1421  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: ASUS B250 Mining Expert MB - 19 Cards! on: September 20, 2017, 06:50:37 PM
Just ordered the ASUS B250 at Newegg for $150(not bad!).. It's gonna take a while to get 19 GPUs to fill it but it will happen. I'm thinking a new rig design. 7 cards on the 1st row, 6 on 2nd & another 6 on top. Or maybe something completely different. 19 GPUs is crazy

I'm getting ready by building a double-wide BBT dual tier open air frame  Grin

1422  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: ASrock H110 Pro BTC+ 13 GPU Board on: September 20, 2017, 05:58:57 PM
Hello guys,
I was going to pick up one of these but I was dissuaded by the amazon reviews, the two problems they had were:

1. PCI slots too close together, meaning possible shorts(easy fix is just some cardboard.
2. Loose pieces.

Has anybody had these issues?

The PCI-E slots are definetly too close together on the board. I was having GPU's drop caused by the risers shorting. I filed down the back of riser PCI-E 1x connectors and put 2 pieces of electrical tape over the soldering. That has fixed the shorting problem. Otherwise the board has been very stable and is easy to setup. Currently running 8 AMD cards with the blockchain drivers + 2 Nvidia cards with the latest driver on Windows 10.

Now that the Asus B250 Mining Expert board has come out, IMO you are better off going with that board for $30 more instead. A total of 19 PCI-E slots and integrated ATX 24-pin connectors for up to 3 PSU's is a nice feature and the board has a much better layout.

1423  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: whats most profitable to CPU mine anyone know on: September 19, 2017, 06:50:25 PM
My guess would be Monero or one of the Cryptonight clones. You can check the current profitability for you hash rate on whattomine.com by deselecting all the other algorithms. In any case, you are looking at less than 50 cents per day at current prices, so with CPU mining current profitability doesn't mean much since it's more of a long term play on future appreciation.
1424  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Claymore's Dual Ethereum AMD+NVIDIA GPU Miner v10.0 (Windows/Linux) on: September 19, 2017, 05:05:11 PM
Hi

Sorry if this was already asked in the huge amount of pages here.

Is there a way to set the fan speed on one fan, but leave the others running automatically?

-tt -50

sets all fans to 50%

I only want to set the first one to a static figure. The rest i want to be automatic as there originally were?

Let me know!

Thanks

I don't think that's possible to set one fan speed to static and the rest to auto with the Claymore miner. You can set individual target temps using the -tt command line parameter in Claymore, which will adjust the fan speeds automatically according to the GPU temperature. Otherwise, if you're on Windows, you can set the fan(s) you want to be static using Wattman or Afterburner and leave the others to auto before starting the miner.

Quote
-tt   set target GPU temperature. For example, "-tt 80" means 80C temperature. You can also specify values for every card, for example "-tt 70,80,75".
You can also set static fan speed if you specify negative values, for example "-tt -50" sets 50% fan speed. Specify zero to disable control and hide GPU statistics.
"-tt 1" (default) does not manage fans but shows GPU temperature and fan status every 30 seconds. Specify values 2..5 if it is too often.
Note: for NVIDIA cards only temperature monitoring is supported, temperature management is not supported.
Note: for Linux gpu-pro drivers, miner must have root access to manage fans, otherwise only monitoring will be available.

You should mention it's only for a 220V power line.

1426  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Dell Optiplex 3010 7 GPU Problem on: September 19, 2017, 02:19:42 PM
Not all motherboards can run those PCI-E slot multipliers. I'm surprised you were able to get a Dell running with six cards. If possible, try setting all the PCI-E slots to GEN 1 in the Bios, but even then it may not be possible to have all the multiplier slots work. Also check if Windows is installed in UEFI mode, not legacy mode.
1427  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Mining etherium and dcr ir Dual on: September 19, 2017, 12:58:57 AM
Dual mining is maximizing the work load of the GPU by mining two coins at the same time, but it's not as efficient as mining the coin by itself. You are getting more hash because the Nicehash miner isn't a dual miner. With the Claymore miner, you can adust the workload intensity of the secondary coin up or down using the -dcri parameter in the command line options or using th '+' or '-' keys. The higher the -dcri intensity, the more hash the secondary coin will have. The goal is to find a number that maximizes the hash of the second coin, without affecting the ETH hash, but the secondary coin hash will never be as fast as mining the coin by itself.

