Whats the status of the issuance of assets? I had applied well before all the hacking attempts, but have yet to receive it.

Latest version of NEM is looking very clean. 0.2.18 is latest version no? I thought I had it but looks a bit different from yours. My version doesnt look exactly the same as that although colouring is same and left hand side is same. Does the layout change on different machines?

Since redemption is very close we're most likely not going to issue any more assets.

Not to my knowledge no but nothing stops anyone from developing one Isn't actually or can't the NCC become an online wallet by implementing client side signing?! NXT for example is easier because it doesn't store the funds or addresses on a wallet file, instead, it's a brainwallet that is kept in the network itself. An NIS would need to safely store the data on a file, thus needing to sit on the server. Unless the online wallet site sports a SSL certificate, it could lead to funds being stolen (for example). Every private key is yours to keep, but even downloading / uploading those are a potential hazard.

Although bitcoin has some serious problems, I think it's far from dead. In fact, from a usability standpoint, it has gained massive ground and was never better positioned. It would be interesting to see how things will look at the end of the year.

I remember the price tanking after the Olympics and Nascar thing for Doge. Adding liquidity to Litecoin and Doge will end up hurting the value of those coins..

An interesting move in my opinion. Mostly because I think PayPal realizes they need to embrace, adapt, and integrate or die slowly. This is a smart move on their part even if not begrudging as it cuts in to their cushy margins.
PayPal will just pass on the fees via bitcoin, they dont have to sacrifice any of their margin. Instead of sending your bitcoin straight to the buyer you will send it through an Ebay/Paypal intermediary who will take their traditional-sized cut from the transaction. So I imagine.

So I imagine. and we don't even know the swing or fees yet. Bitcoin ATMs are already known to swing up to 30% and charge additional fees on top. I think PayPal saw the money that BitPay and the exchanges / ATMs were making and wanted in on the action.

Instead of sending your bitcoin straight to the buyer you will send it through an Ebay/Paypal intermediary who will take their traditional-sized cut from the transaction. So I imagine. Part of the great promise of Bitcoin was instant transactions and low fees. I'm pretty sure PayPal will be getting a big cut and will slow it down. Probably to the extent that many people might wonder, "why even try? There isn't and advantage, right?" So I'm not sure in the short term how much it'll actually help to turn bitcoin into a real currency from the cyber geek bling bling that it is today. That said, I do think its a great intermediate step and one that is absolutely necessary and welcomed.

Does the layout change on different machines? I logged back in and the layout was different like you said. I had left my machine running for a while when that photo was taking. To me, that is just more proof the devs are hard at work. This was taken today. Is this what yours looks like?

Every private key is yours to keep, but even downloading / uploading those are a potential hazard. You are right that the brainwallet has its own set of problems. For those who are interested, you can actually create a brainwallet out of the NCC and the NCC source codes are for your taking! The good thing about the NCC design is that it actually provides the flexibility of implementing some kind of a brain wallet but do it at your own peril!

NCC is the client part and that is what stores the wlt so it doesn't sit on a server but on the client. Even with remote NIS implementation your funds will be safe and sound I have no idea why people still prefer brainwallets but okay...we've been over this way too often already.
