141  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Will GPU mining die soon because of ASICs invasion? on: April 22, 2013, 12:20:52 AM
GPUS will move to litecoin. Litecoin will become honestly valuable. Someone will build an ASIC for Litecoin, and gpu miners will have to find something else to mine.

I guess you don't know how memory intensive Litecoin is. The more hashes you have, the more memory you need. A 7970/7950 alone takes up 1.5-2 GB of memory. Imagine a 60 mhash ASIC hashing away.. The memory requirement is HORRENDOUS.
142  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Will GPU mining die soon because of ASICs invasion? on: April 21, 2013, 07:21:16 PM
If GPU miners all migrate to Litecoin then Litecoin will gain an even larger backing by the miners.

Essentially we will have a split between Bitcoin and Litecoin as the two major cryptocurrencies.

ASIC miners on bitcoin will make as much as the average GPU miner on litecoin, which practically renders ASICs as an equal to GPU. This means more miners will be likely to flock to Litecoin because building custom rigs that one can call their own is a more enjoyable hobby.
143  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: 490,000 Avalon chips already ordered - 150T hashrate spike coming in August on: April 21, 2013, 06:16:43 PM
These chips really aren't much more power efficient than FPGA. I'm afraid they will be obsolete by the time they get mounted on PCBs.

They are very power efficient given that the amount of hashes/joule is very good. No idea what you're thinking.
144  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: 490,000 Avalon chips already ordered - 150T hashrate spike coming in August on: April 21, 2013, 06:15:26 PM
Luckily there are a ton of other less mature currencies which will allow newcomers to enter the markets. I doubt mining will end. It will just shift from one Coin to another. (IMO)

Aka Litecoin? ASICs will not be happening for Litecoin for a LONG time. It already takes up 1.5 - 2 GB of memory for just around 500-600 khash.
145  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Rig for a friend .. opinions on: April 21, 2013, 04:00:38 AM
Pretty sure you need more than 2GB ram if you want to ltc mine, I'm not 100% sure so look it up.

Definitely get around 6-8 GB of RAM, it'll come in handy. My reaper applications run in at around 1.5 GB each so it takes quite a huge amount of memory for LITECOIN.

You should be able to make a good $329.17 per month at current difficulty and price.

However, for the $2400 price tag, your purchase is definitely not worth it. You have to account for both electric costs and the heat for AC, which will be quite significant (it will heat up an entire room pretty fast).

In the best case scenario you would break even in ~10 months, which would have been only 4-5 months if you had built a rig yourself.

In general, if you want to buy a PC, you must buy and build it yourself. Ever notice how expensive prebuilt desktops and laptops are? They are A LOT more expensive then they really are worth.

10 months is a while, but building it myself means I couldn't start for 2 months so that would mean 7 months from now vs 10. Then it also depends on what happens with Litecoins. Do they end up on MtGox? How much will that influence the rate that I break even? What will the difficulty be 2 months from now? .

Ultimately 10 months from now I'll probably have to buy a new, build or upgrade anyway or perhaps even before that.

That does not justify the $2400 price tag. It's basically the same as cutting your efficiency by 50%.
148  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Just started first Rig, How do I know it's working CG 470kh/s - Pool 14kh/s? on: April 16, 2013, 12:40:13 AM
Hi, sorry ahead of time for the dumb questions.  Here's where I am at.

Rig built, signed up for Pool (coinotron) made worker.
CGeasy - to create config (no OC)
CGminer running-  (showing 470kh/s appx)

So, I show connected to coinotron and to my worker.  I show a hash rate and several "detected new blocks"
Also there is one "best share" where it shows in notes "accepted XXXXXXXX Diff XXX/XXX GPU 0

Next, I log into coinotron website to see what it's showing there for the worker.  Now is my question.  Coinotron shows my worker at 0kh/s and no mining ever done?  How can I be connected to coinotron and my worker and have a best share with 0kh/s on the website?

Am I in fact mining correctly or do I still need something else?  Any help would be great, as I'm sure I'll have more; but trying to get what I can.

Thanks, Prot

EDIT: the website now shows me at 14kh/s Huh?  This seems more of a mystery now lol.  I DO note my connection has shown "interrupted" a couple times.

What coin are you mining? Seems REALLY low if it's bitcoin  Grin

150  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: Amagi Metals - Largest Selection of Gold & Silver for Bitcoins on: April 16, 2013, 12:09:16 AM
Will Amagi Metals ever incorporate Litecoin as a form of payment? I would gladly buy in Litecoin instead of Bitcoin since Litecoin is more resilient to price changes and has faster confirmation.

151  Economy / Speculation / Re: BITCOIN 75% OFF SALE!!! on: April 16, 2013, 12:01:35 AM
New cryptos coming out, LTC has almost doubled against BTC...

You may be lucky to ever see bitcoin above $100 again.

says the expert with 13 posts....

There's plenty of idiots with tons of posts too you know.
152  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What's your khash/s? (Pissing contest here) LTC on: April 15, 2013, 02:58:30 AM
Roughly 850 khash/s

Not much at the moment, I used to have 1.2 mhash/s but then the power supply blew and I never bothered. Will probably add the card to this current rig, don't know how I can fit them though.
153  Economy / Speculation / Re: Prediction for this coming week, BTC to $150 by Friday 19-04-2013 on: April 14, 2013, 10:13:04 PM
I'm looking to recoup my losses, so let's hope you're right.

Long run I see BTC going only up so I'm not worried at all. That and my losses only total $140.
154  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Difficulty after BFL on: April 14, 2013, 04:44:57 PM
It would be approximately an increase of 0 hashes/second because BFL will never ship.

Do a lot of people here have their Order Event Log stuck at "Quote for new transaction"?

That basically means your money did not go through.  Sad
156  Economy / Speculation / Re: bitstamp arbitrages on: April 10, 2013, 01:02:32 AM
Arbitrage works great if there is a sizable gap and the price is low. Unfortunately, the prices are rather HIGH right now and RISING which makes it hard to trade the volume needed to make a decent profit.

 Undecided

The huge backlog and lack of reserves that bitinstant has makes it hard to get your money fast enough to have the opportunity for an arbitrage.
157  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Building a rig (Hardware noob) on: April 09, 2013, 10:24:59 PM
7950s are the most efficient for mining litecoin.

The motherboard can definitely run both of them as it has two Pci-e slots.

ZipZap to Mt. Gox, stuck at "MTGox Order Loading".
...

Added to 4/8 support list.  Cheesy

I appreciated the prompt confirmation above, but I still haven't heard anything else since then about my issue.
Can you please tell me approximately how soon I should expect a further response?

Every situation is different and we are dealing with major back log so I can't provide any ETA.  Sorry.

Thanks for the great support! I just received my money into my MtGox account. All went smooth and now I just bought my coin.

How is the backlog doing? I hope you guys resolve all your issues. When this happens I will be a repeat customer  Smiley
159  Economy / Speculation / So when is it going to blow? on: April 09, 2013, 04:26:23 AM
Is the price really sustainable?

Eventually everyone will get scared and dump their load on the people who come in late  Cheesy
Price will go crashing down and the manipulators will have made their multimillion profits.

I sense a price peak soon.

If you are on this list then I have manually pushed your order thru.  You may see results soon.  Your tickets will remain open and they will still be escalated regardless.  Cheesy
