We were doing very slow the last 1008 blocks  about

I am thinking next jump will see a drop of 6-9%

Then we will be more or less depending on coin price to dictate diff vs ½ ing

no it can stick for 30 or 60 or 90 or 120 or 150 or 180 minutes or longer it does a check every 30 minutes and eventually drops out.  and sets power to 18.3 vs 17.3 volts which over heats the center board

If I do awesome miner I think I need to burn a sd card and be with the machine.  Next time I go to Clifton I will consider it.

14005  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: Antminer S17 pro fixed Frequency and Voltage default firmware on: May 19, 2020, 04:54:04 PM
Did it stick after reboot?

Also any power readings?

the gear was doing 2 boards

the gear now does 3 boards

but  the machine does 30 minute checks endlessly eventually it loses the volts and they go back to 18.3 the board over heats and it drops to 2 boards.

you then need to inspect again set low volts and see if it sticks  in the 17.0 to 17.5 range.

too bad it reports back every 30 minutes as that seems to cause the low volt setting to drop out

it just worked at 17.3 when I did a software reboot.

it will come back and test in 30 minutes over and over again.  It will fail eventually and they I have to do a soft ware reboot.

at this 17.3 setting it does under 48 watts a th.

if they had proper firmware and allowed voltage and freq setting this machine would work at 17.30 volts and freq 710 perfectly.

I wish I could sue them over the lack of proper firmware.  as they are robbing all of us miners big bucks $$

Once you see how  braiins + is your hatred of bitmain should raise a few levels.  This is an example of deliberate corporate theft on bitmans behalf.

And if they want to offer the better firmware and charge 1% fine but to not have it is fucked up.

so it will check every 30 minutes and fail sooner or later.  it will re set the power at 18.3 then the middle board will get too warm and drop out.

I have to manually reboot via gui it will go to 17.3 volts work for 2 or 3 or 4 even 8 hours  checking every ½ hour till it fails setting volts at 18.3 overheating middle board and dropping to 2.

well better then 2 boards at 18.3 volts all the

3 boards at 17.3 volts some of the time
and 2 boards at 18.3 volts some of the time.

Why wouldn't we be able to go clubbing or watch a movie with friends? There's no danger if you're a healthy person who gets enough sleep, eats well, takes vitamins and so on. If you're afraid of the virus take a test. Chances are you've already had it and have antibodies in your system. More than 50% of people get no symptoms or just feel tired while fighting the virus and then it's all gone.

Don't write that. It simply is not true.

There is always some danger no matter your age or health.

You could be 25 in good physical condition with a good nutritional meal plan.

It could hit you and whack you right out of the picture.

The chances of it doing that are  less than that of a fat 75 year old guy with diabetes and heart disease.

As a healthy 25 year old. you may be at  1 in 3000 or 1 in 4000 chance of it whacking you.

As a sick 75 year old you may be at a 1 in 200 or 1 in 300 chance of it whacking you.

A better way to say it is here are 500 six shot revolvers one gun has 1 bullet you must pick one of the guns at random and pull the trigger.

No choice about you are going to do it.  May you pick a good gun and live.

As for me at 63 a little over weight with diabetes in control as my diet is good.  I have 50 pistols to choose from I must pick one up and I must pull the trigger.

So I am 10x more likely to get whacked than that healthy 25 year old.

But If I stay in place I make it more likely to not get whacked.  If the 25 year old goes to a large party and passes around some joints he has made his odds worse then 1 in 3000 and I have made my odds better than 1 in 300.

It is a simple problem in math the unknowns are how resistance you are and how exposed you are.

The world has set up a second wave situation it will come and be worse than the first one.

Maybe the 25 year old. odds go to 1 in 1000 and the 63 year old odds go to 1 in 100.

"Good luck bro or sis" I would hope you are on the good side of the math.

Funny I thought it said 2040 not 2140.

I see btc as dead as most of humanity will be in 2140.

BADecker will be considered to have been a profit as much of humanity will have been killed during the hunger riots of 2099.

On a more positive note I will be really dead in 2140.

Most likely I will die before 2077.

 I would be 120 in 2077.

As for the fate of this forum in 2040 maybe Theymos has a plan for it.

@ Theymos have you set up a successor for yourself?

Whats the latest news on the build Phil?  Huh Huh Huh

the owner is hosting with normal grid power. He has a sweet heart deal and he extended it due to covid-19.

So we can mine at a profit but we are not doing solar for 2020.

We can do about 200kwatts

  voted yes.

just been playing with braiins +  to make s9's into space heaters.

It is easy to do.  if bitmain offered decent software for s15 t15 t17 s17 it would help the network.

Frankly they don't give a fuck or it would be there already.

S9's set to low volts and low freq are quiet .

I would love to do this with s15 t15 s17 t17

I just discover that braiins lets you work around s9 dead heat sensor chips.

this would be a godsend for s17 and t17
14011  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: What to do with s9's and dead temp sensors. on: May 19, 2020, 02:33:16 AM
spacing.

They have been running for 2 days

they use 402 watts around 4.4 th or about 91 watts a th

they are silly quiet .
14012  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: What to do with s9's and dead temp sensors. on: May 19, 2020, 02:33:04 AM
spacing.

So I realized that chip reading at 0 or dead chip means these boards will cause 100% fan speed.

So for all practical purposes you don't need a 4 wire fan for ppm control.

