1441  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Newest Diff thread April 19th to May 1st-Closed for picks!! on: April 27, 2015, 10:58:05 PM
While I won't complain about an increase in BTC price, a rise from $218 to $230 won't really have any significant effect on mining operations I don't believe. I don't think there are Petahash's sitting on the sidelines just waiting for a $15 bump in BTC price. Now $300 will motivate some folks to restart operations in my opinion.
1442  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Antminer S6 speculation on: April 27, 2015, 10:34:50 PM
When are they releasing S6 and S7? we need bigger hash rate and compact to reduce the shipment charges per Gh/s

Not that sure it is happening until the late summer Sept 10th at the least.

Is there something significant about September 10th? It all looks very uncertain, and yet September 10th is a fairly specific date. Care to share your reasoning?
1443  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Newest Diff thread April 19th to May 1st-Closed for picks!! on: April 27, 2015, 10:31:12 PM
I would think by now that most of the effects of the last adjustment period are washed out of the bitcoinwisdom projection. Just looking at the graph, it really looks like hash rate has been more or less flat for a week or more. Yes it oscillates, but it really doesn't seem to be showing any significant growth like it did last year. It could easily be a "coin toss" in terms of plus or minus adjustment this time around.

Unfortunately it also appears that the Westhash "gravy train" of overpriced rentals is really gone. Sad
1444  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon nano advice on: April 24, 2015, 04:19:28 PM
While it might be obvious, also space them out across the sockets on the hub to allow more air circulation between the sticks. Some hubs have the sockets VERY close together. All stick miners need a high quality hub, adequate spacing and some airflow, even the original Block Erupters.

Bring the mining back to the people!

That is one of our primary goals, always has been. Slow starting on account of we won't take in investor, speculation or dev-preorder money out of principle, but hopefully we can get rolling here soon. First thing in the morning Novak and I need to give the Compac PCB a once-over, and if it checks out we'll be ordering prototypes. With any luck, two weeks from now we'll have sample units in a few hands for testing and review.

Considering the damage BFL has done, you might want to replace a 2 week estimate with something more like 3, even if 2 is more accurate. While this is obviously hugely more transparent than BFL, I am afraid they may have ruined the phrase "Just two more weeks".    Smiley

Additional discussion on the ASICSPACE situation is in the following link:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1036376.0

I don't know if dmwardjr and LordPaco will continue posting pictures of their adventures here on not. I also don't know if ASICSPACE will post further info here or not. Not a complaint, just a statement of what I don't know.
1447  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Stay away from ASICSPACE on: April 23, 2015, 11:41:24 PM
That's a real shame.

From your posting I surmise that this a legitimate project that ran aground for various reasons, as opposed to an outright scam or fraud. Is that right? Sorry to hear about your damaged S5's.
1448  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [∞ YH] solo.ckpool.org 0.5% fee anonymous solo bitcoin mining! 37 blocks solved! on: April 23, 2015, 11:34:11 PM
Sounds almost like a "Pool of 2" on top of a "Solo Pool". Does that make it a "Meta Pool"?  Smiley

Pretty clever, Phillip. Looks like you have a severe case of "Mining Addiction", since you aren't running several Killowatts of mining hardware for the summer. I think there's a 12-step program or something.....
1449  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: April 23, 2015, 11:04:37 PM
At least in the US, when a company is faced with a lawsuit that they may not win, they are motivated to do the right thing. It wouldn't be a surprise if a similar dynamic is in play in Sweden.

Case in point: Butterfly Labs (aka BFL)
1450  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience BM1384 Project Development Discussion on: April 23, 2015, 04:36:54 PM
I wonder if perhaps since the S5 was originally introduced, the balance of more slower clocked chips has shifted. By now, you would expect that the yields on BM1384 parts is pretty good. That usually drives down the cost of the chips. At the outset though, perhaps the chip costs were expected to be higher so it made more sense to have fewer, faster clocked parts. Of course their view of costs and margins are probably wildly different than sidehack's.
1451  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Newest Diff thread April 19th to May 1st-NoW open for pick until block 1000 on: April 23, 2015, 04:27:02 PM
Looks like the party at Westhash/Nicehash is completely over. The payout value is now .0104. It's now down to less than 1500TH, compared to well over 4000TH earlier in the week. My lone SP20 has given up on Westhash.
1452  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Hashing SHA-256 with ASICs and other mining hardware on: April 22, 2015, 11:42:13 PM
So then what the hell is it doing, if it's not completing a double SHA256? You've completely lost me on this. Again I have to ask... if it's not completing a double SHA how does it know that it's got any valid hash below the target?
You don't need the last few steps in sha to examine the first few bytes.

So the ASIC is essentially "screening" POSSIBLE candidates for a solution? It rapidly discards impossible solutions and only alerts the upper level processor when it "might be onto something"?
1453  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [2100 TH] CKPool (kano.is) from the cgminer devs [0.9% PPLNS] on: April 22, 2015, 08:32:57 PM
Am I interpreting the main home page for the pool? It's been well over 4 days since the pool solved a block?

