141  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: 0.5BTC Bounty for anyone able to walk me through getting my paper wallet setup on: March 31, 2013, 03:32:59 PM
See this Armory offline wallets page.

Also here's a tutorial that I'm writing for friends/family. Let me know your thoughts.

Hi

I have looked at your tutorial and am stuck at literally the first step. Sad

I will happily pay for somebody to walk me through the process of getting this set up. Actually i think i might make a thread for this. I will link to it when its up

Sorry I took so long to reply. It looks like the best course of action for you is as follows. Anyone else reading this please jump in here and correct me if I am wrong or you have a better idea.

Offline computer - Use the already installed OS (XP) If this computer never sees the internet again, it will work great with Armory on Windows - Installing Ubuntu is not incredibly necessary, especially since you're not sure how to do this. Save yourself the trouble.

Watching only wallet - You can import your Armory wallet backup to a blockchain.info wallet. (Tutorial needed as I can't seem to find it right now) Since Armory for your Mac is not so easy to install, again save yourself the trouble.

Wow awesome idea, and I agree it should be valued in USD as Bitcoin prices are to volatile.

like today, from $95 to $75 in 30min
Then back up to $87

145  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Armory - Discussion Thread on: March 28, 2013, 03:07:25 PM
Is it only my Armory online-client or does it generally consume a lot of memory (Win 7, 64bit)?
It's not just you. Probably eats about 2.5 GB on memory right now.
Etotheipi (Alan) is working on fixing that.
146  Economy / Speculation / Re: Just another crash discussion on: March 28, 2013, 03:05:22 PM
And I'd like to point out you probably paid more for that night out using BTC than had you used a local fiat currency (if not based on time spent converting and fees, but also because what you spent is probably worth more now than it was yesterday). There's no point to use BTC at niche locations over fiat at the moment, it's just novelty.
I paid $33 each for the Bitcoins that I spent last night at $89
That means I paid $16 for a $45 bar tab.
147  Economy / Speculation / Re: Just another crash discussion on: March 28, 2013, 02:50:05 PM
Right but valuation should not be determined by hype, which is happening at the moment. People coming into the fold now are buying into hype not value. Do you really believe they've taken in the landscape of the bitcoin community? Do they realize it has very limited utility? No, they don't. They're speculating that they're getting in on the ground floor of something massive that's going to take hold within a very near future (in their eyes). To me, and the utility BTC serves (for me), it's not even close to worth $100. How could it? I lease servers and buy domains and only because it affords a degree of anonymity. What is someone going to do with it that isn't involved in the tech community? Nothing.

You have an excellent point, but just because there is not much utility doesn't mean there's no value. You'll see.

FYI - I bought dinner and drinks last night for myself and 2 others at Whisky Dick's in Downtown Orlando.

I save bitcoins,  I will spend them to buy cheeseburgers,  I will use them to buy computers, ipads, iphones, whatever.

But hell no am I giving Uncle Sam something that increases in value.

He get's dollars.

tip: 10mBTC for being hilarious!

Seriously did you tip me?  I didn't see it that's why I wanted to make sure you got the right address:   1HByHZQ44LUCxxpnqtXDuJVmrSdrGK6Q2f

EDIT:  You rock!  I got it!

I have never seen anyone be so happy about receiving the equivalent of 1 USD but you are welcome Smiley (I hope you got 10mBTC and not 5 since I sent them through my wallet on Mt. Gox and specifically asked not to pay a fee - don't worry I only have very a very small amount lying there and I use a double layer of security)

If you don't understand the power of Bitcoin yet, this is it.  Very cool Sword Smith!
Tip sent to Sword Smith: 20mBTC for paying it forward!

I don't see how anyone can say this isn't a bubble. Nothing new has occurred since $40-50, not a thing. Except, of course, hype and media attention. But that's about as meaningful as a fart in the wind.

Which I guess is relative depending on whether you're upwind or downwind.
I disagree. "Hype and media attention" is significant. We are trying to get everybody on the planet involved in Bitcoin. Everyday more people that read about Bitcoin on CNNMoney and CNBC.
I know that people knowing about Bitcoin does not do anything for the price, but supply and demand drives prices and there is a great amount of demand right now.

