1 account, 10 million.

9 anonymous people are chosen.

3 get the first part of the password.
3 get the second part of the password.
3 get the last part of the password.

So to send money, we just need to contact 1 of every group.  This needs to be a diverse group so that no one can figure out other people that might be in the group of chosen ones.

Make a script that allows input of the password parts and then executes it.

Or better yet, use some sort of screen sharing where each person then enters their password phrase. Everyone can view at the same time.

I like wesleys's idea much more than the idea of having 10 separate account controlled completely by 10 people. To summarize,  I going to put forward this proposal:

1. BCNext create a completely secure account holding 10 million fund

2. BCNext choose 9 trusted password holders who pledge 1. to never reveal the password or his names; 2. to follow the rules of funding; 3 to act expediently when the his password is required

3.
Following wesleyh's proposal

3 get the first part of the password.
3 get the second part of the password.
3 get the last part of the password.

4. The funding for a new project would follow my concept  of "open bounty" outlined here

Anyone can step up and present his/ her idea, propose a bounty and let the community decides. So we continue the tradition of asking for bounties in a decentralized fashion as we have been already doing in nextcoin and nxtcrypto forums so far. But now funding would be a bit easier to come by since we have common pool in addition to private donors's fund.

This will work easier when we have the voting system in place. A person presents his/ her idea, propose a bounty and action plan, and set up a vote. Community can ask questions in the meantime and when the voting is over, the project will be funded if the vote passes the majority. A democratic and decentralized method of funding projects.

We can even implement this type of "open bounty" even when the voting system is not yet in place. In fact, we actually did it one time already with the case of Maco's android app as the overwhelming majority refused to fund his 500K NXT request for his app. So we actually had a precedent in place already. Let's continue the funding process in this type of decentralized fashion instead of giving one person/ or group the authority of giving out the funds.

5. When a project get funding, a time will be set so that the pass holders can coordinate and send the necessary fund to the project with funding. Make a script that allows input of the password parts and then executes it.

6. A guideline could be as follow (credit nxtberry)

I would also like to see an efficient donation/reward/funding program approx like this:
* 10 NXT donation to new nxters for basic testing
* 100 NXT reward for minor NXT promotion
* 1000 NXT graphics, branding, major promotion etc.
* 10000 NXT minor development, larger graphics work, applets, wide media promotion etc.
* 100000 NXT larger development / significant projects funding, milestone events

That's the proposal to deal with all the funding issue and all the unclaimed coins. Please support this proposal and end this debate in consensus. Please suggest modification as needed.

Noone minds I suppose?

Looks very good to me.
1422  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: January 19, 2014, 05:37:33 PM
We are a team of people (me, salsacz, nifty, justabit and a few more) who have worked hard on NXT marketing and organizing for over a month and we have not been paid shit for it and none of us are stakeholders.
And even the times we have plead with the community to start giving funding to these projects that is the corner stone of succes: we get zero recognition for it.

There is a distinct bias towards dev work in the community.
Not surprising, seeing the initial group that would use any crypto, especially an innovative one.

However, I've seen a lot of work seen go unrecognised, too.
The people who keep the sites and wikis running spend hours a day keeping stuff up to date.
If the sites weren't there, this would be the only place Nxt would be seen and it would fail.

Also, the calls for funds do not go into the pockets of these people as "stash" but are prespent on buying domains, webspace, or tickets to go to conferences.

I already said earlier there is a tendency to negatively comment on marketing, as if it's in some way dirty and people asking for funds are asking for free Nxt.
Not by all, but it's there. Imagine if that were done to the devs who put in shitloads of hours.

I can't speak for others, but the time and money I put in is spent because
a) I believe in Nxt and want it to succeed.
b) I don't have dev skills, but don't just want to sit on the side, but actually contribute.

To hear someone say that such people are shitheads that basically think they are great and the devs are not makes me more than a little angry.

Now, having said that, I am going to eat, chill a bit and come back with some more positive attitude.

Is there a poll needed or can Cfb send it right away?

Pin

Let's send 250K and watch the result.
- How will we evaluate the results? By what criteria?
During that time they will announce results.

I will do this anyway in my daily summaries.
1424  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: January 19, 2014, 04:23:26 PM
We've been telling people that BS for a month, let's actually do it.  Put a 250k white paper bounty up right now, and all those who contributed can share it.

Good idea.
Also, wé have seen that BS for a month.
Looking at the reactions we have been getting, not a lot of others have Smiley

Anyway, 250,000 is agreed, and I am happy we can progress.
1425  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: January 19, 2014, 04:20:02 PM
Jesus, you don't need more articles and videos to prove that NXT is not a scam.

