1421  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: My Secret btc Price indicator on: May 25, 2021, 05:32:23 PM
Don't take trading advice from cryptoboss2020.

They have a history of posting completely illogical and downright ludicrous theories which don't make any rational sense.  Spare your precious brain cells and place them on ignore.
1422  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do you think CBDC's will be interchangable with cryptocurrencies? on: May 25, 2021, 05:23:18 PM
In short, no.

My suspicion is they'll only allow licenced currency traders or brokers to do that.  More to the point, even if you could, why would you take the risk?  Any CBDC you were hypothetically able to deposit to an exchange could be confiscated at any time, without warning.

If CBDCs work the way I think they will, I wouldn't list them if I ran an exchange.
1423  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Taproot proposal on: May 25, 2021, 03:51:51 PM
I request immediately gmaxwell and achow101 to address the following concerns regarding taproot:

Citizens of the United States of America pushing very hard for taproot, they go far as straight lying: https://twitter.com/adam3us/status/1396888227538145294

Neither this period nor the previous period reached 90% but in the USA everyone is celebrating the taproot lock-in.

Why I have that feeling that Bitcoin price is plummeted not because of Elon Musk, but because of Taproot?

People in the USA celebrating also that in China miners having a bad time, so how the hell they can celebrate taproot lock-in when those who signals the majority are Chinese miners.

I don't even wanna mention Foundry USA and Blockstream.

The moderator on this board achow101 is the main person who spreading fake news online regarding taproot.

You seem to be misinterpreting.

Quote from: achow101's Twitter
We now have ~95% the hashrate fully signaling for Taproot, so Taproot should lock in during the next signaling period.
.

No one is saying it has locked in already.  They're saying we're on course to achieve lock in next period.
1424  Other / Meta / Re: frodocooper nolonger a mod, what could have happened? on: May 24, 2021, 09:47:10 PM
For a community dedicated to a project where privacy is considered an important feature, people sure do speculate about other people's personal circumstances a lot.   Roll Eyes

I tend to take that stance that they'll tell us if they want to.  But if that doesn't happen, then it's none of our business.
1425  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Unaddressed Bitcoin FUD on: May 24, 2021, 01:17:20 PM
What would be the implications of governments banning trading on crypto exchanges?

That would be an issue if they prefer people to conform to KYC/AML requirements.  If they drive the use of crypto underground, it will be more difficult for them to monitor.  It's in their best interests for as many people as possible to use regulated exchanges.  That way, they can easily track what's going on, as they have the identities of all the exchange users recorded.  If anything, they would only attempt to shut down the unregulated exchanges.  But that's not easy and can swiftly turn into a game of 'whack-a-mole'.
1426  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: SAVE CRYPTO FROM PEOPLE LIKE ELON MUSK on: May 23, 2021, 05:01:33 PM
I have some solutions which can change the entire course of Bitcoin and all cryptocurrency in a good way, and I don’t if Satoshi Nakamoto thought about this or not but I need to speak to Satoshi Nakamoto or the like-minded individuals who are at the top of the market. To be honest I am not great with tech what I thought is all theoretical and  need someone to collaborate with.

I can guarantee you aren't getting an audience with satoshi, heh.  Maybe start at the beginning instead of going all "Karen" and asking for management when you've only just got here.

TRUST ME IF THIS WORKS MARKET WILL MUCH MUCH BETTER AND CRYPTO WILL BE ACCEPTED BY ALL GOVERNMENTS.

And what sacrifices are you proposing in order to achieve that?  Nothing comes without a cost and I'm already thinking yours probably isn't worth paying.

If you want to know those solutions please mail me on: cn567@criptext.com and we can collaborate save the the crypto from shit people like Elon Musk.

It's an open-source project, so it's preferable to keep discussion open and public.

1427  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Fighting the FUD of PoW versus Po(Insert favorite word here)!! on: May 22, 2021, 10:28:54 PM

(now awaits windfury to call on his best buddy doomad to defend windfury's honour and start some silly preteen social drama. like they always do)

I've been waiting for you to say something dishonest or misleading but, to my surprise, you're actually doing okay so far.  It's a refreshing change of pace that I don't have to take immediate issue with something you've just said.  It's almost like they've finally put you on the right meds or something.  The post just prior to yours even managed to mention Lightning without triggering you into one of your usual tirades.  For what it's worth, I sincerely hope your current trend of rationality continues.

Through all this madness, I am trying to keep my faith that Elon, at the end of the day, is the guy who re-landed the Falcon rockets and that giant, pointy piece of Stainless steel. If he really gets down to it, he should realize why PoW is important and why scaling isn't as simple as increasing blocksize.

