141  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [YouTube video] How to improve cooling on Antminer S1 on: February 03, 2014, 05:00:36 AM
Wow.  Much easier idea:

Plug the fan into a molex adapter off the power supply.  Problem solved.
142  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Best mining start up on: February 02, 2014, 12:35:09 AM

mining is too risky, the difficulty is soaring and the mining equipment you can get now may not roi.

Isn't it wonderful how bitcoin changes?  On DEC 18th I might have agreed with you.

Today we have 200GH ANTMINERS for 1.45BTC, so you can run the calculations with known variables (except perhaps the exact difficulty) and get a better idea than... oh XYZ preorder that will be perpetually "*2 more weeks"
143  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Who cares about the exchange vs electricity? Really? on: February 02, 2014, 12:30:19 AM
If your profit comes from the expected uprising bitcoin price, I guess it will be better to simply buy bitcoin directly.
If your friend didn't buy those gpus, and used part of his money to buy bitcoin in 2011, he would be a millionaire now Cheesy

Well duh.  But who says he isn't a millionaire?   (hint:  he kept plenty of coins to hit certain thresholds  Wink

If you can buy a device for 1.45 BTC and it returns 1.9+ BTC over the next 3 months USD/BTC becomes irrelevant...  (*cough* ANTMINER)
144  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Do you think BlackArrow is going to miss Feb-24 timeframe it had given ? on: February 01, 2014, 09:16:45 PM
Sorry to burst everyone's bubble but as a longtime GPU miner and Avalon Preorder owner, I've sworn off this preorder scam and am much happier as a result.  Think about it this way:

Avalon was 6months late.  Not a huge issue as they released ASICS first, but I still lost 40BTC on my Batch 3 preorder.  BFL 13months.

KnC got the "closest" to on time and was a bit over 1 month - but still "average joe" got their unit closer to 2months late as only the rare 1st day order made it out only a month late.

Hashfast is how late?  Cointerra is how late?  Btmine is how late?

So those of you thinking BA was going to hit FEB 24th... well it sucks but to estimate with their new date might even be too optimistic.  You need to start to plan for the worst case.  Even if they *start* shipping sometime in May, how far back are you in the order queue?

If anyone still has money to burn, but wants calculations with less variables and an actual chance at a profit, consider loading up on multiple 200GH Bitmain ANTMiners @ 1.45BTC each.  Sure $5800 only buys 1TH but you would have it in a little over a week.  As the network gets twice as hard every 40-45 days give or take that's like getting a 2TH preorder in March  Wink
145  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: WTB HashFast Unit on: February 01, 2014, 08:53:02 PM
BUMP.  Aww no takers?   Roll Eyes  You mean people don't want to part with their $5600 device for $3200?  Or they don't want to take the 50BTC initial investment and turn it into 4BTC now?

-->  PREORDERS ARE DEAD.
146  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: KNC Jupiter Sale on: February 01, 2014, 08:44:19 PM
ANTMiners are 1.45BTC for 200GH, so 4.35BTC for 600GH.   I'll eat the 36GH less and offer you a super deal @ 4.4BTC shipped UPS or FEDEX to USA.   You ship first or escrow via a trusted member here (+1 to DannyHamilton)
147  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Who cares about the exchange vs electricity? Really? on: January 31, 2014, 11:54:44 PM

OP waiting for his $50 bitcoins...

If you consider power usage a risk, sell coins ASAP to cover power usage and bank the rest.  Simple.

I'll put it this way, I have a buddy who had expensive power during the GPU mining rush in 2011.  (built over a dozen multi-gpu rigs)  He did the math the other day and figured out he paid out BTC during that time that would be worth more than half a million USD today!

So in that sense power is nominal.  I have cheap power and generally burn ~6KW mining which results in a couple hundred bucks a month of power costs.  It just comes down to how large can you scale it?
148  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: adverts for 180gh machines for 1.9BTC on: January 31, 2014, 11:41:18 PM
So you think BFL at $4300 for 230GH is a better deal?  Or $350 for 10GH?

