1421  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: BFL not responding to a refund request on: May 29, 2013, 03:39:10 PM
I'm not advocating violence, but showing up at their door with a M16 might get their attention.

Actually, i'm wondering what would happen if the FBI started getting a lot of requests that they investigate a multimillion dollar scam / ponzi scheme. We might get some real answers, even if it is just that they are a really badly run business.
1422  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Something for the EEs to think about. on: May 29, 2013, 03:31:25 PM
Would to be possible to make a SATA to PCI-e adapter? Most MBs have more SATA connectors than anyone needs. Could be a business opportunity here.
1423  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Standard PCI to PCI-Express Adapters, Anyone got any experience with them? on: May 29, 2013, 03:28:32 PM
just so everyone knows, you can get these on Amazon, you don't have to go the eBay route.
1424  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: How can I efficiently switch pools on lots of miners at once? on: May 29, 2013, 01:56:53 PM
You could just train a bunch of Monkeys to push the buttons at the right time. (sorry, i couldn't resist)
1425  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [8500 GH/s] Slush's Pool (mining.bitcoin.cz); TX FEES + UserDiff; ASIC tested on: May 28, 2013, 11:37:12 PM
TL;DR for entire last 10 pages: If you dont like slush' pool then leave, no one is requiring, or even asking, for you to stay. Especially this Lucko guy who doesnt even mine with most of his equipment here, yet bitches and moans more than anybody else.

ok, to play the Devil's Advocate for a moment, how do I get my earnings out in namecoins and BTC when they are under the Send threshold Huh

With all that is going on and the low speed that I can mine, i'm lucky if any shares that I can find are worth anything.

How do you get them out? you don't. if the amounts are that low you are talking fractions of a cent. you do know that you can change that threshold a bit. if your hash rate is that low, you might want to consider another hobby. Unless, of course, you are enjoying yourself, then mine on.

People are just annoyed that Lucko goes on and on about how bad things are here instead of just taking his marbles and going home. I'm sure he feels that he is helping everyone when he constantly points out the problems he finds. the thing is, everyone is tired of of hearing him. (reading him?) The only one that is really concerned with what he says is Slush himself, and either he isn't here or isn't talking. If he was really as altuistic as he claims, he could private message Slush and spare the rest of us. But, some people crave the interaction and will do whatever they can to get it.
1426  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Does anyone have ASICminer USB mining stats? on: May 28, 2013, 07:15:00 PM
US$300.00+?  That would almost make sense. try US$700+. personally, i don't see where the power savings are going offset the almost double the price of comparable GPU. If i remember right, these are 300Mh/s miners. I have trouble rationalizing more than US$1.00 per Mh/s. Are these people ever going to make their investment back? Just because i want try one, I've bid as much as US$430.00 for one and always get blown away before the auction closes. I doubt that i will ever get one at auction. sooner or later the price will cool some... I hope.
1427  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Satoshi - all the wasted effort... on: May 28, 2013, 06:22:54 PM
How can you tell so much time is spent on trying to find him?

I'd say most of the effort people took to find out who he is were in 2011.

So many threads about Satoshi and who he is, who he is not, and evidence how he is really a group, and why he's just an individual and so on. Smiley

That is just people entertaining themselves, not a real effort. There are people who use forums like this just to pass the time.

I remember reading some where that an older document was found that showed 666 to be a typo. the number was 610 or some such.

Pretty much, a job is what you do for a living. Some jobs have more risk than others. For some, mining Bitcoins could indeed be their job. For others it could be a Hobby or Entertainment.
1430  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Something i'm not clear on. on: May 26, 2013, 04:56:30 PM
I think i get it, everybody doesn't start with a nounce = 1.

Yes, everyone typically starts with nonce = 1, it is other data in the block that is unique for each miner.  The transactions that they choose to include in their block, the order of those transactions, the timestamp, the input to the coinbase transaction (sometimes called "extra-nonce").

Ok, now that makes sense. everyone isn't looking for exactly the same next block. Nounce isn't the only variable.

Well, the negatives were amusing. I suspect that what happened is the numbers got bigger than could be represented with the number type in the code. when that happens the sign bit gets changed and the number wraps around becoming negative. basically the biggest number + 1 = the most negative number. Shocked

Even if you (or your pool) have a really high total hash rate, does not guarantee every block for you or that pool.

this is what i don't get. why is this true?
1434  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Something i'm not clear on. on: May 25, 2013, 06:17:58 PM
thanks Smiley

one more thing i don't get. it seems like it is a race for the miners to get the next block. Why don't the fastest miners (or most powerful pools) get all the blocks? What are the little guys doing to get their slice of the pie? isn't the hashing sequential?
1435  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What is the point of 5 worthless posts? on: May 25, 2013, 04:47:17 PM
there is no requirement that your posts be worthless. try doing 5 worthwhile posts.

There is bitcoind and bitcoin-qt. I understand that qt is the wallet client.

Is bitcoind part of qt as well as standalone, a component of qt?

when blocks miners found are being verified, is bitcoind doing the verification?

Transactions included in a block are determined by the miner, does bitcoind maintain the list of transactions looking for inclusion?

if my questions don't make sense, well, I'm confused. Huh
1437  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [8500 GH/s] Slush's Pool (mining.bitcoin.cz); TX FEES + UserDiff; ASIC tested on: May 25, 2013, 04:31:14 AM
If it is broke, Slush will fix it. But, software doesn't wear out, it works the same way under the same circumstances everytime.

Well, he hasn't lately at least not in a very timely manner.  If the software worked the same way every time we wouldn't have had two blocks go missing in the past two days that he needed to fix and very substandard rewards issued on several blocks that he hasn't fixed, so I can only assume you have no idea what you are talking about and indeed much more than just the software is smarter than you.

*snicker* or, perhaps i can recognise patterns that you can't. One should know better than to assume. I got my B.S. in Computer Science in 1979. When did you get yours?
1438  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [8500 GH/s] Slush's Pool (mining.bitcoin.cz); TX FEES + UserDiff; ASIC tested on: May 25, 2013, 02:56:55 AM
I don't know how Slush does it.  Roll Eyes  Every block looked at under a microscope. I'm only a little miner, but my 7 day average is pretty consistant, day in and day out. I don't look at every blocks results. A watched block never pops. I don't second guess the software, it is smarter that me. If it is broke, Slush will fix it. But, software doesn't wear out, it works the same way under the same circumstances everytime.

The thing is most of the other pool threads are filled with similar complaints. Mining isn't a participation game. you run your rig and reap the results. If you really feel that this pool is broke, go to another pool. Personally, i think that the only thing that will help us out will be an increase in our mining power. We need a larger piece of the pie. I know I'm scrambling to find what cost effective hardware i can find.

A 7 hour block doesn't mean that one block took 7 hours to resolve, it means that a whole bunch of blocks were found by people other than us and it took us this long to find one before someone else did. The only way to improve our position is to grow.

At least that is the way i see it.

um... amazon.com?
1440  Bitcoin / Mining / PCI to PCIe adapters on: May 24, 2013, 04:39:08 PM
Has anyone successfully used these to mine on computers that don't support PCIe? If it works it will give me a chance to add to my mining for the cost of the video cards alone.
