To be honest i don't get these type of sites such as slashdot and reddit, I understand they're good for getting the word out but they manage to have no UI friendly appeal for me personally whatsoever, every time on rare occasion I stumble on one of these site I catch myself thinking how can anyone use and like these sites. I realize it's a matter of personal preferences but still it amazes me every time.

You will understand, that if you want news first and fastest, it is on Twitter.

Before that, it was every single other social bookmarking site. I really believe delicious and stumbleupon were some of the bigger ones, but digg obviously made it a staple to have a big button on every page, and a while ago reddit took their place, but rather than flip like digg did (which was change that UI to something 'friendly'), they held their guns, and that is why they are still awesome.

And remember folks, never fear, if all this shit goes down, there is still Fark, keeping it real Smiley

These are information only sites (sans Twitter), I mean, if you want to comment, have at it, but the majority of the users on most of these formats just are here to get the scoop and go.
1402  Other / Off-topic / Re: Tom (Myspace) on Mark Zuckerberg (Facebook)'s first public response to Google+ on: July 14, 2011, 04:38:36 AM
I really hate Zuckerberg but I want Facebook to win. If Google wins this one they'll become way too strong for my taste.

Meh.  This is a situation where, "wait, I already had a Google account, hell, before I had a Facebook account"

Google already won, they are now just giving us bonus features that other sites gimp Smiley

Abe supports Weeds: http://john-edwin-tobey.org:2750/chain/Weeds

(Sorry for the slowness.  A faster server and faster code are in the works.  The impatient are welcome to run and improve Abe.)

I'd support beertokens too if I could find the config file.  Could I have missed it?

I fully support these Weed coin things.  I also love this post, pot enters the picture, is late and has a bunch of excuses on why it is lol

LOL, she's showing her fucking snatch. Get over yourself, bro.
Oh boy, do I have some web sites to show you son, you have some learning to do.
1405  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Currency Symbol ฿ on: July 14, 2011, 04:11:50 AM
See this article for a glimpse at how seriously countries take it:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/magazine/7923825.stm

Oh India, have you nothing better to do with your time lol

That link proved my point:  "Even after a decade, many people still do not use the euro sign. The BBC, for example, writes out "euro", partly because it may still be unfamiliar to some readers, and partly because many keyboards still do not feature the sign."

I think there is a confusing situation happening about countries needing to respect Bitcoin and other such issues, I'm not seeing these as issues.  India.  Thai.  All these people can feel whatever way they want to, but I have no doubts the people mining and hoarding and enjoying Bitcoin within those places already do not give a crap about their old physical money, nor will the majority of people here.

I would love for Bitcoin to be accepted by the masses in a way that works with current currencies, but the very nature of how Bitcoin works to me is, there is no lands, no country, just one money with it's value determined by the people exchanging.     You use the word patience and such, this is the way it should go down, but now offer a way that it could happen, without it requiring the agreement of everyone.

I think the exchanges were mentioned before, without knowing specifically how, would getting a hold of the top 10 exchanges change it for everyone?    Even if Gox, Tradehill, etc, all used a brand new symbol to represent Bitcoin, and that is just how it was.   Do you feel that would be enough to change every merchant's mind to switch from logos and other assets for their shops, logos and assets their customer base already associates with their store, and they would give it up for what?   So people in Thai they have never seen can keep their symbol that person never knew as anything but for Bitcoin?

I'm trying to break it down realistically, it does not make sense.

I'm the Lynzoy person here. This is one of my really stupid moments, I was not being careful. I'm not just a speculator, I'm also a miner and I have sold things for coins. I don't see what it matters anyway.

Hey foodstamp? Give me my money back. You can send 10 btc to my signature address.

Hey foodstamp? Give me my money back. You can send 140.20 USD* to my signature address.

Seems so different when you put the price on it.   I assure you none of this matters, you replied to a post from June 30th, but I am sure it didn't matter then either Sad   You have good artwork btw!

1407  Other / Off-topic / Tom (Myspace) on Mark Zuckerberg (Facebook)'s first public response to Google+ on: July 14, 2011, 03:40:02 AM

Quote
Today at the Facebook news conference, +Ben Parr had the stones to ask Mark what he thought of Google+. (He was polite about it. I approve.) Zuckerberg responded by saying that lots of companies are going to build things like video chat, but FB competitors also have to build up their social graph first. Facebook's job is to just keep innovating. Perfectly reasonable response, and of course, he's exactly right--the challenge is to get the userbase, and make it easy for them to use. Done and done for Facebook. The integration looks great.

Some pundits are complaining that the technology is not new, but that's besides the point. Case in point: at MySpace we launched what Zuckerberg is announcing in 2007 (try googling "myspace skype partnership"), and MySpace also had one-on-one video chat back in 2004. The point is that people weren't really ready for it back then--now is the time, and FB has the userbase. The large userbase (750 million) paired with a simple integration of the arguably the best voice/video tech (Skype) is what makes this news.