I'm rather indifferent towards his personal growth and betterment.  Whether he gets it or not, at some point, the market should outgrow his puppetry.  Let him have his misguided fun while he can.
1428  Other / Meta / Re: Who is the Last BTC developer left standing? on: May 22, 2021, 06:19:56 PM
I see this technical board has really gone to zilch, nada anymore

Are you finding that trolling the general Bitcoin Discussion forum is unfulfilling?  Looking for a greater challenge, are we?  Somewhere more prestigious to disrupt?  Aww, too bad.

It's because of people like you that the overall quality of the forum is dragged ever downwards, causing the activity levels of the technical subforum to dwindle, as those who used to frequent it are now seeking the exchange of ideas in less hostile environments.  Places which you aren't taking a steaming shit in.

Cardano  Smiley
Currently #5 on CMK, and it is Proof of Stake now.
You've been shilling Cardano. I get it as ADA has seen a lot of interest recently with several newbies joining it to join the public stake pools. Just to remind you that all this time, the pools were being run by their foundation and two more entities. So effectively, just 3 entities controlled the whole network.

I have replied to another one of your posts here which talks about the same thing.

Indeed.  With PoW, there's a financial disincentive to divide your own available hashing power between pools, as it could reduce your chances of finding a block.  With PoS, it's trivial to form dozens of pools and it won't cause any major penalties to your chances of staking coins.  Which makes the overall number of pools meaningless.

And when Cardano supporters make the argument that the cost of a 51% attack:
could cost 15 Billion ADA when ADA is priced at $1, which will be a thousand times more money currently needed to initiate a 51% attack on Bitcoin (BTC).
that sounds a little disingenuous when people were accumulating ADA before it was worth $1.  Back in 2017 it was worth $0.03 US.
1430  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: The Lightning Network FAQ on: May 21, 2021, 09:44:19 AM
Lightning Network for use with bitcoin only right?
Can Lightning Network use with other alt coin?

Litecoin and (I think) Vertcoin also have Lightning implementations, but in terms of usage, I get the impression they're pretty limited.  There's not nearly as much liquidity on those chains.  In essence, you'll find it easier to make payments with LN using Bitcoin, compared to altcoins.
1431  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Time to Decide: Are You an Investor or a Gambler? on: May 20, 2021, 01:24:24 PM
Does it have to be either/or?  What if I'm an "enthusiast" or an "advocate"?  What if I care about the culture and the values of Bitcoin as much as, or possibly more than, the price?  Perhaps that means I'm just an investor who happens to be invested on an ethical level as well as a financial one.  Or am I more than merely an investor?

It's easy for topics like this to get a little superficial.  But there's already more than enough shallowness in social and mainstream media.  Let's not lose sight of some of the more important (IMO) aspects of all this stuff.
1432  Economy / Economics / Re: The Downfall of TSLA on: May 20, 2021, 08:39:44 AM
Apparently they're getting into trouble with their solar roofs project.  Someone's filing a lawsuit.  They do seem to have a talent for pissing people off, heh.
1433  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: China bans Bitcoin again in 2021 on: May 18, 2021, 04:42:24 PM
Another fud in the bull run.  Angry

If you're averse to FUD, then try to make the title of your topic less misleading and click-bait-y.  Restricting financial institutions from using Bitcoin is not the same as an outright ban.  You need to make that clearer.
1434  Other / Archival / Re: The community created a petition: Elon Musk, sell your bitcoin on: May 17, 2021, 07:27:42 PM
The more attention people give him, the more influence he can exert.  Petitions give him more attention.  You are going to achieve the complete opposite of what you set out to do.
1435  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Arguing that a coin with a very low energy usage or "efficient", cannot exist on: May 17, 2021, 10:44:16 AM
Problem is Bitcoiners see any energy waste issue pointed out to them as a flaw in Bitcoin, and that they refuse to accept.
The energy waste issue is not an attack on bitcoin, because at  any time since 2013, they could have begun the transition to Proof of Stake, and have refused due to some cultist belief that is totally inaccurate.

Advantages to switching Bitcoin to PoS are the following
(...)

And yet, in the same breath, you completely fail to acknowledge a single downside, flaw or compromise to PoS?  Snake Oil Salesman much?  It's not all rainbows and sunshine, so stop pretending otherwise.

