741  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN] BitRing - Ad Exchange for Bitcoin sites on: September 28, 2011, 10:21:17 AM
You are the only "openly porn" site here that I know of Smiley

If there are many sites interested I could add "No XXX" option and separate adult sites and normal ones.

Maybe as a test, have a "No XXX" check box as an option, that is defaulted to be checked so there is no one accidentally advertising porn.  That way you can see if that is a service people would be interested in at all.  I assure you just asking or waiting for people to say they want the service will not happen with porn, I am the few vocal ones, and even I do so half assed.
742  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: DONOR THREAD for #OccupyWallStreet Bitcoin Promotion on: September 28, 2011, 10:11:23 AM
Donated, don't want my btc back, I want this to see this the light of day is all.   Even if not in time for OccupyWallStreet, these cards should be made and given out, ready for any event Bitcoin might be relevant.
743  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN] BitRing - Ad Exchange for Bitcoin sites on: September 28, 2011, 10:06:58 AM
I await the one the allows adult sites.
744  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: "The Ethical Exchange" is Coming - Should General Bitcoin Users Trust It? on: September 28, 2011, 10:05:24 AM
They've posted in the other thread that their launch will probably be delayed until October.  Until they post basic business information about themselves and who's behind the company, you'd be insane to deal with them no matter how many buzzwords they use on their website.

Hey, get that logical thinking out of here, that is obviously conspiracy talk.
745  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Silk road on: September 28, 2011, 10:01:12 AM
You're probably under-estimating how hostile many Aussies are to illegal trafficking of our native wildlife.

Not at all.  I am however super under estimating how much of a difference that makes for people who do whatever it is they do for a living to earn enough money to spend on zoo animals for their birthday party.  Or for that one dealer who just has to own a tiger.  Or whatever.  Basically the people who would be using such services could probably care less about the general btc user, probably much like the Silk Road users.

Realistically though, the people who would run this would literally have to be farming wild animals, otherwise they would be tracked I'm guessing.   Maybe start with small stuff like rare snakes and insects or something.

Look, if this were to all happen, the legit Bitcoin users would keep knowing the media is wrong in associating all Bitcoin usage with animal trafficking, and business would continue as normal.
746  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Are there any bitcoin pr/marketing companies or individuals ? on: September 28, 2011, 09:51:10 AM
One problem is that many of these startups are offering very paltry "bounty's" for the work that needs to be done. I'm happy to offer discounts off normal market prices for this work, but people still need to be prepared to pay for quality.

So so true.   I have found though the people who are willing to invest Bitcoin into something as simple as a logo, succeed far more than the people who seem to outright object against marketing or press of any kind.

Then there are special cases like this https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=43908.0 lol
747  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Silk road on: September 28, 2011, 09:47:16 AM
Right now though, as bitcoin struggles to grow - it just seems bad for business.

That drug transactions might be enabled pales into insignificance compared to some of the other theoretical uses.
Assisting in wildlife smuggling is one that will potentially even alienate a large slice of the pro-drug crowd.

The pro-drug crowd isn't going anywhere, they are hooked lol.  The reasons they are in Bitcoin are already done, they are now part of Bitcoin's history and I'm pretty sure some people probably make a living off of Silk Road.    I'm pretty sure a bitcoin animal black market appearing would do far more strides for actual Bitcoin use than most BTC related ventures.
748  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: "The Ethical Exchange" is Coming - Should General Bitcoin Users Trust It? on: September 28, 2011, 08:59:16 AM
It may pass the smell test for the average Joe, but for this community, I think not.
With replies I'm seeing, I'm not so sure about that.
749  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Silk road on: September 28, 2011, 08:55:17 AM
Bad enough that you don't give a shit about the planet or the suffering of individual animals.. but what have you got against bitcoin?
Can't answer false loaded question, sorry julz.   I'd love for Bitcoin to be used in any way people will realistically use them.    So far I see more talk of underground usage than quote unquote legitimate uses.

Yeah.. I'm just throwing slaps now while it's just a comment in a hopefully obscure thread.
I get that it just starts as a joke.
BTCP is as an easy slap target I guess because his mouth seems to take things and run a bit... diarrhoea like.

You are so mean hearted Cheesy     I just seen this part, I have little to add to what I wrote above, but I will try to expand in a legitimate way.  I want Bitcoin to succeed overall, I do not just hope that people use Bitcoin in a way that is basically just replacing the dollar in people's minds.  I think Bitcoin is a little greater than that, and is obviously being used in ways much greater than the dollar, helping support and put some kind of trust in places it wasn't before, like black markets.

Your comment regarding OccupyWallstreet means little to me, I know that it is going on, but I have no idea what it is.   I do know it made this happen https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=45943.0 and though I don't have shit for btc at the moment, I made a small anon donation to that address a few hours ago when the thread was made (one of the .25 donations in Block Explorer is me, yay).

