say you have 1 electric circuit for your room at 120V @15Amp that's 1800W, less ligth and fridge and other, see what you have left ?

For the machine 85W for a minimum AMD cpu and mobo + the watts rating of your graphics cards.

say if nothing else, 2 rigs of 900W each so a CPU-MOBO and a few 7970 and a few fans.

for 25K$ you could fill you electric Watts allowance with ASIC LOL

144  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Calculating CPU need for GPU and by-question about underclocking on: April 07, 2013, 01:08:26 AM
Hey all!

Been reading up on these two:
https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Why_a_GPU_mines_faster_than_a_CPU

The simple answer is: You don't. You set affinity and run things per core.for sha256 mining you don't need CPU power
But is it possible to calculate this?

The thoughtprocess behind the idea is a server setup of multiprocess, multicore motherboards hooked up to things like Tesla GPUs, giving enough cores for the GPUs (hopefully more than one core per GPU) and then mining with the rest.

Also curious about why some people underclock and underpower their GPUs? .for sha256 mining you don't need GPU RAM so you reduce it to minimum, also running colder is bettre for life of gpu card so we undervolt as much as possible at standart speed so that our cards last.

Thanks.

workstation cards are more expensive because they have better RAM and are validated to specific standarts.

use regular gaming cards from AMD.
146  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: GPU Temps and overclocking on: April 07, 2013, 01:02:49 AM
for sha256 you don't need ram so reduce the speed of ram as much as possible. Look up to find the thread on msi afterburner.

if you ovetrclock you generate more heat, reduce the voltage and use standart speed to reduce heat.

more blowers. Grin

for script based coins I would go with the 7950 because of the faster vram bandwith.

for sha256  2 * 7790 less heat and power

my 2¢ Grin

clicksmoney is rigth bitminter is the easyest and works with nvidia cards. but better for you to buy an amd card or an ASIC if you can find one. Grin

152  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: a few newbie questions on: April 06, 2013, 02:04:39 AM
mining btc is the business of asic buy some bfl and pray the deliver. bummer because the price just doubled, delivery this summer, when Huh

to mine other cryptocurrencys it's a more complicated affair, if you like to solve problems then it's ok for you. Just look for the thread that talks of the 10$ plastic case and it will tell you how to build a well ventilated case for your computer farm.

with 5000$ you can build 4 computers of 3* 7970 cards each plus mobo cpu ram hd and case each. Look at the hardware thread ans you'll find one with the basic starter kit.

IT WILL RUN HOT, you need a well ventilated place with a good AC or 2, but free heating in winter.

Me I mine with my old GPu and maybe i'll buy a 7950 or 2  Grin
153  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Best scrypt mining GPU less then 200$? on: April 05, 2013, 01:18:03 AM
unlocking or overclocking is always a guess, so better to know of the possibility and try it out then doing nothing.  Cool
154  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: 2x 7970's, want to start mining, help? on: April 05, 2013, 01:03:43 AM
go to bitminter.com, it's a pool and a JAVA miner, easiest to use. Grin

do not crossFX your cards
