1421  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] SuperNET asset 12071612744977229797, trading symbol UNITY on: September 28, 2014, 10:39:03 AM
No worries, James.  I think there are enough real SuperNET supporters around that some of this trolling shouldn't be a huge problem.  I would bet that the majority (over 50%) of asset holders are true believers in the project/cause and are in it for the long term (myself included).  It would take a very intelligent and convincing troll to make us supporters get even a little bit nervous.  Based on what I've read so far, these trolls are rather unintelligent.  So you trying to challenge every troll comment would just give their comments more credit than they deserve and that is completely unnecessary.

I don't think closing the thread and completely moving to SuperNET forum would be a good idea.  Having a moderated thread would not be a good idea either.  It'll just give the trolls more reason to troll.

Now that you have UNO_owner step up and help with the FUD control (big thanks to UNO_owner btw!), I really hope you can take a little breather and get back to focusing on coding.  After all, you're just a simple C programmer.  You got a lot of work ahead of you Smiley

Moderated threads are there for a reason and they can work wonders Smiley
Personally I don't feel like registering on yet another forum so I'd appreciate it if important stuff is also announced on btt.
1422  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM Official Thread - Crowdsale has begun[Updates & Discussion] on: September 28, 2014, 05:53:30 AM
Proof Of Importance? based on what?

POI is based on serveral things: How much NEM you have, how much NEM you are transferring to others, how much NEM other are transferring to you. The exact formula is not set in stone so far. That's we are a little vage how it works in details.

I would really like to see a third aspect which is how long the NEM client/node has been running put in the mix too.  This could help to encourage more people with smaller amounts of NEM to also turn their client on and leave it on in the background.  Hopefully someday the network will be supported by lots and lots of regular people.

Node Coin https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=590421.0 has gone with client time (one point per second) and spending score (one point per coin spent) and then which ever Node has the highest score is more likely to harvest.  I think this is good, but they are missing the "coins received" and traditional Proof of Stake found in NEM.

Crypti has also added proof of merchant, which means that special merchants that register can get a discount on transaction fees.  By doing this, they can also be rated and won't be anonymous.  A trait that we actually want when buying something from another.  Basically as buyers we want to be anonymous and have our privacy protected, but at the same time we want the exact opposite for merchants.  We want merchants out in the open and their history and reputation easily known.  Basically, we want to know who we are sending our money too and what kind of person they are.  This power in reputation has been a huge part of the success of Amazon and Ebay and really should also be incorporated into crypto too.

I would call this PoS^4

Proof of Stake - Money held in account
Proof of Spend - Money going in and out
Proof of Service - How long a node has been supporting the network
Proof of Status - Registering with the network and allowing a reputation status

I really like the sound of this. Would be interesting to see what anyone official makes of it.

I have this bad feeling though perhaps something like this would be difficult to implement so late into NEM's development, but i may be wrong.

I am sure it would be hard to implement.  I know the devs have been working hard.  I have tested the alpha and it looks pretty nice.  I have also spent a little time seeing how stake and spend affects the PoI and I am impressed by the algo so far. While what I mentioned would be a lot, and complex math and tests would be needed before making it live, I do think there is a small possibility that a place holder could be stuck in the code, something that might later be edited and finalized after much more thought and consideration.  Though honestly I am not certain of that.

I don't think adding a new factor would be a problem. The whole code but POI especially is developed with extensibility in the back of the devs head. POI is something that will need to be adapted over time because only time will tell how well the algo works and if adaptation is needed. The network will of course be secure either way but for it to be a fair as possible and reward the right people adapations might be needed. At least that's how i understood it Wink
As for that specific factor...that might be a little more complicated but I can't say much without discrediting others.

...
...Nxt grew with nothing like the base of people behind it like NEM.
...

Do you honestly believe that ? NXT would imho be nowhere without jl777 and people like him.
The way I see it 80% of why NXT is perceived as so awesome is made up of projects that are built by the community on top of NXT and not the core features of NXT.
I agree nxt wouldn't be where it is with out those people. But those people would not be their if the nxt core itself wasn't as innovative as it is. Nems core as far as I can tell is even more innovative than nxt so I would assume based on that nem will attract just as Many if not more top class coders due to it being more innovative and attracting far less fud or bad stigma. I can see many people moving from nxt to nem and also from other communities once nem proves itself able to compete with the biggest of dogs. This shit is going to very real very fast. And tbh pat I thought you of all people would have been more optimistic.

If you thought I'd be optimistic then you obviously don't know me very well  Grin

Why is everbody convinced that launch will change anything ?
The mere fact that we launched will change nothing in terms of interest imho.

It will mean that NEM is real, for starters.

Also the mere presence of being on an exchange will attract interest.

Why... How could you think launch wouldn't change interest?