Zuckerberg also pointed out in his response to the Hangout question, that one-on-one video chat will be the more common use case (Google+ has "Hangout" which allows 10 users to video chat at once). Again, perfectly reasonable, and probably right. Many sites have group video chat, Google+ is not the first, nor is Hangout a game-changer. What you need here is the userbase, which currently only Facebook has, and people will more likely talk one on one (like we do on the phone, duh).

The more interesting part of his announcement, I think, was the implicit response to Google+ in his intro leading up the Skype integration. What he said is that Groups on Facebook are actively used by half of the 750 million user base. And "Groups" is really Facebook's second attempt at "Friends Lists," which Zuckerberg admitted months ago, were not getting traction (people didn't want to do the work of putting people into lists).

The Facebook Groups feature is designed in a way so that users who do care to do the work, can. Someone invites you, and you're in the group without you having to take any action. (In fact, you have to do some work to get out of the Group!) Zuckerberg points out that this is how friend requests work as well--there's always a select few who do all the friending, and the rest of us just follow along, with a much easier "approval." Facebook's Groups were designed in a way to overcome the friend list problem. They've grown quickly, even if 95% of the userbase can't be bothered to make their own groups.

And if you think about it, that's the smart way Facebook has approached many things: build an app platform, and let the developer community do the heavy lifting. Create a translation platform, and let users translate Facebook in every language known to man. Create a Group feature, and let the 5% create the groups for the other 95%. It's like Mechanical Turk, but we're not getting paid. (Unless you're Zynga! ;-)

What remains to be seen, is which model will users prefer in the long run--Facebook "Groups"--which function more like an old-school Yahoo Group with a Forum built-in). Or Google+ "Circles"--which is more like an email distribution list-meets Twitter with better commenting. The two are actually very similar, but each probably does certain things better than the other. Thinking about what each model does better is probably the key to unlocking what "model" is going to "win.

----

If anyone still wants in on the Google + train, just PM me an email address, so far I have got 15+ people in Google+ without charging one Bitcoin.  And so far only one person has donated a Bitcoin and I feel bad about it cause I swear I say it is for free!    But I will not feel bad about further donations lol

Anyways, fucking cool as fuck that Tom is all over Googe+.  I only know this because of Plato (also on +).  Lots of cool shit going on, lots of random people here using+, good to see it Smiley
1408  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Currency Symbol ฿ on: July 14, 2011, 03:15:21 AM
Bitcoin is disruptive enough as is - mainly I hope, in ultimately good ways.
Self preservation of the coin.  It has to come in tough and swinging against all other currencies.  When is the last time a currency was accepted among so many different people among so many different lands?

The logistics of a currency symbol being incorporated into every single computer that is already in everyone's home, not going to happen.

The numbers of people who use the ฿ symbol currently versus the numbers of people wanting to use it for Bitcoin, who knows, but that number is growing, we know that based on numbers and even how the system itself is made, we will be making these little ฿'s for some time now.

There is no way to properly handle this situation, and I am nearly fully sure that no country is going to be okay with a swiping of their old relic to make way for new world order.   Oh wait, now I'm sounding like one of the kooks (more so than normal, cause even I'm noticing it).  I'm only half kidding in what I write here, I really do think it will just have to be a forced taking of that symbol, I wish there was options around that, that would be realistic.

I really think the sooner everyone gets over this hump its for the best (thread was started in 2010 lol), it does suck for the Thai people, but maybe in the end they will just make BTC their main currency Wink

Smugglers are heroes.

They resist the coercive State to help supply meet demand, a most noble cause.

We our them our thanks for their bravery.

Actually true.  They are the 'front line' do the true dirty deeds, good point, neat article, I like.

There is always the possibility that on slow market days like this, it is only because the higher power controllers wanted a day off.    Great, now this thought is going to fuck with my mind like my Mom telling me that when it rains it is because God is crying.  Yup, just like it.

From a comment to the slashdot posting:

So now it induces nerds to stock op on GPU hardware? I get it! BitCoin is not currency at all, is just a new game genre: MMOM (pronounced like "mom"), Massively Multiplayer Online Money. The hottest MMOM in town. Spread the word.

That's funny!