This is why paid press releases hardly ever work if they are recognisable as such. Smiley
1426  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: January 19, 2014, 04:16:02 PM
Can we at least wait until we have a completed White Paper and Open Source Client.  I feel like I'm taking crazy pills here!  I would like to have a nice brief article explaining Nxt, Features, POS, and then at the bottom, a download link for one of the Open Source Clients.  You can't throw arbitrary marketing ideas around and expect funding, be more specific.  We need to wait until we have a one click client, or we will lose people forever.

How about this: we actually tell people that these things are in development. We prioritise the white paper.
We already know the client is priority.

We use the fact that the client is coming as a hook. We can already tell people about the things that are there, but only available to the happy techy few. People want things they can't have.

And we also prioritise to get a marketing plan out within the next few days with concrete and verifiable goals that are not too far into the future.
1427  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: January 19, 2014, 04:10:54 PM

I agree with James that we need some marketing , but for more techies and for more early adopters (for those that missed most of the "trains" like bitcoin litecoin, they can get on this bus), not the end user the end user isn’t ready for nxt neither nxt for the end user ... doggie coin? well ok let doggy coin take the dumbs! we will take the devs and the marketers, nxt is already success ! ( have you installed the 0.5.9v ? ) its much wow... many thanks Jean-Luc...

we are in the stage of INNOVATION , were everybody that wants to get in needs to show some efforts to code code code for the community, contribute, provide goods and services...
So please we are not dogy we are NXT, decentralized assets, exchange... and please promote in the places where developers need work (like Indian forums for example) this is what we need , developers & marketers.

One of the things marketing at this point can do, is communicate that we are still beta. Much dissapointment and people leaving can be had from just doing that.
Get out the message that we are innovating and create a buzz that people will want to jump into as soon as it's possible for them.

That's what I mean by creating a wave. You want people to wánt it.

I also think we should do regular reports to the community what we are doing and have done. Results.

1428  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: January 19, 2014, 04:02:11 PM
Can't we just send 1M to salsacz and let him/her (which one btw?) to decide how to spend this money for marketing?

This is the complete plan.

1,000,000 would easily cover costs to get most things started (and finished).
We already know that some things on this list will only be important in a later stage.
I trust salsacz to handle the funds and he can also keep the community up to date about spending.

Edit: some of it is already done, by the way.

THAT is NOT a plan, there are things in that list that are payed over and over with bounty

I don't think anyone is suggesting we double pay.
The thing is meant as an illustration that there is a "plan" and we can work from that.

The point is not that this list needs to be followed to the letter, but that funds are needed to do some things. Open, transparent and with speed.
Let's not get derailed in details.

I'm getting a really uncomfortable feeling that "marketing" has such a negative connotation. It's just effective communication, for god's sake. Call it that if it makes you feel better.

Edit: and it needs to be resultbased! Total agreement there.

4. I care much more about building a sustainable NXT's community than spending money on wasteful marketing which it not going to work if NXT is not a useful product.

Sorry, but that is just short sighted. I can qualify it in no other way.
Marketing is not something you start once you have the product in place. You have to create a wave.

If you start when you have the tech, you are already behind.

We do not propose an either/or situation. Both PR/marketing and development is needed.

Your post implicates that all marketing is wasteful. I assure you it is not.

We have done marketing. A lot of it actually. All comes from grass-root movements with private donor funds.

You can't bring corporate mentality into in this type of decentralized network movement.

Now tell me some specific action plans that need money and I will guarantee you that we have done some of it already.

One thing I would like to see is a quality promotional video - with a real director and a real star   - somethings similar to Apple'a promotional video that can be aired during half-tiem Super Bow. That's the type of marketing I would like to see not the repetitions of many thing we have done.
I have not said that we didn't do marketing, did I?
I have a site, translated lots of wiki material and emailed the press announcement to all major Dutch sites.

However, if you have to have a discussion each time you need to start up a campaign for which there are real costs, this slows your momentum.
And momentum counts.

The funds are there, we have discussed them. Everything can be done transparently. There is no one who says it needs to take funds away from development.

I don't understand your reluctance, frankly.
1430  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: January 19, 2014, 03:49:05 PM
Marketing and sales is not only about blowing hot air.

It's about communication. About telling people what the uniqueness of a product is, because it's a fact that most people are too lazy to go look for themselves.

Marketing is about lowering the threshold to enter into something and is as such linked to development.

The cry for a good client is as much marketing as getting the message that you have it out.

People dislike marketing and sales a lot of the time because BAD marketeers can use the same rules that govern good marketing for scams.

Edison is credited as the inventor of the light bulb not only because he was an effective marketeer, but also because the real inventors were bad ones. They let it slip away.

I would like it if that did not happen to us because we did not see the real value of marketing.

Please fund salascz's marketing plan.

James

Sometimes a decision just needs to be taken.
Salsacz has shown he is extremely productive and dedicated, as is our team.

Both devs and marketing need to be funded, and there has been enough talk that we won't jump into marketing that is either too early or not effective.
The marketing team has diverse voices that will counteract that.

Please, community, act!