More than 2000 Nemsters will be more interested. Strange comment Pat.
I disagree completely pat.. Look what happened on the threads just before launch of trading on the AE. A lot of the gained interest remained after that. Imagine what will happen when we hit top 5 on CMC?

More than 1200 veteran btt members will be opening wallets and discussing it with people they know which probably include all types of programmers.

What keeps those 1200 from talking to people right now ?
Either I'm delusional or you guys are Smiley

First of all i don't think we'll hit top 5 soon. I'd be very happy with top 10 within the first month.
Aside from that - how on earth can people still believe NEM is "not real" ?

I'm not trying to be a downer but keep your expactations in check with reality people.

As well you don't aim for second place.
...

This is axactly what sets NEM apart. Most players in the crypto space go for releasing a coin making some money hit a few exchanges and that it.
Only ver few want to go big and actually change something. NEM is one of those.
1429  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM Official Thread - Crowdsale has begun[Updates & Discussion] on: September 26, 2014, 04:21:17 PM
China blocked access to BTT a week or two ago, so we could have some NEM stakeholders who can't even access this thread and may not be aware of the official NEM forum.

That is a very good point.  Facebook and Twitter will be blocked there too 100%.  I am guessing Reddit too.  So basically all our normal modes of communication will be cut off.

All the more reason to get that QQ set up.

This really is going to mess somethings up.  A lot of Nemsters are Chinese. (and maybe a lot of sock puppets too)

Sure, we can setup QQ but how are you going to tell them about it if all channels are blocked Smiley
1430  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] SuperNET asset 12071612744977229797, trading symbol UNITY on: September 26, 2014, 01:39:30 PM
SuperNET on AE = UNITY on Bter ?

Yes, but withdrawal is not up yet for Bter->Nxt AE
I am waiting as well. Also need to set up a wallet on Nxt AE to withdraw it to. Are you using an online Nxt AE wallet to withdraw UNITY to or will you use a downloadable one from the following link? http://nxtra.org/nxt-wallet/

Doesn't make any difference. It's all the same blockchain Smiley
For security reasons I still prefer local clients though.

Perhaps our chinese nemsters have problems to open btt.  Sad

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=794472.0

Should we think about an alternative way to give them information about NEM?

Maybe in a couple of weeks the chinese government decide to close the access to our forum.

Censorship is a serious problem in china: http://cointelegraph.com/news/112603/the-strange-case-of-bitcointalks-chinese-ban

Same reason why whe need anonymous payments. Their not just for pedos and other assholes. They are also for people that need to stay anonymous becaue their goverment will lock them up if they new about certain payments.

@asdlolciterquit: What do you mean with "rate"?

the speed of harvesting, based on how much coins we have...like nxt?

No, NEM is not POS. It's POI.

NXT-7Y5B-J8LQ-SL5P-3ULFL (alias: RedeemTOKEN)

If you purchased TOKEN from NXT AE, the above is the redemption address to transfer the TOKEN to.
when the redeem script is run, you will get the SuperNET asset sent. I think in about 12 hours the redeem will be run next by valarmg

If you have TOKEN on bter, it should already have been converted to UNITY and I think by tomorrow it will be possible to deposit/withdraw UNITY <-> SuperNET

James

All those who sent their TOKEN to the Redeem address should now have received their superNET
https://nxtforum.org/general-discussion/supernetwork-ipopoloniex/msg107698/#msg107698

I will send all TOKEN from the Redeem account to genesis in due course.

I can confirm that i received my SuperNET assets. Thanks !

i bet : release not in this year. no stakes to our accounts.

How much are you willing to put on that bet?

I can find an escrow and you can put your money where your mouth is, if you're that sure. I'll gladly bet against you.

So what say you? Cool

Exactly...Put your money where your mouth is Hauberg81.

Or just spreading FUD ?

any plans to have an online wallet as nodecoin ?
thanks

Not to my knowledge no but nothing stops anyone from developing one Smiley

Isn't actually or can't the NCC become an online wallet by
implementing client side signing?!

NXT for example is easier because it doesn't store the funds or addresses on a wallet file, instead, it's a brainwallet that is kept in the network itself. An NIS would need to safely store the data on a file, thus needing to sit on the server. Unless the online wallet site sports a SSL certificate, it could lead to funds being stolen (for example). Every private key is yours to keep, but even downloading / uploading those are a potential hazard.

NCC is the client part and that is what stores the wlt so it doesn't sit on a server but on the client. Even with remote NIS implementation your funds will be safe and sound Smiley

I have no idea why people still prefer brainwallets but okay...we've been over this way too often already.

Whats the status of the issuance of assets? I had applied well before all the hacking attempts, but have yet to receive it.

Since redemption is very close we're most likely not going to issue any more assets.

Is there an estimate on how long AE users will be able to exchance TOKEN for SuperNET ? I'm here everyday but looking at the rate this thread is going and the cumbersome OP I'm afraid I'll miss it.