It's funny and it's so damn true.   While Bitcoin is a real thing that some people are able to live off of, I have no doubts the originals who were mining all that Bitcoin that is worth so much to them now in so short of time, well how is this all not a game to them?
1413  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: #BuyWithBitcoin Contest - Porn Stars, Geeks, B Ball Players - 2nd Prize is POGS on: July 14, 2011, 01:39:38 AM
This isn't quite within the rules, but I thought I'd tell you.  My minor celebrity brother (who was on the reality tv show Big Brother) is staying at my house and I explained Bitcoin to him.  He tweeted about it: https://twitter.com/#!/MingleMixx/status/91146758767394816

haha, that is f'n awesome, this will definitely count as a celebrity entry

Now no more bumping this thread, I have a good chance of winning still lol

Thank you for the PM senbonzakura, I hope everything is understood better.  I know I definitely see things a lil different.  Duffman looks like the perfect person to do sample images btw from that one I seen, that is a good sample/filler image to kind of get the feel for how IBB will finally look Smiley

Wait a minute, you didn't pay because you thought nobody in authority was watching? I'm not sure I follow the logic there.

As a spectator on the sides, I read it differently.  "I had felt that the RIGHT thing to do was to defend myself against what seemed to be a bunch of KeyserSoze whiteknighting and an arrogant, irrational and impatient seller."  if I was being mass attacked and there was no mod present yet, I would not give up any BTC either, be realistic, you can't expect someone to be attacked online on a forum and them give up "IRL" money because the masses (no mods) want it?

Especially with so many mods having their hands in their own Bitcoin related projects (I mean, that should be a rule, no mod can have Bitcoin related projects on the side, that is just the clearest definition of conflict of interest, however since the start it has been like that from what I can tell, so I say nothing).

No matter what, the situation would have never happened if the funds were secure in the first place.
1416  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [Podcast] NPR's Planet Money - The Tuesday Podcast: Bitcoin on: July 14, 2011, 01:03:44 AM
I have no idea...but it would explain why someone would feel comfortable with that amount on there.

Well shucks, this is information about MyBitcoin I did not know.

Quote
This service shows the name MyBitcoin LLC and a mailing address in Nevis. It is not known if this truly is an LLC and if so, where the organization is located. There has been no member of the Bitcoin community who has claimed any affiliation with MyBitcoin.

Interesting.  I'm surprised the site gets used so much, I have always read negative things and just choose to wait for a more, or any information, regarding the owners now (is it BRUCE http://forum.bitcoin.org/?topic=3597.0 )
1417  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: NoobHowTo [A soup to nuts newbee system for a secure, portable USB wallet] on: July 14, 2011, 12:54:30 AM
Have *literally* dozens (hundreds if you ignore this post and "go it alone") of hours at your disposal. *Everything* takes forever, especially if you have to "redo", which happens far more often than you might expect, especially when you start typing in Linux commands (the part I detest).
Fuck I wish I had the time, I would seriously format your post to make it easier to read lol.  I want to try this out, but I know I have no time right now, but when I set time aside, if I already have all programs downloaded (but not installed, just basically I have all the 'ingredients'), how long until I pop that working USB Wallet?

Let's say my knowledge of computers is in a 'decent' rage, I am far beyond minimizing a window, but I only think there is two operating systems and Linux isn't one of them, how long would you estimate this process taking?  (and if speed of computer is a factor, let's go worst case on this one, pretend mom is using her eMachine to do this)
1418  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: [Scam Alert] Bitmole scammed services on: July 14, 2011, 12:41:24 AM
Don't overdue it.  Just send him the 1btc you owe him and give me that other half, " I foolishly made a deal without verifying if I had the funds first (-_-;, that you acted irrationally, and that we resolved it." should have been the whole post :p

I feel great pity on this and hope others take the time to remove the emotion from your posts and see how kind of confusing this situation was.

Also, dear lord you hit the nail on the head with the amount of newbies, spreadsheets, "games" and bullshit that persists, sadly though I don't blame all the mods, a lot of these forums is plain and simple "User Error".  I work with nearly no one on the forums past some few I was messaging early on, and I tend to only take people who have projects in development serious (unless within the Bitcoin Discussion or Newbie forums, then it's no hold barred).   I hope you continue to try out other projects Smiley
1419  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bounty 0.35 BTC for 5 slider images on: July 14, 2011, 12:29:06 AM
Well if you get "desperate" and want something that is worth more than $5, PM me and you could have your nice looking site up by tonight maybe, but so you know you are asking for far too much work at a $5 fee.

Collecting of images, design, edit, design, finish times 5 images for less than $1 per image?

I only question all this, because what you want this site to represent or be.  If do not take serious interest in investing in IBB from the start, I hope you don't expect others to do so for you  (sorry if this seems harsh, but I did not realize what site you were representing, I really feel it deserves better than someone getting $5 is all, I have liked the idea behind that since early on)
1420  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoinmarket Invite on: July 14, 2011, 12:15:05 AM
Well, it seems I have been a member since June 19th.  But there is no password reminder set up and since I never used the site I never held onto that password, so, I have no way to invite anyone Sad

I can't say I understand why someone would want to use this site over the other exchanges though, but I'm sure it has certain benefits that work well for certain users.  Good luck.

Edit: omg resetting password!

Edit2: omg email no longer valid Sad