I'm hoping it's a bubble. Lower price = Less new people interested in mining.

This looks like a pretty solid idea.

Plus you have the force behind you.

I save bitcoins,  I will spend them to buy cheeseburgers,
I bought a few burgers and drinks with Bitcoins last night (actually half a Bitcoin) at Whisky Dick's in Orlando

Now time to start calling Offical Payments and bugging them about accepting bitcoins too.  I would love the "can't pay your taxes with bitcoins" line to die a quick and horrible death.

Whisky Dick's in Orlando FL

FYI - Stoney Creek Roasters in Cedarville OH has a Google+ review from about a year ago that reports that the coffee shop owner accepts Bitcoin
Found that with a Google maps search of "Bitcoin" in Ohio
154  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Uses for BTC? on: March 28, 2013, 01:34:39 PM
I use it at a local bar for lunch, dinner and drinks.
I paid for 3 of us to have dinner last night and it was about a half a Bitcoin.

Had to tip in cash tho - Bummer

157  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Are Josh and Sonny Preparing to Ship? on: March 25, 2013, 01:36:01 PM

Let's just assume (which is against my better judgement) that you are correct.

SO WHAT?? They moved 20,000 BTC - What does that mean?
First you have to ask yourself why they would need to move that many BTC.

To know what is really going on, you would have to ask Sonny or Josh, not "yourself"
Speculating just wastes time and causes fun conversations like this.
158  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Poll: Do you really care about ASIC's? on: March 23, 2013, 05:14:09 PM
I think we have a new winner for "worst poll on BCT".
Want to make a poll to determine that?
Or we could use this thread to keep reminding the OP that the poll is useless
159  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Are Josh and Sonny Preparing to Ship? on: March 23, 2013, 05:04:30 PM
TCP RST;

Really?   You think it is serious to point out a lot of COINCIDENCES that happen around this company?   I think it is useful.   Re-butt them.   Why does BFL's CEO have the same name and is from this same HUGE city as a convicted fraudster?   Why does BFL's mouthpiece have the same name and is from the same HUGE city as someone who has a judgement against him for stealing from DirectTV?   Why do all these strange things happen in this city of 2 million?   And, there is a 20,000 BTC transfer two days ago IN THE SAME CITY.

I am listing all the coincidences (as you call them),

Do some math for me because I do not know.   How many people in this world have more than 20,000 BTC?  There are 6B people in this world, so a city of 2MM is not that many (1/3300).   are there more than 3,500 people that have more than 20,000 BTC?   Hmmmm.    Because if there are, you may correct that it matters that "St. Louis is a large city".   But if having the transaction so the location as St Louis ACTUALLY means (it may not) that the person doing the transfer was in St Louis, you are WRONG.   Statistically, this would be a SIGNIFICANT event because not that many people have more than 20,000 BTC (there can only be MAX 500 people in the WORLD who do and we all know it is far less than that because of the concentration of BTC in some large accounts.    So, YES, it is an interesting coincidence, especially when combined with all the other coincidences that St. Louis is an epicenter for BTC "coincidences" in this world.
Did Josh used to run a little ISP company?   Where?   What was its name?

Another interesting coincidence is that after days of silence, josh all of a sudden says the testing is going well ON THE VERY DAY THAT AVALON RAISES price.   What does that do?   Makes it all the more profitable to sell another round to the desperate that are seeking a cheaper way to get rich.

Let's just assume (which is against my better judgement) that you are correct.

160  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Hashrate jump, Who can it be ? +60% to 53 Ths on: March 23, 2013, 04:55:52 PM
Hashrate UP = Price of BTC UP ? Cheesy

If that is how it works in 6 months we are going to all be rich:)
If this were the case it would make more sense to invest in buying more BTC.....than getting an ASIC,lol.

I'm thinking that Many Asics shipping+EU debt crisis=volatility for BTC increase=Buy more BTC,lol.

+1 LOL
