Power/cooling to handle up to 5W per FPGA
Not enough. Full-speed mining would require more than 8W per FPGA.

Also, it's at least 3 times more expensive than currently available Spartan-6 mining solutions.

I noticed this too.... its about $660 per spartan 6 there are cheaper solutions in the cards built just for mining

God I just wish i had the $ to play around with a huge fpga cluster..... Sad

lol yeah mine too

http://www.fpga-faq.com/FPGA_Boards.shtml

this site lists each pcie board as $7950.00

$7950.00 * 12 = $95,400

so i'd say the whole cluster is around $110,000
wow, I believe with 110K you could make a much more efficient mining rig

Maybe more hashes but not more efficient... FPGA's don't use as much power

each card with 12 fpga's is probably only running around 1800mh/s at 120 watts

while a gpu runs around 750 mh/s at 400 watts or 350mh/s for 200 watts

also theres no where near as much heat output on these cards compared to gpu's

so FPGA's are alot more efficient less money in power, more mh/s per watt, and less money in cooling

Has anyone seen these before?

http://www.dinigroup.com/new/DNBFC_S12_12_Cluster.php

Any idea on what one of these would cost?
each board has 12 spartan6 LX150's

http://www.dinigroup.com/product/data/DNBFC_S12_PCIe/images/DNBFC_S12_PCIe_blckv14.png

And 12 of these boards in a cluster

144 Spartan6 LX150 * 200 MH/s = 28.8 GH/s!!!!

146  Economy / Goods / Re: [SMOKERS] Introducing Cigs.eu - Buy Cheap Cigarettes with Bitcoins on: February 02, 2012, 08:23:04 AM
I am extremely dissatisfied, I get the smokes today, With an $84.50 UScustoms price tag on it.

Making the ciggaretts Just as expensive as if i were to have been going to my corner store each day for smokes, Thing is, Is that i was expecting to get some ciggaretts that i had already payed for, NOPE, Gotta pay 8x what i paid on the site for the postal worker to give them to me.

I plan on leaving the package at customs to fucking rot, I will not pay Eighty Four dollars, EXTRA, on 10packs of smokes, That is fucking horseshit

seems like you got unlucky and the customs sussed your package contained cigarettes.

Also how come there is US Customs tag on it if you live in Canada?
i have no freaking idea. It's a bloody sticker on the box (i only had a brief glance at the package because i did not have money to pay the fee) and i said on it US CUSTOMS NOTICE: and then alot of small text, and then $84.50 in bold writing at the bottom right of what appeard to be a recipt,

Then the postal worker handed me a notice (since i told her to take it away and hold it till i paid for it) wich stated "US DUTY FEE: CIGGARETTES $84.50"

Thats completely ridiculous.... uhhhh.... why is the US government trying to make a Canadian citizen  pay US tobacco taxes on something sent from Europe to Canada?

Out of curiosity, how well do these FPGA boards hold their value?

Beats me, but I would think their ability to retain value would be pegged according to the value/difficulty of bitcoins since they'd have little to no use for people besides mining?

With Radeon GPUs, you can sell it to someone for mining or to someone who intends to use it for gaming making it easier to sell and hold value.

FPGA's are actually very useful and can be used for many things other than mining but only for very smart people who build complicated circuit boards and do electrical engineering.... I'd say theres more gamers so it would be easier to sell a video card but I see FPGA's getting sold out all the time

still this doesnt mean that was illegal. also how did they new it was ecstasy? they did chemical analysis on the image? come on man....

i dont know if you are bullshiting but you should have been compensated at least if your story is true...

Nope I'm not bullshitting and I was never compensated anything... Also the cop that arrested me got fired shortly after for a very long list of corruption charges he was doing all kinds of fucked up shit to people... I'd say 75% of the cops around where I live are corrupt as fuck They plant evidence, charge people with crimes they didn't do, extort money from people, write tickets for things people didn't do, search people, cars, and houses Without warrants.... theres alot more fucked up shit that goes on than what happened to me I've seen people go to prison for years for things I know they didn't do.... thats why I stay low and away from the pigs

I was actually arrested for having pictures of some ecstasy pills on my camera.... the cop charged me for possession of paraphernalia. After 2 weeks I had my preliminary hearing and the judge said they had enough evidence to go on with a trial. After 2 1/2 months of sitting in jail I went to court and the judge just released me with no trial because I didn't actually do or have anything illegal... The point of this story is even if somethings legal you can still spend time for it.... I spent 2 1/2 months of my time on this earth locked in a cell 23 hours a day for something that was completely legal and I won't get that time back... The jailing system here in the US is a HUGE money making scheme this is why the US has more people in its jails than every other country in the world COMBINED!
152  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [DONE] Patch bitcoin v0.5.1rc2 to send a HTTP POST when a new block is accepted on: January 30, 2012, 01:57:51 AM
I wrote a php script that does something like this:

when a new block comes in check the database and see what the newest block is
if the database isn't caught up do a loop from the newest block in your database to the newest block in the bitcoin client
example:

Code:
for($i = $newest_database_block; $i <= $client_blockcount; $i++)
{
$checkhash = $bitcoin->getblockhash($i);
$block = $bitcoin->getblock($checkhash);
insert block data into database
}
the getblockhash rpc command will only give you hashes from blocks that are in the main chain

if the database is already caught up grab the last 10 blocks and do a loop in the loop check the hashes

example:

Code:
$result = mysql_query("SELECT * FROM `blocks` ORDER BY `id` DESC LIMIT 10");
while($row = mysql_fetch_array($result)) {
$checkblock = $row['id'];
$checkhash = $bitcoin->getblockhash($checkblock);
if($checkhash != $row['hash']){
                        $block = $bitcoin->getblock($checkhash);
                        delete old block and put new block in
                        }
                }

this should keep the database up to date and eliminate orphans and split chains

im surprised no one has mentioned http://bitmit.net  its a ebay of bitcoin

I'm sorry, but if that's the "eBay of Bitcoin", then Bitcoin is completely worthless.

Are you aware of how successful eBay is?

I agree with you actually I was working on a ebay/amazon type site for bitcoin but shit happens and I got distracted. Plus i wasn't too sure how popular it would actually be because most people just use a service like spendbitcoins to buy stuff from amazon and ebay and theres a much much larger choice of items than some site thats just starting off... one thing that a site like this has going for it is low seller fees ebay charges like 10% + listing fees and amazon charges around 10-25% fees depending on what category your item is in.

157  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Counterfeit money on Silk Road? on: January 27, 2012, 10:02:44 PM
From my perspective on interpreting the libertarian philosophy... contracts are sacred.

In an ideal world, two parties should be able to buy and sell whatever they want (as long as no other entities have their rights violated) without any interference from a third party (such as government).

To be fraudulent on a contract voids the contract and natural law would allow for self-defense of life and property by the injured party to obtain restitution.

Counterfeiting is fraudulent and natural law justifies self-defense.

However, if two parties were knowingly entering into a contract to exchange counterfeit money, then no one has be defrauded and no crime of nature committed (not counting man-made or bank-made laws).  Think of it as a form of artwork.  Its not until the counterfeit money is used to scam someone does it become a crime.  And a crime it is.

Just because the banks and government does it, doesn't make it any less of a crime for others to do it.

You can post bounty campaigns in the Project Development subforum or the Services section in the Marketplace subforum I just recently patched the bitcoin client for someone for 5 BTC in the project development subforum