Sapphire Nitro+ cards overclock well with a modded Bios. Use HWinfo to check for memory errors. As long as there are no memory errors and the cards run stable, then it should be fine.
1429  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: ETH Hashpower decreases when dual mining on: September 16, 2017, 11:12:31 PM
Using the '+' and '-' keys you can adjust the -dcri parameter intensity of the secondary coin until the ETH hashrate isn't affected. You can also adjust the -dcri intensity on a per-card basis. Once you find the right intensity, just use it in your command line option or configuration file.

Ethpool is a solo mining pool for miners with a lot of hash. You can read how to get started on the pool home page. Basically, you earn credits towards receiving a full block reward once you reach the top of payout list. The payout is sent to the ETH wallet address you use with your miner. You can use that wallet address to check your stats on the pool and approximately how long it will take before you receive a payout. With only 150 MH/s, it will take many many months of 24/7 mining before you will earn enough credits to get a a payout. With the hash you have you're much better off using a regular PPLNS pool like ethermine.org.
1432  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: with metropolis will etheruem mined in POW have no value when switched to POS on: September 16, 2017, 10:38:39 AM
The Byzantium fork which as of the last dev meeting is scheduled for around October 9th, will be the first of two forks in preparation for the Metropolis fully POS switch. Until those two forks happen, Ethereum won't be switching to fully POS and it's expected to be at least 6 months at the earliest.

The fork scheduled for next month will roll back all of the ICE AGE difficulty increases. Returning the POW back to where the difficulty is predicated on the network hash rate and also reduce the block times back to 15 seconds. The block reward will also be reduced to ~3 ETH, so that inflation remains about the same as where it is now.

Until that fork happens next month, the scheduled ICE AGE difficulty ramp up will happen on September 24th as planned, which will make ETH marginally profitable until the fork rolls back all those changes.

POW and POS are two different ways of reaching consensus for blockchain transactions. POW uses mining algorithms and mining hash rate, POS requires a stake in the currency to participate. The currency is the same for both types.
1433  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Biostart tb85 vs Asrock h81 pro btc (mobo) on: September 16, 2017, 10:26:05 AM
I have a Biostar TB85 and it's a good motherboard. Easy to setup and it's been problem free with up to 6 cards. The ASRock H81 BTC Pro also has a M.2 slot and overall probably has somewhat better build quality. What I don't like about ASRock boards is they require you to use the 4-pin molex PCI-E supplemtal power, even though it's not needed when using powered risers.

I ordered two mobos as i was getting a deal on them, i am planning to sell one, should i just use the tb85 for myself? i agree about the 4 pin molex, that seems useless, what cards are you running on the tb85, i am planning to run 6x1060, should be fine right? not much of a driver issue?

Right now on the TB85 I have 4 RX 570 and a GTX 1080. No problems mixing both drivers on Windows 10, though I found the Nvidia card works better if if it's in the PCI-E x 16 slot.

Either one would work fine for six cards. Personally I would keep the TB85. If you want to use a more power efficient newer processor, you could also try the Biostar TB250 LGA 1151 motherboard. Windows no longer supports security updates for anything newer than Skylake CPU's on Windows 7, so if you want to use Windows 7, the TB85 or H81 BTC Pro is a better option.

For a mining case, I use BBT style cases built out of two 8ft pieces of 1/8" x 3/4" angled aluminum, one 4ft pieces of 1/8" x 3/4" angled aluminum, one 8 ft 1" x 3" piece of pine, one 4' 1" x 2" pine and #8 1/2" self-tapping screws I get at Lowe's. The case will easily fit 7-8 RX 4XX/5XX if you put them about 1.5" inch apart. The cost of the aluminum angles and screws was ~$45. If you build it out of all wood, the cost would be less than $10.