If you do some searching, you will find those "1.9 BTC 180GH machines" are actually now 1.45BTC ($1160 @ $800/coin) AND actually do 200GH all day long overclocked (only draws 10% more power for 10% more hash, not bad)  ANTMINERs are the best "buy now, ship now, option".

So to get 3TH is now for $17K AND you get it shipped in a WEEK instead of... MAY?  Since the network is doubling every ~45 days give or take by most estimates, that means you would need a PREORDER that DELIVERS SIX TERRAHASH GUARANTEED in mid-march to match  THREE TERRAHASH of ANTMINERS today.

The problem you are missing in your calculations is thinking ANY preorder will deliver as promised right now.  KnC has been considered the most "on time" and they were a month late.  Where are all the big boxes now?  Remember we were supposed to have them before the end of 2013.  LOL

It is safe to say all preorders will be somewhere from 1-4 months most likely past their optimistic shipping dates.  KnC moved their Neptune out, Black Arrow just announced a month delay.  Cointerra hasn't even shipped yet, despite their claims.  BITMINE had December boxes that are "getting close".  Hashfast is finally shipping 400GH over 3 months late.

My ANTS will have themselves PAID OFF before a preorder placed today even arrives.  No one prices in a 30-day ROI - they would just mine with it themselves.  BUT 50-60 days is possible.

149  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: How many houses will burn down due to mining? on: January 31, 2014, 10:53:58 PM
I understand what this OP is saying.  I have 1 usb miner, 2 Jalapenos, 2 BF singles,  1 Linux PC, 1 Windows XP PC, 3 200 Gh/s Avalon Clones, 2 lcd monitors, 1 6 port 10/100 lan switch, 1 24 port 10/100 lan switch  this is all powered on 3 30 amp 110v circuits.  I have 2 more 200 gh/s Avalon clones to get running and these will require connecting to a fourth 30 amp 110v circuit.

Lets add your power draw at 110V:

Singles 280W each x2 = 560W = 5A
Avalon Clone 900W each x5 4500W = 41A
PCs/Switch/LCDs/etc - all combined less than 500W = 5A

AMPS = WATTS/VOLTS

200A at 220V is the same as 400A at 110V.

So you are telling me you need a whole new service ran because you plan to use around 50A out of 400A available?  Do you have a wattmeter?  (my estimates are based off killa-watt readings)

For what its worth I am running ~60A (3TH) of ANTMiners, Bitfury, and Avalons combined on 200A 400A (@ 110v) house service, with five 20A circuits added to the garage.  No problem man no need to worry about adding 15% load to my panel   Wink

150  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Just bought BFL jolly in store at Tiger Direct on: January 31, 2014, 09:47:56 PM
you paid $35/Ghash??

Because buying an ANTMiner for $1200 for 200GH is only for crazy people.  Like me - or anyone else that visits:

How did you guys get coupons?  I ordered a 1.9BTC unit...
152  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: FS: In-hand Mining hardware (BFL Chili, Antminer S1) + PSUs - USA ship on: January 31, 2014, 07:27:46 PM
Antminers are 1.45BTC now from BITMAIN direct.

Would you take 1.6?

They don't ship for a couple weeks.

Shipping FEB 8th if you order direct from BITMAIN.  I have yet to have them miss a shipping target (own a dozen ants) and they normally get to me UPS from China in 3-4 days.

So I should have them in-hand within the two week timeframe at minimum.  But yours could be shipped USPS Next Day Air, thus the 0.15 BTC extra in my offer   Wink
153  Economy / Computer hardware / WTB HashFast Unit on: January 31, 2014, 07:18:16 PM
Offering 4BTC for a BabyJet which is 1.1BTC over the cost of 400GH in ANTMiners  (shipped in a week).

If you think it is worth more, sorry but the market & difficulty prices these things and this offer is already 37% over ANT cost for same the same hashing power.

Thanks!

