prices and were find because of it.

http://www.reuters.com/article/2014/11/12/us-banks-forex-settlement-cftc-idUSKCN0IW0E520141112

I'm sure there's much more shady behaviour we don't even know about too.
148  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Where can one spend small amounts of bitcoin? on: November 21, 2014, 02:06:57 PM
Buy some promising altcoin and invest it, such as Dogecoins, Qora, Mintcoin etc. If you keep accumulating as much as possible, end up you will be suprised at how much you get and the increasing value of it.

Dogecoins are promising? You're probably more likely to lose money investing in crapcoins, especially once they get pumped and dumped and you're left holding the bag. I'd rather just hold the bitcoin no matter how little it is. I'm sure it will double or triple in value eventually.
149  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Payment Recieved scam on: November 21, 2014, 02:04:14 PM
You would think that if someone is going to send thousands of spam emails they'll at least check their spelling.

The biggest issue with this scam is that anyone stupid enough to fall for it likely doesn't have very much BTC. Kind of a waste of time to send thousands of emails just to phish a few guys with .05 BTC in their wallets.

Well the really smart ones will, but most of these scams tend to be from non-english speaking countries and thus have poor language skills. The thing is with these sorts of scams it doesn't take that much effort out to send mass emails and they might get lucky and catch a few big hits. At the end of the day itr's free money for them so anything is a bonus.

What help are you looking for exactly? And wouldn't this be better of in Project Development? You might get better help or interest in there.
151  Other / Off-topic / Re: Would you sell your account for $$$? on: November 21, 2014, 01:58:52 PM
Or, as a status symbol. That said, I'll sell the Phinnaeus Gage account, currently being used as collateral, for only 20BTC. It's the only Legendary account available on all of Bitcoinland. For only 30BTC, I'll throw in this account and all my others (~6 total) with the exception of CoinProLite that would only be used for its intended purpose not to be posting outside its dedicated threads, and Bitcoin 100, of which would be handed over to Rassah.

On top of that, I promise to not create any new accounts with the exception of one - <redacted for now, but would be disclosed> - that'll be CoinProLite, et al., related, again not posting outside dedicated threads in appropriate sections.

PM me (this account) if you're seriously interested.

~Bruno Kucinskas

What do you mean it's the only Legendary account? The only one for sale? What deal did you use your account as collateral for and when do you get it back?
152  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Payment Recieved scam on: November 21, 2014, 01:56:06 PM
I wonder how they got your email to start with.

It's very likely that they got it from another service you signed up and used your email address. If that service gets hacked or is compromised then they could have access to your email address. I believe the Feathercoin forum was hacked a while back and peoples emails may have been compromised, but this could happen to any forum especially if they're not careful.
153  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Who's brave/stupid enough to invest their life savings into Bitcoin? on: November 21, 2014, 01:53:24 PM
There is nothing wrong having part of your wealth in Bitcoin, and I do have. Any investment is risky, so saying keeping your life savings elsewhere is smarter is pretty ignorant

Of course there is nothing wrong with it, but most people would agree that putting all of your life savings into bitcoin is very risky and maybe even a silly risk, but obviously that is up to the individual on how much money they are willing to put into it. The risk could pay dividends of course, but the opposite is also true.
154  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Mozilla now accept BTC on: November 21, 2014, 01:46:18 PM
It will be interesting to see if they plan to incorporate any security features via the Bitcoin Blockchain.

I'm no expert but how could they do that? I keep hearing about all the different uses the blockchain can be used for but haven't really read anything that explains it simply. Is there any articles showing all the different possible uses of the blockchain technology?
155  Other / Off-topic / Re: Cloud mining service popping out like mushrooms on: November 21, 2014, 01:05:41 PM
A lot of these companies are sadly just operating ponzis under the guise of cloudmining, so you've got to do your research. If they can't provide sufficient evidence of mining hardware then they're a scam. You could still make money from them but remember they can go bust or scam you at any time.

There's a whole list here or legit and scammy cloud mining companies with people posting information about it: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=739510.0

For what it's worth, I'm buying hashing with Genesis Cloud Mining and I haven't had any problems with them.

How much do you pay and how much money do you make back? Ws wondering if it's worth it for me.

I would also prefer a fixed rate based on a minimum fixed amount of posts though it doesn't have to be the same as Gaw miners which seems to be the standard 'fixed rate' campaign. Maybe stunna could start a poll or discussion as to whether it should be a fixed or per post or even both. I also agree that there should be some quality control of who can join and participants should be limited to a minimum rank ie Full Member or Senior or something.
158  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2014-11-20] CD: Mozilla Now Accepting Bitcoin in Response to User Demand on: November 21, 2014, 11:56:33 AM
I wonder how many people will donate now...

Not many - Mozilla Foundation Donate page still doesn't show Bitcoin as an option for donating. There are only Visa and PayPal links.

Weird. It's a bit like that with wikipedia. The option to donate in bitcoins is really hard to find. It's like they almost don't want you to donate to them. Maybe they will make the bitcoin donation option more prominent shortly. I'd like to see bitcoin donations come rolling in as it is good press and other companies may take note.
159  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2014-11-13] CNN: One year on from peak price, what does the future hold? on: November 21, 2014, 11:53:56 AM

2014 was an amazing year for BTC but not for the "get rich quick trolls"  Cheesy
compared to december 2013 it is very quiet here in the forum. i like that. most new members dont understand BTC and dont want to take time for that . thats good for the tech-guys that stay and know what they are doing and investing.

I was merely a lurker in late Nov but it did seem very hectic around that time and I guess it was due to the excitement of the price rise and the influx of those newbs looking to get rich quick. Most have probably just left or jumped ship to the alt coin section trying to get rich there now.

The alt coin section consists almost entirely of those kids trying make a bit of money of pump and dumps. 99% of alts are trash and have absolutely no purpose other than to suck newbs in then the coin gets pumped and dumped and only the devs who premined the shit out of it win. Rinse and repeat.

I'm sure there's probably lots more studies that actually say the opposite too. Not sure I can take anything coming from a site called spiritscienceandmetaphysics.com seriously though as well  Grin.