I put in 2 corsair 3 pin fans that top out near 1400 rpm they are set to 90% speed and the braiins software will eventuallyy sense no chip temps and then max the fan speed out.

Since I am clocking low and attempting to have a space heater with defective heat sensor I must keep an eye on the board sensors.

14013  Bitcoin / Hardware / What to do with s9's and dead temp sensors. on: May 19, 2020, 02:32:48 AM
So I am playing with  my 28

s9
s9 i
s9 j
s9k

I wanted to make 1 or 2 board space heaters out of them

I did build

1 one board space heater

5 two board space heaters

I found out a lot of work arounds the last few days.

One is use braiins +

I found that is was easiest to under clock.

I used an sd card

First work around: is  the sd slot is upside down on some s9's

So if you sd card does not fit flip it over it may fit.

Second work around is when you move the jumper to allow sd card boot it is a small piece of plastic and a smailer metal bridge is inside that plastic.  make sure that pulling the jumper you do not lose that piece of metal.

Third work around is about the temp sensor chip on your boards

if they read zero they are dead and both bitmain and braiins just run  the fans at full speed.

Making a quiet space heater next to impossible.  I have 9 boards like this.  They all will make  the fans run at full speed.

what is the work around.

since these are down clock low noise builds you need slow ppm fans  that move only 1500 or 1600 rpm at top speed. load the s9 with 3 shit boards.

clock to volts 8.1
freq 250
fans 90%

the miner will run  at 90 % then shift to 100% since your ppm fan is low speed max like 1500 the miner is a quiet 3 board space heater.

I will follow up with screen shots and photos.

Alright, I'm a bit slow, so using brains and undervolting how low were you able to get the wattage of a single board unit? Are you still planning on doing single board units? My use case is a lot less space heater and a lot more cheap desk piece cksolo pool.

I have the original 1 board unit built months ago.

I can hook it up today and go to 2th, 2.5th, 3th  and see what it does. for each setting.

I will sell the 1 board unit to you. I am pretty sure I can get it to do 200 watts and say 2.2th lets find out.  I will post back later today.
Thanks man, I'm looking forward to it.

first test is right here.

it is set to volts 8.2
and freq 350
fans are 40%. about 1200 rpm

this uses 225 watts and gives 2.4 to 2.5th   about 90 watts a th.

part of the efficiency being at 90 watts vs 83-85 is 2 fans and controller use 30 watts so a low set board 2.5th does not make up for the fans and controller.

Going to lower the freq to 325 and  will have results soon.

if you consider posting to uk please, I am interested in 2 low power (400w) low noise units.

I have 3 built I have enough fans on hand to do 6.

these can be set from 4th to 6th

and do about 340 watts at 4th = 85 watts a th

to about 520 watts at 6th = 86 watts a th.

I will have the six built by Monday.

I would ship to you ,but shipping is high, maybe 110 usd.  2 units would be about 140 plus 110 = 250 usd.

You will need your own psu's as shipping makes it not practical.

Once I have the six all setup I will demo them on you tube.

yeah i am happy with that, pm me when ready to deal.

are they switchable user end or you set them first before shipping? I would only use them on 4th setting.

Shoot me a pm I will program them with your pool and set them to about  4th.

They can be altered

the fans can do 1000 rpm to 2800 rpm

the freq can go as low as 200 as high as 900

volts can do 8 to 9.4

Since I made these to be quiet with slower fans.

I suggest never setting volts higher then 8.4
I suggest never setting freq higher then 440.

Your gear will be set to about volts 8.2
frequency to about 350
fans at 1200 about 40% on manual

giving around 350 watts and 4th.   for each unit.

shoot me a pm I will setup the pool for you on each one and test mine for you.

They like Firefox browser on windows.

They can do Firefox on Mac
they can do safari on Mac.

I also can access them with iPad with safari.

I seem to have trouble with edge browser and chrome when I use windows 10.

I downloaded braiins +  from braiins website to an sd card boot the s9 then loaded the sd card onto the s9 so they run without an sd card.

After weekend testing I am happy I have stable units.

Simple enough.

cheap power = profit

there is more but. cheap power takes away most risk.

You do not get the returns of buy and hold. But you don't fear buy and drop in price.

I can make money if coins drop.
I can make money if coins go up.
I can make money if diff goes down.
I can make money if diff goes up.

If build burns down I collect as they are insured.
If gear is stolen I collect as they are insured.

My risk is not high.  But I do not get crazy high returns.

LoyceV brought up a point regarding collectibles that is both accurate and something I feel I can comment on.

I am not sure exactly when, but somewhere around 2016 the way we leave trust feedback in the Collectibles section changed.  Prior you only left trust if you actually trusted the other party in the deal.  For example, if you sent first.  If you bought something from me and paid prior to me shipping I would not leave you trust as I did not have to trust you in the trade.  Now, positive trust is left for a positive trade.  If the trade is successful both parties generally leave a positive.

I preferred the old way as it was actually a trust system.

It was more of a slow evolution then a hard line in time. Not sure why or how but it did happen. I think that is why I have been pushing pushing for separating trade trust and forum feedback. Perhaps because feedback from other parts of the forum the collectibles (and hardware) slowly morphed.

Stay safe.

My return policy allowed full satisfaction of gear with zero question and no penalties for a return.

Gear breaks makes sense to allow it. If buyer does not abuse this I would give a trust.

Why this ever happen in coin collectibles I don’t know.

But it does make sense with returnable gear.