So julz, can you in a positive way explain why someone who loves Bitcoin and wants it to succeed would be anti buying koala's with Bitcoin?

I feel by asking that I answered in the sense that we both probably have different definitions of what success would be for Bitcoin.
750  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoins have lost $174,108,376.60 since June 9th 2011 on: September 28, 2011, 03:40:24 AM
So you now just called this a 'report' , posted it to your own ad agency (Huh?) and got it being reported as news.

http://www.tribbleagency.com/?p=8278

That is too damn funny.   I didn't even notice the credit on that was TheFounder, the link to Flexcoin's calculator page as the report was funny to me for whole other reasons.    Own the bank and the media, smart.
751  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Silk road on: September 28, 2011, 03:21:02 AM
How many bitcoins to illegally import a koala from Australia to USA? I can probably get high just off of hugging those things all day!  Grin

I swear I've mentioned it before, but who wouldn't want a Silk Road type service for rare and exotic animals?

Screw what mother earth says as far as what animals should live where, I want to have a koala as a pet.  And a panda too.   Drug dealers are known for buying exotic wildlife, in all honesty is this black market already on TOR and I just haven't looked hard enough?
752  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [ARTICLE] Bitcoins have lost $210,000,000 since July 9th 2011. on: September 28, 2011, 03:17:31 AM
A report?  Sorry, it was not a report.  It was a post on a message board.  And it is incorrect.

The link doesn't even go to a post on a message board, it goes to Flexcoin's calculator.  I found the whole 'article' amusing and it's worth reading through the comments on reddit.
753  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Silk road on: September 28, 2011, 02:49:55 AM
I hope they are full of shit and not just young and ignorant.

Interesting to see this thread after seeing this post on /r/Bitcoin

We are an anonymous assemblage of black market pharmacist who use bitcoin.
We have recently united our ongoing efforts to stop day trading and the
commodification of bitcoin. If you have bought any our products, you have already
contributed to the cause, and we thank you.

We have paid for several elaborate attacks against many bitcoin sites which
day traders rely on, and we have comprised the databases of several more and we
believe these sites do not yet know. We are able to do this because of our vast
bitcoin reserves which allow us to buy anything from private information, DDOS,
stolen databases or even complete dismantling of a website. The amount of bitcoins
we have to spend on offensive security will surely overcome even the most expensive
information security budgets.

We know where the day traders lurk, we know who they are but you know nothing
about us. We will continue to dismantle day trading, crash the economy and
stabilize the price for merchants and you won't even know who did it.

Bitcoin is ours, it may not have been made specifically for us but we have finally
united and we plan to make it ours by ending the commodification.

With Love,
RoBoT~PaRtY

Not so interesting, some guy asking to buy ritalin with Bitcoin

757  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / [ARTICLE] CoinLab: New center for Bitcoin projects in Seattle on: September 23, 2011, 07:47:45 PM
CoinLab got a full piece, congrats Doctor Nefario and all involved.

Quote
A group of Seattle entrepreneurs is forging ahead into the uncertain and intriguing world of Bitcoin with a new center for incubating projects and potential businesses involving the digital currency.

Called CoinLab, it’s the creation of Peter Vessenes, Mike Koss and Tihan Seale, housed inside the StartPad co-working space that Koss oversees in downtown Seattle. In addition to pursuing projects of their own, they’ve allocated funds for additional desks at StartPad in hopes of finding other entrepreneurs and developers interested in working alongside them on Bitcoin projects.

“There isn’t really anywhere that’s the ‘Place for Bitcoin,’ and that’s what we hope to be,” Vessenes said this week.

Vessenes and Koss have been kicking this idea around for a few months now, and had planned on pursuing the incubator in collaboration with a Bitcoin developer from China who goes by the name of Dr. Nefario. However, Nefario was prevented from entering the U.S. when he couldn’t convince customs agents at the Seattle airport that he could fund his planned two-month visit using Bitcoin.

CoinLab already has its first project, dubbed Bitsent, for sending Bitcoin via text message. Their sites promises “a lot more in the works.”

The volatility and complexity of the Bitcoin system  has generated plenty of skepticism, as reflected in this post by the NYT’s Paul Krugman earlier this month.

Organization and layout more so than a specific "feature" I guess is more what I am saying.  When I'm using waffles, it feels like I'm just using OiNK all over again.  When I log into an artist's page on What, as you can see from the screenshot in the example in the first post, you get a little more.
759  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What.CD now Accepting Bitcoin Donations on: September 21, 2011, 04:39:37 PM
Waffles will always be the number one second place spot in my heart.  They don't have the layout and features that What.cd does, but they do make up for it by having audio that cannot be found elsewhere.