As for "what is this worth" those of you offering $20K are INSANE.  You could already be mining today with the same 1.6GH if you bought ANTMINERS last week for $12K.  (2000w power draw vs 3000w is not worth a price premium)

By the time a second-month Cointerra unit will ship prices will be HALF of what they are now.
To be fair you're quoting the overclocked hashrate for ant miners and they don't come with any power supplies, and 1000 watts a month does cost about 150 dollars or so in datacenter power.  I agree that Antminers were a good value though.  Anyways, cointerra will likely be able to squeeze out closer to 2thash with more firmware tuning and the unit out in the wild averages more like 1.7 so it's more like 9 Antminers than 8 units anyway even counting in overclocks. So about 17btc after you take power supplies into account.   You can't buy Antminers now for a month either though because of Chinese New Years so it's very unlikely you would get them sooner than a January or even February cointerra order so someone who prizes convenience and compactness as well as somewhat better power use could well prefer to pay a premium for a 4U unit that draws 2000 watts over 9 units requiring 3000.

It's a moot point though, you can't even buy those Antminers anymore

Fair enough.  It is a little bit of threadcrap.  But my dozen ANTs are completely stable at 200GH.  I get Corsair TX650 Power Supplies off eBay for $40 each.  Cointerra's speed will probably increase but they've already stated its a power issue not a chip issue so they may not hit 2TH ever...

You have a good point on the 4U box however.  ANTs aren't sexy.  I do have a plan to try to fit 2-3 ANTS in a 4u RackMount case, but thats only 400-600GH.

But the ANTMiner just dropped to 1.45BTC - so now its closer to $9500 with power supplies included.  AND they are shipping in a week (feb 8th) so that completely destroys the preorder market once again.
156  Economy / Auctions / Re: HF 5x BabyJets in hand NOW - 3 day auction, shipping included on: January 31, 2014, 06:49:31 PM
Guys if he wants 15 you aren't going to get very far offering 4-5BTC.

ANTMiners are now 1.45BTC shipped in a week.  So this is now worth under 3 BTC   Wink
157  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Official BITMINE CoinCraft series 28nm ASIC miners thread on: January 31, 2014, 06:46:18 PM
test on 50 btc?
5.12PH/s and under 7k shares? What is that, 6 milliseconds worth of mining?
I guess the other option would be for them to sit there hashing at 5PH for a couple hours, but that would cause an entirely different sort of backlash.
Assembled 5000 or more units to get to 5ph/s, in a day? And testing all at once? Would be nice, but I don't think so.

Yeah obviously a fluke/incorrect stat.  Like when I boot up a new ANT and for the first 5 seconds it reports 2TH   Wink

And who the HECK would still mine on 50BTC after they got "hacked" and funds went missing?
158  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: CoinTerra Update: Engineering and Production status on: January 31, 2014, 01:01:24 AM
200 gh/s for $1000?  I haven't been able to find anything close to that.  I'll have to keep looking.

159  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: {BFL} TigerDirect is making a BIG MISTAKE partnering up with Butterfly Labs! on: January 31, 2014, 12:16:20 AM
And most likely TD will have a steady stream of idiots who think they will see a positive roi buying the hardware.

See:  99% ASIC buyers thus far.

The reality is every preorder beyond Avalon Batch 1 has been a total LOSS from a BTC perspective.  All gains have been realized due to the 5000% BTC/USD or whatever growth rate.

So the sad part is many of these "idiots" buying BFL from TD might end up making money and seeing this as a huge windfall if BTC goes to $5-10K next year.  Of course then the rest of us are all along for the ride and I get to be a millionaire so hey let it happen   Wink

For those of you thinking I'm wrong, lets just take Hashfast for example:  50BTC purchase price.  "Market Value" of 400GH today?  ~5BTC.  Good way to lose 90%!  And no not even KnC was a good deal - it only looked good due to the increase!
160  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: [WTS] - [February Batch] Cointerra 2TH/s Mining Rig on: January 29, 2014, 06:35:12 PM
Newbie wants a 1BTC "good faith" deposit?

You can guarantee that will be $800 down the drain.

FYI look at the escrow options on this forum (I recommend DannyHamilton as he has been nothing but professional for me in transactions) if anything hold the 1BTC through him or something...