It's a completely different security model, different type of trust level and different alignment of economic incentives.  It's unwise to change the foundations of a robust and stable structure at a whim like that.  If PoS really was better, the market would have noticed by now.  Have you considered that maybe you're not in a position to insult our collective intelligence and act like just about everyone in this multi billion dollar industry is some sort of mindless drone?  Seriously, who the hell do you think you are?

C'mon people, don't you see that he is trolling? He doesn't deserve a serious answer for those nonsense questions.

Time to add yet another name to my evergrowing list of ignored users...

Difficult to tell if they're a troll or just completely lacking in intelligence.  I just don't get the sense there's any cognition going on in their head.  It's just one thread after another containing mindless drivel.  But either way, yes, preserve your sanity and put them on ignore.
1437  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Taproot proposal on: May 14, 2021, 07:26:53 AM
If the community came into consensus that it wants Taproot, then it should be activated. The miners can’t expect everyone to sit, and wait forever.

Yeah, I understand the point of contingency planning and being prepared for all eventualities.  But at the same time, we don't want to alienate anyone in the process.  If you start talking as though this is a foregone conclusion, miners could conceivably interpret that to mean you have no respect for their opinion, since you haven't really made an effort to find out what their opinion is yet.  If miners aren't supporting it, the first step is to open a dialogue to find out why.  It's a little premature to start talking about options like UASFs.  That sort of talk comes across as unnecessarily hostile.
1438  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Taproot proposal on: May 13, 2021, 07:19:38 AM
The users/economic majority will have no right to demand for the type of blocks they want, if the miners will not signal readiness for the upgrade? From your point of view, the network should always be under the mercy of the mining cartel? If miners won’t signal for Taproot, we simply accept?

At least give polite discussions a chance first before we start making "demands" .  If you start seeing everyone as your enemy before they've done anything wrong, that's a great way to create tension and halt any progress you could have made by working in cooperation.

Remember, this is a collaborative network that functions optimally when everyone is in agreement.  It's not constructive to go looking for a dispute that might not exist until you cause it.
1439  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: I'm a nube and made a coin on: May 12, 2021, 05:33:26 PM
Come on, how can you be a numb and yet you made a coin! Is that even possible or believable.  C++, coding and coin development is some pro shit and I seriously doubt a numb in cryptos, I don't mean the forum but cryptocurrency in general should be able to wrap his or her head around it, come on!

No, there's definitely software that generates a new forked blockchain with relative ease.  It's like an unwritten rule that we generally don't want to go about promoting that fact, though, for obvious reasons.  To do coin development properly takes skill, yes.  But literally anyone can churn out a dozen clone-coin knock-offs without much effort.  Why do you think there are so many pump'n'dumps out there?

So what I am really wondering is...to make a coin popular, does it have to have lots of people hosting nodes and mining?

You'll probably get a number of different answers to that question.  I think the easiest answer is to say that there isn't one particular thing that makes a coin popular.  It's a combination of factors.  But it feels like everyone is looking for their own preferred combination.  You can't please everyone.

For me, it's more about the principles.  As with most things, strong foundations are important.  If you build your coin based around a particular ethos and pursue that ethos relentlessly, never abandoning those principles, that's a good start.  If you can find others who share that vision, particularly ones who are talented coders who can build a reliable and securely robust system, then it's better.  And if you can do all of that while not succumbing to the temptation of a pre-mine to "fund development", then better still.  It's surprising the number of project who can't even get those bits right.  Beyond that, yes, it's about network effects.  The more users you have, the more useful your network becomes.

1440  Economy / Economics / Re: CBDCs are not an "opportunity". They'll likely offer you less than you have now. on: May 11, 2021, 09:58:21 PM
So far fiat are traded using broker which are also providing exchange platforms to trade fiat, that means people will be able to trade CBDCs also, but with the brokers or exchanges that can follow the rules of the countries that created the CBDCs.

It wouldn't surprise me if they insisted people be registered, accredited brokers before they're allowed to do anything like day-trade one national CBDC against another.

It would work out as another ponzi, the early adopter would definitely gain handsomely, they need some take the initiative and also paid them a lot to make sure everything could take off, you may get less if you are late, I’m certain those get in early would gain most of them, sadly you won’t be one of the early, those early spots would likely taken to the ponzi master and the bankers.

Nope.  Fiat currencies, broken though they may be, aren't a ponzi scheme.  There won't be any benefit for adopting early.  You're just surrendering your privacy and autonomy faster by doing that.  They will retain the same value as the existing national currency.  In other words, you can't profit by selling your digital national currency back for the same physical national currency.  All it means is that cash will be gradually phased out as more people adopt the digital version.