7-8 card frame (Dimension 24" W x 15 3/4"" D x 10 3/4" H):

Build Cuts:

For the Angled Aluminum:

First 8ft (96") Angled Aluminum; 5.75 inch of waste

4x 15 3/4" cuts (58" use) - (Case Depth)
3x 10 3/4" cuts (32.25" use) - (Case Height)

Second 8ft (96") Angled Aluminum; no waste

4x 24" cuts (96" use) - (Case Width)

4ft (48") Angled Aluminum; 37.25" left over

1x 10 3/4" - (Case Height)

And for the wood:

1x3 Pine (Case Bottom):

6 cuts of 14 1/2 (87" use)

1x2 Pine (Card Bracket Support):

1 cut of 24" (24" use)

I also built a 14-15 GPU double tier case for a new build I'm doing with the ASRock H110 BTC Pro mining motherboard. Lots of room underneath for multiple PSU's and the double tier lets me use a single box fan for the whole rig.

14 GPU Double Tier Frame - (Dimensions 29.5" W x 16" D x 17" H):

Build Cuts:

For the Angled Aluminum:

-First 8ft (96") Angled Aluminum; 95.5" use 0.5" waste

2 x 17" cuts (34" use) (Case Height)
2 x 16" cuts (32" use) (Case Depth)
1 x 29.5" cut (29.5" use) (Case Width)

-Second 8ft (96") Angled Aluminum; 95.5" use 0.5" waste

2 x 17" cuts (34" use) (Case Height)
2 x 16" cuts (32" use) (Case Depth)
1 x 29.5" cut (29.5" use) (Case Width)

-Third 8ft (96") Angled Aluminum; 88.5" use 7.5" waste

3 x 29.5" cut (88.5" use) (Case Width)

And for the wood:

-1" x 3" 8ft (96") Pine; 96" use no waste

1 x cut of 16" (16" use) (Case Bottom)

- 1" x 1" 8ft (96") Oak; 59" use 37" left over

2 x cut of 29.5" (59" use) (Card Bracket Support)

1436  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: about my rx 570 8 Gb afterburner setting on: September 16, 2017, 02:02:53 AM
That a high memory clock for a bios modded RX 570, the highest mine can go is 2075 MHz, but that may be OK for a card without a Bios mod. Use HWinfo to check for memory errors. Ideally there will be no errors. If there are more than a few memory errors, you should lower the memory clock by 25 MHz until it stops giving errors.

This is a great whole rig box fan from home depot: http://www.homedepot.com/p/Lasko-20-in-Power-Plus-Box-Fan-B20540/300202629

I originally went with the cheaper Lasko and am now going with this one.

That's the same fan I use. It's more powerful and has better airflow than a regular box . Only bad thing is there is a dead air spot in the center, so the cards in the middle of the fan will get warmer. It uses ~75W on low.
1438  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: VGA/PCIe Splitters on: September 16, 2017, 01:48:19 AM
I use these sleeved 8-Pin PCI-E splitter to dual 6+2 cables. I really like them since they can be used for 6-pin risers, 8-pin+6-pin GPU's and even for some of my lower wattage single connector 8-pin connector GPU's. The cables are good quality and are made out of 18AWG copper wire which is more conductive, with less resistance the the aluminum wire Jacob cables uses. At that price they are a real good deal. Only downside is since they come from China, you have to wait 3-4 weeks for delivery to the USA.

With current GPU's only producing 80 cents each per day after electric/fees, don't think this thing is in my future.

This is just the beginning, it will get worse hehe, soon miners will be making only $0.05 per card hehe

Unless you plan on putting rigs in a server rack, there is no point to buying pre-built cases. It's mainly something bought out of convinience rather than because it's a better option. Open-air frame cases work the best and can be easily built to a custom size for less than $50 in material costs.