That's just plain brutal!   Huh
1454  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: AntMiner S4+ available for global sales on April 20th, shipping within one week on: April 22, 2015, 08:01:57 PM
color me confused. One message says that Phil is going to washington to a 15acre estate.
the very next message says that he stays on atlantic.
I guess it is still under discussion.

Anyway, I also want to move to WA or OR myself, but it has nothing to do with mining, nothing at all  Grin
However, most likely, I won't because it is difficult to convince the "nest builder" to build a brand new nest somewhere else when the current one "just started to look good".

Depending on your personal family situation, would you save lots of money on electricity, only to hand it over to an airline for trips "back home" to visit family? Unlike some folks, I am unwilling to chase Bitcoin across the country. Just my personal choice though.
1455  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: AntMiner S4+ available for global sales on April 20th, shipping within one week on: April 22, 2015, 07:57:43 PM
Whoa!!!

Just about time that a manufacture released a new product.

This miner is going to be BIG!

Since this uses the same chips as the S3. Can the S3 be downclocked to run at a similar efficiency? 0.58J/GH ?

Also I think this should be put in bold

1. The included PSU cannot be used in countries with a mains power voltage lower than 205V. The PSU will not start below this voltage.

Pretty much has no market in North America then.
Exactly, pretty huge shot in the foot.

Would a step-up transformer work to power one of these units from a standard 120V connection?

Something like this:
http://www.quick220.com/220_catalog/voltage-converters.html

While the device you show, might be able to produce 240V, there are some serious, un-mentioned caveats:

- You almost certainly need to have the two 120V outlets on different circuits. That doesn't just mean two different outlets on the wall, but different circuits. You would have to figure that out for your house.

- There will be an ongoing efficiency cost, on trying to do this. In order to get 2000 Watts out on the 240V outlet, you will almost certainly need 1050 Watts for each of the 120V lines (total 2100W or more).

- There is also no mention of how well suited this kind of a device is for 24 hours per day operation. I'd be surprised if it didn't generate some heat itself, and run the risk of failure.

So while might be theoretically possible, I doubt if it would be practical, or cost efficient to do so.
1456  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: AntMiner S4+ available for global sales on April 20th, shipping within one week on: April 22, 2015, 06:32:01 PM
When I first saw this, I was thinking dmwardjr, and not Phil. Personally, my wife would just wave as she sent me on my way, alone, to Washington. Yes, I make adjustments for mining. Moving from Minnesota will NOT be one of them.
1457  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: 2s3's or 1 c1 on: April 22, 2015, 07:08:53 AM
I have to agree with the recommendation regarding the S3's. They have a reputation for serious reliability, way better than the C1's cooling system. Also with two miners, you have the option of splitting your hash as you might see fit. Say across two pools, or maybe renting one on Nicehash/Westhash. If you really want to fiddle with a liquid cooling setup, then C1 is your choice. Otherwise I think it's S3 all the way.
1458  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Newest Diff thread April 19th to May 1st-NoW open for pick until block 1000 on: April 22, 2015, 05:30:29 AM
Please put me down for +4.51 to 4.75%

I actually hope that no one wins because it's so negative that it again hits an empty spot!
1459  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: AntMiner S4+ available for global sales on April 20th, shipping within one week on: April 22, 2015, 12:17:56 AM

Thanks Smiley That's in my detached garage at home, which only has 60A to work with. What's in that picture is taking it all up, so I still have a lot of hardware in the house that needs to be moved out there once my dedicated 200A electrical entrance is installed hopefully in the next 2 weeks or so. Hardware not pictured: 2X Neptunes, a Titan, a 90MH A2 Terminator, 2x S4 and as of Thursday 2x S4+.

I didn't see it as insulting at all, it would be the most logical thing to do really... I just like complicating my life for nothing, so I reversed the fans in the S4s and the Alcheminer to suit my "needs".

And just think, after Thursday you can stop complaining about those "noisy SP20's", since the new S4+ will completely drown them out!  Wink

I am glad I don't get your electric bill each month. What's your electricity cost if you don't mind the inquiry?
1460  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Sfards: SF3301 Specifications Revealed [Updated 14/4/15] on: April 21, 2015, 07:39:41 PM
Wouldn't you think that Sfards would try and get a premium price for the "dual mining" feature, even if folks only use it one way? As I recall the Gridseed was nothing special, and perhaps a little feeble, as a Bitcoin miner. It's key feature was it's ability to do Scrypt in hardware. As a Bitcoin miner it would have been an utter failure. I thought the follow on products dropped support for the Bitcoin aspect, even if they were based on the same chip. I think it became pretty obvious that it was never going be anything other than an "also ran" in the Bitcoin space, and hence that was dropped.

It will be interesting as to what Sfards actually comes out with, and when.
